Hotel Kawachiya Izu Shimogamo Onsen 100% Natural Hot Spring

Although the open-air bath was soaked by rain due to the typhoon, it was a great Onsen. The meals were also delicious, with no corners cut in the cooking.

The best time to unwind while listening to the sound of rain on the bamboo outside the window. I think this is the most affordable Room, but when you turn on the tap in the semi-unit bath, piping-hot natural hot spring water comes out. I filled it up and by the next morning it was just the right temperature. The large public bath felt a little lukewarm for me (though that also means you can soak longer). The rich, soothing water helps release tension in my body. I slept extremely well. I also appreciate that they don’t put away the futon.The Room has a Showa-era feel, but it’s calm and not bad at all. Only the toilet and sink area are modern Reiwa-style (indirect lighting, automatic lid), clean and nice. However, the hair dryer is an old wall-mounted SANYO model—I would have brought my own if I’d known. One more thing: there were no hot-spring tabi socks; I would have brought some as well. Other amenities are minimal, but that’s enough for me since I usually don’t use them anyway.The meals were delicious and just the right amount—maybe even a little less would be fine; next time I’d like to try their special hot pot course. The rice was glossy and very tasty.The service was calm and experienced, and personally I like that they give you plenty of space without hovering.There may be more insects in summer. This time I encountered a big spider in my Room—maybe it was a guardian spirit.Next time will be perfect if I bring my own hair dryer and tabi socks. I’ll be back again.
