Notice from the Accommodation

【Winter Taxi Service】
In recent years, there has been a severe shortage of taxis around the Echigo-Yuzawa area. It is often difficult to arrange taxis for the day before or same-day requests, as well as to accommodate same-day time changes. Please note that if you are late for your reserved time at checkout, the taxi will wait with its meter running (fixed rates will not apply), resulting in higher taxi fares. We apologize for any inconvenience and kindly ask for your attention when using taxi services.

【About Stink Bugs】
Every autumn, stink bugs appear in large numbers. They enter warm buildings to hibernate during winter and may fly around guest rooms in spring as they try to leave after hibernating indoors. At Satoyama Jujo, we take preventive measures such as applying insecticides throughout the building with professional assistance; however, stink bugs can slip through tiny gaps in window frames or wooden structures (a special skill of theirs!). Our staff removes hundreds of stink bugs daily but even after thorough cleaning, some may still appear shortly afterward. If you find a stink bug in your room, we would appreciate your cooperation by using the provided removal tools. Of course, if you contact us via internal phone line, our staff will come to your room to assist with removal. Thank you for your understanding!

Double recipient of the Good Design Award Best 100 and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Director's Award.

Recognized as a unique "proposal-based facility" and "experiential media," we are honored to be the first Onsen Ryokan to receive the prestigious Good Design Best 100 Award and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Director-General's Award. Our goal is not excessive smiles or formal responses, but natural hospitality, as if welcoming guests into our own home. We believe that the most important aspects of hospitality are offering meals made with the finest local ingredients of the day and creating an environment for restful sleep—through quality bedding, soothing Onsen baths, and aromatic scents. While our cuisine and service style differ significantly from traditional luxury Ryokans, we strive to ensure a comfortable stay for all guests by paying attention to every detail—from seasonings in our dishes to enhancing comfort throughout our facility. We aim to create an accommodation where genuine conversations flow naturally with every guest.

Room

Just like home

In May 2014, we took over an accommodation. However, it wasn't because we wanted to start a ryokan or run a restaurant. What we aimed to create was a new framework for interactive media—something that engages all the senses: seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling, gazing, sitting, relaxing, eating, drinking, and sleeping. If even one moment during your stay inspires you in some way, it would bring us immense joy.

Meals
Sanaburi -SANABURI-

"Sanaburi" refers to a traditional feast held after rice planting, both to pray for a bountiful harvest and to show gratitude to those who helped with the planting. "SANABURI - Early Seedling Feast -" is a natural Japanese cuisine restaurant that values tradition while embracing creativity beyond conventional genres.

Onsen & Bath
A sky full of stars, a magical sunrise

From the hot spring "Amanogawa," you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Makihata, one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, along with other peaks around 2,000 meters high on the border of Joetsu and Shinetsu regions. The scenery is especially stunning in spring when snow remains on the mountains and from autumn's first snowfall to early winter. From the open-air bath, you can also admire a sky full of stars and the Milky Way stretching overhead.

Your child
You can stay.
The private rental "The House" welcomes children. For dinner, you can choose from shabu-shabu, hot pot, or BBQ (available only at SEN and KIROKU). While the main dining hall "Sanaburi" in the main building is generally not recommended for children, families may use it if parents review the following and decide it is suitable. Rooms 205 and 101 in the main building are also available for your stay. - Dinner at "Sanaburi" takes approximately 2 hours. Can your child remain calm during this time? - As it is a wooden structure, running causes noise to echo. Can your child refrain from running in the hallways?

Remarks
The open-air bath in each Satoyama Jujo guest room is provided for guests who feel that going to the Onsen building is a bit of a hassle early in the morning or late at night, or for those who want to take a quick soak as a refreshing break while focusing on work in their room. As the total volume of water from the hot spring source is limited, the bath is a small hinoki (cypress) tub. Please note that it is not intended for two people to bathe together. *The open-air bath in your guest room is also an Onsen. The light brown, fluffy particles floating on the surface are “yunohana,” natural mineral deposits from the hot spring water. The water may also appear slightly cloudy. *Because the source temperature is low, the water is heated. To maintain temperature, it is circulated and reheated.
Spring quality and benefits

Sodium Chloride-Bicarbonate Spring (Formerly: Sodium Bicarbonate Spring)

A renowned hot spring known as the "Beauty Skin Bath" since the Edo period. The silky, brown mineral-rich water is highly effective for skin troubles. While the natural spring temperature is low and requires heating circulation, approximately 10 tons of fresh spring water flow daily.

※Regarding the notation of "Gensen Kakenagashi"
In some facilities, heating or adding water for temperature adjustment may be performed. Additionally, please note that in some parts of the facility, the hot spring water may not be free-flowing from the source. For more details, please contact each facility.
