    This is an excellent accommodation.

Whenever I visit Mie Prefecture, I always choose Todaya for my Accommodation. The Room is clean, and the Onsen is wonderfully relaxing. The meals are so plentiful and high-quality that I can’t eat another bite! Above all, the staff’s attentiveness and hospitality are perfect. I’ll be staying again next year. I’m already looking forward to it.

    I feel refreshed.

At first glance, the exterior honestly felt a bit old, but the interior is very clean and well maintained. Thoughtful touches—like dressing the alcohol bottles in cute kimono outfits—really stood out. The buffet also offered a wide variety of dishes and was very satisfying. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming with warm smiles, which helped us feel truly refreshed.

My first time back in Toba in decades.

Toba is close by, so it had been a while since I last stayed overnight, but I chose Todaya without hesitation. It was my first stay in decades, and I truly enjoyed Japan’s wonderful spirit of hospitality. What’s more, much of that hospitality came from international staff—their smiles and service were every bit as good as those of Japanese staff. I believe this is thanks to the proprietress’s thorough guidance. The Room was the best one with a great view through an IKYU Plan. From the open-air bath to the stone sauna, it was an all-too-quick one-night stay.

    Not worth the price.

We visited as a group of four (my parents and my daughter and her husband). We informed you at the time of Reservation that one of us uses a wheelchair, but it was clearly not reviewed at all. Since other guests were pulling up in front of the lobby to unload luggage, we also waited our turn so we could help the wheelchair user get out first. A Nepalese female staff member came over, and when we explained the situation, she told us, “Please wait here for a moment,” so we did. Then the Shuttle Service bus driver said, “You’re in the way here—move your car.” Are the staff earpiece intercoms just for show? We placed our disability certificate where it was visible and pointed to it while explaining, but he wouldn’t listen. I was already stunned from the moment we arrived. Even after check-in, they could only give rushed explanations at an extremely fast pace. A rather pushy staff member responded to us and escorted us to our Room, but then they misplaced the luggage we had left in the lobby—again showing poor coordination. They went on with excuse after excuse; it was simply disappointing. Dinner was also full of issues. We had requested an additional menu item in advance, but what arrived had been changed without permission to a dish that cost twice as much as what we had reserved—completely incomprehensible. There was no explanation at all. We assumed what was served must be correct and ended up eating it all without saying anything, but we left unable to feel genuinely satisfied. The buffet venue is small, and unfortunately our timing overlapped with both a large group and a tuna carving show. Inside, there was barely any room to move. People would avoid the wheelchair somewhat, but it still took forever to get through and there were many times we had to give up on things. And Japanese staff would push right through without hesitation. The foreign trainee staff were far more considerate and polite than the Japanese staff—it would be better if others learned from them. This time we splurged on a Room with an open-air bath attached, but as expected, the photos were only for illustration. Overall, considering how expensive it is, the service is not attentive at all. It is absolutely not all-inclusive! We will never return. If you have money to spare—and don’t mind throwing it away—then this might be worth trying; that’s about where this stands for us.

    Highly recommended!

We stayed for two nights with friends on a group trip to visit Ise Jingu Shrine. It feels like a historic Ryokan; the building is old, but the exhibits inside were fascinating and I wished I’d had more time to look around. After arrival, we checked in and were welcomed with complimentary free drinks. Many of the staff were from overseas, but everyone was polite and pleasant. It’s very close to the Kintetsu station, and they kindly offered Shuttle Service since we had luggage. Meals seem to be mainly buffet-style, and there was a yellowfin tuna carving show where we enjoyed freshly sliced sashimi—it was delicious. The other dishes were also thoughtfully prepared. On the second night, we wanted more of a traditional Onsen Ryokan experience, so we switched to a kaiseki dinner. It wasn’t in a private room and the table was a bit small, which was disappointing, but the meal was creative and enjoyable as well. Access to Ise Jingu Shrine was convenient, and Toba Aquarium is also nearby, so we could enjoy it during some extra time before our return train. Because it’s a historic building, it isn’t modern or stylish—but it’s a classic Onsen Ryokan with an old-fashioned charm. Above all, the hospitality is excellent. The service left nothing to be desired! As an extra note, our friends couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful the proprietress was. Overall, it turned into a very enjoyable trip.

The place still reeks of stale nicotine.

A strong nicotine smell lingers throughout the entire property, including the lounge. Is the owner a heavy smoker and simply not bothered by it? It’s a shame, because young staff from 13 countries are working energetically. Their Japanese is excellent and feels natural, and the Japanese staff are also very helpful, but unless everything—carpets, wallpaper, etc.—is replaced, repeat Japanese guests are unlikely to increase.

    We’d love to stay again.

The Room and the meals were excellent. It would have been even better if the Onsen water temperature had been a little higher.

    Highly satisfied!!

We stayed here during Golden Week and were extremely satisfied! There were many guests, and the parking lot was a bit far away, but they came to pick us up in a golf-cart-like vehicle, so it wasn’t a hassle. The building and our Room felt slightly dated, but everything was clean and had a bright atmosphere. They also offered a welcome drink service, which was great for the kids to take a break! One small downside was that dinner at the buffet had a 90-minute limit, so we couldn’t relax for long. However, there was already a huge line in front of the buffet venue before 7:00 p.m., so we understood why the time limit was necessary. (It’s best to enter around before 5:00 p.m.) Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The seafood at dinner (the tuna carving show is a must-see!), the breakfast rice balls (staff make them right in front of you with care), and the fruit punch and apple pie for dessert were unforgettable. On our way to Ise Grand Shrine, our whole family agreed that we’d love to stay at Todaya again when we visit Ise. Thank you very much for providing such wonderful time and memories.

    This is a wonderful Ryokan.

Conveniently located near Toba Station with easy access, the meals were buffet-style, but the live kitchen was excellent, and we were very satisfied to enjoy freshly prepared dishes. The Onsen was a comfortable size and clean, and the Ryokan staff provided very courteous service. We would like to stay here again when visiting the area.

    Overall, very satisfied!

The hospitality and service were excellent, and we had a wonderful time. It’s a place that makes you want to stay again. My only minor negative point is simply my hope that, with a few improvements, it could be a perfect 100/100. Facility: Everything was clean overall, and the Room was also clean, but behind the curtains hadn’t been cleaned. This may just be my habit, but when I enter a Room I check every corner. If even the hidden areas—not just what’s visible—were taken care of, it would have been perfect. Meals: The fish was fresh, the meat was fresh, and everything was delicious overall. If I had to say something, the miso soup was a bit too salty. The seasoning on the bamboo shoots was quite light. The other dishes were so well balanced that it made me wonder why only these two were off. Our third stay at Todaya was truly enjoyable. We’ll be back!!

It was my first time staying here, and it exceeded my expectations.

The Room was spacious and comfortable, and the food selection was extensive. The seafood was very fresh, including the seafood rice bowl, and we were extremely satisfied. We would like to stay again.

This is a Hotel I’d love to stay at again.

This was our first stay. At my 86-year-old mother’s request, we chose the long-established Todaya. We traveled with a preschool child and may have caused some inconvenience, but from check-in to check-out, every staff member was wonderful, making our trip to Toba truly enjoyable. The meals were delicious as well, and next time we would like to book a Multiple Night Stay and relax at the Hotel. Thank you very much.

    Room odor...

This was my first time staying here. The Accommodation was well cleaned, but as soon as I entered the Room, there was a sewage-like, toilet-like odor near the entrance. I have hay fever, but I opened the windows to ventilate; afterward, since the smell in the Room still bothered me, I mentioned it and requested an air purifier. There were deodorizing sprays placed around the Room, so I felt that the staff may already be aware of the odor issue. At dinner, one of the staff members seemed inexperienced—I constantly felt watched, and they almost tried to clear my dishes even though I was clearly still eating. The food was delicious, which made it all the more disappointing.

    There are many disappointing details.

I stayed here this time because it was featured in “100 Selected Hotels and Ryokan in Japan Chosen by Professionals.” Most of the front desk and other staff were foreigners. Basic communication was fine, but there were many instances where I felt there were small mistakes or a lack of attentiveness. Dinner was very delicious, but breakfast was quite ordinary. The open-air bath had a small changing area, and the washing area was outside and cold. There was also no clock, so I couldn’t tell the time and wasn’t able to relax for long. When my child wasn’t feeling well, I asked to borrow a thermometer, but I was surprised to be given a basal body temperature thermometer meant for oral use. These may be minor points, but since my expectations were high, it was a bit disappointing.

    Breakfast was terrible.

Dinner in the Room was delicious, with spiny lobster, steak, abalone, and more, and we also enjoyed the wide variety of baths. However, breakfast was a buffet in the restaurant. We first picked up onigiri made by staff and then took other items before sitting down. As soon as my two children took a bite, they both spit it out at once—and when I tried mine, it was so salty it felt like I had put a lump of salt in my mouth. What’s more, when we picked them up we were told that the “salt onigiri” was recommended, so that is what we chose for our children as well. When I told the person making them that they were far too salty to eat, they looked at me as if they didn’t understand what I meant. All three were like solid salt; even my wife tried them and spat them out. That first bite completely ruined our appetite, and after that my two children and I couldn’t eat breakfast at all. I don’t know whether this is normal for onigiri in Toba or whether there is simply a big difference between their sense of taste and ours—but since this was a Reservation with breakfast included, it wasn’t something we ate for free as a complimentary service. It felt like paying money for a punishment game. It was a breakfast we wouldn’t want to eat even if it were free.

The open-air Onsen in winter was a bit chilly at the washing area, but perhaps because of the cold, it was almost like having a private bath, making it incredibly relaxing. My skin felt smooth afterward. Dinner was buffet-style with delicious sashimi and meat dishes. The Room had a spacious sofa, allowing for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Very satisfied!

Every year, our family spends the New Year in Ise. This year, we chose the long-established Todaya, and among the high New Year rates, it was relatively reasonable. Above all, the staff felt incredibly warm and welcoming. Whether at the lobby, front desk, guest rooms, or dining areas, everyone was attentive and responsive to various requests with a positive attitude. Despite being a busy period with almost full occupancy, such hospitality is possible because of the thorough dedication that comes with being a long-standing accommodation. It’s an accommodation we would love to choose again.

    Delicious and fulfilling meals!

We visited as a group of four: my husband, myself, and our two grandsons (ages 7 and 4, both boys). Upon check-in, our room was upgraded to a larger one, which delighted the kids—they were running around excitedly. At the dinner buffet, the 7-year-old was fascinated by his first-ever fish carving show and exclaimed in amazement at how "thin" the fish bones became. The 4-year-old loved the chocolate fondue with marshmallows and enjoyed covering them generously with chocolate. The next morning at breakfast, he rushed to where the fondue had been only to find it wasn’t available—he was disappointed until we explained it’s only offered during dinner. The staff kindly cut steak into smaller pieces for our grandsons—a thoughtful gesture—and every dish we tried was delicious. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish everything because we were so full! All staff members greeted us warmly with smiles throughout our stay. Despite being kept on edge by our energetic grandsons wherever we went, it turned out to be a fulfilling stay overall. Before breakfast one morning, we enjoyed soaking in a foot bath and taking a walk; during this time, the 7-year-old said he wanted to come back next time for swimming in the pool (we’ve promised him another visit with his parents). This is truly an accommodation I’d recommend to others! One small note: I found the women’s bath in the public hot spring slightly lukewarm for my preference (my husband mentioned that the men’s bath temperature was just right). Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Glad I chose this place.

We used this accommodation for my husband and friends' 60th birthday celebration trip. They were very accommodating with changes in the number of guests and meal adjustments. Additionally, they kindly prepared red celebratory vests for all four of us, allowing us to take the perfect commemorative photo! The meals were luxurious and filling, leaving us completely satisfied. As the one who chose this accommodation, I am extremely pleased with my decision. I'm glad we chose Todaya. Thank you very much!

Thank you for your consideration during our trip with elderly parents.

We decided to travel with our parents and family as we started to feel the passage of time, even though we are still in good health. We chose a Room that accommodates 5 people, offers meals served in the Room, and has an Onsen. On the day of our stay, special arrangements were made for our Room. Thank you very much for your consideration. Including the children, we were all satisfied with the meals and Onsen and returned home with wonderful memories.

    Family Trip

We were upgraded to a Japanese-style suite on the 13th floor and stayed for two nights. The view was excellent, and we enjoyed a spacious room where we could relax comfortably. The meals were different each night during our stay, and every dish was delicious, leaving us completely satisfied. The staff were kind and attentive, taking great care of us. Thank you very much!

We stayed with three generations, including elderly parents and grandchildren.

I was worried because my parents are elderly, but it was easy to move around the facility with a wheelchair. The staff were considerate with meals, and we could relax and enjoy the private open-air bath in our Room without any concerns. It was a wonderful stay that allowed us to forget about daily life and unwind. Thank you to all the staff!

    We chose a room with...

We chose a room with a private open-air bath as we were staying with an infant and a baby. The room had an old, musty smell reminiscent of a grandmother's house. The bath was very dirty (while detergent stains and water spots might be understandable, the noticeable black mold was unpleasant), so we reluctantly used the public bath instead. The public bath was clean, which was good, but it was disappointing as we wanted to relax in the room's bath with our children. The staff were friendly and attentive; however, I noticed that some guests received in-room service from attendants while others did not, which felt inconsistent.

    The meals were delicious.

The buffet was not the typical one with many options but mediocre taste; instead, the seafood sourced locally was exceptionally delicious. The Facility was a bit old and had a maze-like layout, but our family of three could relax and enjoy our stay.

    Traveling with Parents

I planned a trip for my parents. After reading the reviews, I decided on Todaya! I chose a Western-style room with beds. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were delicious and very satisfying. The onsen in the large public bath was excellent! The staff's service was outstanding, and I would love to visit again!

The open-air bath is unique and enjoyable.

The amenities are basic, providing only the essentials. However, for those who don't need luxurious take-home amenities often seen recently, this simplicity makes for a pleasant stay. The open-air bath had a wild and natural charm, making it quite an interesting experience.
