We had a very comfortable stay, including the Room, meals (featuring ingredients from Kochi), and the large public bath. The sweet yuzu tea in the post-bath lounge was especially delicious. (It would be even better if it were refilled a bit more often.) Also, when we asked where we could use handheld fireworks, the front desk staff immediately told us that it would be possible near Lawson in Josei Park, about a 5–10 minute walk from the Accommodation (on the concrete-paved area). This was extremely helpful, and our child was able to enjoy fireworks. (We asked at other hotels as well, but couldn’t find out where it was allowed.) Just one point: our child’s dinner was prepared as Western-style, although it seems Japanese-style could also be chosen. If it is selectable, we would appreciate being asked in advance (ideally at the time of Reservation). Since our child prefers Japanese food, we shared from our meal instead. (At check-in, we were told it had already been prepared and changing it would require remaking it with an additional charge.) Overall, we had a very comfortable stay and would definitely like to use this Accommodation again on our next visit to Kochi. (A small detail: the in-room refrigerator had a freezer function, which really helped us refreeze ice packs.)

With Akita Station almost directly connected, I left my luggage before noon and walked to the Prefectural Art Museum and Senshu Park before checking in. There was also a 7-Eleven and a Starbucks on the first floor. The Room was clean and quiet, so I could relax well. On the way back, I took the airport bus, and the bus stop was right in front, which was very convenient.

I made a Reservation for my family’s stay. They said the breakfast was delicious, there was soft-serve ice cream, and the Room was comfortable.

Every year during the Obon holiday season, I stay here to avoid the crowds. It feels like there are more tourists each year, but it still never feels crowded, and I love being able to relax and fully enjoy nature. This year, a typhoon caused a power outage across the entire area on our first day, and the electricity went out around 7:00 PM right at dinnertime. It was inconvenient in many ways, but the meal was still lavish and delicious, and during the outage we managed with other guests using our phone lights. However, it wasn’t just that we couldn’t use electricity—there was no air conditioning, running water, or even toilets available until power was restored at 11:00 PM, which honestly made us anxious. Even so, the staff repeatedly brought us drinking water and even offered Shuttle Service by car to nearby restrooms in a small pocket park so we wouldn’t feel uneasy. Their warm support truly meant a lot to us. After the power came back on—even though it was late at night—they came to inspect the open-air bath in our Room as well. Thanks to that, we could relax with peace of mind in the Onsen and go to sleep feeling refreshed. Because they have their own private hot spring source, hot water pours into the in-room open-air bath with incredible force nonstop. I couldn’t help asking, “Is it really okay to let it run this much?!”—and they told me this is one of Tomiya’s proud features. We gratefully enjoyed the open-air bath many times and my skin felt wonderfully smooth. When you stay two nights, the menu changes as well—and everything is so luxurious you can hardly finish it all. Between the food and especially the warm hospitality from everyone on staff, we had another wonderful two-night stay. Because there aren’t many tourist attractions nearby, you can enjoy a truly luxurious trip focused on rest and refreshment without being rushed from place to place. Thank you again for such a lovely time this year. We’ll be back again next year.

Having stayed at retreat Hotels all over the whole country, I found this Retreat Onko Chishin to be outstanding in every way. The Room, bath, meals and drinks, and hospitality all delivered a high level of satisfaction, making for a truly pleasant stay. This Hotel has been reborn through the renovation of an existing Hotel, and the quality of the renovation and overall atmosphere were excellent.

The moment I stepped into the building at check-in, the stylish lobby raised my expectations. The Room we were shown was not only chic with a modern Japanese touch, but also spacious and relaxing. Some Accommodations look great but have cheap furniture; here, you could really feel the quality and attention to detail in the furnishings, which made it even more comfortable. The in-room bath was fed directly from the hot spring source, and the washing area was roomy—there was no need to use the large public bath. I ended up bathing four times in one night. Even details like the hair dryer and shampoo amenities showed thoughtful selection. The meals were excellent, especially dinner. They made great use of local ingredients; every dish was creative, original, and delicious. There aren’t many Accommodations that make me want to return, but this one truly did. The staff were also very pleasant and welcoming.

Except during the COVID period, I have stayed here almost every year before the rainy season. The Hotel may look a bit plain from the outside, but the staff are refreshingly pleasant and very welcoming (especially at breakfast, where they greet you with smiles and work efficiently), and the Room seems to have been renovated—it is very clean and feels fresh. There is also a large public bath; it’s on the small side, but for me this is a Hotel I’m extremely satisfied with. The only reason I deducted one star is simply as a hopeful suggestion: I would be happy if there were a way for more people to use the large public bath at once. It’s not really a complaint, but at night it was unsettling not knowing whether it was full until I actually went there. That’s truly my only point. Breakfast in particular is excellent: small portions of side dishes are neatly arranged in little bowls, beautifully presented and clearly well prepared—I can only admire it. Because it’s so satisfying just to look at, I don’t end up taking too much and overeating, which I think is wonderful. In any case, this is my favorite Hotel. I’d like to stay again next year.

We stayed in the detached Akiseian. It had a large open-air bath attached to the Room, and since the weather was nice, we enjoyed it many times. The hot spring water was slightly silky and felt wonderful. The food was delicious, and there was a wide variety of sake to enjoy. It seems other detached Rooms also have large private baths, so we would like to stay again in a different season.

Just as the Reviews said, every dish we had been looking forward to was truly delicious. We were impressed by the careful seasoning and attention to detail, even in the side dishes. The Facility felt historic, but everything—including the bath—was well maintained and very clean. We were looking for an Accommodation with a tatami Room so it would be comfortable for our one-year-old. We were a bit nervous that our child might touch the hanging scrolls or shoji screens, but our meals were served separately from other guests, and it was still very easy to spend time here even with a child. Above all, everyone at the Accommodation was warm and welcoming, which made our stay truly comfortable. We’re sorry for any trouble caused by our child, but we sincerely appreciated your kind support until the very end. We visited as a family to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthday, and they were extremely satisfied. It became a once-in-a-lifetime family memory. Thank you very much.

This was a truly wonderful Accommodation. Our family takes 2–3 trips a year to an Onsen Accommodation that we can reach from Tokyo for one night, usually spending around JPY 30,000–40,000 per person. My wife chooses the Accommodation each time, but lately none have been memorable or especially appealing—until now. For the first time in a while, we found an Accommodation we genuinely want to visit again. Many of the staff are from Southeast Asia, but they told us they have passed JLPT N1 and also undergo a one-year training period. We never once had any trouble communicating. I previously lived in Thailand for about five years, so I already knew people from Southeast Asia are often even more diligent and hardworking than Japanese people—but I was still impressed by just how much so. Thanks to them, we were able to spend a very comfortable and pleasant time here. These days many staff members don’t wear name tags (perhaps due to measures against customer harassment), so I didn’t catch anyone’s name, but I would like to sincerely thank the woman who took care of our Room—she was wonderful and very thoughtful. The heartfelt send-off by all staff after checkout truly moved me. As for the Onsen: honestly, both the water quality and the bath itself felt fairly standard, though everything was very clean. One thing I noticed is that it’s great not having to bring towels into the bath area; however, you still need to carry things like fresh underwear or your phone. In the end I used a plastic shopping bag out of necessity, but it would be helpful if you could provide (and leave in the Room) a larger drawstring pouch like those commonly found at other Onsen facilities. Also, my wife said she felt scared because it was dark on the way to the large bath and inside the bathing area as well. Lastly, we felt that the air conditioner noise was slightly loud—just mentioning this in case it helps. And finally—the meals were outstanding! The balance, portion size, and taste were all impeccable. Because I’m quite big (and eat a lot), meals at most Accommodations aren’t enough for me; this time I shared small portions of my wife’s meal with our son as well and still felt about 90% full—in other words, very satisfied without being overly stuffed. While breakfast is often disappointing at many places these days, breakfast here was also excellent—especially because it wasn’t that typical thin and overly crispy dried horse mackerel you often see elsewhere. And above all: the wasabi was delicious! Being able to get refills freely made it even better. In any case, we definitely want to come again—thank you very much.

We always stay here when traveling with three generations, and we truly appreciate your hospitality. (It also feels nostalgic because my father worked here back in the Kanpo days!) Since the renovation, it has become even more comfortable for children, and we made more wonderful memories again this time. As part of the summer vacation program, our kids were thrilled right after arrival with the cardboard maze and the guests-only soft-serve ice cream and ice pops! At dinner, there were also summer-only treats like chocolate bananas and shaved ice—like a fun festival. They were set up so they couldn’t be seen from our seats at first, so after the kids finished their meal and we told them about it, they happily went to get some. We really like that both breakfast and dinner are served at the table rather than buffet-style, so we can relax and enjoy our meal. The dishes used Yaizu sashimi and rice, and we could feel the care put into the food. And we were absolutely full!!! The Onsen water quality has been great for years, and my mother and daughter were able to relax together. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and had a welcome little visitor (a cicada)! The kids loved it (it was gone by morning). The staff at the front desk and shop were kind and helpful as well—this is a Hotel where we can feel safe and comfortable. If there were a Room that could accommodate six people, that would be perfect; from next time we will need to book two rooms. We would be very happy if there were an option where everyone could stay together. Thank you again for your continued support.

The meal, made with plenty of local ingredients, was satisfying in both quality and quantity. It paired very well with the local sake we received as a perk. The Room was flawless, including the open-air bath. The large public bath at the sister property across the road (seaside) was also excellent, but since it was rainy that day, it felt a bit inconvenient to use. The large public bath at SAZANA was also a little small, which was the only disappointment. The service was friendly and attentive, and we were truly able to relax. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

The staff were very friendly, and the food was delicious. The Onsen water was also excellent. Since it was a weekday, there were few guests, so I could relax and enjoy the bath. If I had to mention one thing, the water temperature was a bit too hot, so I couldn’t stay in for long.

I stayed here on a solo trip. Everyone at the Accommodation was incredibly kind and helpful! The meals at the Accommodation were beautifully presented and delicious—I was very satisfied. I was surprised that the drinks in the Room were free! I enjoyed having alcohol on the terrace to cool off in the evening, and drinking oolong tea after a bath, haha. In the morning, I made drip coffee using hot water from the water dispenser and spent my time feeling refreshed. The Room was also very clean, and the in-room bath was an Onsen. There wasn’t any mold at all in the bathroom. The grout was spotless, the faucets were shiny, and even the drain was clean. The large public bath was great too—the design is lovely. This time my goal for the next day was visiting shrines, so I went to Ishigami-san, Hikodaki Daimyojin, and Isawa Shrine. They kindly explained nearby roads and how to get around, which helped a lot. What’s more, even after I had checked out, they actually ran after me just to give me a taxi company phone number. Thanks to that, I could take a taxi when traveling from Hikodaki Daimyojin to Isawa Shrine and arrived an hour earlier! They also recommended a very kind taxi company, so the driver told me what preparations I needed for visiting Isawa Shrine as well—and I made it up safely! It turned into such a wonderful trip! I’d definitely love to stay again!

The breakfast was really delicious, It’s an easy walk into town for shopping, The Room was clean, though it might feel a bit small. Still, it’s a great Hotel and we had a wonderful stay. We’ll come again.

We stayed here as a couple in August. It was very reasonably priced, yet everything was excellent overall. The meal included wagyu beef grilled on a ceramic plate, and even if it was cooked a bit too long, it was still very tender. The other dishes were also delicious. The portions were generous, and we were completely satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. The staff were friendly, and the building was clean. We’d love to use the bath again. If we have the chance, we would definitely stay again, and we would recommend it to others as well.

I stayed here with my sons when they came home for the Obon holidays. Both the lobby and the salon were solid, elegant, and wonderful. From our Room window we could see the river and the sea, and we spent a relaxing time watching the sunset. Dinner was luxurious and delicious, but for me—now over 70—the portions were a bit too large. They asked how much of the finishing sea bream ochazuke we wanted, and I was surprised when my sons chose extra-large servings. The pudding was as delicious as ever, so I enjoyed it easily as a separate dessert stomach. This is an Accommodation I would love to visit again if I have the chance. I stayed at this Accommodation yesterday! The service was very attentive, and the in-room open-air bath was flawless. Watching the staff grill and prepare sushi right in front of us at dinner and breakfast made the experience even better. Thank you for a wonderful one-night stay!

Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. The large public bath, the private bath, and the meals were all wonderful. Thank you as well for accommodating our allergies. About 20 years ago, we visited with our family on a day trip and used the jungle-themed bath. Now that our children are fully independent, this time it was just the two of us as a couple. The atmosphere of the baths has completely changed, but it still felt somehow nostalgic. In our Room, the thicker curtain did not slide properly, and there was a part we could not close before going to bed. It was also a little disappointing that the toilet and washbasin area felt quite old. Even so, everything—including seeing us off at departure—was excellent, and we would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

I highly recommend this Onsen Facility for guests traveling with dogs—there aren’t many places where you can relax this much. Even in the recent hot summers, the on-site dog run is more than enough, with two spacious areas where dogs can play happily to their heart’s content. The view from the bath is simply amazing, and I end up soaking again and again. In the lobby café, there is a complimentary drink service, and with the great scenery and atmosphere, you can unwind together with your dog. Dinner can also be enjoyed buffet-style with your dog by your side, and everything tastes delicious. You can truly enjoy every moment together with your beloved pet. Another favorite is breakfast the next morning: it comes as a sandwich box that you can take back to your Room to eat. It also feels like there’s no concern about bears appearing around here, and it has become a place I absolutely want to visit at least once a year—honestly, I’d come every month if I could.
