Arimasanso Goshobessho
Hyogo Prefecture/Arima OnsenA Property with only 10 separate buildings on a vast site, where all rooms are detached.
Arima Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts and counted among the three most famous onsen in Japan. During the Meiji era, when Kobe opened its port to foreign trade, many foreigners visited Arima Onsen. They also visited the renowned autumn foliage spot "Kiyomizu-dera," which later became a foreigner-exclusive hotel called "Kiyomizu Hotel." The lush green grounds of "Arima Sanso Goshobessho" still retain the sacred atmosphere of that time. Goshobessho was established by Shirobei Kanai XV, the current head of "Tosen Goshobo," Arima Onsen's oldest accommodation. All 10 suite rooms at Goshobessho are detached and feature private onsen baths and low-temperature saunas known as "Thermal Rooms." One of these suites even includes the world's first treehouse-style open-air bath.
The property itself is a one-of-a-kind presence in nature. Meals begin with the head chef explaining the care and attention behind each dish. The baths—both the large public bath and the in-Room bath—feature Kinsen (golden hot spring water). The mystical large public bath is so relaxing you may drift off to sleep. They can also arrange surprises for birthdays and other occasions—you’ll be amazed!
maro1960 6/19/2026I was soothed by the slow pace of time. It felt like the fatigue of everyday life just melted away. With your wonderful smiles, attentive service, and warm conversation, the comfort was truly exceptional. I’ll be back again.Thank you.

A secluded Ryokan with 10 rooms, each over 100 square meters, all featuring private Onsen. The villa with Onsen and low-temperature sauna offers two types of suites: the "Takigawa," a wooden two-story maisonette suite facing the Takigawa River, and the "Sansou," a single-story wooden suite facing the Shimizu Pond.

At Kosuke Watanuki's world, "Muhouan," Eastern and Western cultures, poetry and philosophy, painting and calligraphy, practicality and spirituality blend organically. This creative individual, brimming with diverse passions, expresses his world through various forms of art. Goshobessho serves as a serene yet profound hermitage where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting realm of Muhouan.

Gosho Bessho, built on the former site of Kiyomizudera Temple that once welcomed foreign guests, inherits the philosophy of Gosho Bessho and is managed by Shirobei Kanai XV, the current head of "Tosen Goshobo," the oldest accommodation in Arima Onsen. The history of Goshobo continues to coexist with the nature of Arima to this day.

After enjoying the Onsen and spa treatments, relax in your private hot spring room with natural flowing spring water or in the private thermal room with activities like reading, meditation, or yoga. Feel the warmth, listen to the rhythm of your breath, unwind completely, and let your thoughts ease. Gradually, your mind and body will feel rejuvenated.

The waters of Arima Onsen, a hot spring with a history spanning 6 million years. Rich in minerals derived from ancient seawater, immerse yourself and feel the sensation of your body floating as gravity seems to fade away. This iron-rich chloride spring warms you to the core, harmonizing your mind and body. In serene tranquility, relax in the Onsen and enjoy a transformative experience for both body and soul.

Traditional mountain cuisine, crafted with high-quality ingredients from Kobe and Hyogo, is infused with Western sensibilities and meticulously prepared by skilled artisans. This unique culinary style reflects the rich cultures of Kobe and Arima. Enjoy your meal in the comfort of private dining in your room or at the restaurant counter while taking in a relaxing view.

The Library Salon, with its high ceilings and serene atmosphere, is an essential part of your stay at Goshobessho. Enjoy reading or afternoon tea during your visit. Additionally, the private rooms with terraces offer versatile spaces that can be adjusted in size, perfect for intimate family meals or small weddings, allowing you to enjoy private moments in various ways.
