We visited for a family trip to celebrate our daughter’s marriage. As it was formerly an art museum, we were overwhelmed by the meticulously designed building by Tadao Ando and the many artworks displayed throughout the property. The Room was extremely comfortable, and the pool we had been looking forward to was wonderful—we were able to fully enjoy this extraordinary space. We expected Western cuisine, but instead were delighted by beautifully refined Japanese dishes. The drink pairings matched to each course were perfect, and every dish moved us. The congratulatory wedding cake we had ordered was also truly delicious and became a wonderful keepsake. We sincerely appreciate the warm hospitality of all the staff. This is a superb Hotel where architecture, art, and food are all in harmony, and we would love to stay again.

Following stays at Fufu Nikko, Atami, Hakone, and Jogashima, we were also able to stay in Ginza. There is nothing but complete satisfaction with everything—the Room, the bath, and the meals. Although we have stayed at Fufu many times, we felt thoughtfulness and warmth everywhere, and it was one moving moment after another. Being able to enjoy a drink while soaking in the footbath and taking in the city views truly felt like Ginza. My mother is currently undergoing treatment, but staying at Fufu also helps boost her immunity. We can only be grateful that we were able to spend such a happy time together as parent and child. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the General Manager and all of the staff who assisted us. We will visit again later this year. We look forward to seeing you all again.

The meals, the Room, the service—and of course the Onsen—everything is perfect! This is an Accommodation that makes you think, “I want to come back,” every time you visit. We were completely satisfied with everything: savoring elaborate kaiseki cuisine at a relaxed pace in a private dining room, the private gazebo, and the hospitality in the lounge. Thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful attention to detail. It rained on our arrival day, but even the rainy sea felt beautiful. We’re also looking forward to receiving the handmade pressed-flower postcard later on.

It had been a while since I last experienced truly Ryokan-style hospitality in Japan. Even if you go out of your way to stay somewhere other than a Hotel, an Accommodation designated as a cultural property or one with a long history is not always guaranteed to be comfortable—but this time, the proprietress’s service in particular stood out, and I was able to appreciate her refined and thoughtful attention to detail.

I enjoyed exceptional cuisine and the Onsen at this small luxury Accommodation. The staff’s warm, attentive hospitality, the well-appointed Facilities and amenities, and the beautiful selection of tableware by Kyoto artisans all made for a wonderful holiday.

I chose “Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto by Banyan Tree” as my Accommodation when visiting the Gion Matsuri (Saki Matsuri). I live in Nishinomiya, so it’s close enough for a day trip, but since it was the Gion Festival, I decided to stay overnight. After considering several options, I finally chose Garrya, which I’d been curious about for some time. I checked in in the evening, and as soon as I passed through the entrance and reached the lobby, I was breathless at the beautiful green garden framed by the large windows. I was even more moved by how the trees were reflected on the large stone table—it felt almost like being in an art museum. The calm atmosphere instantly eased my fatigue, and I truly felt glad I had chosen this place. My Room was on the third floor—Room 305 (Nijo Castle View Twin). The reflection of greenery even appeared above the window, creating an unexpectedly spacious feel that really impressed me. The use of stone flooring also gave it a wonderfully solid, luxurious presence. The raised area featured black tatami mats—something we Japanese guests especially appreciate. From the furniture and cushions to the bedding, every detail felt carefully considered, and I was completely satisfied. For breakfast, I chose their “Wellbeing” concept option—it was genuinely delicious and deeply impressive. The staff were flawless as well. Although it may seem like a high-end property at first glance, there were many younger staff members too, and their warm hospitality made me want to chat with them naturally. You’re sure to have a wonderful stay here.

Overall, it was a compact Accommodation, but perhaps because it is new, it was very clean and comfortable. Although it is a new Facility, the in-room TV was not a smart TV, so I’m deducting one star; however, the breakfast was delicious, and Nono is wonderful as always.

I stayed here for a concert trip this time. Because of the concert end time and traffic, I didn’t arrive until 9:00 PM, and I ended up getting to dinner very late, but you welcomed me with a smile and I had a wonderful time. Breakfast was also delicious, and since I had some time before checkout, I was able to take a walk in Kenrokuen Garden across the street. The location is excellent, and above all, every staff member was smiling and seemed genuinely happy—I would definitely like to stay here again the next time I visit Kanazawa. We stayed at Tamayura this time, and the spacious open-air bath attached to our Room and the overall atmosphere were outstanding. In addition, the private open-air bath “Sora” was wonderful, allowing us to enjoy a truly relaxing time as a couple. Dinner was delicious, and the attendant (Ms. K) who took care of us provided excellent explanations of each dish and impeccable timing with the service. Even at departure the next day, Ms. K kindly came all the way to our car to see us off—perfect hospitality from start to finish. My wife is already saying she wants to stay again, so we’ve placed it at the very top of our list of Accommodations we want to revisit as a couple.

It was a wonderful stay. I hope to visit again someday. If I could make one request, I would have preferred the bedside water to be a Japanese brand as well.

Staying at the dreamlike Accommodation “Bansuirou Fukuzumi”—and on top of that, being able to make a Reservation for “Room 15”—felt unreal. I honestly thought, “No way… really?” After waiting for months, the day finally arrived, and from the moment I stepped into the front desk area, everything was already overflowing with charm. Mr. H, the manager who guided us to our Room, was incredibly kind and also took great care in showing us around the building. I’m truly grateful to have heard such in-depth stories as well—it made me realize that maintaining an Important Cultural Property involves far more effort than I had imagined. The famous ceiling painting was breathtaking too. Everything was simply stunning; outside, the evening cicadas were singing and made the atmosphere even more special. After fully enjoying Room 15, we headed to the bath—what I’d been looking forward to most: the Onsen. The indoor tiles were so cute, and the Onsen left my skin feeling relaxed and silky-smooth—absolutely wonderful. Every dish was carefully prepared and delicious as well. Thank you so much for accommodating my allergies—I truly appreciate it. Our attendant was also very friendly and lovely. And thank you for providing Shuttle Service too. Being able to stay at “Bansuirou Fukuzumi,” and having encountered this place at all, has become a lifelong memory—I feel so happy to have had such a precious experience. Even if Room 15 becomes a café someday, I’ll be cheering you on. I would love to visit again. The truly precious Important Cultural Property: Bansuirou Fukuzumi

We stayed as a couple. Rather than a Ryokan, it felt like a museum—an atmosphere of calm and refined elegance throughout. The property features abundant wood, and a clean, refreshing scent reminiscent of hinoki cypress and herbs filled the air, creating a distinctly Japanese ambiance. It was clear that everything was meticulously maintained; the Room, lobby, and large public bath were all spotless, making our stay feel fresh and comfortable. Every meal was delicious, but the charcoal-grilled ayu sweetfish and the mixed rice cooked with abalone and turban shell were exceptional. Not only the luxurious dishes stood out—the simple steamed vegetables at breakfast also left a strong impression with their natural sweetness. We also appreciated that plenty of towels and bath towels were provided in both the large public bath and the open-air bath in our Room, so we could bathe as many times as we liked in complete comfort. We had such a wonderful time that we would gladly make “staying at Muka-yu” the very purpose of our trip. Thank you very much.

The staff’s service and the overall atmosphere were even better than the last time we stayed! Watching the fire in the fireplace… and the outdoor bonfire, like a campfire, was especially memorable. The bath was also very relaxing, and above all, we were able to unwind without worrying about time. Thank you very much.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. There was only one reason I came to Shirahama: To stay at Kuroshio Sou. When people think of Shirahama, many picture the sea and resorts. But what I found here was Wakayama itself. What moved me most at this Accommodation was not only how outstanding the food was. It was Head Chef Etani’s exceptional skill, and his deep respect for the producers who support every single dish. Fishermen. Farmers. Brewers. Roasters. And the artisans who continue to protect Japan’s fermentation culture. The moment I saw the map of producers introduced alongside the meal, I understood what this Accommodation truly values. Through the cuisine, you encounter not only ingredients, but also the people behind them and Wakayama’s climate and character. I was especially impressed by how delicious the soy sauce and Kinzanji miso were at dinner. When I asked about them, I learned they were from Horigawaya Nomura—a producer with over 350 years of history that still preserves traditional craftsmanship using firewood-heated iron kettles—making both their soy sauce and Kinzanji miso in that way today as well. I had originally planned to visit a different soy sauce brewery, but heavy rain made it impossible. Sometimes, the places you cannot reach end up guiding you to the story you were truly meant to find. For me, Kuroshio Sou was exactly that kind of place. The wonderful Onsen gently healed not only my body, but my mind as well. The quiet comfort throughout the building, Chef Etani’s cuisine, and the hospitality of all staff— together they quietly express this Accommodation’s philosophy in everything it does。 As a former chef from Tasmania, there is something I felt deeply: True hospitality is not just serving delicious food; it is helping guests connect with the people and culture that sustain a place。 I now have one more reason to return to Wakayama。 Thank you again from my heart.

Although it is located in the city center, it was quiet, and we fully enjoyed the Onsen in the open-air bath attached to our Room. Meals were served in a private dining area directly connected to the Room; it can be locked, and during service it is separated from the guest Room, so our privacy was protected and we could relax with peace of mind. The food was also very delicious.

The kindness of the staff, the comfort of the Room, and the truly delicious cuisine—everything was as wonderful as always. It has been three years since reopening, and I was heartbroken to hear the sad news that it will close in November. I am truly disappointed and at a loss for words. It was a superb auberge. I will visit again before it closes.

As the title suggests, the meals were truly impressive. They focused on local ingredients, and each dish was carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The amenities were good, but it was inconvenient that the toilet was in the same space as the bath and washbasin. Also, I could hear footsteps from upstairs and the sound of doors opening and closing, which started to bother me and made it hard to sleep. It may have felt even louder because the surroundings are so quiet. The lake view was wonderful, and all of the staff were very kind—I’m truly grateful.

Due to bad weather, we changed our travel destination and ended up staying here at short notice as a family of five. Everyone except the person who made the Reservation wasn’t very enthusiastic until we arrived, but our stay here won them over and they were extremely satisfied. We felt truly relaxed by the meals, the atmosphere of the Room, and the hospitality. Personally, I was thrilled to find several types of Isamu Noguchi lighting in the traditional Japanese house-style Room. Next time, I’d love to spend time here during the rainy season or when the fresh greenery is at its best.
