    True to its “Sky Bath” tagline, the view from the rooftop open-air bath was spectacular. I heard the name “Hakkeien” comes from the eight scenic views you can see from here. This Sky Bath alone is worth coming back for.\n\nThe breakfast buffet was flawless—both taste and variety were top-tier. Trying to eat everything would be reckless.\n\nOn the other hand, dinner portions were a bit smaller than expected; I left about 80% full. Everything tasted great, with no complaints about flavor.\n\nHowever, there were a few details where I strongly felt management should Clear their mindset (as these points fall behind others), so I’ll note them here:\n(1) The wallpaper near the Room entrance area was peeling.\n(2) The sliding door in the Room was torn and had a hole.\nThese (1) and (2) seriously downgrade the Accommodation’s image and are unacceptable.\n(3) The bottles of toner, emulsion, and cleansing product provided at the Room sink looked quite old and grimy, with partially used contents left inside. This also creates an unclean impression and should be stopped. Normally, if you provide bottles, they should be refilled to full every day. If that isn’t possible, they should be replaced with single-use sachets.\n\nThe staff were pleasant and clearly working hard, but (1), (2), and (3) undermine all of that.\n\nLastly, on a personal note, I’d like to return.

    Recommended great-value Accommodation

    • Guest Rooms The Room wasn’t new, but it was very clean and comfortable. • Service The staff who assisted us during meals were pleasant—polished yet friendly. • Onsen The open-air bath with a view of Mt. Fuji was amazing! The in-room bath was also very comfortable. • Facility The relaxation room on the first floor was dark and a bit scary. Otherwise, no issues. • Meals Truly delicious. Even my partner, who is picky about food, was very satisfied. The portions were just right. I’d happily return just for the meals.

    Great value for the price and highly satisfying.

    We used a twin room for two people. When used by two, there was almost no space to put luggage, so it felt quite cramped. It was to the point where we had no choice but to place our luggage on the floor. I recommend that guests bring one leisure sheet themselves. What I’d like the Hotel to improve is providing something like a folding table or luggage rack where you can place your bags—it would help a lot. The view outside the window had a clear view of Mt. Fuji and was amazing. You can also see Mt. Fuji from the rooftop bath. The rooftop bath is simply outstanding. Perhaps because it’s an older Hotel design, there are stairs right at the main entrance, which was tough with lots of luggage. It would be great if this could be improved as well. Overall, satisfaction for the price is very high. I plan to stay again next time.

    The view of Mt. Fuji is wonderful, but...

    I found this place while looking for an Onsen area near a hospital, as I had some health concerns. The staff were friendly and attentive—neither too much nor too little. Thank you very much. However, the Facility was quite disappointing. I understand that it’s old, but the plumbing was in very poor condition, and there were areas in the Room where stains and peeling were left as they were. The air conditioner was also broken—the cover wouldn’t close. I thought I had chosen one of the larger, nicer Rooms, but it didn’t meet my expectations. At the very least, I feel the plumbing should be renovated, and dirty or broken parts should be repaired. As for the meals, I saw them as simply something to fill me up. The bath had a great view and felt wonderful. At night there was a full moon, and in the morning Mt. Fuji was beautiful. However, it was disappointing that the sauna is only available until 21:00 and that the water smelled slightly of chlorine. I know it may be unfair to complain given how inexpensive it is, but honestly, I don’t think I would return. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Recommended for guests traveling with their dogs.

    A pet Hotel is available free of charge. It is located inside the property, and you can leave your key with us for peace of mind. The staff are friendly and helpful. The building feels a bit retro, but the Onsen was great.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    The room was a detached Room. Both the Room and the open-air bath were spacious and very satisfying. However, it required walking a bit on an uncovered slope to reach the main building, which made it challenging to go for meals or to the large public bath. Fortunately, we had good weather, so it wasn’t a major issue, but if there had been cold rain, moving around would have been difficult. Check-in took quite some time as there was no one organizing the line, making it unclear where to queue; some guests who arrived later ended up checking in first. As for dinner, the portions were generous and satisfying, but the seasoning was quite strong.

    Depending on the Roo...

    Depending on the Room, you can enjoy a view of Mt. Fuji, even from the bathtub, offering a luxurious experience. The meals are delicious, and you can enjoy a breakfast buffet as well. However, the lack of USB ports is slightly inconvenient.

    This time, unlike in...

    This time, unlike in summer, we were able to enjoy a view of Mt. Fuji, and the bath area was lively, which felt like its ideal state. However, it was quite disruptive as small children were running around and shouting in the bath area. Additionally, I noticed nearly 10 people entering the changing room with their slippers on during my stay. It might be helpful to have some patrols or notices near the entrance regarding this matter. I look forward to staying again in the future.

    Mount Fuji is the best!

    The view of Mount Fuji from both the room and the infinity Onsen was amazing. Breakfast was a buffet, which was great, but dinner was not. I was worried about my picky daughter, but she enjoyed two servings of cream stew pie and was satisfied.

    Points of Interest

    This was my first stay. As the name suggests, the Hotel offers a great location with beautiful views of Mt. Fuji from anywhere and nice baths. However, I was concerned about the overly formal attitude of the man at the parking lot. Despite having many bags, I was told to take them to where the cart was located myself, which I found surprising as it would be normal to offer help in such situations. Although he helped after I asked, his silent assistance left a terrible first impression upon arrival at the Hotel. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll use this Hotel again.

    I was able to relax and enjoy my time.

    This trip was a girls' getaway with friends. It was an accommodation where single-use rooms were available even in an onsen area. Being able to relax in the room is essential for relieving daily fatigue, and this accommodation perfectly met that condition. Shuttle service from Izu-Nagaoka Station was also provided, which is very convenient for female travelers. After check-in, we chose our favorite yukata and enjoyed a welcome drink in the lobby. Although Mount Fuji should have been visible, unfortunately, it was cloudy. Hoping for clear skies, we headed to our room. The room was a twin room with the TV, desk, and switches conveniently placed for easy use. The temperature of the room was just right, allowing us to relax immediately. The large public bath is located on the 6th floor and has lockers with keys in the changing area for secure use. Due to strong winds, the temperature of the outdoor bath water was slightly lower but still comfortable enough to enjoy a leisurely soak. For dinner, we had grilled abalone steak style, simmered kinmedai (golden eye snapper), melt-in-your-mouth tuna sashimi along with squid and shrimp dishes. Freshly cooked chestnut rice prepared before our eyes and creamy shrimp soup baked in a pot were also delightful highlights of our meal. Breakfast featured local specialties such as kamaboko slices (板わさ), Mishima croquettes (三島コロッケ), fried black hanpen fish cakes (黒はんぺんのフライ), offering a full taste of Izu's ingredients. This trip served as a reward after working hard all year long—and it truly felt fulfilling! It was my first visit to Izu Nagaoka Onsen; its high-quality hot springs left such an impression that I would love to return again someday when given another chance!

    Annex Use

    Stayed for one night as a solo guest. The accommodation was available at a very low price. While it’s hard to give a perfect score of 5, the onsen is accessible, and considering the price, it was more than satisfactory.

    Great value for money with a focus on excellent basic services.

    Family Trip: Captivated by the idea of having Mount Fuji all to ourselves. Though a bit far, the clear skies offered an absolutely stunning view. However, being on a steep slope made parking and carrying luggage quite challenging. It would be great if staff could park the car after unloading at the entrance. During dinner, we were informed that bedding would be prepared, but it wasn’t done in time for us to relax afterward. We had to go to the front desk as there was no response from Room 9—no apology was given; instead, they said they'd check with staff! Thankfully, the person who eventually set up our bedding apologized sincerely. Normally, this experience might deter us from returning, but breakfast was exceptional and handmade with care by attentive staff who turned things around for us. Dinner was also delightful except for slightly dry sashimi. Mount Fuji and meals were outstanding—just a little more effort next time!

    The hot spring water is silky smooth and exceptional.

    The front desk staff were very accommodating, and the dinner set was satisfying. The breakfast buffet had a great variety and quality. The Onsen water leaves your skin smooth, truly a beauty-enhancing bath. They compensate for the facility's age with excellent service and cuisine. 4 stars!

    This was my first time using this service.

    Dinner was listed as being served in the Room, but it was actually provided on the second-floor restaurant floor. It might be a good idea to confirm whether in-room dining is available. Other than that, there were no particular issues, and the service was well worth the price. The meal was a course menu with a variety of Japanese and Western dishes, all delicious. The seafood, in particular, had an impeccable taste. I wasn't aware that sauna usage ends at 9 PM, so if you plan to use the sauna, checking in early might be better. The exterior is slightly dated, but the interior is well-maintained. I would like to stay here again if I have another opportunity.

    Highly satisfied.

    The price was affordable, so I honestly didn't have high expectations for the food or the Room, but despite the building being old, the Room and Facility were well-maintained and clean. The food was all delicious. The open-air bath for women is located at a high point, offering a sense of openness! It feels like a traditional Japanese Hotel with heartfelt hospitality, highly recommended.

    The rooftop bath is amazing. You can also see Mount Fuji.

    The bath, especially the open-air bath, is wonderful. The changing room is also clean. Since the Hotel is located on a hill, it’s better to avoid walking outside after check-in. I chose a Plan with breakfast only. It was a buffet, and everything I tried was delicious.

    The meals were excellent.

    The meals and restaurant service were excellent. The staff provided detailed explanations for my elderly mother, which was very thoughtful. The Room was a 15-tatami mat room with an attached Western-style area, and I was satisfied with the spaciousness. However, it was disappointing that the corners were dusty and the tatami mats were worn out. Since I always check cupboards and closets, I would have appreciated more thorough cleaning. It might be difficult for people with dust allergies to stay here.

    The open-air bath offers a great view and includes a sauna, providing a relaxing experience. Both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully prepared with creative touches to enhance the dining experience. The meals were exceptionally delicious. Definitely worth more than the price!

    This is my third stay.

    The cost and environment are good, but other guests (in the second Room from the entrance) were having a party with their door left open. They also left their outdoor shoes scattered around, which was unacceptable. Even in separate accommodations, basic manners should be observed.

    The bath was spacious and pleasant.

    The meals were delicious, and the hospitality was excellent, making for a satisfying stay. While the building is not new, it is well-maintained and clean. The rooftop open-air bath was as expected, offering a stunning view of the town and surrounding mountains. Although spiders build webs in the open-air bath at night (understandable given the mountain location), they are removed by morning. Unfortunately, clouds obscured Mount Fuji from view during our visit to the bath, but we would love to return again!

    Retro Ryokan

    I stayed for three nights with breakfast for one person. If the weather is clear, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from the rooftop open-air bath. The breakfast, including ochazuke, was delicious. It would be convenient if parking were available right in front of the entrance. The property has a retro feel, but I had a comfortable stay. Great value for money.

    I had a great time.

    It was really nice to see Mt. Fuji beautifully from the open-air bath and Room. The meals were also very satisfying, making it a wonderful memory with my family. However, I felt that if Mt. Fuji had not been visible, the joy would have been halved.

    The Onsen and dinner were both excellent.

    This was my first stay, and not only was the open-air bath with a view wonderful, but the dinner was also delicious (the breakfast buffet was quite ordinary). The building is quite old, but the Western-style room in the East Wing that I used was renovated and comfortable. Although it is by no means a luxury property, it was a very satisfying stay. If I had to point out something that caught my attention, it would be the considerable variation in the service level of the staff at the front desk and dining venue. Considering the price, it is nonsensical to expect a high level, but the difference between those who provided excellent service and those who did not was quite noticeable, which felt a bit unfortunate.
