    We were able to relax as a family.

    Our family of three stayed for one night. It was our first time staying in a renovated traditional house as a whole-house rental Accommodation, but we were interested because the Reviews were so positive. The Accommodation is a renovated old house, and we really enjoyed how the old and new elements blend together. The weather was great—not too hot—and we were impressed by the beautiful scenery and the well-equipped Facilities. We also loved the freedom of cooking our own dinner over charcoal. The slightly dim atmosphere inside, the cleanliness, and the clear, courteous explanations from the male staff member were much appreciated. This has added another place we’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Last-minute Reservation with Self Check-in

    Because I booked just two days in advance, only the No Meals Included Plan was available. However, I brought my own ingredients and was allowed to use the irori hearth, so I really enjoyed cooking and eating there. Everything was prepared so that starting the fire was easy. I also took my time in the open-air bath and was very satisfied. When I decided to make a Reservation, the No Meals Included option that had been available until the day before was already fully booked, which was disappointing at first. But there was a separate Plan called “No Meals Included (Self Check-in),” and I could book that instead. Since the self check-in plan is not shown prominently, some guests may give up on making a Reservation. It would be better to unify it under No Meals Included and explain it in a message during booking (as self check-in is standard for this type of Accommodation).

    Relax and refresh your mind

    We stayed with the No Meals Included plan. Unfortunately, we drove there feeling a bit anxious in an unseasonal typhoon. About 90 minutes from Hachioji—just the right distance for a drive. We planned to get off at Nirasaki IC and stop by Heidi’s Village, but the weather was unstable so we gave up. After having handmade soba and buying groceries and drinks, we headed straight to the Accommodation—and that was absolutely the right choice. It felt luxuriously spacious for just two people. The old traditional house has been beautifully renovated, perfectly blending a nostalgic atmosphere that appeals to Japanese sensibilities with modern amenities that make daily life comfortable. We had requested self-service, so there was no staff greeting; we checked in on a tablet. The input process was a bit of a hassle. By the time we arrived, the rain and wind had calmed down, so we stretched out on the daybed on the veranda and toasted with beer right away. Ice-cold mugs were waiting for us. A luxurious time doing nothing while looking out at lush green mountains. Quiet music, chirping fledgling swallows just starting to fly, and the distant sound of a river. As it got a little chilly, we headed straight to the open-air bath. The hinoki cypress open-air bath is large—spacious enough for about four people comfortably. Then more relaxing time again. At night, we rented an irori hearth and toasted with wine while enjoying ingredients grilled over charcoal as snacks. Everything was well prepared, so starting the fire was easy too. Perhaps because of the slightly higher elevation it got cold at night, but it stayed warm thanks to a stove like a fireplace heater. There was also fire pit setup available in the garden. Then we enjoyed karaoke in a hidden spot and went to bed after getting pleasantly tipsy. The next day as well, we stayed until just before checkout and relaxed on the veranda again. Everything was thoroughly cleaned—absolutely flawless. For us after being worn out by city life, it was truly 20 hours that refreshed our minds completely. Our only mistake was forgetting to buy breakfast. We will definitely be back; next time we'd like to choose a plan with meals included and enjoy local cuisine as well.

    An Accommodation with an Irori Hearth and a Karaoke Barn—Perfect for Couples or Groups

    My spouse and I, in our 50s, stayed for one night with No Meals Included. The traditional, large farmhouse-style kominka immediately raised our expectations from the moment we arrived. The Room was spacious, and the irori hearth and the lush mountain greenery seen through the windows were wonderful—yet the water fixtures and other living amenities were modern and very comfortable. The open-air bath made from a large hinoki wooden tub felt wonderfully spacious, and we loved being able to use it anytime we wanted. After arriving, we relaxed on the engawa veranda with a beer while enjoying the view. In the evening, we bought local ingredients from Yamanashi and enjoyed an irori barbecue. After that, we had a great time together with wine in hand at a hidden karaoke room inside a detached kura storehouse. In the morning, we had breakfast using the barbecue setup on the engawa veranda—it was truly a luxurious stay. On arrival, staff kindly explained how to use each Facility, and after that it was completely private. We could relax without any worries. With three bedrooms available, we’d love to return next time with another couple of friends.

    Stay in a Traditional Japanese House (No Meals Included) with an Irori BBQ and an Open-Air Bath

    My schedule suddenly opened up, so I stayed at this Accommodation. I was told we could use the irori hearth, so we picked up ingredients at Himawari Market in Hokuto City and enjoyed a BBQ (oil, salt, and pepper were provided). Although it was February and quite cold, the temperature of the open-air bath was perfect—I could have stayed in forever. On top of that, there’s an ice cream corner in the changing room, which is great for cooling down. I was a little surprised there was no TV, but they have an excellent selection of analog records, so I relaxed and enjoyed some nostalgic music. There’s also a karaoke room renovated from a kura storehouse—one night wasn’t nearly enough. What impressed me most was the starry sky. I was amazed to see such a beautiful sky so close to the Kanto area. There are many Accommodations renovated from old houses, but this one is the real thing—you can truly feel its history. At the same time, essentials like plumbing and heating are properly maintained, so it’s very comfortable. It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. The staff were also excellent, and next time I’d love to visit with a meal-included Plan.

    A Summer Stay in a Traditional Japanese House with Fireflies and Sunflowers

    In mid-July, my spouse and I stayed at "Loof Kyoya." We enjoyed a relaxing and extraordinary experience in a traditional Japanese house rented out entirely. Upon arrival, we immediately took a break on the veranda. The soothing sounds of the river and wind chimes helped us forget the hustle and bustle of city life. At night, we were lucky to see fireflies gently dancing around, creating an enchanting atmosphere that added to our summer memories. The next day, we visited the sunflower fields in Akeno. The sight of sunflowers blooming proudly under the blue sky was truly uplifting. The accommodation features an irori (traditional hearth) and a cypress open-air bath, offering warmth reminiscent of old-fashioned living. Listening to nature's sounds, gathering around the fire for conversations, and feeling time flow slowly made it such a special place. Each season likely brings its own unique charm here; I hope to return during autumn for the vibrant foliage next time. I highly recommend this serene retreat for anyone seeking peace and connection with nature!

    It was a very lovely accommodation. I would love to stay again.

    Attracted by the charm of renting an entire traditional Japanese house, I stayed at this accommodation. It was a beautiful accommodation over 100 years old. The water facilities were completely renovated, allowing for a comfortable stay. Meals were served as robatayaki around an irori hearth and were absolutely delicious. The staff were very pleasant, making this accommodation perfect in every way. At night, fireflies could be seen flying near the small stream beside the accommodation. Surrounded only by the sound of the babbling brook, it was a truly wonderful experience. This is an accommodation I would love to stay at again and highly recommend!

    Relax and unwind

    After the autumn leaves have fallen, when there are no fireflies flying, sunflowers in full bloom, or fruit to harvest, I visited the Stays of Ruufu for a little escape. Even though it's a time when there's nothing, the satoyama, tranquility, clear air, and pure water are there, and at night you can bathe in a sky full of stars, making me feel that this time of nothingness is rather valuable. Of course, I fully enjoyed the spacious old folk house, irori cuisine, the cypress open-air bath, and the hospitality of the staff, so it's not that there's nothing at all. Swaying by the fireplace and bonfire, it was a two-day stay that filled my heart with energy until my next visit. For future guests, I highly recommend arriving at 3 PM or staying for a Multiple Night Stay to make the most of your time, and with that, I conclude my Review.

    The view from the bath is...

    The property I stayed at this time was truly wonderful! First, the open-air bath was amazing, offering a sense of openness that made me feel one with nature. The view while soaking in the hot water was breathtaking, and I was moved by the location. At night, a sky full of stars spread out, offering a different atmosphere from the bright scenery during the day, which was also charming. The warmth and the fresh air outside matched perfectly, and I ended up staying longer than I intended. The atmosphere inside the property was also very calm, providing a relaxing space. The room was clean and spacious enough to spend time comfortably, which was a high point. Additionally, the staff's response was very courteous, and their warm hospitality was impressive. I felt their meticulous attention to detail, which enhanced the comfort of the stay. Overall, it was a property that healed both body and mind, making it a perfect place to forget the fatigue of daily life. I would definitely like to revisit if I have the chance, and it was a property I would recommend to friends. I definitely want to go again.

    This is the second time.

    The comfort from our previous visit was unforgettable, so we visited for the second time with our family of six. Even the kids, who usually only look at their iPads, spent their time as they pleased and seemed genuinely happy, which truly filled our hearts. We shouted "Yoo-hoo" towards the mountains to hear the echo, sang karaoke, roasted marshmallows over the campfire, and took multiple baths—it was really fun! For dinner, we felt sorry for having so much leftover last time, so we consulted in advance and they kindly excluded the portions for elementary school kids, which was helpful. The fish grilled over charcoal was so delicious that we ate it from head to tail. Even the child who disliked fish and never ate it reached out for it themselves and said it was delicious! Thanks to Ruufu, we might overcome our dislike of fish (laughs). We are a Western-style breakfast family, so maybe that's why, but I think the breakfast could be slightly improved. The lightly pickled paprika? It didn't quite suit our taste. How about toasting local bread or rolls in the toaster? We'd like to have bacon and eggs instead of salmon. We plan to visit again next year. Thank you very much.
