There’s no welcome drink—check-in is simple. However, the Room does have snacks and tea. I found it a bit inconvenient that there was only one key. The dining area is refined, and I really enjoyed the salt-grilled ayu cooked over the irori right in front of us. That said, there was no explanation at the start that certain alcoholic drinks were all-you-can-drink, so I would have appreciated a brief note upfront. I asked later and then ordered. Also, since your hands get messy when eating ayu, it would be nice to have an extra hand towel. Overall, the service felt minimal for the price. Still, everything was very clean, the renovations were nicely done, and the food was delicious—so I was very satisfied overall. It’s an Accommodation I’d like to stay at again.

My parents, my younger brother, my child, and I stayed here using two cars this time. Since there is a drop-off parking area in front of the Hotel, it was easy to unload and check in with my child, and we could take our luggage to the Room in one trip. The parking lot was also close by, spacious, and easy to park in! The Room was clean, and my child made a beeline for the hammock chair! They enjoyed it with a big smile—and it was fun for adults to use too. My child was fascinated by the manual coffee grinder provided in the Room. They ground the beans themselves and made coffee for the whole family! My parents were delighted by coffee prepared by their grandchild. Seeing my child look so proud was adorable! We used the baths a lot (we tried all of the private baths), so being able to get drinks and replenish salt anytime was really appreciated. The meals were delicious—I ate so much I felt stuffed (lol). It was great that my child, who usually watches a lot of TV, had so much fun playing table tennis—we all enjoyed it as a family! My child got the most exercise there. We also enjoyed karaoke—there never seemed to be enough time. All of the staff were kind and attentive with their explanations and support, which made our stay very comfortable. We would love to stay again!

The Okinawa Fair and the tuna carving show were amazing! This was our second visit during summer vacation, and it was so delicious that we’d love for you to hold it again next year. The open-air bath in the Room was also very comfortable, and no matter how many times we visit in a year, we never get tired of it. The warm smiles and attentive hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff are so comforting and relaxing that every time we come, we find ourselves wanting to return again soon. We’ll be back before the end of the year—thank you very much.

The bath and Room were clean and comfortable, and all the staff were very kind. Both dinner and breakfast had just the right seasoning and portions, and everything was delicious. It would be perfect if breakfast included a small dessert bite and after-meal coffee. This was a Ryokan I would definitely like to stay at again and recommend to friends. I’ve stayed in Tsuki 1 and Tsuki 7 from the Tsuki series before, but I visited this time because I really wanted to stay in Tsuki 5, which is highly praised by repeat guests of Kasuien. The team at Kasuien kindly accommodated my request, and I was able to enjoy a wonderful stay. This time the kids were away at summer camp, so it was just the two of us—and we fully enjoyed Kasuien as a couple. In the height of summer, being able to experience the endless Higashiyama forest and the chorus of cicadas—immersed in nature while staying in the comfort of Kasuien—was simply amazing. The staff were the familiar faces we always see, which made us feel very at ease. We debated going to Dominica, but chose in-room dining for dinner with a Kasuien bento—absolutely the right choice. You can enjoy both the meal and Kasuien’s comfort to the fullest. It would be such a waste to go out! The stay-in experience was fantastic. We’d love to come again.

When I mentioned in advance that we would be staying to celebrate a birthday, they prepared balloons and a congratulatory message in our Room, which truly moved us. They also kindly offered complimentary use of the private bath, so we were able to enjoy a very relaxing bathing time. We were also happy to receive a dessert plate at dinner. For the children, there was a fireworks set, a cute amenities set, gifts for answering quiz questions, and festival-style activities such as target shooting and string-pulling games. There was also self-serve shaved ice where you could adjust the portion size yourself, which was great. At the pool, there were free self-serve rentals of float rings and water guns as well, so we had a lot of fun. There was so much to enjoy that our child was absolutely delighted. We chose the breakfast and dinner buffet options. At dinner there was a live kitchen with hand-rolled sushi and steak (I think), and everything was very delicious. The value for money felt unbelievably good. We went right when service started, so it was probably mostly Japanese guests at first and only moderately busy; however, it gradually became more crowded as more international guests arrived. I think going earlier is more comfortable. The sea bream and tuna sushi were outstanding, and there were also sashimi offerings separately—since we are a family that loves seafood, we really appreciated it. If I had to mention areas for improvement: There was dust under the beds in our Room. Our child playfully reached under the bed and came out covered in dust, which was disappointing. Also (though this may be unavoidable due to the layout), the pool is not connected directly to the large public bath area; you have to move through indoor corridors within the building. After using the pool you need to change clothes before heading to the public bath area, which felt inconvenient—especially for families with children who likely want to bathe after swimming. Because coin laundry is free (and perhaps due to seasonal demand), there can be long waits. A notice said that if someone’s laundry cycle has finished, other guests may move it into a basket—but guests who hadn’t read it seemed startled that someone had moved their items without permission. I understood because I saw the notice myself, but it still didn’t feel great; I wondered if there might be another solution. Since it’s summer and free of charge—and everyone wants to use it—it may simply be inevitable. Overall, we were very satisfied. The value for money was so good that it almost made me wonder if everything was really okay! Thank you very much!

I visit Asahikawa several times for personal reasons, and I stay at this Hotel each time. The Onsen is excellent, with silky, smooth water that leaves my skin feeling soft. I also use the relaxation services every time—the body scrub and oil massage are high quality and very satisfying. This time I wanted a non-smoking Room, but only a smoking Room was available for Reservation. On top of that, the building next door was being demolished, so it was quite noisy from around 8 a.m. every morning, which was a bit disappointing. Still, the location is great and the staff service was very good, so I had a pleasant stay. Thank you very much.

The building itself felt a bit old, and I noticed a slight odor inside, but the Onsen and seafood were truly outstanding. Since the large public bath alternates between men and women, I only used one side, but it was spacious and comfortable. The water left my skin smooth and moisturized—it felt amazing. There wasn’t a place inside the tub to sit (with about half your body out), so I couldn’t soak for too long, but the open-air bath had a great atmosphere and I could relax without worrying about others. Our Room came with a private open-air bath, and the tub was even larger than it looked in the photos—there was plenty of space for two people to stretch out comfortably. It might even fit around three people with ease. Best of all, it was free-flowing natural hot spring water, so fresh water kept pouring in continuously—it felt wonderfully luxurious and incredibly relaxing. The crab I’d been looking forward to was also delicious—I think it was my first time ever getting completely full from crab. I was very satisfied with the sashimi and the salmon at breakfast as well. Of course, the steak was also very juicy and tender... That said, it seems rice and miso soup at dinner were brought after we asked for them (I’m sorry—I must not have listened carefully because I was captivated by the beautiful crab right in front of me). By the time they arrived I was already quite full, so I wished I had requested them earlier. There were thoughtful touches throughout as well—like a footbath inside the property and self-serve coffee in the morning. Everyone at both the dining area and front desk greeted us with smiles and were very kind, so we felt comfortable throughout our stay; it ended up being a truly refreshing trip that helped us unwind. I would definitely like to stay again.

Thanks to your call in advance letting us know there would be road closures due to a festival, we were able to arrive before the roads were closed. As a result, we enjoyed the festival and the fireworks, making our stay truly memorable. The staff’s attentiveness was outstanding, and the parking valet service in particular exceeded our expectations by far. There are not many places where great service alone makes you want to stay again, but we would definitely love to return. We also recommended it to our family after we got home. Just one note: since I don’t often sleep on futons, I felt the mattress was thin and the pillow was low.

Having stayed at retreat Hotels all over the whole country, I found this Retreat Onko Chishin to be outstanding in every way. The Room, bath, meals and drinks, and hospitality all delivered a high level of satisfaction, making for a truly pleasant stay. This Hotel has been reborn through the renovation of an existing Hotel, and the quality of the renovation and overall atmosphere were excellent.

Except during the COVID period, I have stayed here almost every year before the rainy season. The Hotel may look a bit plain from the outside, but the staff are refreshingly pleasant and very welcoming (especially at breakfast, where they greet you with smiles and work efficiently), and the Room seems to have been renovated—it is very clean and feels fresh. There is also a large public bath; it’s on the small side, but for me this is a Hotel I’m extremely satisfied with. The only reason I deducted one star is simply as a hopeful suggestion: I would be happy if there were a way for more people to use the large public bath at once. It’s not really a complaint, but at night it was unsettling not knowing whether it was full until I actually went there. That’s truly my only point. Breakfast in particular is excellent: small portions of side dishes are neatly arranged in little bowls, beautifully presented and clearly well prepared—I can only admire it. Because it’s so satisfying just to look at, I don’t end up taking too much and overeating, which I think is wonderful. In any case, this is my favorite Hotel. I’d like to stay again next year.

Just as the Reviews said, every dish we had been looking forward to was truly delicious. We were impressed by the careful seasoning and attention to detail, even in the side dishes. The Facility felt historic, but everything—including the bath—was well maintained and very clean. We were looking for an Accommodation with a tatami Room so it would be comfortable for our one-year-old. We were a bit nervous that our child might touch the hanging scrolls or shoji screens, but our meals were served separately from other guests, and it was still very easy to spend time here even with a child. Above all, everyone at the Accommodation was warm and welcoming, which made our stay truly comfortable. We’re sorry for any trouble caused by our child, but we sincerely appreciated your kind support until the very end. We visited as a family to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthday, and they were extremely satisfied. It became a once-in-a-lifetime family memory. Thank you very much.

I booked this Accommodation for my parents, and they were very pleased. They loved how spacious and clean the Room was, and everything—from the bath and meals to the service—was excellent. We would be happy to stay again in the future.

We always stay here when traveling with three generations, and we truly appreciate your hospitality. (It also feels nostalgic because my father worked here back in the Kanpo days!) Since the renovation, it has become even more comfortable for children, and we made more wonderful memories again this time. As part of the summer vacation program, our kids were thrilled right after arrival with the cardboard maze and the guests-only soft-serve ice cream and ice pops! At dinner, there were also summer-only treats like chocolate bananas and shaved ice—like a fun festival. They were set up so they couldn’t be seen from our seats at first, so after the kids finished their meal and we told them about it, they happily went to get some. We really like that both breakfast and dinner are served at the table rather than buffet-style, so we can relax and enjoy our meal. The dishes used Yaizu sashimi and rice, and we could feel the care put into the food. And we were absolutely full!!! The Onsen water quality has been great for years, and my mother and daughter were able to relax together. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and had a welcome little visitor (a cicada)! The kids loved it (it was gone by morning). The staff at the front desk and shop were kind and helpful as well—this is a Hotel where we can feel safe and comfortable. If there were a Room that could accommodate six people, that would be perfect; from next time we will need to book two rooms. We would be very happy if there were an option where everyone could stay together. Thank you again for your continued support.

The meal, made with plenty of local ingredients, was satisfying in both quality and quantity. It paired very well with the local sake we received as a perk. The Room was flawless, including the open-air bath. The large public bath at the sister property across the road (seaside) was also excellent, but since it was rainy that day, it felt a bit inconvenient to use. The large public bath at SAZANA was also a little small, which was the only disappointment. The service was friendly and attentive, and we were truly able to relax. During a weekend of heavy rain brought by the autumnal rain front, I was finally able to stay at a long-established Accommodation in Unazuki Onsen. I could feel the president’s and proprietress’s heartfelt hospitality in every detail. Soaking in the open-air bath while watching the swift flow of the Kurobe River, enjoying dishes that highlighted seasonal ingredients and beautiful tableware, and experiencing excellent service—all were wonderful. At the Selene Museum of Art, I was able to view magnificent paintings of Kurobe Gorge while overlaying them with the scenery from the trolley train window. It truly healed my body and mind from within, so I would love to return to experience again this Onsen culture that blends wellness and tea ceremony.

We were very satisfied to stay in a lovely Room at this price and enjoy a luxurious dinner (assorted sashimi, sukiyaki, etc.). It would be perfect if there were an elevator. The view was wonderful, and we were told you can also see a beautiful sunset on a clear day. We were also impressed by the warm, efficient staff who never made us feel the Accommodation was aging. The large public bath with a great view was comfortable, and the front lobby had some items slightly cheaper than the souvenir shop, so we got good deals. Choosing the Deluxe Twin Room was absolutely the right decision. If we stay on Shodoshima again, this is our only choice.

Every year, our family of six goes on a trip, and this time we visited Nagato Yumoto Onsen, Hagi, and Tsuwano. On the first night, we stayed at Gyokusenkaku. The staff were very kind, the value for money was excellent, and the food was great. Even though many places now ask guests to do things themselves (like laying out futons), we really appreciated that they prepared our futons for us. As a treat for myself, I also enjoyed a massage—something that fewer places offer these days. The Onsen bath water was gentle and soft on the skin, and we were very satisfied.

I stayed here on a solo trip. Everyone at the Accommodation was incredibly kind and helpful! The meals at the Accommodation were beautifully presented and delicious—I was very satisfied. I was surprised that the drinks in the Room were free! I enjoyed having alcohol on the terrace to cool off in the evening, and drinking oolong tea after a bath, haha. In the morning, I made drip coffee using hot water from the water dispenser and spent my time feeling refreshed. The Room was also very clean, and the in-room bath was an Onsen. There wasn’t any mold at all in the bathroom. The grout was spotless, the faucets were shiny, and even the drain was clean. The large public bath was great too—the design is lovely. This time my goal for the next day was visiting shrines, so I went to Ishigami-san, Hikodaki Daimyojin, and Isawa Shrine. They kindly explained nearby roads and how to get around, which helped a lot. What’s more, even after I had checked out, they actually ran after me just to give me a taxi company phone number. Thanks to that, I could take a taxi when traveling from Hikodaki Daimyojin to Isawa Shrine and arrived an hour earlier! They also recommended a very kind taxi company, so the driver told me what preparations I needed for visiting Isawa Shrine as well—and I made it up safely! It turned into such a wonderful trip! I’d definitely love to stay again!
