Disappointing except for the open-air bath.

I was really looking forward to this Accommodation, but there were many disappointing aspects. Many items at both the dinner and breakfast buffets were surprisingly low in quality. According to my family, the restroom near the buffet area smelled of vomit for both men and women, morning and night. At check-in, the Room window was left wide open—wide enough for a child to get through—so insects could get in, and it felt dangerous with small children, which was very troubling. The Room toilet clogged easily and nearly overflowed, which shocked me. We were only told to be careful because it clogs easily, and there was no response from the Hotel such as changing our Room. The pool had extremely poor manners: both adults and children freely diving in, people entering without rinsing off beach sand, and even an older man washing his dirty beach sandals in the pool... In this situation, I would like them to have at least one staff member stationed there. The large public bath was full of dead insects. It can’t be helped if insects get in, but shouldn’t something be done each time it’s cleaned? Only the open-air bath felt wonderful and was very enjoyable.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. It was great.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It was very good. Above all, the spectacular view from the Room was wonderful. If I were to point out a few minor details, they would be as follows: - The peeling shoji paper in the hallway should be repaired. - Please keep the Room balcony clean. - Please clean the rim of the large public bath tub more thoroughly. - Please provide more attentive guidance in the parking lot. I think it is a good Hotel, and I hope to see further improvements in service. I would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    A disappointing memory

A two-person trip with my 10-year-old grandchild—this Hotel lets you enjoy the beach, the pool, and the Onsen. The location from our Room was wonderful, and since we chose a Room with an open-air bath, we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen as well. However, the entrance of the Room smelled musty, and there was a distinctive bad odor in the toilet, which made it feel like it hadn’t been used for quite some time. The meals we were looking forward to were buffet-style for both dinner and breakfast, but both were very disappointing. Even though it was Izu fish, it had a strong fishy smell; we couldn’t eat and ended up leaving the fish shabu-shabu, ara-jiru (fish soup), or simmered kinmedai. Despite the high ratings in Reviews, I wondered why. The staff service also felt rather impersonal—perhaps because it is such a large Hotel—so I don’t think we will return.

    It wasn’t very good.

The Hotel was not clean, and there were many dead insects in the large public bath, which was disappointing. The Room also smelled, and everything about the stay was disappointing. Only the view was good.

    The view was amazing.

The view from the open-air bath is amazing. The Facility is a bit old, but it is kept very clean. Even during the peak Obon season, we chose a no-meals Plan, and the price was reasonable. For dinner, there is a nearby seafood restaurant, and the spiny lobster tempura rice bowl was delicious. There is quite a steep hill to get to the restaurant and the beach, but the Shuttle Service will take you up to Route 42. However, it only runs until 5:00 PM, so if you drink alcohol at dinner, it’s pretty tough climbing back up the hill afterward. Next year, I’d like to go with a Plan that includes meals.

We were satisfied with everything—the location, the room, and the meals.

This was my first stay, and the location is simply outstanding. From the corner Room, the ocean view was exceptional—like a painting, with Sotoura Beach right in front of you. The dinner buffet we looked forward to was great: each table had its own shabu-shabu pot, and we enjoyed snow crab, kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), sea bream, and more. There were also plenty of options such as grilled turban shell in its shell, assorted sashimi including kinmedai, and a wide variety of Chinese- and Japanese-style dishes—far more than we could finish. For breakfast, there was still a line even when we tried going at a different time, so that may need improvement. However, both the Room and the large public bath with an open-air bath were excellent. Above all, the views are amazing—I enjoyed it so much I went in three times or more. This is a Hotel I would love to visit again.

We strongly do not recommend the buffet.

We stayed here around the same time last year and loved it, so we decided to return. We travel twice a month, and the location, views, and baths here are truly outstanding. However, choosing the buffet this year was a mistake. At first glance, there is a wide variety of dishes and the selection looks luxurious. But the food was so disappointing it was honestly sad. The crab for shabu-shabu had a strong fishy smell—worse than any crab I’ve ever had—the beef was overwhelmingly fatty, and the fried skewers were cold. We will visit again next time during a period when meals are not served buffet-style.

    Couples’ Trip

We took Monday off and stayed one night as a couple. Many of the front desk staff seemed inexperienced, and the service felt rather businesslike. The Room had a great view, and the in-room bath and terrace were nice. However, voices and noise from next door carried through easily. For meals, dinner was a buffet in the large hall, and breakfast was also a buffet in the large hall. It’s understandable since guests tend to rush for items, but many dishes remained out of stock, and dining hours were limited to a single one-hour entry slot, which felt somewhat inconvenient. Given that this is an older Facility that has been used for many years, it may be unavoidable, but overall it felt dated—and that seemed reflected in both the service and the meals.

    Thank you very much.

I was looking forward to the bath, but I was a little disappointed because there were many dead insects and it didn’t seem to be cleaned properly. It was a buffet; popular items ran out quickly, but the food tasted good. The foreign staff in the dining area were very pleasant. Thank you very much.

A great Accommodation that families with children can enjoy. I only hope the location of the smoking area can be improved.

We stayed for two nights. Overall, the pool, Onsen, meals, and the staff’s service were excellent, and we were able to make wonderful family memories. What we especially enjoyed was the heated pool and being able to do fireworks. This was very helpful for families with children, and since it’s close to the beach, it was a great summer destination. Regarding fireworks, it would be even more helpful for families if information about where they can be done were provided more clearly in advance. We were satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. The local splendid alfonsino (kinmedai) was particularly delicious. We usually stay at Accommodations with buffet dining, but this kaiseki-style meal made us appreciate that option as well. The seasoning wasn’t too strong overall; the flavors brought out the natural taste of the ingredients beautifully. The Onsen also felt very clean, and the view from the open-air bath was lovely—we could use it comfortably. The staff were kind and attentive throughout our stay, which made us feel at ease. On the other hand, there are a few points we noticed. The biggest improvement we would like to see is relocating the smoking area currently located in front of the main entrance by reception. With a pool and fireworks available, this Accommodation seems to welcome families with children as well; having guests pass through secondhand smoke at the entrance is very disappointing. We strongly hope this will be reconsidered. We also noticed some visible dust around parts of the Room air-conditioning area, on the ceiling, and near sliding doors (fusuma). While we understand that parts of Facility may feel dated, more thorough cleaning would further improve impressions. As for our Room: our accommodation Plan stated “Shimoda side,” but it wasn’t clear that this meant a non-ocean-view side. Labeling rooms as “mountain side” or “ocean side” would help avoid misunderstandings. This time we felt we would have gladly paid extra for an ocean-side room—the ocean view looked very appealing. Overall, despite a few concerns, everything else—meals, Onsen, pool facilities/amenities (Facility), location, and staff service—was excellent, making this an Accommodation we would like to visit again. Above all else though، we truly hope only one thing will be improved: moving the smoking area for guests traveling with children as well.

We had a very relaxing stay.

I stayed in a room with an open-air bath, and it was very relaxing. What was disappointing was that after 8:00 a.m., many breakfast items were sold out. I would like the missing items to be replenished promptly.

    Honestly, it was tough.

The open-air bath in the Room is not an Onsen. The Onsen in the large public bath was disappointing.

    Good.

It was a buffet, but they offered different drinks and local items at dinner and breakfast, which added variety. I also felt the flow around the small plates and other items could be improved a bit, but it wasn’t overly crowded, so it’s fine if guests just move around a little. They were selling souvenirs, but since they were displayed only in boxes with no samples showing what was inside, I couldn’t decide what to buy. However, the sweets provided in the Room were delicious, so I bought those.

    The food is excellent.

The Hotel building feels a bit dated, but it was well maintained and very clean, so our stay was comfortable. Above all, the food was the best for us in both quality and quantity. Thank you very much. Also, the ocean view from the window was wonderful and refreshing.

    The Room and the vie...

The Room and the view from the Room were both excellent. The meals also looked great and were delicious. Thank you to the staff for welcoming us with warm smiles. What was disappointing was that there was no greeting upon arrival, so it was hard to find where to park and locate the entrance and front desk. Also, the hair dryer in the Room had its air intake clogged with dust, so it only blew weak hot air. Because there is a small banquet area at the entrance to the large public bath, the karaoke noise was loud. It was also disappointing that next door is a ramen shop, which did not feel like an atmosphere where we could enjoy eating ramen.

    Stunning views and exceptional cuisine.

Four old friends and I stayed for one night on a weekend in June. We had an ocean-side Room with an amazing view. I was worried because many Reviews complained about slow food refills, but dishes were replenished promptly whenever they ran out, and the quality exceeded the price. All-you-can-eat crab is often disappointing with thin meat, but this was substantial and impressive. If I have the chance, I will visit again.

We had a very relaxing stay.

The in-room bath was excellent, and my parents who stayed with me were very pleased as well. I was able to relax before going to sleep while listening to the sound of the waves. The large public bath was also great. As it happened, we stayed during a buffet period, so next time I’d like to enjoy a kaiseki meal. True to its name as a view Hotel, the scenery from the Room was wonderful, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. Regarding the Shuttle Service from Shimoda to the Accommodation, it would be even better if it could be coordinated with train schedules. The Saphir train arrived at :31, but departures were on 30-minute intervals, so I reserved the :00 shuttle bus. Since trains are not very frequent, it would be helpful if pickups could be arranged around train arrival times.

    Because the Hotel is...

Because the Hotel is on a hill, the view from our Room overlooking the sea was amazing! Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of options (Japanese, Western, and Chinese), and everything was delicious. The Room and the entire property were very clean, the amenities were well stocked, and all the staff were courteous—making our stay truly comfortable.

This is our favorite Accommodation that we return to again and again across three generations!

Whenever we travel from Hokkaido back to Shimoda, it has become our tradition for my mother, my son, and me to stay here—this Accommodation never disappoints! The ocean view from the Room is absolutely stunning, and the sound of the waves soothes away everyday fatigue. I could watch it forever. The beach is just a short walk away, so I always look forward to a morning stroll the day after we stay. The water is incredibly clear, so I highly recommend seeing it in person. The food is also delicious and changes with the seasons, which makes me want to visit again in other seasons as well. In particular, the main dish—kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) shabu-shabu—was rich and incredibly tasty. It’s easier to enjoy than the typical meat main course you often get in set menus, and it really lets you savor what makes Shimoda special. And breakfast here is amazing!! There are so many carefully prepared dishes, and the seasoning isn’t too strong—so I end up eating a lot. I also love the spiny lobster miso soup. It’s great that they have dragon fruit and such a wide variety of fruit for dessert, plus kiwi sauce for yogurt—it’s such a nice touch. I think this is one of the most varied breakfasts you’ll find anywhere! This time was also my first time using the gym! The machines were simple enough that I think women and beginners can use them easily. Above all else, the reason we keep coming back is because the staff are polite and extremely attentive. Even during meals they spoke kindly to my 4-year-old son, which truly helped us. This Accommodation comes highly recommended—even with children, you can stay with complete peace of mind! There was an unexpected power outage on our stay this time, but we were able to spend our time without any major issues. We definitely want to return again! I’d also love to try out the summer pool next time. Thank you very much.

The Room, the bath, the meals, and all the staff...

We had a wonderful time. The Room has been renovated, and the bed was very comfortable. It was spacious, and although the balcony is small, stepping outside we could quietly hear the sound of the waves at Sotoura Beach, which was very relaxing. The bath was also lovely. However, there are quite a few stairs (only about three steps at a time), so it was a bit difficult for my 87-year-old mother with bad knees, though the hot bath was great. The meals were delicious, and you took such thoughtful care of us. When we left, you kindly explained various souvenirs as well, which made my mother very happy. Thank you very much. We will visit again!

I was soothed by the beautiful view.

They prepared a Room with an open-air bath overlooking the sea. The Hotel felt a bit old, but the Room was lovely, and the ocean view from the window was simply amazing. The meals featured seasonal ingredients, and the sashimi and abalone were especially delicious. Our children enjoyed reading manga in the lobby lounge, and it was a wonderful trip for our family of four.

    Satisfied, but couldn’t sleep.

We enjoyed the delicious food and the scenery. One disappointing point was that the mattress under the futon was extremely thin, so my body hurt and I could hardly sleep. I have never experienced such an uncomfortable futon with a mattress this thin at any other Accommodation. It’s a shame because everything else was great. Since I couldn’t sleep and ended up exhausted, I don’t think I would stay again unless this is improved. I strongly hope you will address this issue.

    A Trip Worth Taking

The ocean view was stunning—so much so that I felt like praising myself for choosing this Accommodation just for the view alone. Every dish at dinner was delicious, and the drinks went down easily (lol). With a great view, an Onsen, and high-quality cuisine all in one place, it goes without saying that the enjoyment of the trip only doubled, leaving me deeply satisfied. That said, one thing I noticed was that there were rather long gaps before the next course was served... For someone like me who was drinking, it wasn’t a problem, but for those who weren’t, I wondered if it might feel like too much waiting. At the time, I couldn’t help but sympathize with the Hotel staff—perhaps they were simply short-handed given how many guests were staying. Still, maybe this pacing is actually part of the concept of enjoying a “small-portion kaiseki” meal at its best—so in hindsight, it may have been just right after all.

    Great value for money.

We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of 2 nights. The building and Facility are indeed old, but everything was kept very clean, and the view from the Room was outstanding. Dinner was a buffet on Saturday and a kaiseki course on Sunday, so we enjoyed it without getting bored. The Saturday buffet in particular was very satisfying, with crab and kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) shabu-shabu, and the Nepalese female server worked very hard and was excellent. The baths were spacious with great views as well—there is nothing to complain about as an Onsen Accommodation. The only thing that bothered us was that the open-air bath on the right side is close to the road leading from the Hotel to the beach, so it felt too exposed. Overall, it offers great value for money. We thought Shimoda being far away would be a downside, but this is an Accommodation we would like to visit again.

    A Great Accommodation

This was my second stay, and this time I could enjoy a stunning view of Kawazu cherry blossoms from the lobby. Together with Sotoura Beach, it truly lived up to the name “Shimoda View” Hotel. Although the Room and bath facilities are old, I was able to relax comfortably. What was disappointing was that, perhaps because there were many guests staying, we had to wait about 20 minutes after being seated before the kaiseki dinner was served, and a foreign staff member kept apologizing profusely to guests. The food was delicious and used premium ingredients such as abalone and spiny lobster, showing great attention to detail, but we could also hear loud voices from the kitchen, and overall the operation did not seem well coordinated. Since some guests do not drink alcohol, I felt that preparing appetizers in advance could help reduce the burden on staff. For breakfast buffet service, we waited behind a few groups at a later time slot, but I appreciated the attentive service provided by the same foreign staff member from dinner.

    Spectacular views

We stayed in a corner Room. From the window, we could see Kawazu cherry blossoms and the emerald-blue sea—an incredibly beautiful, picture-perfect view. The Onsen was quite hot and a bit small. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, but popular items seemed to be first-come, first-served, and it was disappointing that they were not replenished.

    Onsen (Men’s Bath)

In the evening, the bath on the left-hand side (as you face it): the far-right shower at the back left after going down the steps before entering the tub. The shower lever would not move down and could not be used. Sorry for reporting this late. Please check and fix it.

    2 nights, 3 days

The Onsen and Facility ratings are only one star because the room bath was left unclean from the previous guest! There were several long black hairs on the floor, and used shampoo bottles and trash were left near the faucet. It clearly wasn’t cleaned... In the morning, the outdoor baths switch between men’s and women’s use, but I wish they would alternate throughout the day. Since we stayed for two nights, I thought we’d get to enjoy different views from the outdoor bath each day, but that wasn’t possible. From the women’s bath in the morning, you can’t see the sunrise... That’s why I wanted to use our room bath instead, but it wasn’t cleaned either... The view from our room and both large public baths (indoor and outdoor) was great, which made it all more disappointing! Dinner on our first night was a buffet with shabu-shabu prepared nicely. However, we didn’t know there would be crab—it took a while to come out! Even when it did appear, early guests took large portions at once so there were only a few pieces left even if you waited in line. On our second night, we had kaiseki cuisine. The time between courses was quite long; dinner ended up taking nearly two hours—this didn’t suit us well as a family. The ocean was truly beautiful; choosing Shimoda as our destination turned out to be a great decision!

    It was indeed old.

I had high expectations for this well-known accommodation, but the room key was broken, and there were numerous scratches and fading throughout. The overall environment felt outdated and not comfortable, making it seem not worth the price.
