Enjoy breathtaking views and seasonal ingredients at a tranquil accommodation nestled between the sea and mountains of the Tango Peninsula.
At the northernmost tip of Kyoto Prefecture lies Taiza on the Tango Peninsula. Here, you will find a world once cherished by an ancient empress as an ideal paradise—a place where sky, sea, and land come together in strength and beauty. All of our hospitality is offered so you can feel the richness of living in harmony with the great nature passed down through generations, and so you may spend an unchanging “time for the heart” that endures through eternity. The origin of Tanpei— It began when master carpenter Heikichi Shimoda welcomed guests and fellow craftsmen, and in 1868 he opened a culinary business. Skilled in traditional ink-line marking, Heikichi was known locally as “Sumiya no Hei-san” (“Hei from the ink shop”). From this nickname came the house name Tanpei, later renamed “Tanpei,” and it has since been operated as the oldest Accommodation in Tango Town to this day. The spirit of hospitality of “Sumiya no Hei-san” has been passed down through six generations and continues today.
A place where you can relax and unwind no matter how many times you visit. I enjoyed a filling meal, soaked in the Onsen, and had a truly happy time—it was a wonderful refresh from everyday life. I’d love to come back again next time. Even though it was the rainy season, the sunset was amazing.
おランさん 8/10/2026We stayed here with our family, including our children, during the Obon holiday period. We stayed in the open-air bath suite “Untan,” which opened in February, and it truly offered a one-of-a-kind panoramic view worthy of being called a suite. In particular, the contrast between the horizon at dusk and the lights of squid-fishing boats was breathtaking and helped us unwind from everyday fatigue. The service and hospitality were impeccable, and we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen without any stress. We look forward to staying again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Amanohashidate still offers an unchanging, timelessly beautiful seascape. At dusk on clear days, no two moments are ever the same, inviting you to spend time in a truly eternal setting. Our commitment is that every guest room faces the sea, so you can linger over the enduring contrast of sky and ocean and enjoy a world where the sea stretches on beneath the open sky.

Savor the blessings of Taiza, cherished by an empress of old. Taste, deep within your body, the gifts of life nurtured by a rugged natural landscape. Only by enjoying the local bounty in its own climate can you truly feel the connection between heaven and earth. True flavor is found in sensing nature’s bond with the divine—and in feeling the very blessings of life itself.

Opening in August 2025: Kijima Annex “Mizu Accommodation” and “Hi Accommodation”
A new villa building, “Tanpei Ryokan Kijima Annex,” has opened on Kijima Island, visible to the north from Tanpei Ryokan—an secluded island retreat where the sea and mythology come alive. Kijima is a small pine-covered island about 20 meters above sea level, surrounded by the ocean on all sides. Untouched nature, just as it is. Listen to the whisper of the wind, watch the shimmer of the waves, feel the breath of the trees—open your senses and discover simple beauty. In unadorned abundance, sharpen your senses and experience true luxury deep within your soul. *We do not accept reservations for preschool children.*

Grand Opening in February 2026: “Kumohata” Suite with Private Open-Air Bath—Your Premium Seat Floating Above the Sea
At Tanpei, the place closest to the sky—“Untan.” Open the door and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped above the clouds. The Amino Sea fills the windows, glowing with sunrise, blazing at sunset, and sparkling with fishing lights at night. Time flows in pure luxury, as if you had the sky all to yourself. At the edge of the clouds, relax and unwind to your heart’s content.
