We stay here every year.
I really love it here. The bath, the buffet meals, the service, and the Room are all excellent. That’s why I come back every year.

We had a relaxing stay.
It was a large Accommodation with many guests. Since it was my first stay, when I entered the entrance I mistakenly thought it was the entrance for day-use bathing and stepped back outside. When I asked, I was told the front desk is further inside. It’s hard to understand, so I think there should be staff at the entrance to greet guests. I felt the bath area was cleaned properly. Towels were also provided, which was helpful. My mother and I agreed that our favorite part was definitely the Onsen! Dinner was buffet-style with a wide selection. It included a king crab course; the crab looked impressive but tasted too salty. I also missed where the curry was placed, which was disappointing. The buffet layout should be improved so items are easier to find and pick up. For some reason, everything tasted salty overall. The staff working in the dining area were unfriendly, and when we finished and left, not a single person said “thank you,” even as we passed by them. Since this trip was with my elderly mother, rather than having an extensive selection, I would prefer fewer items with more focus on flavor quality. After dinner, we took an evening walk outside to see the waterfall area—it was very beautiful and enjoyable. In Room 455, there was a fairly large spider, but my tough mother took care of it for me. There were also hairs on the floor. While lying down near the TV area charging my phone, I got bitten by mites on my arm. I worried about sleeping on the futon beddings, but that seemed fine! Please ensure thorough Room cleaning—especially keeping tatami mats spotless. Overall, considering the cost performance/value for money , we were very satisfied . The shop stayed open late , and we enjoyed being able to use Onsen until late as well . However , for a Ryokan , it didn’t feel hospitable at all . In this industry , hospitality is supposed to be most important , isn’t it ?

Everything was comfortable.
It was a standard Room, but it was well cleaned and comfortable. The sky open-air bath offers a wide view, surrounded by lush greenery, and feels wonderfully open—truly the best. Dinner was delicious. The freshly fried shrimp (jumbo shrimp?) tempura was especially tasty. I had been looking forward to breakfast, and I ended up getting seconds of the salmon roe rice bowl. We arrived around noon, completed check-in, and were able to go to the baths. Of course, Room use starts at 3:00 p.m., but we really appreciated it. Check-out can be done from the Room; you can leave after simply returning the card key. It was a comfortable Accommodation in every way.

If you’re not looking for luxury, it might be a good option.
Guests walk barefoot inside the building, and the buffet dining area can get crowded. The tables are placed close together, and the rooms are standard. It may be fine for families with children, but if older guests want to relax at a leisurely pace, another place might be better. The waterfall, shrine, and koi in the pond are enjoyable.

Super Sento (Overnight Stay)
I’m angry at myself for choosing this place without knowing what it was like. Whether he was part-time or not, the male staff member’s attitude was worse than a convenience store clerk. Inside the Accommodation, there were no slippers, and we had to walk barefoot, which felt unhygienic and unpleasant. Meals were buffet-style, but there weren’t many options, and there were very few Japanese side dishes—something younger guests might be able to overlook. On top of that, despite the limited dining time, the venue was small, and we ended up standing in long lines just to get food. The Onsen was disappointing and smelled strongly of chlorine. Profit-seeking is far too obvious here, and guests are left behind. Considering the price, it’s below even the lowest level. I can only describe it as a “super sento” with basic lodging added on. Is this really at a standard that should be listed on IKYU?

The bath is wonderful.
Perhaps because it was reasonably priced, the Room felt a bit small. The view wasn’t very good, and the Room was dark. The meals were buffet-style; both the variety and taste were average. At the sushi station, an older cook was arguing with a young female staff member, and elsewhere in the kitchen a foreign female staff member was shouting at a male staff member—it left me feeling very uncomfortable. It seems like a very lax workplace culture. The baths are excellent. You can use the open-air bath late at night and early in the morning, and there are many different baths. The staff responsible for cleaning kept everything very clean. Next time, I plan to come only for a day-trip Onsen instead of staying overnight. (There were also many pleasant staff members.)

My expectations were too high based on the information available.
The Onsen was absolutely wonderful. Dinner was served in our Room as an hors d’oeuvre platter and it was very tasty, so I had high expectations for breakfast, but it was average. Thank you for accommodating my request for a Room close to the elevator. However, there was no phone in the Room, and although it said to contact staff by scanning with a smartphone, it wouldn’t connect at all, so I ended up going to the front desk. The air conditioner smelled bad when turned on and I couldn’t tolerate it, so I slept with the window open. Worst of all was how dark the Room was. I stay at many Hotels, but this felt like the dim lighting of an old-fashioned Showa-era Ryokan. Since my eyesight is poor, it was quite uncomfortable. Perhaps higher-priced Rooms are different, but at least please improve the air conditioning and the Room lighting. I visited with high expectations based on strong reviews across various sites, so this was very disappointing.

First Onsen Trip
This was our first Onsen trip, and we invited a couple who have always been very kind to us. We were glad they enjoyed both the meals and the Onsen.

Poor value for money
I made a Reservation without realizing it was part of the Manyo-no-Yu group. I chose a Room with an open-air bath, but there were no shampoo or similar amenities in the Room, so I had to go to the large public bath just to wash my hair (then what is the point of having a bath in the Room?). It makes me question whether this can really be called a guest room with an open-air bath. There is no smoking room inside the Facility, so it doesn’t seem suitable for smokers. The dinner buffet was neither good nor bad, but considering alcohol costs extra, it feels overpriced. Being rushed out exactly at 90 minutes is also unlike other Onsen Accommodations—there was no sense of hospitality. Many of the floor staff are foreigners, but they seemed competent. The breakfast buffet was about on par with a Business Hotel. If you’re using it more like “drop by from nearby for a meal and an Onsen,” it might work, but the cost performance is poor. That’s just how I felt. Overall, this Facility did not match my purpose of relaxing at an Onsen Accommodation.

The food is delicious.
Dinner was a bento-style hors d’oeuvres set, and everything was delicious. I was surprised that the breakfast buffet used plenty of high-quality ingredients, including seafood rice bowls. Pajamas and yukata were prepared on a different floor, which made them hard to find. I appreciated the water dispensers placed throughout the Hotel. It is a very large Hotel, and there are two natural waterfalls behind it.

A retro Showa-era Business Hotel vibe
I stayed for two nights. Because I was leaving by private car, it was very frustrating that the parking gate would not open even after inserting the card I was given. Also, the car body was covered with bird droppings. The gold elevator hall on the 3rd floor smelled musty. When I saw the long line at check-in, I wanted to cancel and go home. The Room was small and dim. It felt like an old-fashioned Showa-era Business Hotel. I do not want to stay again.

The bath was amazing after all.
I enjoyed the Onsen again this time. However, the open-air bath temperature felt a bit high for me; the free-flowing natural spring stone bath was 44°C. The sauna had a TV and was at a great temperature, and the cold bath was excellent as well. The Room is small but functional, very clean, and comfortable. All of the staff were very kind—at check-in I requested a Room near the elevator to the large public bath, and since it wasn’t that close, they kindly changed it for me and also provided an extra pillow. I’m looking forward to my next stay.

It was wonderful that the staff greeted us with a smile when we passed each other in the hallway. The shop had a great variety of canned beer and canned chuhai, and choosing two per person was quite fun. The hors d’oeuvre bento we received at the front desk was different from what I expected—very filling, and it sat a bit heavy on my stomach. It was nice to relax in the Room and enjoy the cool evening breeze. Breakfast also had a wide selection, and I felt refreshed afterward. I piled on bright red salmon roe and made a salmon-and-roe rice bowl. Thank you for offering such a great-value Plan—I really enjoyed the Onsen and had a relaxing stay.

Front desk reception; check-in may be difficult.
Check-in is in the same area as day-use bath guests, so it’s extremely crowded and not relaxing. There are too many people coming and going to unwind. You have to wait with a numbered ticket to check in. You also have to pick up your own yukata and towels. At least the towels should be placed in the Room. The buffet meals also feel very casual. It’s a 2-hour time-slot system, but it’s still very crowded. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone looking for peace and relaxation. It might be fine for groups who want a lively atmosphere, but I don’t think I would return. The only highlight was the Onsen: the spacious rooftop open-air bath felt great.

The Facility itself ...
The Facility itself felt a bit old, but the baths were clean and offered a wide variety, so I was able to enjoy them with satisfaction. For meals, I think you can enjoy the buffet without waiting in line if you go outside peak hours, so overall satisfaction should be high. (This time we went during peak hours and there was a long line, which was fine, but it was disappointing that a few people cut in line and behaved poorly.) Overall, it was an honest Accommodation that offered satisfaction beyond the price.

It’s a large Onsen Hotel, and the Onsen Facility on the top floor was very relaxing. However, the buffet was poorly managed—there were no seats available and long lines formed, which was disappointing.

Perhaps because it was during spring break???
I visited with my daughter, who graduated from high school and will start university this spring. Check-in is available from 15:00 (a very standard 안내). We arrived at Hakone-Yumoto from Shinjuku by Romancecar. Since the weather was nice, we walked to the Accommodation as a stroll. We arrived a little after 15:20, and there was an extremely long line at reception!!! We didn’t get into our Room until after 16:20. One hour just to check in—seriously… Is everything okay? I think it would be better to inform guests in advance that check-in can get very crowded. Because day-trip Onsen users and overnight guests choose yukata in the same area, you can’t really choose… If they happen to have your size, you’re lucky. Rather than “selectable” yukata, you just wear what’s available. The large public bath was kept clean despite the heavy traffic of people coming and going. The water quality was excellent, and we were very satisfied with the bath. Based on the previous day’s check-in situation, we had breakfast first, then checked out early and took our time walking around nearby waterfalls and a shrine. The breakfast buffet was also well stocked, and overall we were mostly satisfied.

I love it.
This was my third stay. Unfortunately, I have four concerns. 1) Dinner is served in two time slots, but breakfast is only served once, so we were seated in a distant area. I felt uneasy about spilling food while carrying it to the table. 2) The tray surface area is small and the plates do not fit well; I would appreciate an improvement. 3) This time, the men’s open-air bath had its view blocked by reed screens, which was disappointing. (I understand this may be related to the nearby road.) 4) There was no basket for used towels inside the men’s changing room, which was confusing. It was located near the elevator hall, but I think adding more signage would make it easier to find. I have written quite a few things above, but I like this Facility and will stay again.

60th Birthday Trip
We stayed here for a trip to celebrate our 60th birthday with four high school friends. The meals were buffet-style, and honestly, we didn’t have high expectations, but the thinly sliced wagyu steak and sashimi were incredibly delicious. For breakfast, we enjoyed making our own seafood rice bowls to our liking, which was very satisfying. The baths were clean, and staff frequently cleaned the changing rooms, allowing us to use them comfortably. Additionally, small thoughtful services like post-bath ice cream and morning Yakult added to the experience. We had a truly enjoyable time and would love to stay here again in the future. Thank you very much!

The breakfast and dinner buffet were satisfactory, though fairly standard. Given that it’s an Onsen Ryokan, I had slightly higher expectations but found it acceptable overall. The seafood rice bowl at breakfast was excellent! I stayed in a room with an open-air bath, which greatly enhanced my satisfaction. If I visit again, I would definitely choose a room with an open-air bath.

So-so
The room and bath were clean and had a sense of cleanliness. However, the customer service was comparable to that of a Business Hotel, with no smiles at all. It felt like a large-scale Ryokan. There was insufficient explanation during check-in. For example, where to find yukata or samue, and when ice or Yakult would be available. The buffet lacked proper guidance despite its variety of menu options such as Japanese food, Western food, desserts, and salads being scattered in different areas, making it difficult to navigate smoothly. It would be better to arrange the layout considering the flow of people or provide a map on each table or an explanation at the buffet reception area. There were plenty of food and drink options available; however: - I wished for hojicha (roasted green tea). - One coffee server is not enough for everyone. - Soy sauce on each table would be convenient (even in small packets). - The desserts were too sweet for my taste. - The miso soup was too thin in flavor. Considering this price range in Hakone, I think you are doing your best overall! Thank you very much!

I really liked it, but just one thing...
This was my first time staying at this accommodation. I absolutely loved the facility and the meals! The grounds even have a waterfall and a shrine, so since I traveled with my elderly mother this time, we didn’t need to go sightseeing elsewhere—everything, including souvenirs, was perfect at Tenseien. The onsen was also great. However, there is one issue: the stairs. First, the parking lot is about three floors up and only accessible by stairs. There’s no elevator, so traveling with my elderly mother made carrying luggage up the stairs quite inconvenient. Additionally, for the onsen as well—you need to climb stairs to access it. Onsen ryokans are used by everyone from small children to elderly guests; this aspect was truly disappointing. While I loved both the facility and meals, unfortunately, it’s not a place I would bring my mother again.

Personal opinions
The guest room was clean and spacious, and I had a satisfactory stay except for the thin futon. The Onsen water quality was not thick, but the private open-air bath in the room offered a pleasant view of waterfalls and greenery. On the other hand, the meals, both breakfast and dinner, were not satisfying (comparable to a Coco's breakfast buffet level).

The bath is amazing!
The bath was excellent as always. However, the round open-air bath felt a bit too hot for me this time. The buffet meals for breakfast and dinner were enjoyable. The omelets at breakfast were delicious, but there was quite a long line with only one chef preparing them. Perhaps having two chefs could improve efficiency?
