I think it’s a good Hotel, but…
I made a Reservation because the location was convenient, breakfast and dinner were included, there was a stargazing night tour, and even though it was a weekend I felt the price was reasonable. (Unfortunately, the night tour was canceled due to bad weather.) The Facility felt old, but it seemed to be kept clean. However, when I entered my Room and opened a drawer, I found what appeared to be used men’s underwear and socks, other clothing, a guidebook, medicine, and other items that seemed to have been left behind by previous guests. It made me very uncomfortable, so I contacted the front desk immediately, but no one came. When I called again and they finally collected the items, they only bowed briefly and hurried out of the Room. During my stay I did not see any Japanese staff at the front desk or restaurant or anywhere in the Hotel. Perhaps due to understaffing, even at the shop there was no one at the register and you had to call by phone for assistance. The staff seemed to be doing their best, but at times I wasn’t sure they understood what I was saying, which left me feeling uneasy throughout my stay.

Personally, I felt the stay was not worth the price.

I didn’t receive any response.
As a wheelchair user, I sent a message through the site at the time of my Reservation asking you to contact me in advance because I had some questions, but I never heard back before my stay. When I arrived, there were almost no issues using a wheelchair, but the Facility felt old, and the nearby walking paths did not seem well maintained. I noticed that many of the staff appeared to be foreigners, but they were no different from Japanese staff and I did not feel there was any problem. However, since I did not meet a single Japanese staff member during my stay, I wondered if that might be why no one contacted me beforehand. The Room was spacious; although old, it had a sense of elegance, and overall it was a Hotel I was generally satisfied with.

It’s fine for a winter sports stay, but otherwise it feels a bit underwhelming.
Since it’s in the Kurumayama Highlands, I went wondering what it would be like, and… 1. First, the location is hard to find (when I used the address in my navigation system, it pointed to the wrong spot, so I ended up relying on signs. If it’s your first time, you should check the location with Google Earth or similar). 2. I was surprised at check-in that all the staff were foreigners (maybe from around Country I?). 3. The corridor to the Room was ridiculously long… but that’s common with this kind of Facility, so it can’t really be helped. 4. The Room is fairly clean and tidy, but you can’t hide its age (fine if you don’t mind). 5. The vending machines and laundry prices are doubled—unbelievable even for Hotel pricing (more like “mountain pricing”?). 6. The bath… there is an open-air bath with a full view of Mt. Tateshina, but otherwise nothing special. 7. Breakfast is a typical buffet style—just average. 8. At checkout they almost charged me for a fee I didn’t recognize (“something highball”?). When I firmly insisted I hadn’t ordered it, they rewrote the bill and removed it, so that was fine. *Even if it’s a small amount (a few hundred yen), make sure to say clearly that you don’t know about it and didn’t order it if you see an unclear charge. This place felt somewhat loosely run in a “foreigner vibe” way… Conclusion: This Accommodation is a bit questionable for staying overnight. In winter there may be an advantage since it connects directly to Kurumayama Ski Resort, though.

The staff’s response raised doubts about the Hotel’s overall quality.
Due to the unfortunate weather, we couldn’t enjoy the spectacular view from the Hotel. Still, we were looking forward to making memories on this trip, as well as enjoying the meals and the Onsen. This trip also included a family birthday, so in advance we asked the Hotel, “We would be happy with just a few congratulatory words.” However, from check-in onward, the staff response was extremely poor and lacked even the minimum expected of hotel professionals. I understand they seem short-staffed and busy, but I was left standing at the front desk with nothing to do and no one attending to me—without even a “Welcome.” That was shocking. At dinner, I ordered an all-you-can-drink plan and went to pour beer myself. It seemed no one had checked how much was left in the keg; as soon as I pulled the lever, foam burst out and stained my clothes and shoes. Even then, it was unclear where any staff were. No one noticed that I had gotten wet or showed any consideration despite seeing what happened. They also took time replacing the keg; just like at check-in, I was left standing there waiting aimlessly, and it did not feel like staying at a Hotel at all. As for our Room, although we made a Reservation for two people, two extra beds (for up to four guests) were left set up in the Room. It felt like we had been put into a storage space. I understand that being short-staffed or having language barriers may be unavoidable at times—but shouldn’t there be some effort to compensate for that by having staff nearby? There appeared to be someone acting like a trainer or supervisor, but even that person did not seem aware of basic service standards. We are not using our rare time off just so others can practice on us. At minimum, I want them to learn basic service skills and work with professional awareness. I strongly hope you will reconsider your approach as a Hotel. Needless to say, there were no congratulatory words for my family member’s birthday. I understand you note in advance that “we may not be able to accommodate all requests,” but we were not asking for cake or flowers—just simple words. If a service business such as a Hotel cannot offer even that because it is “busy” or “short-staffed,” then all I can say is that I chose wrong—and it is deeply disappointing.

Bath hours are…
My family stayed in a Twin Room + Japanese-style room for a hike up Mt. Tateshina the next morning. We arrived just before 11:00 PM, and to our surprise the large public bath was only open until 11:00 PM. We used it the next morning, but were further disappointed to learn that the sauna is not turned on in the morning and cannot be used. I would have understood if this had been clearly stated before making a Reservation, but as of April 2026 it was not mentioned. Other than that, the view from the open-air bath was amazing, and our Room was reasonably spacious and clean. The breakfast was solid for the price and very satisfying. There was even a soft-serve ice cream machine. All staff we met—at reception, in the breakfast area, and housekeeping—were foreigners (probably from India or Nepal). Everyone spoke fluent Japanese with no issues at all, and their smiles were wonderful. On the other hand, every guest we saw seemed to be Japanese (even though tourist spots are usually full of international visitors these days), which felt oddly unusual.

Inbound tourism
I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay on Friday and Saturday. I arrived late on Friday. There were many inbound guests. They were noisy and had poor manners. What I disliked most was a speakerphone call in the large public bath changing area. I left the bath quickly. On Saturday, those guests were gone, and after breakfast it was completely quiet. I could relax in the bath, enjoy my meal in peace, and was satisfied. It really made me realize that, for better or worse, how enjoyable a trip is can change drastically depending on other guests.

I was able to stay a...
I was able to stay at a good price. Overall, the property feels a bit worn, but it was cleaned and hygienic. It felt appropriate for the price. However, it was unacceptable that the Room air-conditioning controller was broken and I couldn’t adjust the temperature. Since the heating was on, it may have been only an issue with the controller, but I would have liked this to be explained at check-in. Also, when I took a cup from a bag labeled “sanitized” by the sink, there was water pooled inside. It made me wonder whether it had really been sanitized or just washed. If I’m mistaken, I apologize.

We were able to relax and spend quality time together as a family.
We stayed here on a ski trip to Kurumayama. There was no snow, so driving was not a problem. We arrived around noon and asked the front desk where we could change into our ski wear, and they kindly showed us. After that, we used the Shuttle Service to and from the ski resort. It was disappointing that a Reservation was required for the bus and that it only ran about once an hour, so we were told we needed to book in advance. We checked in in the evening, and our Room was a bit far away, but it was spacious and nice once we got inside. However, there were not enough hangers and the closet was small, so it was hard to find space to hang our ski wear (it was helpful that they added more hangers when we asked at the front desk). The meals were buffet-style, and even though it’s in the mountains there was sashimi; it was crowded but items were replenished quickly, so we enjoyed it. We went as a family and had a great time overall.

The views and the meals are outstanding.
The Hotel is clean, and since there is only one elevator, the wait can be a bit inconvenient, but the breakfast and dinner buffets are unquestionably delicious. The service at the front desk and restaurant was polite and very good. The amenities, towel changes, and hair dryer were also faultless. It seems the Room may have previously allowed smoking, and at night I noticed a lingering cigarette smell. It didn’t affect my throat, but I would at least like to see the wallpaper replaced. The wooden lockers in the bath area were quite worn; it may be a low priority, but if they are kept there, cleaning them up would make it feel less disappointing. In the parking lot, some cars were parked carelessly and it was hard to find a space, so I’d like to ask that the parking lines be repainted as well. Other than that, it’s a flawless five stars.

Enjoy cross-cultural communication!
Non-Japanese speakers might enjoy communicating here. Since I only speak Japanese, I had fun communicating with the foreign staff and decided to study more before my next visit (if there is one). While it could be considered "you get what you pay for" if it's inexpensive, the view from the bath was the most memorable part!

Do not engage in power harassment in front of guests.
Most of the staff are foreigners, and they are polite, so I didn't feel much inconvenience. However, there was an issue with a middle-aged male staff member at the reception. He displayed rude behavior and made inappropriate remarks towards the foreign staff in front of guests. Such actions are unacceptable, especially in this day and age. If it weren't for him, everything would have been perfect.

Great view, but everything else is disappointing!
Most of the operations are handled by Asian staff, but there was one Japanese person at the front desk who was dressed sloppily without properly tying their tie, which was disappointing. The route to the Room was far, and the Room cleaning was inadequate with hair and insects in the bathroom and dirty coffee cups, making it feel like staying at a third-rate Asian Hotel—very disappointing! The restaurant had a limited selection of dishes, none of which were tasty. I don't think I will return.

Please improve significantly.
I stayed for one night. It was distressing to find multiple large black insects in the room. While it might be unavoidable given the location in the mountains, it was still unpleasant. Additionally, I was dissatisfied that there was no cleaning or replacement of portions for the coffee maker that had been sprayed with insecticide. Upon entering the room, there were stains left on the table, and there were also undesirable marks on both the carpet and tatami mats. While I understand that the facility is old, I hope improvements can be made in terms of cleaning and pest control. It may have been off-season, but it felt quite desolate. There were no vending machines or café spaces to purchase drinks nearby. To get coffee or similar items outside of shop hours required a 30-minute walk to Venus Line. Access would be challenging without a private car. I used to trust IKYU.com for recommending reliable accommodations, but this experience has changed my perspective. The view of autumn foliage from the lobby overlooking mountain ranges was stunning. I will refrain from adding images.

Hotel with a Great View
I received a phone call the day before, asking me to cancel through IKYU, but I explained that I had not made any cancellation. I stayed for one night to attend Alon France 2025. Previously, I had stayed at Prominent. Since I arrived close to 8 PM, the parking lot was full, and it was difficult as I had to back out due to no circulation route. The Facility is old but the guest room was spacious enough for a comfortable stay. As it was nighttime, I couldn't see the view from the window; however, near checkout time, the view opened up in front of me—it was beautiful. Breakfast didn’t feature many local products but offered a wide variety of dishes that were too many for me to try all of them—I was satisfied overall. If there’s another opportunity, I'd be happy to visit again!

Great view, friendly staff, but cleanliness needs improvement.
The view of Mt. Yatsugatake from the bath and lounge is stunning. The stargazing event was also enjoyable. The buffet was average, but it had a good variety of sweets and options suitable for all age groups. However, as others have mentioned, the Room cleaning is unacceptable. While the foreign staff are friendly and responsive when asked, communication seems to be an issue as they often don't come promptly when called. There were insects in the Room, dead bugs in corners, and even a dirty toilet seat—something I’ve never experienced before. It seems like there’s a shortage of staff, but better training for the cleaning team might be necessary.

Enjoy highland hiking even without a car.
The shuttle service from the station was incredibly helpful for us as train travelers. The driver was experienced with the mountain roads and made us feel very safe while chatting along the way. We were also provided shuttle service to and from our highland hiking trip the next day, which was essential in an area with limited public bus options—this truly enhanced our experience. The buffet-style meals exceeded our expectations, offering a wide variety of delicious options for both dinner and breakfast! The view of the mountains from the bath was stunning, and as a fan of train travel, I would love to stay here again. While many staff members were from overseas and there were some minor service concerns, it didn’t bother me since my main purpose was hiking. I approached it as if staying at an international hotel, so there were no issues at all (laughs). By avoiding peak seasons, we enjoyed a great room, panoramic bath views, excellent meals, and had an overall wonderful trip. Thank you very much to everyone who took care of us!

The location and view are excellent.
A standard hotel, but there were no Japanese staff, and it seemed prone to issues. The guest checking in before us was upset because the Room hadn't been cleaned and requested a Room change. When we checked in, we were given a key for Room 21◯× on the first floor with meals also on the first floor. On our way to the Room, we realized that our IKYU Reservation was for the top floor of Building S with French cuisine for meals. We went back to complain about being assigned a different Room than reserved. The staff seemed unsure and had to consult their supervisor before finally switching us to our reserved Room. During dinner, there appeared to be trouble at a neighboring table as well; the chef rushed over to reception for some discussion. Additionally, although our course meal started promptly after arrival, another table that arrived earlier still hadn’t received their food while ours was already being served—this led to whispers among guests and left an unpleasant impression. The next morning at breakfast, when presenting our breakfast voucher at the designated area as instructed by staff (who appeared foreign), they hesitated but eventually seated us at a table where buffet-style dining was offered instead of set meals as expected from our Reservation details—though initially confusingly accepted until later interrupted mid-meal by another foreign manager clarifying mistaken seating arrangements altogether afterward awkwardly apologizing yet leaving things unresolved ultimately disappointing overall experience falling short compared against typical standards associated under IKYU.com Hotels expectations!

Go for it, Takahara Hotel!
I stayed at the Hotel located deep in the Pension Village of Kurumayama Kogen for the first time. The sunrise over Mount Tateshina, viewed from the open-air bath in the morning, was breathtaking and made me instinctively put my hands together in gratitude. It was a relaxing experience overall. However, there were some surprises: a long line at check-in and a delay of over 20 minutes for dinner that was scheduled to start at 5:30 PM. The lack of staff was noticeable.

Night Tour
The night tour was excellent with favorable weather and clear explanations from the guide. However, it was dark underfoot with water along the way, and prior notice would have allowed us to prepare items like flashlights, which was the only disappointment. The Hotel counter had only one foreign staff member, and the restaurant was small with long lines—improvement is necessary. There were few signs leading to the Hotel, making it hard to find at night.

Waiting Time
Dinner and breakfast scheduling seemed poorly managed, as there was a long wait despite having a designated time, which ruined the dining experience. The front desk was also overcrowded with long waiting times; better planning during peak seasons would be appreciated.

It has become a disappointing Hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for the first time in about 10 years. Hoping to escape the heat of Tokyo and relax at a highland hotel, I was met with some challenges... The front desk and restaurant were mostly staffed by foreign employees who, while seemingly earnest, appeared inexperienced or inadequately trained. Issues were not communicated or resolved effectively, leading to repeated frustrations of "there's no point in saying anything." For dinner, I chose French cuisine. However, the steak was dry and unappetizing—leaving me wondering how such a dish could be served. Was it due to budget constraints using low-quality ingredients? Or perhaps an issue with the chef's taste? It was a shocking dining experience. Most other guests around me also left their French dishes uneaten. In hindsight, opting for the buffet with curry like group travelers might have been cheaper and less stressful. At checkout, I faced payment issues that kept me waiting for over 30 minutes. Despite there being Japanese staff talking to a group tour guide nearby, they responded dismissively when approached: "I don't have authority; accounting isn't here..." This baffling response made it clear that individual travelers are not prioritized compared to daily group tours (50–100 people) from travel agencies staying multiple nights. Lastly, I questioned why IKYU.com lists this hotel on its platform as part of its selection of luxury accommodations.

Stay cool with air conditioning on hot days!
During our 3-day, 2-night stay at Kurumayama Kogen Sky Park Hotel to escape the heat exceeding 33°C across the Kanto region, we were informed upon arrival that the air conditioning was out of order. We were assigned a west-facing Room with strong afternoon sunlight and were told to "keep the windows open." Unable to bear the heat for even five minutes, we requested a change to an east-facing Room. While cooler breezes came through later in the afternoon, areas like the bathroom remained hot. Even at 1:00 AM, our thermometer showed an indoor temperature of 27°C, making it difficult to sleep. As compensation, we received lift tickets and restaurant vouchers for nearby facilities. However, despite several days having passed since the air conditioning broke down, there seemed to be no signs of repair efforts. Other guests we encountered in the Hotel mentioned how hot it was but appeared unaware of any air conditioning issues—raising concerns about how management handled communication. Additionally, another inconvenience was that even when sharing a Room among two or three people, only one key was provided per group. This marked our fifth stay at Kurumayama Kogen Sky Park Hotel. While views from its outdoor bath remain stunning as always, issues such as poor ventilation in restrooms and noticeable aging throughout the Hotel have become increasingly concerning over time.
