    A bit surprising.

This is the first time I’ve felt like writing a review on Ikkyu. I booked with expectations of a top-tier property. [What I liked] - The hot spring facilities were excellent, and the staff there were highly professional. Everything was new and spotless, and I appreciated how quickly they tidied up the washing areas. - The food overall was delicious. - They provided a birthday cake as a complimentary service. I was planning to order one for an additional fee, but they told me it could be included, and it tasted wonderful. [What disappointed me] - Breakfast buffet: The food was great, but the staff… Near our table (not even in a secluded area), someone spoke loudly over an earpiece saying something like, “Have Timee clear the plates.” Saying that right next to Japanese guests was shocking. With so many foreign guests around, did they assume no one would understand Japanese? It honestly felt like an excited grade-school boy who’d just been allowed to use an earpiece for the first time… It made me feel this lowered the hotel’s value. - Pool: Is it really acceptable not to have a lifeguard? There was a notice posted clearly, so legally it may be fine, but what about safety? There were plenty of staff around the gym side and reception area. If they’re not putting effort into the pool anyway, I thought they might as well close it. - Initial check-in guidance: Even though we stayed in a Junior Suite, there was no escort or luggage assistance—just being handed the key. Our suitcase that arrived the day before was brought up later as well. Maybe I’m used to service standards at good hotels in central Tokyo… but since there seemed to be plenty of staff in the lobby, this felt especially disappointing.

    Unable to go sightseeing.

We stayed for two nights during Silver Week. Thanks to the Diamond benefit, we were upgraded and were able to spend our time in a wonderful Room with a Heian-kyo view. From check-in onward, every staff member greeted us with warm smiles throughout our stay, and the service was excellent—truly a first-class Hotel! The Room, the Onsen, breakfast, and even lunch at the French restaurant were all so comfortable that it almost felt like a waste to go out sightseeing. We visit Kyoto many times every year for things like visiting family graves, but since we’re often out and about, we usually choose more affordable hotels. This was our first stay at this Hotel in decades—since the year I started working full-time, when I enjoyed a “nearby little luxury” trip with friends—and even now in the Reiwa era as The Westin Miyako Kyoto, it reminded me what an exceptional experience it offers. From now on, when I have a quieter stay in Kyoto planned, I’d love to use this Hotel again to relax and recharge. Thank you very much.

    A mother-and-child trip for two

Since I was traveling with my mother, I requested a Room that required as little walking as possible, and they kindly arranged a Room near the elevator with a great view. The Onsen at the spa was very relaxing. Dinner was included at Momijiya’s riverside dining platform; it was a short bus ride away, but the atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious. For breakfast, my mother had a Japanese set meal and I had the buffet at the same table—everything was tasty. I only wished there were more juice options. All of the staff were kind and helpful. Thank you very much—we made great memories.

    Third Stay

This time, I made a Reservation because the Plan that takes you to Momijiya in Takao looked interesting. Dinner on the riverside deck was truly atmospheric. The Room was a Junior Suite, and its layout was different from my previous stay, which felt refreshingly new. And of course, the bed was excellent. It might just be my favorite Hotel in Kyoto.

    Happy Accommodation

The Onsen Facility and Room were wonderful, and the bed was excellent. It was the first time I had slept so deeply while staying away from home. It was disappointing that the breakfast venue and pool Facility were crowded, but I suppose it couldn’t be helped. Thank you for a great stay.

    We enjoyed our stay.

We booked the Plan with dinner on a riverside dining platform, and not only was the meal excellent, but we also had a wonderful time chatting with a maiko, which became a great memory.\nThe in-house Facilities were also superb, and we especially enjoyed the Onsen twice.\nWe were truly moved by the warm hospitality of all the staff. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

Thank you for making our anniversary so special.

We stay here every year as a tradition. This year again, when we arrived at the Room, there was a special surprise, and our requests were met exactly as hoped—making it a wonderful trip. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

    We were very satisfied.

I often use nearby hotels to enjoy a relaxing Hotel stay. This was my second stay at The Westin Kyoto, about a year after my first. This time, with my Diamond member benefits applied, we were assigned a wonderful Room, and my husband was very happy as well. Last time, our Room was very far from the elevator and it felt like a hassle even going to the spa, but this time it was right near the elevator, making it easy and comfortable to get around. We fully enjoyed the spa and the club lounge and were very satisfied overall. The pancakes made with the lounge pancake machine were delicious and popular. The other food items were also high quality, which really reflects the Hotel’s high standards. However, the pool changing room had a rather basic setup, and I also noticed an odor in the shower area. Compared with other hotels, there were no chairs or benches either. For that reason, I rated the Facility 4. The hospitality and service were excellent, making for a very pleasant stay. I would definitely like to stay again.

Relax with a delicious breakfast and warm hospitality

I visited Kyoto at the end of summer to enjoy ayu sweetfish and hamo conger eel, and stayed at your Hotel during my trip. Every dish at breakfast was delicious—I ended up eating more than I intended. Above all, what stayed with me most was that everyone associated with the Hotel greeted me warmly whenever we passed in the building. It reminded me how a simple “hello” can truly enrich a person’s heart. Thank you very much for such a wonderful stay. Just one note: because the property is spacious, I got a little turned around. In particular, clearer guidance from the parking area to the front desk would make first-time guests feel more at ease when finding their way. I hope this feedback will be helpful for your future consideration.

    It was clean and beautiful.

The spacious, clean, and beautiful bath area was excellent, and the dry sauna was also large and fantastic. However, since the women’s sauna is a mist sauna, my wife was a little disappointed. As we stayed on the Club Floor this time, thank you for upgrading us free of charge to a Semi-Suite Room on the Heian Shrine side with a great view. Dinner at Momijiya’s riverside dining platform was delicious, and we enjoyed taking photos with a maiko. The Club Floor is very popular at many Hotels these days so I’m sure it’s challenging, but I hope you will continue to maintain your quality while doing your best, and I also hope you will keep working to further improve the breakfast buffet.

It was my first stay in a while, and I’d like to stay here again.

Long ago, we held our wedding at Aoi-den. Since then, we have visited on various occasions, though recently it has mostly been for kimono dressing. As we live in Kyoto, I decided to stay overnight for the first time in a while so I could relax with my daughters. We made Reservations for two Rooms under the Plan “Standard Plan: Enjoy natural Onsen at one of Kyoto’s largest spas – a Kyoto resort stay (Breakfast included) / Deluxe Twin,” and it was truly restful and relaxing. My daughter’s family and my grandchild, who checked in earlier, said they had a great time playing in the pool. My husband and I checked in before 9:00 p.m., but since Spa Kacho was open until 11:00 p.m., we were able to unwind much more than expected. The cheesecake and matcha brûlée we ordered via in-room dining were also delicious. At breakfast the next morning, there was a buffet and many guests were waiting around us, so I worried whether we would be seated before closing time. However, I believe there was still about 40 minutes left. We enjoyed our meal very much. Even though it must have been busy for them, all of the staff worked hard and served us with warm smiles. Our whole family was even more satisfied than we expected, so I ended up writing at length. Thank you very much.

At Kasuien, the number of Rooms you’ll want to stay in—and seasons you’ll want to visit—just keeps growing!

I’ve stayed in Tsuki 1 and Tsuki 7 from the Tsuki series before, but I visited this time because I really wanted to stay in Tsuki 5, which is highly praised by repeat guests of Kasuien. The team at Kasuien kindly accommodated my request, and I was able to enjoy a wonderful stay. This time the kids were away at summer camp, so it was just the two of us—and we fully enjoyed Kasuien as a couple. In the height of summer, being able to experience the endless Higashiyama forest and the chorus of cicadas—immersed in nature while staying in the comfort of Kasuien—was simply amazing. The staff were the familiar faces we always see, which made us feel very at ease. We debated going to Dominica, but chose in-room dining for dinner with a Kasuien bento—absolutely the right choice. You can enjoy both the meal and Kasuien’s comfort to the fullest. It would be such a waste to go out! The stay-in experience was fantastic. We’d love to come again.

Dinner Plan with Kawadoko Dining Included

This is a Hotel I return to often. This time, I used the “Riverside Dining Dinner Included Plan” for the first time. The forecast called for rain, but it was no problem thanks to the Shuttle Service by car to the Hotel and the covered riverside dining platform. A maiko also visited, and I truly enjoyed a wonderful Kyoto evening. I also sincerely appreciate your prompt support with an issue despite it being late at night. I tried the Hotel’s homemade castella for the first time; it was rich and substantial with crunchy sugar crystals, and absolutely delicious. It even had the Hotel name branded on top, which let me relive my travel memories after returning home. Once again, I had a comfortable stay, slept well, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Perfect for a staycation!

Living in Osaka, I often enjoy staying at nearby hotels, and this Hotel is perfect for a staycation. The spa, pool, and fitness gym are clean and free to use. The on-site walking trails have plenty of ups and downs, and if you push yourself to the top, you can take in panoramic views of Higashiyama—it’s hard to believe it’s all within the Hotel grounds. Breakfast was delicious: my elderly mother had the Japanese set meal, and I had the buffet. The Japanese set meal includes mostly the same items as the buffet, but it’s beautifully presented, which helped boost my mother’s appetite. Even with the Japanese set meal, you can still enjoy dessert and drinks—she finished everything all the way through ice cream and fruit. After check-in, we enjoyed ourselves without leaving the Hotel even once. Also, my mother said the whole peach tart she took out from MAYFAIR was incredibly delicious. Thank you for a wonderful treat.

A Hotel you’ll love more with every visit

I think this is a Hotel I grow to love more every time I visit. First, the staff are polite and kind, but beyond that, their friendly way of speaking and welcoming attitude felt approachable rather than formal, which was truly relaxing. The large public bath was an Onsen and very spacious. I often saw the cleaning staff, and everything was consistently kept spotless. Breakfast was delicious item by item—especially the rice balls, egg sandwiches, and bread. This time, I bought some of the breakfast bread and an apple pie as souvenirs at the tea lounge on the second floor. The apple pie was filled with plenty of apples and it was incredibly tasty. Next time, I’d like to take home bread, apple pie, and cake as well.

    Thank you.

This was my first time staying here. It was also my first time taking the Hotel shuttle bus. I checked in feeling a bit anxious, but the warm hospitality quickly put me at ease. From the lunch buffet to breakfast, the spa, walks in the garden and mountains, I made many wonderful memories. The Room was spacious and comfortable. I especially loved the shampoo and conditioner in the Onsen, so I bought them to take home. I’d like to savor these memories for a while. I would love to stay again when I visit Kyoto next time. Thank you very much for your kind support and hospitality.

    I had been looking f...

I had been looking forward to seeing what the club lounge at this historic Hotel would be like, but the selection of food and drinks was limited. At tea time, there were only two kinds of small cakes, and while the quality was good, there were just a few other items such as small chocolates, konpeito sugar candies, and about two types of rice crackers—overall a bit disappointing compared with other Hotels’ club lounges. However, I was surprised to find a machine that automatically makes pancakes, though the same machine was also available at the breakfast venue, so it did not seem to be exclusive to the club lounge. At cocktail time as well, there were not many kinds of alcoholic beverages. There were only two or three small Japanese-style side dishes, along with standard items like ham, cheese, crackers, a little salad—again falling short compared with the club lounges at Hotels I regularly use. Because my expectations were high, I did feel disappointed; however, the staff’s service was truly top-class and their hospitality was outstanding. As someone who often stays on club floors at other 4-star and 5-star Hotels, I also felt that enforcing check-in strictly from 3:00 p.m. was a bit inflexible. At most of the club floors at Hotels I use in Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, and Tokyo (for example), they usually start accepting check-in around 2:30 p.m., which is why it stood out even more here.

Thank you to the lobby staff.

What impressed me most was the lobby staff. If you’re carrying luggage or look like you might need a hand, they’ll rush over and speak to you right away—even from a distance. It feels wonderful. It reminded me of a Hotel in Wakura Onsen that ranked No. 1 in Japan for many years before the Noto earthquake. Thank you to the lobby staff.\nI also joined the in-house tour. I’ve stayed at this Hotel many times, but I didn’t know about the “Heart Spiral Staircase” or the “Celebrity Memorabilia Corner,” and I would definitely like to stay at “Kasuien” at least once.\nThe only downside was breakfast: the aisle and tables were very close together, so it didn’t feel very relaxing.

Accommodation for Viewing the Gozan Okuribi Bonfires

I stayed for two nights to host a friend and enjoy a trip to Kyoto and the Gozan Okuribi. Because my expectations for the Hotel were high, there were several disappointing points. First, I was scheduled to check in around 15:20, but I was not able to enter the Room until 16:30. While waiting, I was told, “Please wait at a seat where we have prepared sweets and coffee,” but in reality there were no coffee cups or plates for sweets. Because I waited for over an hour, I lost time to take a shower or check the view from the Room before meeting for dinner. The most disappointing issue this time was the guidance regarding the Gozan Okuribi. I stayed on August 16 and asked a staff member at check-in about the reception time for the Okuribi dinner. After dinner we watched from the Hotel terrace, but it was extremely crowded and we had to watch while standing, looking over other people’s heads. However, when we later returned to our Room and looked outside, I believe we could have enjoyed a calmer and clearer view of the fires from our Room. Of course, my Plan did not state that the fires could be seen from the Room, so that is not something I am demanding of the Hotel. However, since I specifically asked about the Okuribi at check-in, if someone had simply said, “You may also be able to see them from your Room—please do check,” it would have become a much nicer memory. If check-in had been on time as well, we would have had time to confirm the view ourselves. One more point: regarding the IKYU Diamond member benefit credit of JPY 3,000 (three thousand yen), it was explained that it could be used at in-house restaurants or room service; however, there was no explanation that drinks in the in-room refrigerator were excluded. As a result, I purchased items assuming they would be eligible and ended up unable to use my credit. Each issue may seem minor on its own; however, with delayed check-in plus insufficient guidance and lack of information about viewing options for the Okuribi all combined into an overall disappointing stay. In particular, because this trip centered on enjoying Gozan Okuribi with my invited friend as a special occasion event,, one extra thoughtful comment from staff could have made it far more memorable. Going forward,, please provide more careful guidance and hospitality so you can meet guests’ expectations when they choose your Accommodation for special occasions.

    It was excellent.

Thank you for taking care of us during the Obon holidays. After checking in and entering our Room, there were a few things that concerned us, so we spoke with the Hotel staff, and they immediately changed our Room, allowing us to have a very comfortable stay. A staff member even came to the lounge to check on us and showed great consideration so we could relax, and we felt the younger staff were especially efficient and wonderful. The spa was also very pleasant. The staff were constantly cleaning, but they did not enter areas where guests were present; as soon as someone left, they quickly cleaned—this attentiveness was excellent. Every staff member greeted us with a warm smile, which made us feel very comfortable. We ordered in-room dining; it was delicious, and the staff were also very pleasant. Breakfast was great as well—the onigiri made to order and the egg station were delicious, and all of the chefs’ service was outstanding. It really made us want to visit again. The view from our Room around Heian Shrine was beautiful, it was quiet, and we slept well at night. We definitely want to stay again.

A wonderful Hotel no matter when you visit.

Thank you for taking care of me again, even though it was only a one-night stay this time, following my stay the week before last. This Room was one I have stayed in before as well, and it is one of my favorites. I regularly use Rakuku and MAYFAIR. Kyoto has many wonderful hotels, and while I stay less frequently than before, I still feel this is a Hotel that delivers a high level of satisfaction every time I visit. Another major attraction is being able to use the Onsen as many times as you like during your stay. I also stay at Marriott hotels, but the distinctly Japanese hospitality unique to Kintetsu Miyako Hotels as a dual-brand Hotel offers a different kind of reassurance and consistency compared with foreign single-brand hotels. I am especially impressed by the housekeeping team. Many staff members are from overseas, but whenever we pass each other in the building, everyone always greets me pleasantly, which leaves a great impression every time. I had another comfortable stay. I would love to visit again.

Simply put: outstanding. This was my first stay, and every staff member was kind and attentive, making it very comfortable. The Room was spacious and spotless, with plenty of amenities provided. The Spa Kacho was also beautiful and very clean—you could tell it was being cleaned constantly—and mineral water was always available. That kind of generosity really makes a great impression on guests. The breakfast venue felt open and airy, and the food was delicious. I used the IKYU perk of JPY 3,000 to buy castella; it feels luxurious, and I’m looking forward to trying it. I happened to book during a sale at about half price this time; normally this is a Hotel I couldn’t easily afford, but I’d love to return if I get the chance again. Also, the slippers were wonderfully plush—perfect.

Staying to make memories with my grandchild, who will be studying abroad at UCLA in the U.S. starting in September.

My grandchild who lives in Singapore will be studying abroad at the University of California, Los Angeles starting in September, so I planned a trip for myself and my three grandchildren together with my two granddaughters who live in Takarazuka. We chose this Hotel because the spa looked great and it also has a pool. It was a hot day, and as soon as we arrived, the kids went straight to the pool. The spa was clean, and I enjoyed using it with my grandchildren. We had teppanyaki for dinner; the Kobe beef was delicious and the kids were very happy. The breakfast buffet was also excellent. On our way back, we were taken to Kyoto Station by shuttle bus. It was extremely hot, so it was great to travel comfortably.

A soothing Onsen spa amid the chorus of cicadas

When I mentioned that walking is a bit difficult for me, they kindly moved us to a Room closer to Spa Kacho and the elevator. The shorter route was truly appreciated. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy the Onsen twice—once in the evening and once in the morning. In the Room, there was a large vanity table next to a big bed. It was very convenient for skincare, since I didn’t have to go back and forth to the bathroom each time. They also lent me a step stool for getting onto the high bed, and a high chair (bath chair) to place in front of the sink. As a result, even an elderly guest could relax and fully enjoy their Hotel stay. From check-in to check-out, the service was consistently pleasant—this is a Hotel you’ll want to return to again and again.

We booked a Plan that included dinner on the riverside platform (sukiyaki), and my mother was absolutely delighted. The Shuttle Service made everything comfortable, and both the portion size and hospitality were more than sufficient. It also made me happy to see so many international guests enjoying themselves. We were able to take our time using the Hotel’s Facilities such as the pool, spa, and gym, and even went for a morning walk to Nanzen-ji Temple—despite the heat, we truly enjoyed our stay in Kyoto. I was also impressed that the bedding (sheets) had the best texture and feel I’ve ever experienced. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality.

The best Hotel I have ever stayed at.

I was satisfied with everything: the hospitality of the Hotel staff, the spaciousness and cleanliness of the room, visiting Kasuien within the Hotel, the pool, the Onsen, and the historical exhibits about The Westin Hotel. As a historic Hotel, it was the most satisfying one I have ever stayed at.

    For a family birthday celebration

I still couldn’t forget the wonderful impression from our previous stay, so we chose to stay again on this special occasion—our family member’s birthday. During our stay, the Hotel surprised us with a birthday cake, and we were truly touched by their thoughtful gesture. Inside the property, we enjoyed strolling through the historic Kasuien and the beautifully maintained gardens, spending a relaxing time while feeling its long history and charm. Throughout the Hotel, you can sense the dignity and elegance that comes from being loved by many notable figures and historical personalities. For dinner, at my son’s request we had teppanyaki; not only was the food excellent, but the attentive hospitality made it a memorable experience. The spacious, comfortable Room and the soothing Onsen were also wonderful, allowing us to unwind and forget about everyday life. Thanks to the warm hospitality of all the staff, it became an irreplaceable birthday. We sincerely appreciate everything. We would love to stay again when we visit Kyoto.
