    A Convenient, Comfortable Hotel

    This Hotel is conveniently located at a reasonable distance from the station, with well-balanced Facilities and size. All the staff were friendly and welcoming with smiles, even while busy. Breakfast was also good.

    Excellent customer service.

    This was our first stay as a group of four. We consider ourselves experienced travelers and usually stay in suites (70 m² or larger), but the largest Room at UNWIND Hotel & Bar is 40 m². Even so, it didn’t feel small thanks to the excellent service, and the Hotel itself had a wonderful atmosphere. We were especially impressed by how kind and helpful the young staff were. It’s a Hotel we would love to stay at again when we visit Otaru.

    It was an Accommodation with a great atmosphere.

    Staying at classic hotels is my hobby, so I decided to stay here on my way home from work. Since I live in Yokohama, it had a similar atmosphere to another port city. The breakfast was delicious as well.

    Our bar features a bartender who creates original cocktails.

    I think this Hotel’s bar is excellent. I enjoyed their original cocktails, thoughtfully crafted to evoke the character of Otaru. However, there were issues with the plumbing in Room 311 where I stayed. The toilet had an unpleasant odor coming up from the sewage system. The shower water temperature was unstable, suddenly turning hot or cold even though I did not adjust or move the shower head.

    A truly wonderful Hotel.

    This Hotel was recommended to me by ChatGPT, which understands my preferences and personality, and I was extremely satisfied with the result. Not only were the building and interior design wonderful and stylish, but the staff were also very kind and pleasant. Breakfast was served in such a beautiful space that it took my breath away, and everything was delicious—especially the scones, which were outstanding. As this trip was for my husband’s birthday, we used the anniversary Plan. They prepared non-alcoholic champagne and a very tasty cake, making it a lovely surprise. Neither of us drinks alcohol, but if we had more time, we would have liked to visit the bar as well. Perhaps because it was a weekday in May, there were many foreign visitors both in town and among the guests. Since it rained, being able to borrow the coin laundry facilities and a shoe dryer was incredibly helpful. If I had to mention one thing, it would be helpful if there were guidance on how many minutes are needed for roughly how much laundry. (At 100 yen for 25 minutes, I suspect even one T-shirt might not fully dry...) I initially thought the price was per person but then realized it covered two people as well—which surprised me even more. There’s nowhere else where you can get this level of quality and satisfaction at this price! Thank you for such a wonderful day.

    It was an experience that truly let me feel the history.

    Because this Hotel is operated in a renovated historic building, we could feel its history throughout both the exterior and interior. That said, it was still very comfortable and easy to stay in. The only disappointment was that the shower water pressure in the Room was not consistent. It is close to the sightseeing area and has parking, so I would like to stay here again when visiting Otaru.

    I would definitely like to stay here again.

    Because it was a weekday, I was able to stay for about JPY 11,000 including dinner and breakfast. The Room had high ceilings and felt very spacious, and the amenities and rental items were very well stocked, so I had a comfortable stay. The meals were truly delicious, and I would like to stay here again the next time I visit Hokkaido.

    The stained glass and other features are wonderful.

    The original stained glass and staircase have been preserved since the Hotel first opened, and the glow of the antique glass is truly stunning. Breakfast was also completely different from the buffet style at other hotels, and we enjoyed it very much—it was delicious.

    Casual and stylish, ...

    Casual and stylish, with a wonderful atmosphere and a concept that fits the city of Otaru. The room was also clean, and I was satisfied. What concerned me was that there was a large earthquake during my stay. Fortunately, there was no major impact, but the news advised people to avoid using elevators; however, the elevator here was operating as usual. On the other hand, the emergency staircase was partially blocked by housekeeping items such as sheets, so I had to avoid them while going down. This made me question their awareness of safety. I hope they will further improve their hospitality and safety management going forward.

    Enjoy a luxurious and special Otaru stay in a historic building.

    Choosing a Hotel in Otaru—like Hakodate, a city without major chain city Hotels—took some thought. I stayed here last May after carefully reading IKYU Reviews, and the experience was so good that I returned this time. This building was originally an annex of the former Ecchuya Hotel, which opened around 1930. It has a classic Art Deco style, and you can feel the attention to detail in the interior structure and decorations throughout—it creates a wonderful atmosphere. The Room has been beautifully renovated. The bath and toilet are separate, and while it isn’t especially large, it’s very practical and comfortable. There is a small monitor connected to Apple TV rather than the large TVs common in many modern Hotels, which surprised me at first—but since I never watch TV at home anyway, it wasn’t an issue. I imagine many guests feel the same these days. From 5:00 PM, you can enjoy complimentary wine at the bar, including New World selections such as Chile as well as local Hokkaido wines. Breakfast was also excellent—thoughtfully prepared using local ingredients. Finally, a note about the staff at reception, breakfast, and the bar. Many are young (including some university student part-timers), but their relaxed and natural hospitality felt very pleasant. The polished “always-on” professionalism of long-established city Hotels is great too, but for a small boutique Hotel like this, this style feels just right. I love Otaru as a town, and with its convenient location close to everything, I look forward to staying here again on my next visit.

    It’s amazing that you can enjoy local wines and more!

    Last December, I only came for a meal. It’s such a wonderful Hotel that I wanted to stay, so I booked with meals included. The Room was also lovely, and since you can stay overnight for the price of the meal, I’d like to use it again!

    A stylish and chic hotel

    This is a stylish, chic hotel. I was delighted to find wonderful coffee and tea packets provided in the room. Breakfast is served in a high-tea style, but on a Multiple Night Stay you may start craving Japanese food. I would be happier if there were a few more options to choose from. It’s within walking distance from Otaru Station and convenient for getting anywhere. There is complimentary wine service from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, and I ended up drinking too much.

    It was excellent.

    The location was great, the service was excellent, and the value for money was incredible—absolutely amazing! The hotel had a chic atmosphere throughout; everything was spotless, stylish, and beautiful. The Room had high ceilings and felt wonderfully spacious. We enjoyed the bar during happy hour with complimentary drinks as well as with paid cocktails. The finishing parfait is a must! The breakfast scones were as good as those from a specialty shop, and the smoothies were also delicious. I’m running out of words to describe it all, but even the amenities were fantastic. We had a very comfortable and satisfying stay. Thank you!

    Recommended for wine lovers.

    I stayed here during a trip to Otaru and Sapporo. The location is within walking distance from the station. It’s also just a short walk to the Otaru Canal. I would like to stay at this Hotel again. If I had to mention one thing, breakfast starts at 7:30, and since I wanted to get an early start, I wish it were one hour earlier.

    A charming classic Hotel

    This Hotel, renovated from a historic foreigner-exclusive Hotel, provided a very pleasant stay. It was nice that the toilet was separate from the bath, but there was no sink in the toilet. To wash hands, I had to go through the Room and open three doors to reach the bathroom, which felt unhygienic. The lighting was dim; a reading lamp would have been helpful. There was no clock—perhaps intentionally—but I found it inconvenient. There were also no small shelves or desks for placing items, which made it less convenient for me personally. This is not a Hotel suitable for work purposes. Breakfast in high tea style brought excitement early in the morning! The ham from Yoichi Wine Pork was excellent as well. Drinks were free-flowing with Lupicia tea available, and scones could be refilled too!

    The worst experience! Don't be misled by social media.

    The hotel operates on a cashless system, requiring credit card registration at check-in. All payments within the hotel, including the bar, are charged to the registered credit card. As someone who prefers using cash, I felt uneasy and concerned about potential misuse or errors. Although my room fee was prepaid by credit card, I was puzzled as to why another registration was necessary. The staff did not explain the reason unless asked and simply requested "Please register your credit card." After checking in, I entered my room only to find it extremely small—there wasn’t even enough space to open a suitcase. There were visible stains on the door indicating poor cleaning standards, and the TV was as small as a tablet. For this price point, staying here does not feel worth it. The most unacceptable issue for me was with the shower. While other inconveniences could be overlooked, this is something future guests should be warned about: The shower temperature is scalding hot when first turned on after being stopped—even after adjusting it beforehand. It’s dangerously hot; I slipped in shock while trying to avoid it and ended up with bruises on my back, hips, and elbows. It could have been worse if I had hit my head. Please take caution if you choose to stay here—I personally will never return again.

    The staff were kind ...

    The staff were kind and made my stay very pleasant. Although I didn’t know the hotel restaurant was closed on weekdays and asked suddenly, they quickly found and recommended a great restaurant, which was delicious and satisfying. The room had high ceilings and felt more spacious than expected. The living area, bathroom, and toilet were completely separate, allowing for comfortable use without any concern. I stayed for two nights, but the towels dried quickly, so I didn’t feel the need to exchange them. Any missing amenities could be replenished at the front desk, so I didn’t request bed-making during my stay and could leave my belongings spread out while going out. Even wet coats from the snow dried quickly, which was very helpful. My shoes were quite wet as well but dried thoroughly using a dryer provided by the hotel. Borrowed umbrellas also meant there was no need to bring them back to the room, keeping the floor dry as well. Although space is limited, it would have been nice if there were more chairs or sofas in the lobby for seating. It was such a wonderful hotel that I’d love to create another opportunity to stay here again!

    Good ambiance

    The historic architecture with beautiful lighting was stunning. The staff were approachable and kind. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals in the morning and evening, as well as the wine bar. The atmosphere was wonderful, allowing for a relaxing stay. It was my first time in Otaru, but it has become one of my favorite cities.

    We had a wonderful time.

    I chose a Hotel that seemed comfortable and offered enjoyable meals for a trip with my elderly parents. As expected, the Room was spacious and relaxing, the meals were very delicious, and the service was excellent. It was a bit unfortunate that the breakfast portions were slightly large, and we couldn't finish them. One issue was that the Room's TV was a projector, which my father couldn't operate on his own. Additionally, while the separate bathroom was nice, it would have been more convenient if there were a chair and a bath bucket provided.

    First Trip to Otaru

    I stayed here for my first trip to Otaru. The staff kindly stored my luggage before check-in, and the service from the gentleman at the front desk was excellent. However, I was disappointed with the main dish of Hokkaido beef steak at dinner, as it was very tough and difficult to cut even with a knife. There were also chunks of fat that I couldn't eat and had to leave behind. Overall, the portion sizes felt small. On the other hand, breakfast had good portions, looked appealing, and tasted delicious. It’s unfortunate because I had high expectations for dinner as well.

    The Room had a damp,...

    The Room had a damp, musty smell similar to wet laundry from the moment I entered, and the air conditioner also emitted a distinct damp odor, which caused me to feel unwell by midnight. The cleanliness of the Room was disappointing as well. Although the Room environment was unsatisfactory, the staff's service and high-tea-style breakfast were excellent.

    Convenient for sightseeing

    Thank you for your hospitality the other day. It was a cold day, and we were able to check in immediately after arriving at Otaru Station. The front desk staff welcomed us warmly, and we appreciated the refreshing welcome drink of lemonade. The Room was compact but featured separate toilet and bath facilities, offering a clean and comfortable space. We enjoyed delicious wine during the free drinks at the bar before dinner in the evening, and breakfast served in high tea style accommodated both of our allergies, allowing us to dine safely and enjoyably. With its proximity to the canal and being right in front of an art village, this Hotel is perfect for sightseeing. Next time, we hope to try dinner as well—it has become our go-to Hotel when staying in Otaru. Thank you very much!

    A very stylish and charming Hotel

    It is about a 10-minute walk from Otaru Station, with many convenience stores and tourist spots nearby, making the location very convenient. The Hotel has a stunning design with a solid and elegant structure. The Room was spacious, and it was nice that the toilet and unit bath were separated by doors. However, perhaps due to the age of the building, it tended to be dry inside, there were occasional issues like water drainage in the bathroom reversing, and sounds from neighboring rooms were quite noticeable. Also, the TV was extremely small, which we found amusing! The high tea-style breakfast and free drink service in the evening had great ambiance and taste. Additionally, all staff members were friendly and kind, leaving an excellent impression overall.

    Luxury Love Hotel

    The title is the best possible outcome considered in the most respectful terms. The idea of renovating old buildings in Otaru, which lacks tourist resources for young people, is wonderful. The quality of stylish cafes, bars, and corridors is very good and probably appealing to those in their 20s who are willing to spend a little money for dates or Instagram-worthy moments. The food was relatively good, but the staff's response was consistently disappointing. Staff with numerous piercings spoke softly and were hard to hear; no one offered help with carrying luggage up the high entrance stairs; and when trying to present a surprise cake at the bar, being greeted with "Oh, you're the cake customer" was quite shocking. They were also uninformed about tourist information and didn't even know that it wasn't possible to visit Blue Cave during this season nor did they have any alternative suggestions. It was a high-quality love hotel recommended for Instagrammable couples.

    Free Hokkaido wine available

    The evening wine service was attractive, which is why I chose this place. It was so comfortable and relaxing that I extended my stay from one night to three. The Room is a bit small, but since I was out sightseeing during the day, it didn't bother me much. It's a bit of a distance from the station, but it's close to the canal and convenient for buying souvenirs and sightseeing. The lovely breakfast might get a bit repetitive if you have it every day. Next time, I want to try the game meat dishes for dinner. The aroma is pleasant, making it feel like I'm relaxing at home. I was grateful to use the beauty device and iron rental. Unfortunately, the foot massager was unavailable, which was disappointing. There are many young staff members, so the place is lively, and the hospitality was excellent, leaving me very satisfied. I will definitely visit again.
