    Suwa Taisha Shrine Tour

    On the second day of our trip to Nagano Prefecture, we were looking for accommodation near Suwa Taisha on IKYU and found Suwa Bettei Shuhaku. It had a nearby parking lot, was right in front of Lake Suwa, and offered newly renovated rooms with an onsen, so we immediately made a reservation. *Until January 2025, it seems they operated under an [All-Inclusive] style but have since returned to their original style to enhance service quality.* The staff at the front desk provided excellent and courteous service. Although it was a weekday stay, most of the guests seemed to be Japanese. The meals were delicious; we tried the [Three Types of Sake Tasting], learned about local sake breweries, and even visited one after our trip to Suwa Taisha. The baths operate on a gender-swapping schedule. This ryokan is unique in Kamisuwa Onsen as it offers two types of onsen: Aka-no-Yu (reddish-brown water) and Shiro-no-Yu (clear water), with both indoor and outdoor baths available. There were explanations about the hot spring components near the bathtubs as well as information about Lake Suwa being located along the Shizuoka Tectonic Line (fault line). Having recently visited Fossa Magna in Itoigawa during Golden Week, I was deeply moved by this connection! Learning that Suwa Taisha is situated along both the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line and Central Tectonic Line added another layer of excitement! At checkout, I enjoyed a welcome drink that I missed out on earlier and received "Misuzu Ame" from the front desk—it was so delicious that I ended up buying many at their souvenir shop. It was a relaxing stay for adults only. I would love to stay here again!

    The staff provided pleasant and friendly service.

    The meals were very delicious, but they felt a bit heavy for my age (I should have left some...). The staff's hospitality was excellent. The location of the Ryokan is fantastic, but the access to the parking lot could be improved a little more.

    Early check-out is not available.

    I wanted to leave early to reach my next destination. I planned to take a morning bath at 5:00 AM and leave around 6:30 AM without breakfast. However, the front desk staff informed me that check-out was not possible before 7:00 AM. At 7:00 AM, I was told to wait until 7:15 AM. In the end, I checked out 45 minutes later than planned. It seems night staff cannot handle check-outs... It was disappointing.

    A wonderful accommodation full of hospitality

    We recently stayed with our 1-year-old and 3-year-old children. The accommodation and room were newly renovated, offering a simple yet cozy and relaxing space. From the balcony of our room with an onsen sourced directly from the spring, we could enjoy fireworks, which delighted the kids. What impressed us most was the hospitality of the staff. Traveling with children can often feel challenging, but their warm support made a big difference for us. Even after returning home, our children kept saying they want to visit again—it was truly a wonderful accommodation. Thank you very much!

    Next summer...

    The newly renovated rooms were comfortable, and the private Onsen in the room was excellent. We stayed in a lake-view room, but since it was on the 3rd floor, the street trees slightly obstructed the view. (This is not the hotel's fault.) I understand that views can vary depending on the floor at any hotel, so next time I would like to stay on the 5th floor. As for dinner, my husband, who usually isn't impressed even at accommodations of similar rank, was full of praise this time. He especially enjoyed the sashimi at dinner and handmade tofu at breakfast. He even enthusiastically filled out a survey provided in our room—something he rarely does—so I believe he was truly impressed. From welcoming us to front desk service, bar counter staff, dining area service, and room cleaning—every staff member provided exceptional service with warm smiles and pleasant hospitality. Fresh flowers were arranged on each floor of the facility; you could feel their attention to detail and spirit of hospitality throughout every corner. This is an accommodation we would love to revisit and highly recommend!

    Fireworks right in front of you

    We arrived a bit early, but the staff welcomed us warmly without any hesitation. They kindly offered us tickets for a sightseeing boat ride, which we thoroughly enjoyed on Lake Suwa. The Room was simple yet comfortable with tatami flooring, making it very relaxing. The bed was cozy and allowed for a great night's sleep. However, the sink area felt slightly cramped, and water splashed onto nearby items like the hairdryer when washing up. Adding a shelf in the available side space could help organize these items better. The paper towels provided in the sink area were very convenient and more hygienic than tissues. While there was only Japanese tea in the tea set, having options like black tea or coffee would have been even better. Due to dental issues, I couldn't enjoy much of the meal; however, it featured small portions of various dishes that seemed perfect for those who enjoy drinking alcohol alongside their meals. We had dinner while admiring Lake Suwa's sunset at a leisurely pace—truly delightful! The rice served at breakfast was exceptionally delicious as well. Drinks such as Yatsugatake milk, tomato juice, and coffee were available in a self-serve drink bar format. The bath was slightly hot but offered an incredible view of fireworks right before our eyes—it was breathtaking! From the open-air bath, not only could we enjoy beautiful night views but also experience large fireworks up close with stunning impact—a truly amazing location!

    Excellent.

    I entered the newly renovated Room and exclaimed, "So clean!" The tatami mats are wonderful. Above all, every dish was meticulously prepared and perfect. Elegant with a rich flavor. The light broth spreads beautifully afterward. Simply amazing. Thank you very much. As for the Facility rating of 4 stars, it's because the bathroom tiles are slippery. I was careful, but this time I slipped a bit and it was scary.

    Traveling as a family of three.

    The Room was spacious and very clean, which was great. The meals were delicious, satisfying in quantity, and visually enjoyable. Fireworks could be seen from the seat, making it perfect.

    A Ryokan I would like to stay at again.

    The Room was clean, and you can watch Netflix and YouTube on the TV, so I had an enjoyable time even while staying in the Room. The meals were very delicious, and the staff treated us kindly.

    Renovated in May, the Ryokan was sparkling clean and very pleasant. As a smoker, I appreciated having smoking areas on each floor. The view from the Room was disappointing, but the excellent hospitality more than made up for it. Having visited various Ryokans before, I can confidently say that everyone here was truly wonderful. The meals were thoughtfully prepared with a variety of flavors to keep things interesting, and as drinkers, my mother and I were very satisfied. The bath facilities featured two different hot spring sources, allowing us to enjoy both in one visit—this was fantastic! If I had to point out any drawbacks: there was only one vending machine located on the first floor offering cold drinks only. Since I usually prefer warm beverages even in summer (like coffee), it would have been great if those options were available too. (Though crossing the road to a nearby convenience store is an option if it's not too much trouble!) Additionally, it would be convenient if electronic payment methods like PayPay could be used at the gift shop. All in all, this trip turned out amazing thanks to their exceptional hospitality! Thank you so much!

    Unfortunately.

    The staff's efforts for the grand reopening were noticeable. However, there are several significant areas that need improvement. ■ Room & Amenities The room was clean and well-maintained due to the recent reopening. However, the bed was unusually hard and very uncomfortable to sleep on. To be frank, the quality of desks, chairs, beds, and other furnishings throughout the facility seemed poor. ■ Service & Hospitality While there seemed to be some trial-and-error efforts, the service during meals was particularly disappointing. ■ Onsen & Bathing Facilities Regarding the bathroom in our room, there was a strong smell of disinfectant (possibly chlorine), which was unpleasant. Additionally, a part of it appeared broken and should have been checked beforehand. ■ Facility & Equipment Unfortunately, overall it felt like the accommodation did not match its price point in terms of value for money. ■ Dining Experience This aspect was most disappointing for us. The system involving receiving some dishes from a central kitchen caused confusion among many guests including ourselves as it did not function properly. Despite raising our hands or calling out multiple times at our table we were ignored by waitstaff leading us into frustrating moments waiting endlessly without assistance or response from them! Coordination between courses lacked entirely; dishes arrived either too early before finishing previous ones—or worse—never came at all! Lastly main meat dish served consisted mostly fatty parts rendering unappetizing experience altogether leaving much desired improvement here moving forward! For future guests considering reservations: Please note past reviews may give impression this Accommodation operates under "all-inclusive" model however since May’s grand reopening such offerings ceased alongside notable changes compared pre-May operations so kindly take heed accordingly when planning stays ahead

    Relaxed.

    The location is excellent and the surroundings are quite nice. However, the parking lot is far away, making it a bit difficult to carry luggage. The area in front of the Hotel is narrow, and if another car is parked there, stopping becomes impossible, requiring another round. After checking out, you will need to carry your luggage to the parking lot. It's unfortunate because the meals and staff service are outstanding.

    Limited-Time Plan (Hotaru Doyo Park Admission Ticket & Shuttle Service) with Shuhaku Gozen Meal. Upgraded from a standard 12-tatami Japanese-style room to a spacious modern Japanese-style room—lucky! The AiR bed mattress provided the best sleep. The Shuhaku Gozen dinner and breakfast were both satisfying. Although the mountains like the Southern Alps were hidden by clouds, it made for a more magical view of Lake Suwa while enjoying the open-air bath. The fireflies at Hotaru Doyo Park exceeded expectations and were truly mesmerizing. Thank you for your kind assistance with retrieving forgotten items from the closet after check-out!

    A bit disappointing!?

    The location is excellent, but it was a bit disappointing that the parking lot is far away. The meals and the feel of the Room were good, but I noticed a slight smell from recent renovations in the Room. It might be better to improve this by using incense or similar methods. The staff's explanations about food and drinks were detailed and very helpful. However, the timing between meal servings felt slightly rushed. Overall operations could be improved slightly for an even better experience.

    A Premium Experience

    I chose this Hotel because the rooms were newly renovated. The price was also reasonable. I was satisfied with everything, including the service, experience, room, and food. My wife was very happy and said it was a great experience. Since we stayed for only one night, we had little luggage and didn’t mind, but the parking lot is a bit far away, which might be inconvenient for those with lots of luggage. Even so, I can still recommend this Hotel.

    My wife and I stayed for one night in the 2025 NEW [Modern Japanese Room (37 sqm) Non-Smoking] (Twin). The room, though compact, was clean and had a simple, user-friendly design that made it feel spacious. The built-in reading lights were stylish. I embarrassingly learned for the first time that there are two hot spring sources here, and the water quality was excellent. The open-air bath with a view of Lake Suwa was incredibly relaxing; we enjoyed it both in the evening and morning. Dinner was luxurious to the point of being almost too much, with the highlight being the melt-in-your-mouth Shinshu beef—it was absolutely superb. The restaurant staff frequently checked on us during our meal, making dining enjoyable (perhaps they were encouraging us since we eat slowly... haha). I also remember them openly discussing concerns about menu options for those who might not like river fish (which applies to us as well). Overall, while this accommodation may be compact, it felt cozy in a good way. With dining on the second floor, baths on the sixth floor, and reception/shop on the first floor—all conveniently close—it made navigation easy and stress-free!

    The hospitality at this accommodation was somewhat lacking.

    I visited based on the information about the renovation. The room was newly renovated and very clean. However, I felt a slight lack of hospitality in response to our meal orders, which was disappointing. Although it seems to be a long-established accommodation, there were moments where I noticed some actions that made me think staff training might be slightly insufficient, which was a bit unfortunate. The open-air bath was great, but the water pressure of the shower was very weak and should be improved. I hope efforts will be made to enhance hospitality in the future.

    Enjoyed New Year's Eve and New Year

    I stayed with my elderly mother and family. The large bath on the 6th floor, especially the open-air bath, offered a wonderful view of Lake Suwa right in front of us, which was very pleasant. The location facing the lakeside is incomparable. The all-inclusive system is great. It includes most of the local sake, and the draft beer after the bath and the bar time service were excellent. Also, the soba restaurant we were introduced to was very delicious, especially the wakasagi tempura. I am grateful not only for the facilities but also for the thoughtfulness of the staff. If I had to say, I would hope for an improvement in the quality of the beds.

    Room with a view of the lake

    My 85-year-old parents used it. They changed the room to one with a lake view because it was available. They were very pleased with the room, food, and the staff's service. Thank you very much.

    1 night, 2 days trip

    The staff's attentive service was excellent. I felt that the explanation of the meals and the timing of the serving were appropriate. The Onsen was as expected from the Hotel's name, with two types of smoothness, which was great. The meals had a wide variety of dishes, and there was plenty of alcohol, which was delicious. The sweets at the café corner were also satisfying. Although it is all-inclusive, I think it would be even better if there was a soft drink machine. For refreshing after alcohol or when you just want a quick drink. I was able to rest well. I look forward to visiting again after the renewal.

    The parking lot is too narrow.

    I enjoyed my stay. However, the parking space per vehicle was too narrow, and I struggled because the cars on both sides and in the front row seemed too large to exit. I was finally able to get out when the person in the front row came and moved their car. The parking spaces are too narrow. I hope you can make some arrangements, such as having attendants guide parking during peak hours, to accommodate vehicles of different sizes.

    It was a Ryokan friendly to children.

    We stayed with our 9-year-old and 4-year-old children, and we were quite noisy. We chose this Ryokan for the Onsen with two types of water, red and white, but the open-air bath with a panoramic view of Lake Suwa was simply the best. In the family bath, we could enjoy both red and white at the same time, which was also very nice. We fully enjoyed Suwa with activities like smelt fishing, visiting Suwa Takashima Castle, and jogging around Lake Suwa. Perhaps by chance, we didn't see many other guests with children, but the staff was very kind to our kids, and the children's menu was well-prepared, making it a truly wonderful trip. Thank you very much.

    The attentive service, the open-air bath and Room terrace overlooking Lake Suwa, the delicious cuisine, everything was very satisfying. Furthermore, with the all-inclusive Plan offering unlimited drinks, I felt like I got a great deal and was able to spend my time very pleasantly!

    The onsen water was very good, and the staff's service was excellent, allowing for a pleasant stay. The meals were of high quality and very satisfying. Being all-inclusive, we also enjoyed the drinks and snacks service. It's a property I would like to stay at again.

    I was able to show appreciation to my grandparents.

    We chose this Ryokan for our first trip with our grandparents. The cleanliness was impeccable, and we selected the Shinshu cuisine, which was excellent. We were able to give our grandparents a wonderful experience. We would like to stay again if we have the opportunity.
