    Always used for business trips.

    I stay here every year when I’m in town for work. The food is delicious, and the staff are always welcoming, so I keep coming back every time. I look forward to staying again next time. (I’ll be sure to visit even when it’s not for work!)

    Fresh every time you visit!

    I stay at “Pinon” twice a year and have visited more than 10 times! The always-smiling staff and the breakfast and dinner are a real pleasure—truly the best hospitality. Every time, it feels like coming home. I’ve already made my next Reservation, and I’m looking forward to it.

    An accommodation that satisfies in every way—Onsen, dining, and hospitality

    This Hotel has the atmosphere of a small auberge. Once again, I was comforted by the warm hospitality of the staff. Many of them spoke to us in a friendly way, and we naturally ended up chatting, which made for a very pleasant stay. The private bath was easy to use, and we were able to relax and fully enjoy Ikaho’s Onsen. For dinner, we chose the premium course. It was French cuisine that you can enjoy without formality, yet you could really feel the care taken with the ingredients—every dish was delicious. The foie gras and Joshu beef were especially memorable. With this level of service, dining, and Onsen, I felt the Accommodation Fee was not just reasonable but exceptionally good value. It’s easy to see why so many guests return—this is truly a wonderful Accommodation. Also recently, a community bus stop called “Chirorin-zaka” has been added right in front of the Accommodation, and Suica can be used as well. The buses don’t run very frequently, but it’s extremely convenient when heading to the stone steps area or toward the bus terminal, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Since the weather was nice this time, we took a Hiace-style community bus from here and went as far as the Ikaho Ropeway. The view from the summit was fantastic—highly recommended. This Accommodation offers all three: warm hospitality, delicious food, and high-quality Onsen. When I visit Ikaho again, I would definitely love to return.

    The food was simply ...

    The food was simply outstanding, and I would love to stay here again the next time I visit Ikaho. For breakfast, I chose the main building buffet; it offered a wide variety of options and everything was delicious. Also, I had the course dinner, and both the tableware and the dishes were wonderful, making for a very enjoyable evening. If I have the chance to stay again, I would definitely like to try a different course as well. Thank you very much!

    It was a very comfor...

    It was a very comfortable Accommodation. The private bath was a little too cool, so it felt cold. That was the only disappointing part. Everything else was great.

    The hot spring water quality and the meals were excellent. All the staff were wonderful.

    We stayed here as a couple. At first, I thought it would be a hassle to manage the four private baths. But once I saw how it worked and actually used them, I was convinced—the system that lets you check availability from your Room is very convenient. The two types of spring water were not harsh, so we could soak slowly and comfortably, which felt wonderful. For dinner, we could order wine pairings to match the course meal, and there was also a great selection of alcoholic drinks. The chef personally came to serve the dishes and greet us, which made the meal even more enjoyable. The Chinese rice porridge for breakfast the next morning was also excellent. After we finished eating, everyone in the kitchen came out to greet us, and we were filled with gratitude as well. From entering at check-in through check-out, every staff member was attentive and courteous, and their hospitality felt truly comforting—we already want to come back again. Next time, I might upgrade the course meal.

    We booked breakfast ...

    We booked breakfast only. We considered the buffet at Matsumotoro, but chose Binon’s Western-style breakfast instead. The croissants were amazingly delicious. The restaurant played Beatles songs, and we enjoyed an elegant breakfast. A bus to the Ikaho Stone Steps departs from Matsumotoro, and we were also able to leave our luggage there, which was very helpful.

    Moved by the staff’s warm and cheerful hospitality.

    Both Pinon and Matsumotoro had wonderfully cheerful staff who spoke to us with such warmth—it truly moved us. When we crossed the road to use the large public bath at Matsumotoro, they also guided us so we could cross safely. Their thoughtfulness and kindness toward everyone, from small children to seniors, made our stay very comfortable. Thank you. We were really looking forward to the Onsen, so it was great to relax in Matsumotoro’s spacious large public bath. It’s also a wonderful memory that we visited all four of Pinon’s private baths (available 24 hours) and enjoyed two different types of spring water. Even after we got home, my husband said his skin still felt moisturized. Dinner was a Western-style course meal. Many guests started at about the same time, and since we usually eat quickly, we often end up waiting for the next dish—but this time the service kept pace perfectly and brought each course promptly, which left a great impression. For breakfast there were three choices: Western-style, Chinese-style, or Matsumotoro’s buffet. We debated between Chinese and Western but chose Western so we could try Yunohana bread. Since Chinese breakfasts are rare and I was very tempted by the Chinese rice porridge, next time I’d like to choose the Chinese breakfast.

    Overall, it was good (with a few minor drawbacks).

    The two types of private Onsen are truly wonderful. The spacious bath on the 8th floor of Matsumotoro was also very pleasant. The highly-rated meals were not bad, but I found the seasoning a bit too strong (especially for the meat dishes), which was disappointing. It might have paired well with rice (I chose bread). The recommended wine set complemented the meal nicely and was delicious. The room felt like a Business Hotel, but the lack of bedside lighting was unexpectedly inconvenient. There is a small desk, but no chair, so it’s not suitable for workcations. Relaxing in the room might be challenging as well. Check-out can be done via an automated payment machine, but I think first-time guests would appreciate explanations about this and small details like amenities such as shower caps available in the lobby. Despite these minor points, considering its convenient location from Tokyo in Ikaho, great cost performance, availability of single rooms, unlimited private Onsen access—this accommodation is excellent for a quick hot spring retreat focused on relaxation and rejuvenation!

    This is truly a wonderful accommodation.

    The premium meal was exceptional, featuring dishes like wagyu beef that made us wonder if such quality could be offered at this price. The salt koji-marinated silk salmon was also incredibly satisfying in portion and taste. Breakfast was equally impressive, with a perfectly cooked omelet and delicious homemade bread. Although we arrived at the restaurant earlier than the scheduled time by mistake, the staff quickly accommodated us without any issues. The private Onsen exceeded our expectations, and it's easy to see why many guests choose to return. In the morning, sunlight streamed in beautifully, allowing us to relax and fully enjoy Ikaho Onsen's serene atmosphere. The pricing is very reasonable for what is offered; this Hotel provides value far beyond its cost. From the manager to all staff members, everyone displayed exceptional hospitality that made our stay truly pleasant. Thanks to their efforts, we had an unforgettable trip to Ikaho Onsen—thank you so much! - The Hotel is located on a slope; while it’s only a few minutes' walk without a car, it involves climbing a steep hill. For those concerned about this, taking a taxi or similar transportation is recommended. - Single rooms require using stairs for half a floor as there’s no elevator access; guests with mobility concerns may prefer other room options. - The Matsumotoro public bath felt average and lacked appeal compared to their outstanding private Onsen facilities.

    It was excellent.

    Dinner was delicious, the Room was clean, and the bed had just the right firmness for a good rest. I think the value for money is excellent. Although breakfast at Matsumotoro was an option, I regret not having it at Pinon. The bath was cold, making it a bit challenging for families to use together.

    Completely satisfied.

    I have been staying here twice a year for the past few years. The accommodation is very comfortable, and I always look forward to arriving in time for lunch—such a treat! The four private family baths are absolutely wonderful. The staff's warm smiles and friendly demeanor, along with their engaging conversations, make the experience even better. Being located on a mountain, the weather and temperature can change quickly (I was surprised by sudden heavy snow this March!), but every visit brings fresh discoveries and enjoyment!

    Private baths are comfortable.

    It felt like a luxury Ryokan. We chose the breakfast buffet at Matsumotoro, and their excellent service for young children made it comfortable for families spanning three generations.

    This is my fourth stay, and it's an accommodation I would love to visit again if given the chance.

    You can enjoy the private onsen as many times as you like if available, and check its availability conveniently from your room's device. If you prefer a larger bath, you can also use the main building's Matsumotoro large public bath. The meals are a fusion of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine, offering excellent taste that might even be worth visiting just for dining. Additionally, it is relatively easy to make a reservation here, which is very convenient.

    This Hotel, positioned as an annex of Matsumotoro, offers great value for money. Guests can use the large public bath and breakfast facilities at the main building, while the basement features four exclusive baths. It’s a Hotel I would love to stay at again.

    Enjoy a Bathing Paradise in Ikaho

    I have been enjoying onsens all over Japan, but Gunma's onsens are truly exceptional. This is my second stay at "Pinon," and I am thoroughly satisfied with the large bath at Matsumotoro and the private baths at Pinon. - The room feels slightly old but is clean. - The meals are a mix of Japanese and Western styles, offering good value for the price—I'd rate it above average. - There are four private baths, each unique and enjoyable. Overall, this accommodation offers great value as a hotel for enjoying onsen baths.

    The Onsen was excellent, but the meals were...

    I chose this accommodation for a one-night stay due to its high rating on IKYU. 【Positive Points】 - All four private Onsen baths are available for free, 24 hours a day. There are two types of spring quality, with two baths each, making a total of four. Each bath has its own unique atmosphere, allowing you to fully enjoy the Onsen experience. The baths were very clean, and the tablet in the room made it easy to check availability—very convenient! Highly recommended for couples or families. - You can also use the large public bath and observation bath at a nearby affiliated hotel just about 2 minutes away on foot, which makes the Onsen experience even more satisfying. - The room I stayed in was designed for one person but was spacious enough to comfortably fit a semi-double bed without feeling cramped at all. 【Negative Points】 - Although IKYU rated their meals highly, I personally found them underwhelming. Considering how reasonably priced this accommodation is, I appreciate their effort in offering course meals; however, as someone accustomed to fine dining at my age, I felt that dishes like the curry-flavored vegetable soup resembled home cooking and that the main beef dish lacked flavor quality. Personally, I think reducing one main dish and focusing on improving overall quality would be better. That said, younger guests might find it delightful to enjoy such courses at this price point—it’s all subjective after all! This is just my personal opinion. - What disappointed me most was how quickly meals were served during dinner service: appetizers followed by soup, fish dish, granité palate cleanser, meat dish then dessert with drinks—all completed within 45 minutes from start! While I'd have preferred enjoying each course leisurely at my own pace instead of being rushed through what seemed like pre-scheduled serving times (some dishes even arrived slightly cold), it gave off an impression staff wanted things wrapped up early—which could benefit from improvement. Overall verdict: Ideal if you're looking for affordable enjoyment combining both bathing facilities & dining options; however discerning guests prioritizing taste or attentive service may feel unsatisfied here overall!

    Heart-pounding excitement, joyful anticipation.

    This is my 9th night staying here since I first visited. It has become my regular accommodation, and I plan trips here twice a year. Once the reservation is confirmed, as the title suggests, I feel excited and thrilled. This year again, I am grateful for the staff's smiles and their attentive care! On the last day... we were surprised by unexpected heavy snow! The manager and staff cleared the snow with smiles on their faces, including removing snow from our car. The manager's thoughtful consideration to ensure we felt at ease allowed us to return home safely. I am filled with gratitude once again for the Matsumotoro Group's excellent ability to handle sudden incidents promptly. Thank you very much!

    I feel like staying at Hotel Matsumotoro.

    The Western-style building is very charming and beautifully incorporates overseas culture. The restaurant has a calm and lovely atmosphere. There are multiple private open-air baths, each offering a unique experience. Although the restaurant staff and reception lacked smiles, the meals were excellent. Guests can also use the baths at Hotel Matsumotoro, where the bellboys, receptionists, and all staff warmly welcomed us with smiles, creating a very pleasant impression.

    Recommended Stays for a Solo Onsen Trip

    I have stayed here many times. In Ikaho, I have stayed at several properties with rooms that have open-air baths, but if you want to enjoy Ikaho's golden hot springs and delicious meals at a good cost-performance, this is the best. The hotel is small and the rooms are narrow, but the four private baths available 24 hours a day if vacant and the delicious meals provide satisfaction. While many properties offer meals that look luxurious at first glance, I like that there are many handmade dishes here. Some places offer dishes that look overly luxurious, with grandiose names, but just pour sauce over ready-made products. Such properties are disappointing. That's why this is my favorite. The chef and all the staff are pleasant, and it's a comfortable property. I will visit again. Thank you.

    Good!

    I used it several times before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was my first time in a while. The meals were served at the right timing every time, without fail. I was satisfied with the Onsen in collaboration with Matsumotoro, but the footwear provided for the round trip was setta (zori), and the straps were hard, which hurt my feet. I hope this can be improved.

    It was a property friendly for solo travelers.

    Traveling alone can sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable, but this Stays had friendly staff and I was able to spend my time very comfortably. I often find myself with too much free time, but with a variety of Onsen and access to the Facility at the main building, Matsumotoro, I had a fulfilling holiday. However, it was unfortunate that there was a constant sound of water flowing, either from the Room's air conditioning or from outside, which was quite noticeable. The transportation from Tokyo is convenient, and I would like to use it again.

    A hidden inn that does not disappoint expectations

    Twice a year... I look forward to it, and each time, the staff's hospitality and attention to detail everywhere is a delight. Above all, the high level of the meals is one of the pleasures. This time, too, I savored the menu as I had hoped and had a fulfilling trip. Thank you very much.
