    Please reconsider the guidance.

The grounds are large, but the check-in location is not listed on IKYU, so cars with lost guests drive around and cause traffic congestion. There are no signs guiding you to “The Cottage” check-in. Many accommodations call in advance, but this Hotel did not. It is unreasonable that you cannot reach the check-in desk without researching the website beforehand. At the Forest Villa building we were also kept waiting at check-in; even after telling them many guests were confused and lost, they simply said, “That’s how this place is,” and did not listen. The check-in process also drags on with unnecessary explanations. If they created a clear in-room information leaflet, check-in time could be significantly reduced. We visited as three families with two cars, but only one car can be parked at the cottage. We chose a cottage because it accommodates eight people, yet two of us ended up on sofa beds. Had we known that, we would not have made a Reservation. As for the on-site Shuttle Service bus, there is no internal phone line, so you must call from your own mobile phone, and you cannot book a time slot. Even if you see the bus passing by, they will not let you board unless you called for it. In the end we had to drive our own car to the restaurant and Onsen facilities, which meant we could not enjoy alcohol with dinner. Even during a Multiple Night Stay, you cannot use the Onsen from 9:30 to 14:30; your only option is to pay 500 yen to use an Onsen connected to the pool area. I trusted it because it was listed on IKYU as an Accommodation site I rely on—but I learned that places like this do exist.

    One-night, two-day trip

Our family of four (two adults and two elementary school children) stayed here. We stayed in a cottage and were satisfied with the spacious Room. However, the water pressure when flushing the toilet was weak, and sometimes we had to flush about twice, so we hope this can be improved. Other than that, the meals and bath were great. On our way home, we talked as a family about how we would like to stay again.

    Family Trip

We stayed in the annex for 2 nights and 3 days with my parents, our daughter, and three grandchildren. The annex did not have bathing or dining facilities, but the shuttle bus ran frequently, so it was not much of an inconvenience. The roast beef and bread were outstanding. You can choose from three dining venues offering Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine. For baths, the Forest Building has a variety of options and is highly recommended. There was a bingo event on the last day, and it was very lively. We would like to stay again if we have the opportunity.

Milky White Hot Spring Amid Fresh Green Maple Leaves

I woke up to rain, and in the morning open-air bath, the wet green maple leaves were glistening. Maybe I drank a little too much and ate too much yesterday? Time passed slowly, and I felt truly refreshed. What soothed me most was the smiles of the front desk team and the staff at Banri. Thank you very much.

    It was disappointing...

It was disappointing that getting to the bath and dining area required traveling by bus. I’m also disappointed this wasn’t stated at the time of Reservation—I could have chosen a different Plan. It felt very unhelpful.

    The Onsen is excellent.

Whenever I think of an Onsen, this is the place I choose lately. They offer a variety of Rooms—Japanese-style, Japanese-Western, and this time a Western-style Room—so I enjoy experiencing the differences each stay. I would love to visit again. Regarding the meals at Banri, they felt a little lightly seasoned. I understand you can’t make them stronger for everyone’s taste, so I would appreciate it if you could provide salt and pepper on the table.

    Family Trip

This was our first time visiting Owl Forest, where dogs can stay too. The Room was a bit small, but everything—from the meals and bath to the staff’s service—was excellent. We would love to stay again.

A cozy accommodation surrounded by greenery, where you can fully enjoy Nasu Onsen.

We stayed for two nights in a Room where dogs are welcome. All the staff appeared well-groomed and clean, greeted guests with smiles, and offered bright, clear greetings, so check-in was very pleasant. During our stay, we suddenly needed something that wasn’t sold at the shop, so we consulted a staff member. They responded quickly and courteously without any sign of inconvenience, which truly helped us. The experienced restaurant floor staff always guide us to our seats smoothly and are attentive to our needs and requests, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meals. Other staff members also promptly cleared dishes after politely saying “Excuse me,” which made me feel their service etiquette is well established. The food selection was extensive and everything was delicious. In particular, I appreciated that the live kitchen served steak and fried eggs piping hot. One request: I would like the tuna sashimi to be a bit fattier. The Onsen is a sulfur spring that warms you through to the core, with a pleasant hinoki cypress aroma. The open-air bath has both lukewarm and hotter tubs, so you can bathe according to how you feel. The guest Room was kept very clean, and we were able to spend comfortably with our pet. I would like to stay at this Hotel again.

    The Onsen is excellent.

I love milky Onsen, so the Hinoki bath area at Oriental Garden was outstanding. With four tubs—an indoor sulfur spring bath, a semi-open-air bath, and open-air baths—it never felt crowded, and I could soak in peace. The water temperature was an easy-to-enter 40–41°C. I also went during daylight hours, so the view of the trees was beautiful and truly relaxing. I visited Mori no Yu as well, but I preferred Hinoki and went three times during my stay. I was also happy that I could drink DAKARA from the water dispenser in the changing room. As for Aqua Venus, I didn’t realize the lockers required coins and went without cash, so I gave up and left without using it. I stayed in the Garden Suite building, but having to walk outside partway to get to my Room felt scary for me because I really dislike insects. Next time, I plan to stay at Oriental Garden instead. The Room was a maisonette with high ceilings and felt spacious. It’s old but clean, which was nice. However, there are steep stairs both outside in front of the Room and inside it, so it may not be suitable for elderly guests or small children. As others have mentioned, the front desk staff were very courteous with their explanations at check-in and more attentive than expected—I had assumed it would be a casual Hotel. Inside the property there were ceramics such as Jingdezhen ware and Tang sancai on display along with various paintings, and I also enjoyed seeing glass art at the on-site museum. We ate at Restaurant Banri. It was a Chinese-focused buffet with many delicious options such as Peking duck and steak. Breakfast was just as substantial as dinner, which was great. Both the Onsen and the meals were excellent overall, so I’d like to visit again.

    Fun for Kids

This was our first stay. The large public bath was under renovation, but we were able to use the outdoor pool and also relax in the bath in the annex. The Room felt a bit dated, but it was clean and comfortable enough. The meals offered a good variety of Japanese and Western dishes, including local specialties from Tochigi Prefecture, and our whole family was satisfied. The children were able to unwind freely as well. Next time, we’d like to come back to enjoy the large public bath.

A Family Trip After a Long Time

This was a trip with our dog. Traveling with a dog often comes with hassles, so we had given up on family trips together for a while, but after reading the Reviews we decided to go. The main building was unavailable due to renovations, but that didn’t affect us at all, and our dog seemed to be comfortable as well. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the Accommodation to the building with the Onsen, so it might have been tough in the rain, but we had clear weather this time and were very satisfied to fully enjoy an Onsen rich in sulfur that wasn’t overly hot. We also appreciated the thoughtful amenities at the wash area and the small items provided in the Room. Dinner was Chinese cuisine with many dishes and was enjoyable, though it did cool down quickly. Breakfast offered Japanese-Western options along with Chinese dishes, and we ended up eating too much. We felt grateful for the staff’s considerate care on several occasions, and it became an Accommodation we’d like to use again if we have another opportunity.

    It was comfortable.

I was looking for a place where I could stay with my dog. I stayed at Owl Forest, and the area outside the entrance was spacious and surrounded by nature. I didn’t run into other guests, which made it easy to take my dog for walks—really nice. The bath was roomy, and I used it twice a day, morning and night. I was very satisfied with the sulfur hot spring as well. The facilities are simple but very clean. It was also a nice touch that there were free sports drinks and water in the changing room. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. There was plenty of variety, and everything tasted great. When I’m in Nasu Highlands again, this is a place I’d like to return to.

A sulfur-like odor in the Room...

The Room had a very strong sulfur smell... It was especially bad at night, and I woke up because of the odor. Other than that, the Facility is old, but I’m satisfied with the value for money.

A Hotel You'll Want to Visit Again

This was my first stay, and it was wonderful. The late-night snack and breakfast buffets offered a wide variety of options, and everything was delicious! There were festival-style stalls and projection mapping, which made it a lot of fun.

    It was excellent.

Every staff member, including those from overseas, was genuinely pleasant—so much so that it made me wonder whether the training is extremely strict or it’s simply a very comfortable place to work. The service was truly wonderful. Both the meals and the Facility exceeded expectations for this price; I honestly wondered if it was really okay at this rate. I had been worried by comments saying that because it’s old there might be odors, but there was nothing like that at all. Everything was thoroughly cleaned and very comfortable. The only point where I felt, “This is a casual Hotel,” was that although I mentioned in my notes that this was a birthday trip, there wasn’t anything special in the Room and everything was as usual—this is where it differs from a star-rated Hotel. In any case, it was amazing! I want to come back again soon!

    Traveling with My Mother

The first female front desk staff member provided excellent service. Her explanations were thorough, and her smile was wonderful. Unfortunately, the air conditioner remote had dead batteries, and there were ants in the Room. As my mother is elderly, we felt the Chinese-style dinner was quite oily and more suited to younger guests. The breakfast bread was outstanding. The Onsen was also great, and my mother was very happy. We would like to make a Multiple Night Stay Reservation in autumn. Thank you for a lovely one-night stay.

It was a Hotel I’d love to visit again.

[Overall] The service is outstanding. You can use the baths before check-in; welcome drinks and sweets are available from 14:00; unlimited alcohol and all-you-can-eat snacks from 14:30; morning coffee and other drinks from 6:00 the next day; a takeaway drink is provided at check-out. The staff are pleasant, the Hotel is large enough to keep you entertained, you get 10 free arcade medals, plus free karaoke and table tennis, and more. The value feels almost too good to be true, so overall it’s a perfect 5 stars. [Baths] I used three bath areas: Aqua Venus Wing, Oriental Garden Wing, and Forest Villa Wing. The hinoki bath in the Oriental Garden Wing—said by staff to be the most popular—has sulfur spring water and felt amazing. This was my favorite as well, so 5 stars. [Room] I stayed in a twin Room in the Forest Villa Wing. The Room was spacious with good amenities, but the bed was too firm and there were some stains around the bathroom area, so 3 stars. Still very comfortable overall. [Dining] Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style with well over 50 items by my estimate, plus a live kitchen. Everything tasted great and I was very satisfied. However, there was only one two-person table by the window (and it was in a corner). Even though we lined up before opening, seating was assigned in advance so lining up didn’t matter. The venue also felt cramped and overcrowded, so 4 stars. [Staff & Service] Everyone was kind, polite, and welcoming—nothing to complain about—so 5 stars. [Facilities] Some Facilities seemed unavailable due to construction in the main building, but being able to enjoy three Onsen areas along with amusements—and unlimited drinks/alcohol/snacks—was more than enough. Overall 5 stars.

    The Onsen is amazing!!

This was our second stay. We upgraded to a higher Room category, and the Japanese-Western style Room was very spacious and comfortable. The meals were delicious, and the Onsen is as wonderful as ever. We’re already talking about coming back for another stay.

    The cottage room is freezing!

Stayed at the Owl Forest Cottage. The room was extremely cold, with only a small air conditioner that couldn't heat the cottage properly, even when set to 28°C on full automatic mode. The noise from the air conditioner was also quite loud and unpleasant. The bed had only a thin blanket, so I had to sleep in warm clothing but still woke up multiple times due to the cold. However, the private open-air bath attached to the room had excellent water quality and was satisfying, though it was challenging to use in freezing temperatures as it is located on the terrace. Meals were buffet-style for both dinner and breakfast; while expectations were low, there were plenty of options and the taste barely passed as acceptable. The large public bath was spacious with wonderful hot water. Overall, this accommodation seems worth considering only for its public bath experience—the rooms feel more like camping!

    Thank you for your patronage.

We were warmly welcomed by the smiling front desk staff and had an enjoyable stay. The milky white hinoki bath was absolutely wonderful. I forgot my phone charger, but it was promptly sent to me and arrived the next day. Thank you for the smooth and efficient service!

    Thank you for yesterday.

On January 12th, there was heavy snow, and a kind staff member helped us when we couldn't climb the slope. When our rental car temporarily broke down for some reason, they also kindly assisted us. Thanks to their help, we were able to catch our reserved flight. Although I couldn't get their name, I deeply appreciate their warm support. The meals were also very delicious. I would love to use your services again.

The main building is under renovation, but

I stayed at the Annex building for two nights. The Annex does not have a restaurant or Onsen, so guests are directed to use the main building next door. However, due to renovations, we were transported by bus to another facility. There were two locations for both the Onsen and dining options, and on the second night, we could choose between Chinese or Western cuisine. The bath area was a bit crowded during peak times, making the changing room feel small, but the quality of the hot spring water was excellent. There was also a bingo event that made our stay enjoyable. The staff members were cheerful and friendly. Overall, it was a great experience, and next time I’d like to stay in either the main building or somewhere without needing transportation between facilities.

    The Hotel was very spacious.

We stayed in the Annex as we were able to book adjacent Rooms with my daughter's family. Although it was a bit far from the main building, it was convenient to reach the bath and dining area by shuttle bus. Both the Hinoki Bath and Forest Bath were wonderful. The meals were delicious, and my daughter and grandchildren enjoyed them a lot. With various types of Rooms available and such great baths, I would love to visit again!

Hinoki Bath - The maple leaves were beautiful.

By the end of November, I thought the autumn leaves in Nasu might have already ended. However, the three maple trees visible from the open-air bath were beautifully colored. The soothing hot spring was even more relaxing. "Hinoki bath, a breeze blows, scattering autumn leaves."

    We stayed as a group...

We stayed as a group of two friends. The staff provided courteous assistance over the phone even before our stay, and the hospitality on the day was excellent. The meals offered a wide variety, and we couldn't resist indulging in many options for breakfast. The Onsen was warm, clean, and very pleasant. We would love to visit again when the main building is renovated.

    Exceeded expectations with exceptional satisfaction.

The property is very spacious, with each area having a distinct concept, allowing guests to enjoy various exciting experiences within one Hotel. It felt like being in Huis Ten Bosch. The Onsen was also excellent; we stayed at the Forest Villa but were able to use the Onsen facilities in other areas as well. Being located in Nasu Highlands, the Onsen was naturally exceptional. Additionally, art pieces are displayed throughout the premises, making it enjoyable just to walk around. The Hotel also offers amenities such as table tennis, an arcade, karaoke rooms, a drink bar, and a complimentary snack corner for a fulfilling stay.

    Beyond Expectations

Since it was a "Room Assigned on Arrival Plan," we didn't know the room or restaurant until the day, but the room was spacious with a great view from large windows. The meal turned out to be a Chinese-themed buffet, which was surprisingly authentic and delicious, with tasty desserts as well!

    Subtle

Due to the renovation of the main building, we stayed in the Garden Suite. The hotel has many stairs but no escalators or elevators, which was challenging for my wife who had a foot injury. The bath was spacious and comfortable, but the narrow changing room left a bit of discomfort.
