Facing the Sea of Japan, Tango–Kumihama is a scenic area where many beautiful landscapes remain. A legend has been passed down here. In the Kamakura period, the monk Ippen traveled across The whole country to save people, distributing nembutsu talismans and performing dancing nembutsu. After finishing his preaching in Kyoto and heading toward San’in, he was chanting the nembutsu in Kumihama when clouds suddenly gathered and a blue dragon appeared over the sea. Dragon worship has long been practiced in this region, and it is said that the blue dragon revealed itself before Ippen to form a bond with the nembutsu. Even today, the Sea of Japan as seen from Kumihama retains an air of mystery. Like Ippen once did, you can be embraced by this scenery and find rest here.
Above all, the hostess is truly soothing.Just seeing her face makes us feel at ease.The Room—especially the bath—is great, and the water temperature is perfect. The hospitality is pleasantly attentive as well. The food is delicious, but it was a bit too much for us. However, they kindly made rice balls for us, and we ended up eating them later that night.This is the best Ryokan for us, and we will come again in winter to enjoy crab.
Both the indoor bath and open-air bath are free-flowing Onsen—so refreshing! All our fatigue melted away, and even my 94-year-old mother was able to relax. The meals were delicious and we were completely full. They even made rice balls from the mixed rice, and we happily finished them as a late-night snack. This mixed rice was truly so, so tasty! Because my mother is elderly, having meals served in the Room was a huge help. The staff member in charge was very pleasant, and the Room was spacious—we felt completely refreshed.
