    It was a very nice A...

    It was a very nice Accommodation. I rated only the meals 4 stars, but that was probably just because I noticed slight differences in broth and seasoning between the Kanto and Kansai styles.

    Aren’t you relying too much on the Mariya Takeuchi brand?

    It didn’t feel that great. Some staff provided reasonably good service, but overall—including the restaurant—the atmosphere was not welcoming, and guest information was not shared among staff. The management is below Hotel level. My wife gave souvenirs from Chihiro in Osaka for everyone, and although they knew this, the only person who thanked us was the staff member at the front desk when we handed them over. You can tell in many ways that they are relying on their name value. Given how many short-term resort workers they use, there probably aren’t many long-term staff. In that case, Hanawarabi is far better. The seasoning of the food was acceptable and the execution was good overall, but serving ocean fish and river fish together is basically a no-go. If you want guests to enjoy it properly, you should serve river fish first and then ocean fish; doing it the other way around shows a complete lack of understanding about fish. This time as well, they served sashimi such as yellowtail (buri), sea bream (tai), and shrimp first, along with eel wrapped in a dumpling-like preparation, and then brought out salt-grilled ayu afterward. After rich, fatty buri, tai, and eel, serving mild ayu makes the texture and impact drop sharply. Even delicious Enokawa ayu tastes great on its own, but within a kaiseki meal after ocean fish it becomes too light and ruins the balance. If you serve it at all, it should be at breakfast. Also: after opening the entrance door and taking off our shoes until we walked inside further—there were no staff to greet us; we only heard “welcome” after going to the front desk. These days even an ordinary Ryokan would not do this—and at checkout there was no one to see us off either. When we went to our Room there was a basic explanation of Room facilities as expected, but there was no guidance or explanation at all about what made this “special” Room special—what exactly is special about it? Is it historically significant? There was no information or explanation whatsoever.

    We made a same-day Reservation for a family of four, and were truly impressed by the warm, attentive hospitality. The Ryokan has a wonderful sense of history and is beautifully maintained, making our stay very comfortable. Located right next to Izumo Taisha Shrine, we were able to visit early in the cool morning, enjoy a delicious local breakfast at the Ryokan, and take our time shopping afterward.

    The Best Trip

    It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. It’s almost right in front of Izumo Taisha—I didn’t realize it would be that close. Having an Accommodation nearby was perfect: we could rest right away after visiting in the heat, and also enjoy the atmosphere around the torii gates of Izumo Taisha early in the morning and late at night. I later learned that this is Mariya Takeuchi’s family home. I often listen to her music, so her vibe and the feel of the Accommodation really seemed to align—I was genuinely impressed. I’d love to come back again someday.

    It was the best Accommodation for my elderly mother. We could enjoy the bath while looking out at the garden. With it being midsummer, all five air conditioners were running at full capacity. The Airweave mattress was very comfortable to sleep on. The Japanese meals were delicious, and we felt refreshed and were able to spend a happy time. Just looking at the garden was incredibly relaxing. Thank you very much.

    It’s calming and relaxing.

    I have stayed here several times, and the service is calm and relaxing. I also felt that the carefully prepared meals have been getting better year by year. If I could ask for anything, I would be happy if guests could choose from different pillow heights, and if two Room keys were provided. I will stay here again when visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    If you’re going to Izumo, this is the only place to stay.

    This was my first stay. Both the exterior and interior are very calm, spotless, and beautifully maintained. Perfect for an adults’ trip. Even families with children were considerate, and every meal—both the timing and the dishes—was prepared with exceptional care: delicious, beautifully presented, and served in a quiet atmosphere where everyone could enjoy it peacefully. I was extremely satisfied. For families with very young children, this Ryokan may feel a bit too mature. For visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine, staying here is the only choice. It was an outstanding Accommodation.

    Standard Ryokan

    It was an ordinary Ryokan. An ordinary Room, an average-sized bath, and ordinary meals. I was surprised because it is advertised quite extravagantly. The best point is that it’s close to Izumo Taisha Shrine. Inside the building, there was a musty smell typical of long-established Ryokan. Those used to Hotels may find it a bit unfamiliar. Overall, the balance is good. It’s better not to expect a luxury Ryokan. It’s simply a long-established Ryokan with the strong convenience of being close to Izumo Taisha Shrine—an ordinary Ryokan in that sense. I didn’t have a bad impression after staying, but I didn’t have much of a great impression either. When I visit Izumo Taisha Shrine again, I’d like to stay here again.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    I stayed here for a shrine pilgrimage in the Izumo area. Located right in front of Izumo Taisha, it was the perfect Accommodation for an early-morning visit. From the moment I stepped inside on the first day, the soothing scent of incense welcomed me. The spotless interior and well-kept garden created a truly authentic Ryokan atmosphere. The Room was impeccably cleaned and very comfortable. The meals I had been looking forward to were flawless—absolutely outstanding. Not only the taste, but also the presentation and tableware were all superb. It was a feast for both palate and eyes, with seasonal ingredients that let you feel the time of year—exactly what dining at a Ryokan should be. The bedding was Airweave; it had just the right firmness and helped relieve my fatigue. I slept soundly. I will definitely stay here again.

    The Best Japanese Ryokan

    I’m a huge fan of Mariya Takeuchi and Tatsuro Yamashita, and I’ve been dreaming of this day for a long time. With the charm of a good old Japanese Ryokan, refined taste, and beautiful hospitality, I felt that Takenoya Ryokan truly captures everything wonderful about a Japanese Ryokan. Above all, I was amazed by how beautiful and delicious the food was! With Mariya and Tatsuro’s music playing in the background, it was the best dining experience imaginable for a fan like me. The only disappointment was that there wasn’t an open-air bath. As someone who loves open-air baths, that was a shame—but the spotless, sparkling-clean bath was so pleasant that I was completely satisfied even without one. Also, thank you to the staff for kindly and carefully helping me arrange a taxi at short notice. The dreamlike time passed in an instant, and I left Takenoya Ryokan already decided that next time I’ll stay for two nights. Thank you so much for giving me one of the best memories of my life.

    Great value Accommodation

    [What I liked] - The location is excellent—right in front of Izumo Taisha Shrine. It’s easy to shop for souvenirs and enjoy street food, making great use of your time. - The bedding is Airweave. - The complimentary original coffee was delicious. - The meals were tasty, and the portions were just right. [What I didn’t like] - After using the amenity-set towel in the bath, there weren’t enough towels left to use in the Room. - The bath was not an Onsen—just a regular bath. - The Room walls seemed thin, and I could hear voices from next door (though I couldn’t make out what they were saying).

    A bit disappointing.

    I’d wanted to stay here for a long time, as it is said to be Mariya Takeuchi’s family home. It’s unbelievably close to Izumo Taisha (right in front), and although the building is old, it has a dignified presence—such a lovely Ryokan. The food was quite good overall, but unfortunately, even though I specifically chose the nodoguro Plan, both the tempura and the salt-grilled fish were served completely cold, which was disappointing. I had really been looking forward to it. The complimentary coffee you can drink freely was very delicious, and I was happy about that. During dinner, songs by Mariya and Tatsuro played softly in the background.

    A calm and pleasant accommodation.

    I chose this Accommodation mainly because it is very close to Izumo Taisha, and it turned out to be a lovely place with no unnecessary extravagance. I only learned after making the Reservation that it is Mariya Takeuchi’s family home, and sure enough, the background music inside was Tatsuro & Mariya. I believe I stayed in the most affordable Room, but despite being a long-established inn, they have put considerable thought into accessibility. Dinner was unfortunately not served in the Room, but there were no issues with the meal itself. Nothing flashy or gimmicky—just reliably good food. The staff were also very kind and welcoming, which made for a comfortable stay. However, the futon—perhaps one of their selling points—was a bit disappointing in terms of comfort. That was my only drawback.

    The food is excellent.

    Although it is an old Ryokan that is Mariya Takeuchi’s family home, the meals were excellent. The staff were also very attentive, and we had a very pleasant time.

    An Izumo trip with my schooldays teacher and classmates

    This year, I traveled to Izumo with my teacher. I really wanted to stay at Takenoya Ryokan in Izumo, so I made a Reservation early. It was a wonderful Ryokan, and above all, the food was outstanding—I almost felt it was too beautiful to eat. The bath was also very relaxing. The location is right in front of the torii gate of Izumo Taisha Shrine, and Inasa Beach is within walking distance. We visited Izumo Taisha in the morning, had Izumo soba for lunch, then took a taxi in the afternoon to visit Hinomisaki Lighthouse and Hinomisaki Shrine, and stopped by Inasa Beach on the way back. Breakfast was delicious too—I finished everything. The rice from Izumo was especially tasty. During meals, nostalgic songs by Mariya Takeuchi and Tatsuro Yamashita were playing. My teacher and classmates were very happy as well. I’m glad we stayed at Takenoya Ryokan. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    A long-established Ryokan located at the entrance to Izumo Taisha Shrine.

    I stayed here to visit Izumo Taisha Shrine. It is in a very convenient location, and I was able to go early in the morning and worship at Izumo Taisha with no one around. This is a long-established Ryokan owned by Mariya Takeuchi’s family, and the interior is very clean and comfortable. I chose the Plan with dinner and breakfast (including grilled nodoguro with salt), and the meals were very satisfying. Thank you very much.

    A Dreamlike Stay

    I stayed at this Accommodation with my husband last year and loved it, so I returned with a friend who is a big fan of Mariya. As soon as we stepped into the entrance, the gentle scent of incense filled the building and was incredibly soothing. The meals were not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes. Also, the staff were wonderful, and we felt comfortable all the way through checkout. Thank you very much. As our stay approached, we received email updates and confirmations, which made us even more excited. It was a truly memorable trip.

    Delicious meals and an Accommodation that evokes Mariya Takeuchi

    It’s very convenient, as it’s located right near Izumo Taisha Shrine and you can walk there easily. At the front desk and in the restaurant, Mariya Takeuchi’s songs played softly, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The meals were delicious, and it was fun to see thoughtfully chosen tableware, including mallet-shaped dishes inspired by Uchide no Kozuchi. I bought an Uchide no Kozuchi souvenir at the shop to take home. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    It was wonderful!!!

    My friend is a huge, huge, huge fan of Mariya Takeuchi, and my mother’s hometown is Izumo City, so we’d always said, “Someday we should travel to Izumo!”—and this time we finally made it happen. It truly had the atmosphere of a long-established Ryokan. Everything was thoughtfully taken care of, and there was even a Mariya & Tatsuro corner, which my friend really enjoyed. We were able to visit many shrines in Izumo, the land of the gods, and at the end of the trip we went to my grandmother’s home and shared nostalgic stories from long ago. The food was also very delicious. Thank you so much. We’d love to come again!

    Thank you for taking care of us during our stay. This time, we visited as a couple. We were finally able to stay here, as we had long hoped.     From the lobby, the property already had a historic atmosphere and felt very luxurious. The Room we stayed in seemed to be in a newer annex; it was clean, very comfortable, and we had a wonderful stay. We booked a breakfast-only Plan, and the breakfast was exceptionally delicious—we were very satisfied. It was a bit disappointing that it wasn’t an Onsen, but the bath area was clean, spacious, and excellent. Everyone at the Ryokan was very kind and helpful, so we left truly satisfied.     The meals are absolutely delicious.

    We truly enjoyed both breakfast and dinner—they were delicious. The number of dishes and the quality exceeded our expectations, and we were surprised to be served abalone. We were a little disappointed that it wasn’t clear whether the bath was an Onsen, as there was no information about its benefits. The music during the meal (Mariya Takeuchi and Tatsuro Yamashita) was also great.

    Morning Drama Ghostly Journey

    We stayed as two women in the Sumire Room. The room was spacious, clean, and incredibly comfortable with Asada Mao's Wear Weave bedding. Amenities were by Mikimoto, and the hairdryer was a Panasonic Ionity. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. Dinner BGM featured Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi, with CDs and merchandise available for purchase. Everything about this accommodation was cozy, making us want to stay again. In the morning, there was even shijimi clam soup!

    A historic building ...

    A historic building with architecture that exudes history inside as well. Above all, it boasts an excellent location right in front of Izumo Taisha Shrine. However, the service from the staff leaves something to be desired. The man at the front desk was extremely businesslike; while he did carry our luggage to the Room, he quickly left without explaining anything about it. During check-out, both a man and a woman were chatting away happily and didn’t assist with carrying luggage either. The meals are reasonably tasty. I don’t think the cost-performance is bad, but...

    Exciting Multiple Night Stay!!

    With a traditional charm, the young and energetic staff provided excellent service. We were deeply moved by the numerous items said to be connected to Mariya Takeuchi's family. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were absolutely satisfying. Especially during dinner, the alternating songs of Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi playing softly in the background elevated our comfort to its peak. Being close to Izumo Taisha Shrine allowed us to visit both in the morning and evening. Even amidst an earthquake warning, we felt no tremors at all—perhaps thanks to divine blessings—making our stay at Takenoya truly remarkable!

    Delicious cuisine

    A historic Ryokan located right in front of the main gate of Izumo Taisha, famously known as the family home of Mariya Takeuchi. The location, history, and unique story make for an exceptional travel experience. The atmosphere of the building is wonderful, and the food was absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced without being too strong, offering a harmonious blend of various tastes and ingredients. While the bath may not be an Onsen, overall satisfaction is very high. Highly recommended!

    I love this accommodation.

    A prestigious Ryokan located just near Izumo Taisha. My first stay was during my visit to Izumo for an early morning prayer, and everything from the location to the atmosphere of the Ryokan, and most importantly, the cuisine, was exceptional. The dinner time accompanied by music from Maria and Tatsuro is absolutely delightful. I would love to stay here again next year!

    It was a dream come ...

    It was a dream come true to visit Izumo Taisha, blessed with perfect weather for an amazing trip. We stayed at the historic Ryokan "Takenoya Ryokan." Everything was wonderful. Historic accommodations truly have a unique charm. Although it was an automatic coffee maker, the complimentary coffee and coffee latte were freshly ground on the spot, offering incredible aroma—possibly the best coffee I've ever had. Of course, I bought "Crane & Turtle" coffee beans to take home!
