The location was excellent. Here are some areas for improvement: There were cobwebs in the Room. The wiring behind the TV was exposed and tangled. It was nice to have table tennis (extra fee), but the rubber on all paddles was peeling off. It was nice to have putt-putt golf (extra fee), but it is not maintained. The artificial turf (?) is so badly torn that you can hardly tell what remains (it was so poor that every hole felt like an extreme course). During meals, there wasn’t a table that could seat five, so we had to add chairs on the side, but a bar got in the way and we couldn’t sit comfortably.

The staff’s hospitality is outstanding.
I don’t usually post Reviews, but this stay was truly wonderful, so I wanted to leave a comment. We stayed for one night to celebrate my husband’s birthday. From the pleasant service at the front desk to the Onsen amenities and the afternoon tea served in our Room, we felt warm hospitality everywhere—a genuine desire to delight guests throughout our stay. While the building itself is historic, it is impeccably cleaned and well maintained down to every detail, and you can really tell how much the staff cherish this Hotel. In addition to the breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea from the expansive grounds, we enjoyed strolling through the fields and lawns and searching for art objects—simply being on the property made us feel enriched. And the birthday cake prepared for our celebration was unbelievably delicious—we were truly impressed! It may have been the best birthday cake I’ve ever had. My husband was thrilled as well and said, “I want to come back here again next year.” Choosing this Hotel was absolutely the right decision. It became a wonderful memory for us. Thank you very much.

Excellent buffet and hot spring water quality! An older Hotel, but thoroughly cleaned and well maintained.
- A Hotel that works hard to keep an older building impeccably clean The guest room had an older-style unit bath, but the faucet was polished to a shine and felt very pleasant. The air-conditioning piping and panels had also been renewed (the vents remained the same), and I could tell they’ve put thought into keeping guests comfortable. - A buffet impressed by the live-kitchen meat and olive oils This Hotel is known for its buffet, and it lived up to expectations with a wide variety of dishes. In particular, the live-kitchen steak portions were on the smaller side, but the meat was excellent quality and truly delicious. Since it’s a buffet, being able to go back as many times as you like for freshly cooked, high-quality meat actually felt like a real luxury. Also very fitting for Shodoshima, there were 5–6 kinds of olive oil lined up in bottles, and it was wonderful to compare them by dipping your favorite bread. - An open-air bath that leaves your skin silky smooth The water quality was great, and I could really feel my skin becoming smooth. Unfortunately it rained that day so we couldn’t see the sea, but on a clear day I imagine you can enjoy a beautiful Seto Inland Sea sunset. One small missed opportunity: despite having such a spacious open-air area, access outside the tub area was restricted. It may be for safety due to large rocks, but if they could make better use of the space—such as adding even a few chairs for cooling down—it would be even more relaxing. All in all, it was a very good stay. Thank you very much.

Highly satisfied.
The Room was spacious, clean, and wonderful. When I opened the window, I was surrounded by greenery, could see the sea in the distance, felt a refreshing breeze, and heard birds singing—so I was able to relax and truly unwind. Choosing the plan with both breakfast and dinner was absolutely the right decision. Although it was a buffet, everything was fresh, and not only were there plenty of ingredients from Shodoshima, but the seasonings such as olive oil, dressings, and soy sauce were especially delicious. I loved the colorful tomatoes and ate lots of them. The staff were kind and attentive. The bath area was also spacious and very pleasant. After breakfast, I took a walk around the garden. The large grounds were filled with many flowers and herbs in bloom and were beautifully maintained. There was a group visiting from overseas as well, but the property is so spacious that it never felt noisy—making for a great rest. I will definitely come again.

The sunset views are stunning.
The Facility and amenities don’t feel new, and you can sense their age. Perhaps it was built in an era before mobile phones—there were no power outlets by the bedside, so charging was inconvenient. However, each staff member was very pleasant, and I felt their hospitality. It was a shame that the person who handled my check-in didn’t mention the welcome drink, but I assume they were new, so it can’t be helped. I used the buffet for both breakfast and dinner; it featured plenty of local ingredients and was very delicious. In particular, the Olive Beef steak at dinner was so good that I went back for seconds several times. As a solo traveler, I felt a bit uneasy being surrounded mostly by groups, but there were also a few other solo guests here and there. It wasn’t as uncomfortable as I had expected, and I was able to enjoy my meals. The best part was the sunset seen from the garden and my Room. I took a walk until sunset; roses were beautifully in bloom, and there were unexpectedly photogenic spots that made it enjoyable. I then watched the sun set slowly from my Room—it was so beautiful that it truly moved me. In my busy daily life, I rarely get to watch a sunset this leisurely, so it felt like an escape from everyday routine and left me refreshed. Thank you very much.

The stay exceeded my expectations.
We stayed for two nights over Golden Week, combining a Kagawa udon trip with a visit to Shodoshima. There were two adults and two children in our group, and we splurged on a nicer Room—but this Ryokan exceeded our expectations. What stood out first was the warm hospitality of the staff. Whenever we asked about dinner times or evening events, they guided us with great care, and we felt comfortable throughout our stay. The Onsen was never crowded, so we could relax and soothe our tired bodies after visiting Kotohira Shrine. The meals were excellent, and our daughter was thrilled with the all-you-can-eat strawberries. Although the sky was cloudy, seeing the sunset through breaks in the clouds, enjoying a string instrument concert, and relaxing in the spacious garden with a borrowed picnic set all became wonderful family memories. Above all, the Room was truly lovely. Not only was it spacious, but it also had high ceilings, which made it feel especially open and relaxing. We would love to stay again. Next time, we look forward to a star-filled sky and watching the sunset on a clear day.

The breakfast and dinner buffets were excellent.
The meals were even more delicious than expected. The Room where we could stay with our dog was also well-cleaned, which was great. Our child also seemed to enjoy the treasure hunt. Thank you very much.

Lovely Room
We stayed on the executive floor. Our family of four stayed here, and with the dining area and a large terrace it felt very spacious. The bathroom facilities were new and stylish, and everything was kept very clean. We arrived early, so we enjoyed playing tennis—the court could be used without a court fee. It seems you can also play table tennis and mini golf, and they also provide picnic sets, so an early check-in is recommended! The buffet-style meals were all delicious, and I was happy to eat plenty of strawberries. The olive beef I had been looking forward to tasted great, but the portion was so small that I hesitated to take multiple plates, which was a bit disappointing. Shodoshima was a wonderful place, and this is an Accommodation we would like to visit again.

Family Trip
We chose to stay here because we could enjoy strawberries at the buffet! We took walks outside, and the grounds were very spacious—we enjoyed the hammocks and art. We ate so many strawberries at both dinner and breakfast that we were completely full; both kids and adults enjoyed lots of sweet, delicious strawberries! At dinner, there were two kinds of strawberries, plus cake and panna cotta, which were also delicious. The sashimi, somen noodles, and meat were great too! The Onsen was silky-smooth and amazing! If I had to mention one thing, I’d like towels to be available in the changing room—bringing them from the Room is quite a hassle. The staff were all friendly with great service, which really lifted our mood. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we couldn’t see the sunset… There was also a fireplace, and the coffee was delicious! The Room felt quite old, but it was well cleaned and spacious enough. We stayed at a reasonable price and got to eat our fill of sweet, delicious strawberries—so I’m glad we stayed here! Thank you very much for taking care of us!

The strawberries were delicious.
We stayed for two nights with our 4-month-old son. The Shuttle Service from Tonosho Port to the Hotel, as well as the Shuttle Service from the Hotel to Angel Road, was very convenient. The Room has only the essential amenities, but it was more than enough for the three of us to sleep comfortably together. At night, we could hear some noise from other rooms (doors opening and closing), but we brought earplugs so it wasn’t an issue for us. Dinner was a buffet, and we enjoyed delicious seafood and strawberries. We’d love to stay again to see the beautiful sunset—this is an Accommodation that made us feel that way.

This was my second stay.
Once again, we enjoyed strawberries with the buffet-style meals. The Onsen was also wonderful, and it felt like it helped improve the muscle strain I’d had. In the evening, we enjoyed drinks by the fireplace. I hadn’t noticed last time, but this time they kindly explained that they also have Scotch and wine. We chose a set that came with snack nuts and delicious dried fruit—very reasonably priced compared to bars in Osaka! They dim the lights so you can enjoy watching the stove fire, creating a great atmosphere. There aren’t many places where you can relax with a drink while gazing at a fire. Since the lobby is spacious, there were also families with children. It’s nice that everyone can enjoy it together. All of the staff were friendly, very attentive, and made our stay truly comfortable. I’d love to stay again if I have the chance. Thank you very much.

Strawberries, Fireplace, and Spacious Room
1-night, 2-day stay included two buffet meals. The room was very spacious and surprising! It felt twice as large as expected, possibly designed for families. Although the building seemed a bit aged, it was clean. **Highlights:** - Clean and spacious room. - Excellent staff service. - Convenient luggage carts available to bring items to the room yourself. - Beautiful fireplace in the lobby. - Stunning sunset views. - Large bath with plenty of amenities provided. - Lucky to see the sunset from the bath (gender-swapped bathing schedule). - The strawberries at the buffet were amazing! **Disappointments:** - Wanted to enjoy some fine whiskey by the fireplace but only light cocktails were available. - Room wear was yukata; however, there wasn’t a larger size for wider builds—only taller sizes were available. Since I wanted to enjoy multiple baths, I would have preferred something like onsen facility loungewear over yukata personally. - Sauna wasn’t operating in the morning; I had hoped to use it early in the day. Overall, it was an excellent accommodation! Would love to visit again!

Very relaxing.
The New Year on Shodoshima was colder than expected and different from the image I had, but this Hotel provided a warm and relaxing experience thanks to the kind and attentive staff. While the building is not brand new, the lobby with its fireplace offered a great view, and the Seto Inland Sea scenery from the guest room was stunning. The rooms and restaurant were also clean and comfortable. - Meals were buffet-style only, but both dinner and breakfast featured carefully prepared dishes that were very satisfying. The roast beef and ozoni service added a festive New Year touch. - The Onsen was clean with an open-air bath offering beautiful views that could be enjoyed both at night and in the morning. - With rental cars or car-sharing options available, it was convenient and affordable for our group of seven to explore around the island. The farewell by staff as we departed left a lasting impression as they waved us off until we disappeared beyond a curve in the road. I hope this tradition continues forever. (Attached is an image of their farewell; please feel free to delete it if individuals can be identified.)

I had a relaxing and comfortable stay.
We stayed as a family of three, and it was a very relaxing experience. The room was spacious, with white wallpaper and warm-toned lighting that created a pleasant atmosphere. The view from the large windows was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy when we arrived, so we missed the famous sunset, which was a bit disappointing. The buffet course meals were excellent. There were plenty of dishes featuring local ingredients from Shodoshima, including olives. For dinner, we enjoyed roasted Olive Beef (perhaps this was a special dish included in the course?), and for breakfast, there was ozoni soup served as well. The Onsen received high praise from my husband and son—they said it felt amazing! Last year, we stayed at luxurious accommodations like Hotel Amsterdam in Huis Ten Bosch and Biwako Hotel; however, Olivian Shodoshima offered an even more relaxing experience overall. I often wonder where the charm of accommodations comes from—it’s fascinating to think about! We didn’t know there would be a fireplace on-site but were thrilled to find one (I personally love fireplaces). I’d definitely love to stay here again. That said, due to my health condition, we stayed in an accessible room where I noticed one drawback—the air conditioner seemed old and made noise during quiet nights. We ended up turning it off to sleep but had to turn it back on when it got cold during the night—this back-and-forth adjustment was the only downside of our stay.

Lots of strawberries
The meals exceeded my expectations overall. The all-you-can-eat strawberries, which were grown on the property's own farm, were a rare treat and available in abundance for both dinner and breakfast with excellent taste. However, I think it would be better if miso soup was included in the dinner menu. As for facilities other than meals, it was disappointing that the sauna in the bath area only operated until 10 PM and was not open in the morning. Since I arrived late, I couldn't use it. If there is no morning operation, I would prefer if the evening hours could be extended to match this limitation. Additionally, there is a restaurant and shop near the entrance or front desk located at one end of the building; however, my assigned Room was at the opposite end of the building—the farthest Room from these facilities—which made everything feel quite distant to access. Besides mentioning features like sunrise/sunset views or ocean views as part of Plan descriptions for Rooms, I think it would also be helpful to include information about how far Rooms are from key facilities like restaurants or shops when making a reservation decision since such details are important alongside pricing considerations.

Hotel with Scenic Views
The sunset view from the Hotel is stunning, but the scenery is enjoyable at any time of day. The spacious grounds are perfect for a leisurely stroll. Watching the sunset with a glass of sparkling wine in hand adds a touch of elegance to your stay. The large bath area was very relaxing, and having strawberries available at breakfast was a delightful treat.

Price and quality... This might be the standard for accommodations in Shodoshima.
Overall, the experience was as expected. However, due to the location on Shodoshima, I felt the cost performance was not great. The view during sunset while enjoying sparkling wine lived up to its reputation. The male staff near the front desk who assisted us was very kind, leaving a good first impression of the hotel. The guest room was more spacious than anticipated with a nice view. It seemed like it would be fun for group gatherings and drinks. The dinner buffet had a decent variety and was satisfying. The breakfast buffet, however, felt comparable to that of a business hotel. The aging of the large public bath stood out. There was an odor coming from the drains, and because of bright lighting, flaws were noticeable. I didn’t particularly feel anything special about the hot spring quality, and the sauna seemed electric? It left me unimpressed... I only used it before bed. It seems that other resort hotels in this area have similar pricing and noticeable aging facilities as well. This lack of competition among accommodations appears to contribute to this situation.

I was soothed by the sunset.
Although I accidentally did not reserve a sunset-side room, I was able to enjoy the beautiful sunset while sipping the wine offered in the lobby. The room was spacious, but it was unfortunate that the bathroom felt small. The large public bath was not crowded, perhaps because I went early, and I had a pleasant bathing experience. Thank you very much.

The room was indeed spacious, and the bed was large. However, the breakfast dining area was cramped, making it difficult to enjoy the meal comfortably. I arrived late and was too tired to use the Onsen, but I still paid for it. Shouldn't there be some confirmation of usage?

Room Rank
Perhaps due to being a single guest or booking through the reservation site, the room assigned as a sea-facing room with sunset views seemed to be the least favorable. It was a corner room on the first floor, with trees blocking the view. Since the weather was bad that day and I couldn't see the sunset, it didn't bother me much, but it must have been offered at the lowest rate among reservations for that day.

As a frequent IKYU user, this is my first time writing a Review for a Hotel. I am posting this because I had a very disappointing experience. The front desk staff was extremely rude, which left me feeling unsettled throughout what was supposed to be an enjoyable trip. Additionally, as others have mentioned, the Room is very outdated. Amenities like lotion and makeup remover are only available in bottles at the public bath and cannot be used in the Room. I do not feel that the price matches the quality provided.

With Your Dog
Visited Shodoshima for a 2-day, 1-night sightseeing trip with my dog. As it was my first visit to Shodoshima and I wasn't familiar with the area, I chose Olivian Shodoshima Hotel based on its good online reviews. The accommodation is located on a hill, offering stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and sunsets from the hotel. However, it is slightly far from major tourist attractions, making it a bit inconvenient as a base for sightseeing trips. On the other hand, its secluded location provides a quiet environment perfect for those seeking tranquility. The dinner buffet, breakfast buffet, and onsen were excellent—great value for money overall. There is also an off-leash dog run available (though slightly distant), allowing dogs to run freely and enjoy themselves. However, during bedtime in the room, dogs are required to stay in soundproof cages provided by the hotel, which might feel somewhat restrictive. In conclusion, this hotel is ideal for families who want to explore during the day and relax while enjoying Shodoshima's serene scenery at night. For dogs though—it might feel a bit confined at times...

Create summer memories with your family.
We recently stayed on Shodoshima, a place we couldn't visit before despite its proximity, and our entire family was truly satisfied with everything. Our family of four, including a 3-year-old, a 6th grader, and us parents, stayed in an ocean-view Room with triple beds where we enjoyed beautiful sunsets. The meals were satisfying, and the pool and bath facilities were excellent—both body and mind felt rejuvenated. We’re already looking forward to coming back next summer!

Had a comfortable stay!
The Room was clean and well-maintained, and the Facility was very satisfying. The afternoon tea was stylish, and the sweets were delicious—absolutely perfect! We were also very pleased with the Laura Ashley amenities and Imabari towel service. If possible, it would be great to have something like an "Adult Travel Plan." It would be even better if there were options like a yukata rental (even for a fee) or an upgraded meal Plan featuring kaiseki cuisine. I look forward to staying again. Thank you!

It was very comfortable.
We stayed at this accommodation to celebrate a special occasion and were very satisfied. The reception staff were attentive, the room was renovated and clean, and complimentary drinks in the refrigerator added to our satisfaction. The weather was great, offering stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea, making our stay extremely comfortable. The stay included dinner and breakfast featuring plenty of local ingredients, which we enjoyed while admiring the beautiful scenery—an exceptional dining experience. We also used the large public bath, which was well-maintained and spotless, allowing us to relax fully. This trip to Shodoshima created wonderful memories for us. Overall, there were no unpleasant experiences during our stay at this hotel; it exceeded expectations in every way. We would definitely love to stay here again!
