    We had a comfortable stay!

The entrance gate is magnificent—I could really feel the history and prestige. Our guest Room was a Japanese-style Room, and it had plenty of space for our family of three. It was also nice that they provided a power strip to make up for the lack of outlets, which is common in Japanese-style Rooms. The service was polite, and the staff were attentive, which left a great impression. The Onsen bath was natural and felt wonderful, but I found it a little lacking since there was only one open-air bath in addition to the indoor bath and sauna. We only had breakfast; being able to choose what we liked from the buffet was great, but compared with other Accommodations, the selection felt somewhat limited. The food tasted good. Overall, I have no real complaints—just minor points—so we were satisfied. I’d love to stay here again when we visit Kochi.

    It’s undeniably a bit dated.

The Room was spacious and comfortable, but all the Facility amenities were outdated, so I wouldn’t consider staying again.

    Long-established Ryokan

Thank you for taking care of us during our stay. We felt it was a refined and wonderful Ryokan. However, the large public bath was very dark, and we were disappointed with the cleaning of the floor—especially around the shower area—as it seemed somewhat careless. The changing room, on the other hand, was bright and clean. We booked a plan with breakfast only, and it was excellent and very enjoyable. If only the bath could be improved, we would definitely like to stay again next time. Thank you very much!

Although this long-established Ryokan has some older areas, the location was convenient and the meals were generous, so we were satisfied. It was disappointing that the souvenir shop had short opening hours and was closed in the morning. Is there a parking fee for guests staying overnight?

The only Onsen Accommodation in Kochi City

This Accommodation stands on the former residence site of the Tosa Domain lord and offers a refined, prestigious atmosphere. It is the only Accommodation in Kochi City with a natural Onsen and also features an open-air bath. Major attractions in Kochi City—such as Kochi Castle, the Kochi Castle Museum of History, the Kochi Prefectural Literary Museum, and Hirome Market—are all within walking distance, making it very convenient for sightseeing.

    No return visit.

Despite the Accommodation fee not being cheap, the service is also not good. There is no bottled water in the Room, and for some reason PASMO cannot be used when buying drinks from the vending machine. It is hard to believe this is the level of service in today’s tourism industry.

    Your First Trip to Shikoku

The layout inside the building was complicated, so even after hearing the explanation at the front desk, I was confused the first time I went to the baths. The meals were very delicious, and the seared bonito sashimi was outstanding—I ordered an extra portion.

    The facilities are old.

The toilet and in-room Facilities are outdated. The meals were also underwhelming, and the young staff member in charge of dining was unable to provide explanations.

It had the atmosphere of a long-established Ryokan, and it was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, and the Room was kept very clean. It’s also within walking distance of the downtown area, which is convenient. If I had to mention a few minor issues: there is a beautiful courtyard, but (maybe only on the day I stayed) a watering hose was left out the whole time; I would like towels to be provided in the large public bath; and since both morning bathing and breakfast are only available until 9:00, it would be more relaxing if one of them could be extended a bit later.

    The bath is amazing.

The open-air bath was also excellent. I would like to stay here again.

As I was staying with a smoker, we chose a smoking Room. The smell was not much of an issue, and although it was a cold day, the large window allowed us to ventilate the Room. The Room was a traditional Japanese-style room, but the temperature was comfortable. The Onsen open-air bath was excellent, and we had a very pleasant stay. Breakfast was also delicious.

    A historic and tranquil accommodation

Had a relaxing time at this historic accommodation. The onsen was great, and the open-air bath had a charming atmosphere. Conveniently located in the city! Truly an excellent accommodation!

The bath was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and I had a pleasant stay. Thank you for kindly assisting with calling a taxi and handling my forgotten items, as well as accommodating all my requests with great care. I truly appreciate it. If I visit Kochi again, I will definitely stay here.

We were able to enjoy Kochi at a leisurely pace. We had a Multiple Night Stay, and we were very pleased with the thoughtful consideration for the second night's dinner. We left saying we'd love to stay again.

It was a sudden decision, but

The Hotel had a charming atmosphere and the Room was a smoking Room, but there was no noticeable smell. I also visited the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, making it a fulfilling trip. The staff's service was very satisfying.

The Charm of the Castle Town

Since visiting Kochi Castle was my primary goal, Sansuien's location and atmosphere were perfect, and I was very satisfied. The natural Onsen was gentle on the skin, and I enjoyed it leisurely both in the evening and morning. There were also dining options nearby, and the Kochi-style bonito dishes were so delicious that they left a lasting impression like never before. I plan to organize the photos I took and share them with friends on Facebook and Instagram.

It was a smoking-allowed Room, but there were no issues.

Other reviews mentioned that smoking rooms had a strong smell, but I did not notice it much. I am a non-smoker myself and think the spread of electronic cigarettes might have reduced the odor. The bath had proper onsen-quality water, and I found it wonderful that the hallway leading to it featured explanations about the history of the Yamauchi family in a way even children could easily understand.

An established inn with a rich history, but...

It is an established Ryokan with a long history, but it feels large and somewhat rough. It is not suitable for those who prefer quiet and cozy accommodations. The meals are decent, but they did not suit my personal taste.

    It was comfortable.

It was conveniently located near the market, Obiyamachi, and Kochi Castle, making it easy to get around. The Onsen was very relaxing and felt great. Breakfast offered a variety of Kochi specialties and was very delicious. I’d like to stay again.

Rediscover the Charm of a Long-Established Inn

Our first visit to Kochi was a trip with five people, including our grandchild. We didn’t have high expectations, but this accommodation, situated on the site of Lord Yodo’s former residence, is a blend between a hotel and a ryokan with historical significance. In the lobby, an elderly gentleman in a proper tie attentively greeted us and guided us politely. In an era where staff shortages are common, it was refreshing to experience the hospitality of such an established place again. The magnificent garden and spacious onsen were delightful. The morning bath was exceptional. Our room in the new building was clean, comfortable, and left no room for complaints. For dinner, we decided to go out to enjoy some bonito near Harimaya Bridge since we were already there. Stepping out through the grand gate offered a view of Kochi Castle beautifully lit up at night. The breakfast was somewhat ordinary; perhaps it could use more creativity. However, overall we were extremely satisfied with our stay—it’s even better than what IKYU.com photos show! The Makino Botanical Garden was absolutely stunning as well; if given another chance to visit Kochi again, we would definitely return here. Truly, travel experiences depend greatly on your accommodation!

    Though I had high expectations.

Arrived by rental car, but the guidance felt indifferent. Even though I currently have a broken bone, no assistance was offered with my luggage... Is that how it usually is?

    With grandchildren visiting from Tokyo

We stayed at the accommodation with our grandchildren visiting from Tokyo. We had five grandchildren with us: 7-year-old twins and local grandchildren aged 14 and 11. The kids love onsen, so we went twice. We only ordered breakfast, which had a wide variety of options, including local apple juice and coffee milk. This time, it was summer vacation, but we were able to stay at a reasonable price and even received fireworks—thank you very much! It reminded me of about 20 years ago when I used to enjoy the onsen alone during the day in my younger days.

    Accommodation associated with Yodo Yamauchi

Located on historic grounds with features such as a samurai-era townhouse and gate, we chose this accommodation in Kochi. It is within walking distance of Kochi Castle, offering a nostalgic yet clean atmosphere. The staff were all very kind. The onsen exceeded expectations with its spaciousness, allowing for a relaxing experience. Complimentary yuzu juice was available in the lobby and bath area, which was delicious. While we went out for dinner, we had breakfast at the accommodation. The selection featured local specialties from Kochi and was replenished smoothly—very satisfying overall. After check-out, we asked if they could hold our luggage for about an hour while we explored the area, and they kindly agreed, which was incredibly helpful.

    Excellent Accommodation

I had a very pleasant stay at this historic accommodation with its impressive entrance. The interior was clean, and the simple room was comfortable. The location is excellent, making it an ideal base for sightseeing. The onsen was very relaxing and soothing. While the stones in the open-air bath were too hot during the day to linger comfortably, it became cooler at night, allowing for a truly enjoyable experience.

The warmest welcome from our front desk staff

The parking staff provided clear guidance. The reception staff were kind and courteous, making the experience pleasant from the start. The guest room felt a bit dated, but it was well-equipped with amenities, and the bathroom was clean and comfortable. Having not only water but also yuzu tea available was a nice touch. The welcome drink and post-bath refreshments added to the enjoyable experience. The farewell was polite, making it a Hotel I would like to visit again.

    A Historical Accommodation

The twin smoking Room felt a bit dated, especially the plumbing. However, being able to smoke in the Room was very convenient for my heavy-smoker husband. As a woman, I appreciated that the large public bath offered Kose Predia and Lux shampoo and conditioner. It would leave an even better impression if more effort were put into amenities in the changing area. The location of the Hotel was perfect for taking walks around the area.
