    I revisited because ...

I revisited because I liked the quality of this onsen. The open-air bath with a view of the snow and the quiet indoor bath are truly exceptional! Even though it was New Year's Eve, there was no crowd, and I could quietly welcome the new year. There was an unexpected event where trains stopped due to heavy snow, but I am grateful for the kind assistance from the property staff. I will visit again; thank you for your hospitality.

    Great value for money.

Free private baths, complimentary drinks in the room refrigerator, drinks and ice service in the lounge, and more are all provided to ensure a comfortable stay. The meals were delicious both morning and evening, leaving us very satisfied, although the portions were large and we couldn't finish them. There is also a wonderful onsen available, making it an excellent value property. However, please be aware that there are multiple notices throughout the building indicating that due to its age, footsteps and voices can be heard easily. Additionally, there are stairs in various places for those who may be concerned.

    It was excellent!

We visited as a couple for a retirement celebration trip. We decided on this property because of the excellent reviews. There was a strong cold wave, so we were worried until the last minute if we could go, but it was really great that we could get there by rental car from Morioka. Among all the properties we've stayed at so far, everything from the room, onsen, meals, facilities to hospitality was top-notch. We would love to return with our family again.

A variety of unique hot springs that leave your skin smooth and moist overnight.

Unique open-air baths (Anbeii Yukko, Urugeru Yukko, Takimi no Yukko...) are scattered throughout the property, and including the large public bath, we bathed 9 times in 7 different types. Consequently, we walked a lot, which turned out to be quite a workout. After one night's stay, our skin became moist and smooth, and I believe that if we stayed another night, the winter problem of chapped hands in Kanto would have been completely healed. The meals were stylish and urban. The beef stew was served with the meat and vegetables separately, and the sauce was rich. The kiritanpo served in a wooden container was smart, and moreover, it was piping hot and the local chicken broth was delicious. The free drinks and ice candies available 24 hours in the lobby were also a delight. What surprised us was the Ichiban Shibori in the room's refrigerator. Being weak with alcohol, after going to the bath and coming back, we enjoyed it twice by sharing half each with a "Puhah" between the two of us. After checking out, stepping out to the entrance, we were greeted by a snowy landscape in the sunlight! It was truly a property in the hot spring paradise.

    Yukimi Sake

I longed for a secluded onsen and chose this property. I took a local train from Akita Station, got off at Jinba Station, and was picked up by the property staff. The snowy scenery was just as I had hoped, and we drove further from Jinba Station to reach the property. With a history of 130 years, the building and interior were retro and very charming. There are a total of eight onsens, including indoor and outdoor large baths for men and women, and four private baths. The private baths use the original onsen water, which made my skin very smooth. The snowy scenery from the bath was also wonderful, making me feel even more that I was in a secluded onsen. There is no TV or radio, and the internet connection is not good, but this became a moment of liberation from the mundane for us in the modern age. The property staff were very kind and provided warm hospitality, and we fully enjoyed the mountain delicacies. I feel that this is a property I definitely want to visit again.

Onsen, staff, building. It was more wonderful than I imagined. I understand why it has a high score on IKYU. Personally, I was delighted with the ice candy. During the meal, the magewappa sake vessel was so lovely that, although it wasn't planned, I made a stopover at Odate on the way back to purchase a magewappa. This is a property I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much.

This was my second visit to Hikei Onsen from Kansai, and I have become even more captivated by the charm of this onsen. My companion has already expressed a desire to visit again. There are onsens here that are said to be among the three most famous in Japan, but they are incomparable. A truly renowned onsen is here. The property is clean and tasteful, the meals are satisfying, and the water is excellent, making it, in my opinion, the best in Japan.

    Wonderful!

I was completely satisfied with the hot water, cuisine, room, bedding, service, price, and environment. Next time, I would love to enjoy a multiple night stay to fully indulge in the rich Onsen and delicious meals.

Thank you for your hospitality the other day.

The employee who guided us to the Room from check-in was very funny and kind! There were many private baths, so I was able to relax with my wife. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. Although there were many stink bugs, everything else was very satisfying. It was a wonderful Ryokan that I would like to visit again in a different season!

I was impressed with the perfect Stays! The Room design, view, and meals were, of course, excellent, but the hospitality was truly wonderful. I am filled with gratitude for the warm and courteous service from all the staff, which allowed me to spend a happy time.

    The meals were very delicious.

I had been interested in visiting for a long time, but due to the distance, I finally managed to make it. The bath with a view of the waterfall was more impressive than I imagined, perhaps because it was raining. The view from the large private open-air bath was wonderful. Although the weather was not great with rain and clouds, it created a fantastic mountain landscape, with the clouds changing gradually, offering a stunning view. I usually don't stay in the bath for more than 10 minutes, but I ended up soaking for a long time. In the room, there was a 2-liter bottle of water prepared, as if saying, "Enjoy the onsen to your heart's content!" It was very helpful, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The meals exceeded my expectations. I was impressed by the delicious food, with less of the overly sweet or spicy seasoning typical of the Tohoku region. The portions were just right, and I enjoyed them very much. Thank you for the feast. The room was very clean and comfortable, especially the water facilities. I would love to see the snowy landscape, but since it's a wooden structure, I wonder if it might be too cold for me in winter. There were many stairs inside, and it was dimly lit, so as someone who gets scared easily, I found myself hurrying through certain areas when going to the onsen alone (sweat). The staff were all men, but they were all very friendly and kind. The shuttle service to the station was very helpful. Thank you very much. I was able to take a leisurely bath in the morning until the train time, and the maintenance staff working outside kindly apologized for the noise. Everyone was very pleasant. I think managing the onsen and maintaining the facilities must be very challenging, but I hope you continue to do your best. I feel like it will become a place I want to visit again after some time.

    The Onsen was wonderful, but...

We stayed with the Standard Plan on October 9th. As expected from a historically renowned onsen area, each bath had its own unique features, and both the large public bath and the private bath were well-maintained, allowing us to fully enjoy the onsen. However, since there are different types of onsen with varying water qualities, I think we could have enjoyed it more if there had been a more detailed explanation about the water qualities and benefits during the initial briefing. It was a bit disappointing that the explanation was rather generic. Regarding the meals, while I don't have high expectations for meals at a therapeutic onsen, the price range and the image from the website gave the impression of a high-end onsen ryokan, so I had quite high expectations. However, the actual meal content and the quality of the ingredients were a bit disappointing. The meal felt like catered food and lacked the unique touch of the property. At the very least, I would have liked to enjoy the main dish, kiritanpo, by warming it in a pot. The selection of sake was also limited, and while it would be understandable if it were a truly secluded mountain onsen, I would have appreciated a bit more creativity. Overall, the baths and the atmosphere of the property were very good, so it would have been perfect if the meals were better.

    The hot spring is wonderful.

The quality of the hot spring water was excellent, and I felt that they were taking good care of the old building. There were various types of ice cream available in the lounge for after a bath, and drinks in the room were free to enjoy, showing consideration in many areas. I think it's unavoidable due to the structure, but since the building is long horizontally, the distance from the room to the private bath is long, and it's dark at night, so I wouldn't recommend it for those with weak legs. Unfortunately, the food didn't feel particularly special. The final dish of steamed Akita beef tasted and felt slightly oxidized, as if it had been cooked the day before. Overall, it left the impression of being worth the price.

    旅好き!!

The hot springs are absolutely amazing!!

The atmosphere, the bath, and the food were all excellent. We started our day at Aomori Airport, headed to the Shirakami Mountains for a three-and-a-half-hour trek, and then drove about an hour and a half to arrive at this inn. The moment we got out of the car, we were greeted by a strong sulfur scent, heightening our anticipation for the hot springs. The overall atmosphere of the building was retro, quiet, and clean, which was very nice. The highlight of this ryokan is undoubtedly the hot springs. In addition to the large public bath, you can use a private hot spring once each in the morning and evening without any additional charge. The Taki-mi no Yukko, which we used in the evening, allowed us to have an entire waterfall to ourselves, enjoying the hot spring while watching the waterfall, listening to its sound, and feeling the breeze. The milky white hot spring had a strong sulfur scent and a salty taste, but it wasn't too harsh on the skin, and I felt it was a very good quality spring. It was an inn that I definitely want to visit again and bring my family to.

    Please visit at least once.

I think this is a great example of successfully revitalizing a rustic hot spring inn. While retaining the charm of the past, they have changed what needed to be changed, practicing the principle of "unchanging amidst change." The food was delicious. There are several private baths, each with its own unique features, making them enjoyable. The quality of the hot spring water is good for the skin, and I thoroughly enjoyed the hot spring experience. The only disappointment was that the changing room could have been a bit cleaner. I would like to visit again to see the winter scenery.
