Although it has a nostalgic Showa-era feel, ...
In a word: extremely satisfied! The Room is spacious, and while it has a bit of a Showa-era feel that can make some things less convenient, it has been nicely updated overall. The Onsen is milky white with a sulfur scent—truly feels like an Onsen. Dinner was delicious, incorporating Akita’s local cuisine very well. For breakfast, you can choose Hinai-jidori chicken rice porridge or steamed white rice, and the side dishes are plentiful. It’s not ideal for families with small children. Recommended for adults or couples who want to relax at a leisurely pace. Just one thing: the air-conditioning noise at night carries a bit. If you turn it off, though, it’s fine. This is an Accommodation I’d love to return to after a long time.

We enjoyed a wonderful escape from everyday life.
We chose this Accommodation for the second night of our Tohoku trip from Nagoya. We came to soak in the Onsen, enjoy a cool summer getaway, and forget everyday life, and it exceeded our expectations—helping us truly unwind. The Onsen, meals, and hospitality were all outstanding; it was a wonderful Ryokan.

The Onsen is wonderful.
This was my first stay here. Above all, the Onsen were outstanding. I was able to enjoy a variety of baths— a clear, colorless iron-rich spring in the Room, a thick mixed sulfur and carbonated spring, and a gentle sulfur spring— and I was completely satisfied. The traditional Japanese meals made with mountain ingredients were also very delicious and easy on the stomach. I’m also grateful for the warm hospitality and smiles from all the staff. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

Hot spring water quality
I made a Reservation because it said there were three types of Onsen. When I arrived, the large public bath was a sulfur spring, and the private bath was a carbonated spring. Because I’m not comfortable with sulfur springs, I washed my body and hair with the shower in the public bath. I tried getting into the Onsen briefly, but it still wasn’t possible for me. In the private bath, the gas made me cough and I got out after five minutes. There was also no washing area. It was very disappointing. If there had been more detailed information at the time of Reservation, I don’t think I would have booked. I regret that this was due to my lack of understanding. The layout of the Accommodation was complicated and hard to navigate, and there were many stairs, which was difficult. There was no explanation of the dishes, and there was no conversation with staff during the meal. Combined with what felt like an underwhelming menu overall, my satisfaction level was low. Does having kiritanpo automatically make it local cuisine in Akita? The chef’s name also wasn’t listed on the menu. There was no TV, and the window air conditioner was noisy, so I turned it off at night to sleep. Overall satisfaction was low, which is very disappointing. This time, I failed to confirm various details in advance. Next time, I want to be more careful so I don’t make the same mistake.

The hot water was excellent.
The hot spring water was exceptional. The in-room Onsen was wonderful, and we also made a Reservation for the private family baths—both the sulfur bath and the carbonated spring—and enjoyed each one to the fullest. The private baths use a system where each guest makes a Reservation by placing their Room number on a reservation board in front of the lobby, and it was fun deciding which bath to choose and what time to go. The iron-rich spring bath in our Room was truly spacious and relaxing, so we soaked many times. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again.

Get ¥10,000 off with the “Hidden Akita Prefecture” Special Travel Campaign. Relax at a quiet Accommodation in the mountains. There are many private baths, and we enjoyed several of them. The meals featured plenty of local ingredients, including mountain vegetables, and we were very satisfied.

We had a relaxing stay.
An Accommodation that could be called a hidden hot spring retreat deep in the mountains. Its wooden exterior has a sense of history. Room: Two rooms—a bedroom and a Japanese-style room. No TV. It’s nice to relax after soaking in the Onsen. The refrigerator includes complimentary beer and tea. Onsen: One free private open-air bath per day (one on the first day and one on the next day), selected at check-in. Urugeru Yukko is a wide-open bath with an expansive feel. Takimi Yukko is a bath where you can soak while looking at a waterfall right in front of you. The large public bath, Nugudamaru Yukko: The indoor bath retains the warmth of old wood. Open-air bath: an open, spacious bath. Rather than the private open-air baths, this large public bath left the strongest impression and is highly recommended. All open-air baths are roofed, so you can bathe even when it rains. Meals: The portions are slightly small. The gratin was piping hot and delicious. The water tasted best of all! Even as a day trip for Onsen bathing, it’s worth visiting at least once. Also, Kofurube Onsen—about 20 minutes away by car—is another great hot spring worth visiting.

Wonderful Accommodation
This was my first stay, and I chose it for the Onsen. Needless to say, the Onsen water was excellent. Although the building dates back to the early Showa era, everything—from the Room to the hallways—was polished and spotless. The furnishings and even the tableware were wonderful, and I could really see how well everything is cared for on a daily basis. The meals were also very delicious. I would love to stay again in a different season. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

The Onsen is great.
This was my first time staying at Nikkei Onsen. The Onsen was simply wonderful!! I’ve already made two Reservations for 2026. I skipped the ice cream to maintain my weight, but my husband really enjoyed it. We’ll be back again.

Very affordable and highly satisfying!
We stayed for one night during the New Year holiday. The accommodation is about a 1-hour drive from Odate-Noshiro Airport, making it easily accessible, but as it is located deep in the mountains, there are no commercial facilities nearby. This allows guests to enjoy a tranquil environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The building itself shows its age but has a charming historical ambiance that enhances its appeal as an Onsen accommodation. The facility is well-organized and meticulously cleaned, providing a comfortable stay without feeling outdated. The Onsen lives up to its reputation with an exceptional quality—its distinct sulfur aroma and rich components create a tingling sensation on the skin. The spacious public baths include both indoor and open-air options, while five private baths offer guests the opportunity to enjoy various bathing experiences. Considering the Accommodation Fee, the meals were satisfying and delicious. All staff members were friendly and attentive, offering thoughtful service that allowed us to have an enjoyable New Year’s stay.

Blissful Moments
A charming accommodation reminiscent of the good old Showa era, well-maintained despite its vintage appearance. The variety of private onsens is captivating, each with its own unique charm. While some views from the wonderful onsen had to be compromised due to bear precautions, you can sense the owner's dedication to preserving the aesthetics. The cuisine is delightful—never repetitive, perfectly portioned, and not overly seasoned. Service was prompt and natural, with staff always smiling and attentive without being intrusive. A particularly elegant middle-aged woman who we only saw in the morning left a lasting impression with her calming presence, though we regret not catching her name. With no TV or unnecessary advertisements, it was a peaceful retreat where time seemed to slow down. Even fellow guests were considerate—no loud conversations or crying children disturbed the serene atmosphere. It truly was a blissful experience. Thank you very much!

The Onsen was excellent.
I stayed in a special room with an Onsen. I enjoyed three types of Onsen: sulfur spring, sulfur and carbon dioxide sodium spring, and iron-rich spring. I particularly loved the iron-rich spring in the room, while my husband appreciated the quality of the private bath's spring. All the Onsens left my skin smooth and warmed me to the core. The only regret was missing the radon stone sauna, but I’ll save that for next time. The night was very quiet, and I slept soundly as if embraced by the forest. The meals were delicious, and the staff's hospitality was very pleasant. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance.

The quality of the hot spring water was excellent!
It was relatively crowded, likely due to the autumn foliage season. Entering from the main road, it had a secluded hot spring atmosphere. Above all, the baths were absolutely amazing. My skin felt smooth, and I wanted to visit again and again. There are several private baths available, so arriving early gives you more options. The quality of the hot spring water is truly exceptional. The meals were thoughtfully prepared, making the stay very comfortable. I felt like staying for two nights. Hot spring enthusiasts will likely find this place highly satisfying.

I was very satisfied.
It was my first visit, and everything was excellent – the bath, the food, and the service. It's perfect for those who want to relax in peace and quiet. The only slight concern might be the possibility of encountering bears (haha).

This was my first vi...
This was my first visit. Upon arriving at the accommodation, I noticed the sulfur scent, and the wooden building surrounded by green mountains created a wonderful atmosphere. I had been curious about this accommodation for a while, and I’m glad I chose it. The hallway to the room was long and a bit confusing until I got used to it. I was looking forward to the onsen, but there seemed to be many bugs, so nets were placed over all windows and outdoor baths, which made it impossible to fully enjoy the view—this was slightly disappointing. I’d like to visit again during a different season next time. As for meals, both breakfast and dinner were served in private rooms where we enjoyed local ingredients and specialty dishes at our own pace—it was delicious! The price felt reasonable considering how beautiful everything looked; overall, I am very satisfied. Inside the facility, there are various amenities such as free drinks in the lobby, complimentary ice cream, table tennis tables, a library room, massage chairs, and even an exhibition about the history of this accommodation—all of which added extra enjoyment! Drinks in the room’s refrigerator were also free of charge—perfect after soaking in the bath!

This was my second stay in 4 years. At check-in, I asked about the private bath and the main Onsen's hot spring source, and they provided a very detailed explanation. I also experienced the paid stone sauna. They lend you a special samue outfit and towel set, making it very convenient to use. Meals were served in private rooms for both dinner and breakfast. The food was incredibly delicious, with satisfying portions and quality. The breakfast porridge is a must-try dish—if you're unsure, I recommend trying both rice and porridge! Although it seemed fully booked that day with children staying during summer vacation, it felt quiet, allowing me to relax peacefully at my own pace. This is an Onsen I would love to visit again!

Perfect in every way.
The Room is an old Showa-era building, but it is very spacious, with charming Showa-style patterned window glass and beautiful transoms. It was clean, comfortable, and without a TV, allowing us to enjoy the sounds of rain, wind, birdsong, and other natural sounds for a relaxing stay. The Onsen exceeded expectations with its rich water quality and well-maintained temperature for a comfortable experience. The private bath overlooking the waterfall was absolutely fantastic. Meals were carefully prepared with excellent seasoning that conveyed thoughtfulness and were delicious. The staff were kind, attentive, and very pleasant to interact with. The hospitality was outstanding.

The Onsen and meals were excellent, but the outdoor bath is not suitable in midsummer.
The reviews are highly rated, and the onsen, meals, and guest rooms offer warm hospitality in an environment that exudes history and elegance. However, during the peak summer season, there was a large swarm of horseflies in the open-air bath, making it impossible to use. They even entered the indoor bath from the open-air area, leaving no safe space to relax. After being bitten, I informed the front desk but only received ointment. It would have been helpful to receive a warning or comment during initial explanations or when reserving private baths—though I understand this might be difficult. In the end, I couldn't use either the private or open-air baths. Two days later, my bite has swollen significantly. While Wi-Fi is available for internet access and works fine, there is no phone signal or television. While this allows for quiet relaxation—which some may appreciate—I personally have a habit of keeping up with news and would prefer if such details were clearly stated in the plan description. Balancing customer safety with coexistence with nature must be challenging; however, as a high-grade hotel offering quality onsen experiences, measures addressing these issues seem necessary. It's unfortunate given how excellent your onsen is otherwise.

The Onsen was excellent.
I was intrigued by the high ratings of the Onsen and finally had the chance to stay. The result exceeded expectations—the natural hot spring water with a rich sulfur aroma was amazing. Both the private open-air bath and the spacious indoor bath with a soothing wooden scent were exceptional. Staying for just one night felt too short; I tried to enjoy as many baths as possible but wished I could have stayed longer. Dinner, which combined Japanese and Western dishes, was delicious. The portions were quite large, so it might be nice to have an option for smaller portions with enhanced quality instead. I would love to visit again!

The hot water was excellent.
We stayed as sisters at the accommodation. The meals and bath were excellent, but there was one thing that bothered us. When we asked at the room about the ice cream in the lobby refrigerator, "Is it all-you-can-eat?" there was a slight pause before being told, "Within reason." It felt like we were being told not to eat too much. Even though the refrigerator had a sign saying "Please help yourself," it made us wonder why they couldn't just say, "Feel free to enjoy." It wasn't a pleasant feeling. Other than that, everyone provided service with smiles and made us feel very welcome. They kindly accommodated changes to our private bath time and bus schedule with cheerful attitudes. We would love to visit this accommodation again—thank you very much!

One of the Onsen you will want to visit regularly.
In a quiet forest, surrounded by budding trees and the songs of warblers and wild birds, I enjoyed a relaxing soak in the milky white Onsen. It was truly a blissful experience. I was able to refresh my tired body and relieve accumulated stress from work. There seemed to be fewer guests than usual, which allowed me to enjoy the private open-air bath I had hoped for. This is my favorite Onsen, and I make it a point to visit at least once a year. This time, I visited with a friend and upgraded our meal plan—it was absolutely delicious! I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Thank you for your hospitality the other day. My elderly parents were very pleased as you kindly accommodated our request after consultation. The Onsen, as always, was absolutely wonderful. Additionally, the food was incredibly delicious. We will visit again. Thank you in advance.

You can relax and fully enjoy the Onsen.
The stay at the quiet Ryokan was wonderful. The Onsen, especially the private open-air bath, was one of the best I have ever experienced. The room was well-arranged for relaxation and very comfortable, but as a family that enjoys TV, we missed having one in the room. It might be due to frequent malfunctions caused by sulfur springs—understandable but unfortunate. The bed was extremely comfortable to sleep on. Dinner portions were just right for our small appetite and tasted excellent. The kiritanpo served instead of rice was also delicious. Breakfast had slightly larger portions, but every dish was very tasty as well. The lounge space was lovely, and the staff provided polite and pleasant service; however, there was a mistake with our change during checkout which led me to deduct one star—no hard feelings though (laughs).

The private bath was amazing!
Private baths can be reserved twice, at night and in the morning, which was perfect as we had children with us. The hot spring quality was exactly to my husband's liking, and he absolutely loved it. There is also a radon stone sauna that warmed us to the core.
