  • Every stay has been a wonderfully refreshing experience, and I’ve been completely satisfied each time.

    Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality. We were thrilled to stay for the first time in a Japanese-style room with a jacuzzi, which is usually very hard to secure a Reservation, and my cousin and I were overjoyed. We could also admire the Mid-Autumn full moon through the large open picture window at the front—it was an unforgettable, moving moment. Throughout the property, we were impressed by the thoughtful touches everywhere: simple arrangements of wildflowers and fine pieces on display that we could enjoy as we walked to the restaurant and public bath. The moon-viewing décor in the lobby lounge, as well as the magnificent folding screen and large floral arrangement at the entrance, were all wonderful. Next time, I would love to visit with my husband and family, including my son and his wife. Thank you very much.

  • The meals are absolutely delicious.

    Right after arrival, we were served matcha and uiro, which we enjoyed while taking in the view from the lobby. The Room we were shown was a bit cloudy at first, but the scenery was as wonderful as expected, and it felt very clean—overall we were extremely satisfied. We also used the large public bath, but the open-air bath on the first floor was surrounded by dense trees, making it hard to see outside, which was a little disappointing. The open-air bath in our Room had a great view and was just the right size; my wife and I enjoyed it many times. Dinner—fish, meat, and vegetables—was all delicious, and the dashi in particular was outstanding; it truly felt like a Ryokan representing the Chugoku region. We were also very satisfied with the dining area: a private room with a great view. Thank you for accommodating ingredients I cannot eat. After dinner, stargazing (it was cloudy that day so we watched videos instead) and the live acoustic performance were both excellent. As for service, there were many young staff members, but everyone was polite and cheerful, leaving a very positive impression. Finally, since club lounge hours are short, I feel it would be better to extend them somewhat. Among all the Ryokan and Hotels I have stayed at over the past few years, this is my No. 1 Ryokan—I would love to stay again.

  • [Hagi Ware] Notice: “Autumn of Tableware” Event in Nagato Yumoto Onsen

    “Autumn of Vessels,” an event that brings color to autumn in Nagato Yumoto Onsen, will be held again this year.

    In Minnose, just a short distance from the Onsen town, stands Minnose Fukagawa Kiln with a history spanning some 360 years. Passed down through generations, Fukagawa Hagi ware is rooted in the tradition of tea ceramics and continues to evolve into new beauty through today’s artisans.

    This year marks the 7th edition, themed “Tea & Sweets, One Moment of Calm.” Wagashi artisan Sumisa Ipposumi visited five Fukagawa Hagi kilns and created Japanese sweets to complement each vessel. Enjoy matcha served in a Fukagawa Hagi tea bowl and savor a refined moment where pottery, sweets, and the season come together.

    At the main venue “Machino Bandai,” works by eight artists from five Fukagawa Hagi kilns will be exhibited all in one place. In addition, four satellite venues—Otani Sanso, Otozure-do, cafe&pottery Oto, and Gyokusenkaku—will showcase different expressions of Fukagawa Hagi ware. Another highlight is discovering how each maker and setting brings out a unique character in every piece as you stroll through the Onsen town.

    At Otani Sanso, sake vessels by Fukagawa Hagi artists will be on display. The pieces shown on the 2nd floor at the “Hagiyaki & Misuzu Kaneko Corner” each have their own distinct texture. Experience the character of the clay, the scenery of the glaze, and the warmth of handcraftsmanship while encountering the aesthetic sensibility of Fukagawa Hagi.

    During the event period, there will also be hands-on programs such as outdoor tea gatherings (nodate), kintsugi workshops, and craft gin enjoyed from Fukagawa Hagi vessels—experiences designed to engage all five senses through pottery.

    An autumn walk through history-rich kilns and local culture. Along with the soothing warmth of its waters, please enjoy a quiet luxury found only in Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
