A culinary Ryokan with 11 rooms, each featuring a private Onsen bath—founded as “Unagiya” and offering a secret family recipe passed down through generations in a refined Japanese-modern setting.
Located about a 5-minute taxi ride from JR Tendo Station, "Tendoso" has been in operation for over 100 years since its founding as an eel restaurant in the early Meiji era. This small-scale accommodation features only 11 rooms, focusing on providing personalized hospitality to each guest. All guest rooms offer the enjoyment of Onsen. The property includes unique spaces such as "Rijin-kyo," a detached single-story building with traditional Sukiya-style architecture, and "Azumatei," a suite blending modern functionality with the aesthetic charm of Japanese-Western design. At Tendoso, it’s not just about relieving travel fatigue but also cherishing the joy of doing nothing. Spend blissful moments in a space where tradition and sophistication come alive, allowing your heart to unwind completely.
We stayed in the detached “Rijin-kyo” villa. Beautiful paintings and decorative pieces were displayed throughout the property, and simply looking at them was a delight. The Room was nothing like today’s typical “Japanese-modern” style; instead, we were able to fully appreciate refined Japanese aesthetics. At the same time, we were impressed by the thoughtful touches everywhere that made our stay so comfortable. Gazing at the meticulously maintained garden from the veranda felt as if my mind was being cleansed. The cuisine was also full of seasonal character, and each dish moved us again and again with both its flavor and presentation. Our room attendant provided truly exceptional hospitality, and her subtle attentiveness was deeply soothing. The semi-open-air bath in the Room was very comfortable, allowing us to relax and enjoy the Onsen while looking out over the garden. It was a stay that made us sincerely glad we had chosen this Accommodation. As I noted in the title, it felt like a Ryokan where staying here becomes the purpose of your trip. We are grateful to Tendo-so for giving us such a wonderful time that enriched our hearts. We would love to return in another season. Thank you very much.
Piyo 7/13/2026The bonsai in the tokonoma alcove and the seasonal flowers arranged throughout were wonderful. The unpretentious hospitality was truly comforting. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, and we enjoyed them very much. The local specialty eel was also excellent. This is an Accommodation I hope will stay just as it is.As for the location, since we usually travel by train, it felt refreshing to be able to walk to the roadside station.
