    It was indeed old.

    I had high expectations for this well-known accommodation, but the room key was broken, and there were numerous scratches and fading throughout. The overall environment felt outdated and not comfortable, making it seem not worth the price.

    The Accommodation was satisfactory. Everything else depends on the neighboring guests.

    I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve stayed here, drawn back by the view from the Room and the comfort of the private open-air bath. It even feels like “I’m home” now. This time, with clear skies, it seemed unusually quiet for a weekend, and we were told dinner didn’t require a set time—we could go whenever we liked. That was a first. With the Izu Islands visible far offshore, I enjoyed one soak after another in the in-Room bath, then headed to dinner whenever it suited me. As always, it was an abundant buffet—sashimi, shabu-shabu, Chinese dishes, and snacks—but by now I know what I want, so there’s hardly any hesitation (laugh). As usual, thanks to the attentive staff we fully enjoyed the wonderful hot spring… but unfortunately this time our neighbors were disappointing. I’ll spare the details, but they didn’t seem to consider at all that other guests were just on the other side of a single wooden fence—even though they’re adults. This was also a first for us; still, that kind of thing is simply luck of the draw. Here’s hoping for better luck next time. Lately it feels like more people have discovered how great this place is—the Rooms with open-air baths seem to book up faster than before. So I’ll go ahead and plan my next stay soon.

    Mostly all-inclusive (alcohol not included)

    Visited on the last weekend of November. Dinner was a luxurious buffet with a shabu-shabu base. There were also sashimi and plenty of options for hot pot, including duck, beef, and seafood, leaving us happily full. Breakfast was also a delicious buffet. The Room offered a stunning ocean view, allowing us to enjoy the luxury of listening to the sound of waves. The photo shows the sunrise as seen from the Room. Although there were no private baths in the Facility, it was well-equipped overall. The hairdryer was quite basic and felt slightly lacking, but everything else was highly satisfying. Thank you very much!

    It was an overpriced stay for one night.

    The Room offers a stunning view of Shirahama Beach in Shimoda Bay. It features a balcony, allowing you to enjoy the ocean all to yourself. The sound of the waves is the ultimate hospitality. The large open-air barrel bath was exceptional. Meals, especially breakfast, are incredibly varied with an impressive selection of simmered dishes. However, perhaps due to the price point, the tatami mats are worn out and not suitable for welcoming guests. In the past, its elaborate design likely satisfied many visitors.

    Fun Family Trip

    Our daughter planned our 34th wedding anniversary celebration. The Hotel was absolutely wonderful, and the staff were excellent. The Room had an open-air bath, allowing unlimited use, and the temperature was perfect—no complaints at all. The only downside was that we wanted to go fishing, but it was a bit far away; however, this is not the Hotel's fault. We were very satisfied with the excellent Room and meals.

    The Facility is comfortable, but there are challenges with meals and crowd management.

    I stayed on November 23rd. The facility was well-maintained overall, and while the age of the building was noticeable, I had a comfortable stay. The guest room faced east, allowing me to enjoy the sunrise while relaxing in the private open-air bath, which provided a serene experience. However, there were some concerns. Regarding meals, dinner was served in two buffet sessions. When I arrived at my designated time slot, it was extremely crowded. Popular items like sashimi ran out quickly and took a long time to be replenished, giving an impression of "first come, first served." Overall, the menu seemed more catered towards children. While shabu-shabu was available, there were only about three types of vegetables offered, which left me somewhat dissatisfied. Breakfast had similar issues; dishes that ran out were not replenished promptly, limiting options. Additionally, as breakfast did not have designated time slots like dinner did, I had to wait over 30 minutes just to enter the venue. Implementing measures such as dividing breakfast into sessions could help alleviate congestion. Although I expected crowds due to it being during a holiday weekend's peak day (Saturday), waiting over 30 minutes for breakfast entry was surprising and inconvenient. Many guests likely have plans after checkout; thus addressing this issue would be beneficial. While efforts toward reducing food waste are commendable and appreciated greatly—there seems room for improvement regarding popular dishes prone-to-sell-out fast: perhaps serving them individually-per-table instead-of relying solely upon buffet-style distribution might prevent disappointment caused-by current “first-come-first-served” system observed here today! Lastly concerning public baths: although ambiance within outdoor-bath areas felt pleasant enough—unfortunately elsewhere inside certain sections visible insect remains suggested insufficient cleaning attention paid-thereby detracting slightly-from-overall-experience enjoyed otherwise throughout-stay itself altogether! In conclusion despite some positive aspects noted earlier unfortunately overall satisfaction fell short relative-to-price-point charged leaving impression improvements necessary moving forward!

    There was an issue with the buffet system.

    I chose this Hotel because the photos of the cuisine at the time of Reservation showed kaiseki-style dishes, but on the day, due to it being a long weekend, it was changed to a buffet. While it was indeed noted in the section below the Reservation that Saturdays and certain dates might have a buffet instead, it was disappointing as it was completely different from what was shown in the photos. Although this may partly be due to my lack of attention during Reservation, none of the dishes in the buffet resembled those in the photos. Despite having two seatings for meals, I had to wait 30 minutes even when arriving on time. The next morning, I visited 30 minutes later than my scheduled time but found a long line outside the dining area. By the time we were seated, food replenishment had been minimal and everything was cleared away within about 30 minutes. I never expected such long waits at a Hotel and found both service speed and food replenishment very disappointing. The Room itself was spacious with great views of the ocean from the Hotel.

    I would love to visit this Hotel again.

    We stayed here for a three-generation family trip. While the Facility is a bit old, it was very well-maintained and clean, allowing us to enjoy our stay comfortably. Dinner was a buffet, and any dishes that ran out were quickly replenished, so we could dine with peace of mind. (We lined up 5 minutes before the start time and were seated promptly, but it seemed like those who came later had to wait in line for a bit. We recommend arriving early!) Above all, the staff members were kind and attentive. The cost-performance was excellent, leaving all three generations satisfied. We would love to stay here again! It became a wonderful memory—thank you!

    Front Desk Service

    Thank you for your hospitality during our stay. Although the building was old, it was well-cleaned, and we had a comfortable time. The meals were just the right amount, and the fish was delicious. However, the front desk staff, who was a foreigner, lacked a bit of attentiveness. Keep it up, front desk staff! To the person who replaced the heavy safe due to its malfunction, I hope your back is okay. Thank you very much. The bath was spacious, and overall, it was a pleasant stay.

    The view is spectacular.

    As soon as I entered the Room, the view from the large window was so stunning that it lifted my spirits. It was so beautiful that you might not even be able to tell if it's Hawaii or Okinawa! The meals were buffet-style, featuring favorites like sashimi and crab hot pot, which made the children especially happy.

    Motorcycle Garage

    This was my first time using this accommodation. The motorcycle garage was very helpful. I felt safe staying here. One concern was that the screen I saw during the Reservation mentioned seasonal kaiseki cuisine for dinner, but it turned out to be a buffet instead. However, the seafood dishes were delicious. The view from the Room was fantastic, and I could hear the sound of waves, which made my stay satisfying.

    Stayed with 4 adults.

    My wife had previously visited with her friends and liked it, so this time we brought her parents along. The meals were delicious, the prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent. However, one disappointing aspect was that in the morning, there were many insects in the bath area. Although I washed them away with the shower, there was an unpleasant smell which left a disappointing impression at the end. Other than that, everything else was great!

    Lucky Snake?

    〇 This was our first stay. We enjoyed a relaxing getaway as a couple, spending time at an onsen accommodation with a view of the sea. 〇 Our room had an open-air bath with flowing hot spring water and a view of the ocean. Watching the sunrise was truly breathtaking, especially for us who live in the mountains. We also used the large public bath, which offered stunning views and made us want to soak in it for hours. 〇 Two disappointing points: - The garden attached to our room was overrun with invasive plants. - There was a large snake in the bushes near the open-air bath; while I didn’t mind, my wife found it unsettling. 〇 Meals were buffet-style for both dinner and breakfast, leaving us very full each time. While I thought the quality was average, having shabu-shabu included in a buffet was new to me! 〇 There seemed to be many foreign staff members, but their dedication came through clearly and left no room for complaints. A memorable moment during breakfast was seeing one female staff member gently guiding a little girl by hand while carrying soup or something similar—such a heartwarming sight! Despite some minor issues with our room's condition, we felt that these two days were greatly enhanced by excellent service rather than just facilities alone. Thank you very much!

    Stunning Ocean View

    The top-floor ocean view is like a framed painting. The bath and pool were also excellent. The meals could use some improvement. I wished for sushi, and the sashimi cuts were quite small. For dinner, drinks are ordered individually, so an all-you-can-drink option would be appreciated. I have also stayed at the nearby Juraku accommodation; for buffets, Juraku excels, but for baths and views, Shimoda View Hotel stands out. Deciding where to revisit is a tough choice!

    The End of Summer

    Stayed in an 8th-floor corner suite with a stunning view of Sotoura Beach and a breathtaking sunrise. While descending to the beach was challenging for those in their 70s, the white sand and emerald green sea were truly rewarding. The ocean view from the open-air bath in the early morning was also satisfying. On the second day, our room was cleaned, with fresh sheets and towels provided, which felt refreshing. Being the last weekend of summer vacation, there were many families with children; the buffet was crowded and carrying food to our table was a bit challenging. However, there were plenty of dishes to enjoy—though seniors might prefer kaiseki cuisine instead. The staff at the entrance and dining area were friendly and attentive when serving meals, leaving a positive impression. However, communication issues with foreign staff at reception caused some frustration. The room itself showed its age; for example: - The toilet space felt cramped - The refrigerator was small - No complimentary water service provided - Yukata sizes available were only LL or S It would be better if male/female bath rotations occurred daily rather than morning/evening changes. At night, dealing with numerous stink bugs became troublesome. Although there seemed to be plenty of staff in the dining area, no one was present at the entrance when needed—shuttle service arrangements could use improvement. Despite these points mentioned above, we thoroughly enjoyed both the ocean views and open-air baths during our stay! Escaping Tokyo's intense heat for cool nights made this an unforgettable summer vacation experience—thank you very much!

    It became a wonderful memory.

    We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. The view from the Room and the bath was amazing. Although it is an old Hotel, the Room was clean and comfortable. The meals were varied and very satisfying. During breakfast, when I tried to clear my plate, a staff member kindly said, "Please take it easy today," and quickly cleared it for me. Those words made me so happy—it became a memorable and wonderful trip. Thank you very much!

    Significant discrepancy between the Plan details and reality.

    I stayed at the accommodation attracted by the "Touring Support Plan" for motorcycle touring. The plan details online mentioned various perks for riders, such as "helmet storage in the cloakroom," "lockers for rain gear," and "free rental items." However, upon arrival, when I asked to store my helmet, I was told, "We don't offer that service." Only after I pointed out that it was listed in the plan did they reluctantly agree to store it. Additionally, there was no guidance about rental items afterward. If you're promoting a “Touring Support Plan,” the front desk should proactively ask, “Is there anything we can lend you?” This lack of initiative left a bad impression from the start. The room wasn’t spacious but had an open-air bath on the balcony with beautiful and relaxing views. Watching swallows and butterflies visit the garden added a touch of nature that was enjoyable. However, the layout was inconvenient; with a washing area near the entrance and having to cross through the living space to reach the balcony bath made it less user-friendly. Providing bathrobes could have improved comfort. Breakfast was served buffet-style but disappointing in content. When I asked my companion about their dinner experience, they said they couldn’t recall anything memorable either—indicating little effort put into meals overall. The building itself gave off an old Showa-era ryokan vibe, and even the dining area felt like a typical banquet hall. What saved my stay were two things: enjoying natural scenery from our balcony and one kind staff member at the restaurant whose warm smile left a lasting impression. Overall, there was a significant gap between what was promised in terms of “Touring Support” services and what we actually experienced during our stay. This disparity made for quite a disappointing visit given our initial expectations.

    It was very comfortable!

    Check-in was handled kindly and politely, making for a pleasant experience. The room had an amazing view that left us in awe! We even checked the times for sunrise and sunset to enjoy them from the room or while soaking in the open-air bath. Although the building is old, it has a nostalgic Showa retro vibe throughout, which we found charming. The structure was also intriguing, like a maze, adding to the fun. The buffet meals were astonishingly generous for this accommodation price! There was an impressive variety of sashimi as well as shabu-shabu (pork, beef, fish, vegetables, mushrooms), which truly delighted us. Both Japanese and international staff worked with smiles and great attentiveness—cleaning up spills on buffet tables immediately and keeping everything tidy. Their efforts in learning Japanese language skills and manners must be immense; we were deeply impressed by their dedication alongside the excellent support from Japanese staff. The large communal bath had some insects due to its natural setting but maintained cleanliness despite its age. The steep slope leading to the sea added an adventurous touch—we even spotted a stag beetle along the way while enjoying nature! Access to various beaches was convenient too; no issues with location at all. We’ve decided to return next year and explore different beaches nearby again because our entire family had such a fun and comfortable stay! Other highlights: → Four free washing machines—so helpful! → A sophisticated bar where kids were thrilled to be served cola and melon soda!

    Close to the sea

    The room offers a view of the sea, and it was great to be able to play at the beach and quickly return to take a bath. The washing machine with a dryer was also very convenient. However, other aspects were disappointing, especially the meals. Dinner was offered as a buffet with two time slots (5:30 PM and 7:00 PM), but by 7:00 PM, almost nothing was left, and no additional dishes were brought out. Ending a buffet with "this is all we have" felt unacceptable. Breakfast followed the same pattern—once food ran out, that was it. The dishes were cold, and their quality was quite low overall. The Onsen experience wasn't satisfying either; it felt more like just a regular bath rather than an authentic Onsen experience. Although they advertised an open-air bath with an ocean view, overgrown plants obstructed most of the scenery. Overall, this place does not offer value for its price point. If your main focus is enjoying activities at the beach, I recommend having breakfast and dinner elsewhere instead of relying on this facility's meals. This accommodation is best suited for those who only need a place to bathe and sleep after their day’s activities at the beach or elsewhere nearby.

    Family Trip

    We stayed here for a family trip. This time, we chose this accommodation because we wanted to enjoy tide-pooling, and our conditions were a pool, walking distance to the beach, and a buffet. The hotel has a retro feel, and when we arrived at the entrance by car, the staff came out to help carry our luggage to the lobby. The room was very spacious with an open-air bath attached, offering an amazing ocean view from the room. Although it’s within walking distance to the beach, there are significant ups and downs along the way which can be tiring on your feet. There is shuttle service available nearby but only if you can match its timing. The beach itself was very beautiful with calm waves that seemed safe even for small children. During tide-pooling, we found crabs and hermit crabs—an excellent experience for kids! The meals were served buffet-style; however, many dishes like fried foods were cold and honestly not very tasty. That said, being in Shimoda meant that the sashimi was absolutely delicious! Additionally, many of the dining staff were foreign nationals who provided great service. When I checked out the BAR menu near reception late at night, there was one Japanese staff member sitting at reception who didn’t greet us or look up from their phone—it left a bad impression. Overall though, this hotel’s main appeal lies in its ocean view and proximity to the sea—perfect if those are your priorities!

    Great value for money!

    We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days as a family of five. For those planning to enjoy the beach and pool, this place is perfect. There’s even a small wire on the balcony outside the Room where you can hang swimsuits, making it convenient to have them dry and ready for the next day. The buffet meals offered a variety of options, which kept our kids happy. If I had to point out something, it would be that the menu was almost identical on consecutive days, and during dinner, drinks other than water were not complimentary, which was slightly disappointing.

    Excellent! Meals!

    There is a steep slope to climb, but the location is perfect for swimming as it is very close to the sea. The facility is a bit old, but it’s clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were extremely satisfied! The kids' menu with hand-rolled sushi was impressive! If I may suggest, having a few more towels would be appreciated. This is an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    Unbelievable value for money

    We enjoyed an unbelievably reasonable Plan. The dinner included abalone and spiny lobster at this price, which made us wonder if it was really okay! It exceeded our expectations by far. The staff were all kind, and the view from the Room was simply breathtaking. We definitely want to visit again soon. However, when we went to the breakfast buffet after 8 AM, some items we wanted were out of stock and not replenished afterward, so we deducted one star for that. Everything else was perfect.

    As per the reviews, the view from the room was amazing. The room had an extension cord, which was convenient. The bath was nice as well, but unfortunately, there were many insects at night, making it a rather thrilling experience and hard to relax. The morning bath offered stunning views. However, some parts of the open-air bath were under repair, which was disappointing. Amenities in the bathing area are limited, so please take note. Meals were served buffet-style; breakfast was delicious and very satisfying. However, as others have mentioned about dinner—while tasty—it lacked a sense of cohesion with dishes like Chinese cuisine included randomly. The kinmedai shabu-shabu was truly delicious; having a ladle set for skimming scum would have been even better though. Additionally, there weren’t enough vegetables; more salads or fresh vegetables would be appreciated. The staff members—including many from overseas—were all kind and provided excellent service. Considering the affordable price point we chose this place for, it felt sufficient overall!

    The room was not very clean. The bathroom was average. The meals were small in portion. The view was excellent. It was affordable at around 14,000 yen, so overall, it was acceptable for the price.

    It was great.

    The Facility feels a bit old, but the Room with an open-air bath had a great view, and the staff provided excellent and pleasant service, making our stay very comfortable. (Even the foreign staff and cleaning personnel were sincere and friendly, leaving a positive impression.) We enjoyed a relaxing holiday soaking in the open-air bath while gazing at the ocean. It would have been nice if 2 bottles of water were complimentary instead of being charged.

    It was so relaxing!

    The horizon visible from the Room, the Izu Seven Islands floating there, the chirping of birds and the sound of waves heard while relaxing in the bath... it was truly soothing. The buffet-style yet upscale cuisine was also highly satisfying.

    It has a slightly old feel. The meals were delicious, and the view outside was excellent. It was a very satisfying Hotel. The safe's key was old, making it a bit difficult to open and close.
