Enjoy breathtaking views and seasonal ingredients at a tranquil accommodation nestled between the sea and mountains of the Tango Peninsula.

At the northernmost tip of Kyoto Prefecture lies Taiza on the Tango Peninsula. Here, you will find a world once cherished by an ancient empress as an ideal paradise—a place where sky, sea, and land come together in strength and beauty. All of our hospitality is offered so you can feel the richness of living in harmony with the great nature passed down through generations, and so you may spend an unchanging “time for the heart” that endures through eternity. The origin of Tanpei— It began when master carpenter Heikichi Shimoda welcomed guests and fellow craftsmen, and in 1868 he opened a culinary business. Skilled in traditional ink-line marking, Heikichi was known locally as “Sumiya no Hei-san” (“Hei from the ink shop”). From this nickname came the house name Tanpei, later renamed “Tanpei,” and it has since been operated as the oldest Accommodation in Tango Town to this day. The spirit of hospitality of “Sumiya no Hei-san” has been passed down through six generations and continues today.

  • A place where you can relax and unwind no matter how many times you visit. I enjoyed a filling meal, soaked in the Onsen, and had a truly happy time—it was a wonderful refresh from everyday life. I’d love to come back again next time. Even though it was the rainy season, the sunset was amazing.

  • We stayed here with our family, including our children, during the Obon holiday period. We stayed in the open-air bath suite “Untan,” which opened in February, and it truly offered a one-of-a-kind panoramic view worthy of being called a suite. In particular, the contrast between the horizon at dusk and the lights of squid-fishing boats was breathtaking and helped us unwind from everyday fatigue. The service and hospitality were impeccable, and we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen without any stress. We look forward to staying again.
