    It was my second vis...

    It was my second visit in 20 years, and I was very satisfied just like the last time. The excellent view, unchanged from before, was the highlight for me. Additionally, many of the staff were young and provided very polite and pleasant service. The only disappointment was that this time meals were served in the dining area instead of in the Room, where surrounding noises and voices were a bit distracting.

    A wonderful accommodation you'll want to visit again and again.

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. Soaking in the onsen while gazing at the ocean melts away daily fatigue and is truly rejuvenating. The sound of the waves lulled me to sleep, and I woke up feeling completely refreshed. The meals are delicious, and the staff are so kind that as soon as I returned home, I found myself wondering when I could visit again... This is a place I hope will remain unchanged forever—a spot I truly love.

    It was excellent!

    The staff provided excellent service, whether at the reception, dining area, or even when passing by or assisting with vehicles. It was a truly pleasant experience. The meals were delicious, and even picky children enjoyed dishes they usually wouldn't eat. The view from the room was stunning, with a beautiful ocean that made the sea breeze hardly noticeable. The bath facilities were also satisfying. This is an accommodation we definitely want to visit again.

    It was excellent!

    We stayed here to celebrate my partner's birthday, who loves surfing. It was great that we could use the parking lot, hot water shower, and board storage even before check-in—very convenient for surfers. After enjoying the ocean to the fullest, we checked in. The ocean view from the private open-air bath in our room was absolutely stunning. Later, we also tried out the large public Onsen to warm up after being chilled by the sea. By 6 PM, we enjoyed a happy hour service at the lobby lounge with discounted drinks! We took an ice-cold draft beer back to our room and enjoyed it while soaking our feet in the open-air bath. The provided waffle-textured loungewear was perfect for relaxing after a bath when you don't feel like putting on a yukata right away. Dinner was something we had been looking forward to—it was a Room Plan meal and everything tasted amazing! As seafood lovers, we indulged in sashimi, Ise lobster hot pot (a specialty of Shimoda), simmered kinmedai fish, and added grilled turban shells as a special birthday treat. The food paired perfectly with sake—we couldn't stop drinking! Full and satisfied, we fell asleep immediately. The next morning started early as we checked out wave conditions from our open-air bath before heading back to surf at Tatadohama Beach—the water quality there is incredible! After about two hours of surfing fun, just like the day before, we warmed up again in our private open-air bath before enjoying another delicious Japanese breakfast served in-room. The dishes were perfectly portioned for adults with gentle seasoning that felt just right. Despite rising rice prices these days due to shortages—such generous servings of rice brought tears of gratitude! Since they left our futon laid out for us after breakfast cleanup time until checkout time arrived—we relaxed further by alternating between lounging on futons or soaking one last time outdoors preparing ourselves mentally/physically ahead long drive returning city life afterward feeling fully recharged thanks everyone working hard providing such wonderful hospitality throughout entire stay experience including pre-check-in assistance luggage handling happy-hour services meal deliveries etcetera all staff members genuinely kind professional creating positive atmosphere reflecting well-managed workplace culture inspiring indeed! Next visit will definitely involve Multiple Night Stay because there wasn’t single unpleasant moment during this trip making unforgettable holiday/birthday celebration possible heartfelt appreciation goes everyone involved thank-you deeply much gratitude expressed sincerely

    Accommodation with a spirit of hospitality

    Upon arrival, we were welcomed with tea and sweets while receiving check-in assistance and an explanation of the facilities on the lobby sofa. Additionally, a staff member escorted us to the Room along with our luggage, showcasing their thoughtful hospitality. For dinner, the signature simmered whole alfonsino was exquisite and incredibly delicious. The view from the Room was stunning, allowing us to enjoy the sound of waves and watch surfers in action.

    It was a hospitable accommodation.

    From check-in to check-out, we had an incredibly pleasant stay. The front desk staff, the Room attendants, and the dining staff all provided exceptional service with warm greetings and attention to detail. The meals featured seasonal dishes, and we were surprised by a large simmered golden-eye snapper served at the end—it was delightful and filling. The Room faced the ocean directly, offering stunning views and more than enough space for two people. Being on the second floor, we could hear the soothing sound of waves, which was truly relaxing. It had been a while since I felt so close to the sea; it made our stay exciting throughout. My husband and I are already talking about coming back with our whole family next time!

    Delight in our exceptional bath and cuisine.

    Since I forgot to fill out the survey at the Ryokan, I would like to leave a review here. I stayed for one night during a solo driving trip. The view from the large public bath was amazing, but the private open-air bath (stone-made) in my room was exceptional with its slight incline that made it comfortable to lie down. Dinner was luxurious with many dishes, so if you have a small appetite, you might want to pace yourself before the main course arrives. Breakfast included a variety of small side dishes and grilled dried fish cooked at your table, which were both visually appealing and delicious. However, it was slightly disappointing that only one 500ml bottle of water was provided in the fridge despite not being allowed to bring food or drinks into the room, and hallway conversations could be heard clearly.

    Delicious, Great View, Relaxing Vacation

    Beautiful white sandy beach with an amazing ocean view. The Facility may be a bit old, but the location and surfer-friendly atmosphere make up for it, offering a pleasant stay. Meals were served at the table, allowing for a relaxed and delicious dining experience with excellent service. The baths were rotated, providing various enjoyable options. If I had to point out something... perhaps the sound of tidying up in the restaurant was slightly noticeable, and there was a faint musty smell in the hallway. I would love to visit again! Great value guaranteed!

    The building itself ...

    The building itself seemed old, but it was well-cleaned, and I had a pleasant stay. The food was overall delicious. When staying at accommodations, the portions are often too large to finish, but this time I was able to enjoy everything. On the other hand, families with growing children might consider ordering additional menu items. As mentioned in other reviews, the staff providing room service were very pleasant, and the reception was attentive as well, making for a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, it rained during my visit; however, the view from the room was beautiful and left a lasting impression. I would love to visit again!

    I don't think I will visit again.

    The staff were all very pleasant, but on the way back, I wondered if it was just an act. Upon arrival, they picked us up with a car since the parking lot is at the bottom of a slope, but on departure, we had to carry our luggage and walk down ourselves. While they are friendly, there is no real hospitality. Additionally, to access the bath, you need to take stairs after getting off the elevator. For the open-air bath, you have to climb even narrower stairs, making it difficult for those with mobility issues. The meals were nothing noteworthy either. We visited for a friend's birthday celebration but unfortunately left disappointed.

    A Perfect Birthday Getaway

    This is my favorite accommodation where I always stay during surfing trips. This time, we stayed here for a celebratory trip for both my mother’s and my birthdays, with my mother-in-law and husband, making it a group of four. We requested a cake in advance, and they brought it out as a surprise during dinner. Although we were already full from the meal, the cake was so delicious that we finished it easily. The cakes here are from a famous patisserie in Shimoda, so the taste is exceptional! Highly recommended. The staff also celebrated with a birthday song, which made for wonderful memories. Thank you very much! I plan to visit again next time for surfing.

    Rooms with open-air baths are exceptional.

    The open-air bath in the guest room is available 24 hours and absolutely amazing. Bath towels and soft-touch gowns are provided, and both the view and the deck were fantastic. Meals were served in a private room, allowing us to enjoy them at our own pace, and having a bit of beef included was a nice touch. The Facility is quite old, and going up and down the stairs can be challenging, but the excellent location more than made up for it. I would love to visit again just to enjoy that open-air bath.

    Overall, it was a go...

    Overall, it was a good experience. However, upon arrival, I was unsure where to go and wandered around. Despite making eye contact with both male and female staff members, I was ignored without any acknowledgment. While I understand they may have been busy, a simple word would have been appreciated. Later on, I was told, "Your companion hasn't arrived yet," to which I replied that we were already together. The staff member seemed confused and returned to the front desk. It turned out there were two groups with the same last name that day, but instead of handling the mistake professionally, the front desk staff laughed about it among themselves as if it were amusing. This left me feeling uncomfortable. Other than that incident, everything else was satisfactory.

    A trip to enjoy the delights of Izu's seafood cuisine.

    I chose this ryokan to enjoy Izu seafood cuisine. First, the positive points: the staff were well-trained, and those at the front desk and during meals were excellent. The room was clean, and the view was wonderful. However, I was disappointed with the main focus of my stay—the food. While it was served in a private room with attentive service akin to a high-end restaurant, where staff brought dishes according to the menu and sometimes plated them for us, there were some issues with the meal itself: 1) The thickly sliced lemon served from the start had dried edges. Additionally, small fried items were cold and felt like bento box side dishes. The shiso leaf accompanying the sashimi seemed slightly curled due to dryness. The palate-cleansing sorbet appeared pre-frozen for convenience; it was so hard that using a spoon immediately after serving was difficult. 2) As for the charcoal-grilled seafood that was supposed to be a highlight of our meal, it felt like something you could find at any supermarket—nothing particularly impressive or special about it. Due to these issues (especially point 1), even fresh-looking sashimi and subsequent dishes lost their appeal shortly after being seated. Ultimately, I couldn't achieve my goal of enjoying exceptional seafood during this stay. That said, there are positives such as great views from this accommodation and attentive staff service. Considering its affordable price point as well, perhaps it's understandable if not all expectations are met on such occasions.

    The study fee of 80,000 yen was too expensive.

    It was an extremely disappointing stay that failed all expectations. The high reviews make me wonder if they are about a different accommodation, as I still can't believe it. I even feel reluctant to write this here. I would appreciate a proper apology even now.

    It was fun.

    The room was on the first floor. It was nice to see the sea from the first-floor room as well. I was impressed that all the staff I passed by greeted me. I reserved a spa villa in the morning, but I overslept and contacted the front desk, and they were considerate, which helped me a lot. Thank you for accommodating my mistake. The large public bath and open-air bath, as well as the private open-air bath, allowed us to enjoy a wonderful time while gazing at the sea. The meals were very filling. The local beer recommended with drinks was delicious. I thought I could buy local beer at some roadside station leisurely but couldn't find it anywhere else; I'm glad I drank it at Shimoda Yamatokan (Shimoda Yamatokan). The four-star rating for facilities is because of concerns about access routes to the large public bath. It's probably due to an extension, so it's understandable to some extent. The elevator goes up to the 4th floor, then you walk down a long corridor and take stairs up one floor to reach the large public bath on the 5th floor. It might be tough for those with mobility issues.

    Shimoda Yamatokan of...

    Shimoda Yamatokan offers an exceptional experience with its onsen. The private onsen, in particular, provides a relaxing space where you can unwind at your own pace. However, the dining experience was unfortunately disappointing. Dinner took two hours, with long intervals between each dish, disrupting the dining rhythm. Additionally, the plan we reserved included two spiny lobsters, but the staff forgot to serve one, and their apology lacked sincerity, with insufficient follow-up. While the quality of the onsen is high, there is significant room for improvement in terms of dining and service.

    I found it enjoyable to have meals both at night and in the morning. Wonderful.

    The facility is not exactly new, and it has some old-fashioned elements, leaving an average impression. However, when my wife mentioned that sitting in a Japanese-style room was tough, they immediately provided a chair with a backrest, which was impressive. The open-air Onsen is located up quite a few stairs, but it's just an ordinary open-air bath. Now it's time for dinner, and we move on. The Ise-ebi sashimi was sweet and surprisingly delicious, and the simmered Kinmedai was large and satisfying, with a flavor that wasn't too strong, making it enjoyable to eat. All the dishes were well-seasoned without being too overpowering, and we enjoyed them very much. In the morning, you can choose your favorite fish from three types of dried fish. Grilled over charcoal at each table, it was ready to eat immediately, and it was fantastic. I wrote about various things like the age of the building and the Onsen, but the quality of the meals and the excellent service made everything perfect. It turned out to be a fun and refreshing trip.     Luxurious time

    No matter how many times I visit, it is a wonderful Stays. The atmosphere of the building and rooms, as well as the service and hospitality of the staff, were excellent! Ocean views from the lobby, guest rooms, large public bath, and restaurant. The starry sky from the guest room was too luxurious. Next time, I will visit in the summer with my children. I am looking forward to the sea, pool, Onsen, and delicious seafood. Thank you very much.

    It was the best reward trip!

    I splurged on a reward trip for my birthday and stayed for one night. From the welcome at the lounge upon arrival, the attendant in charge in the Room also provided attentive service. The Room with an open-air bath and ocean view was the best, as I could enter anytime while watching the sunset and gazing at the starry sky. The in-room dining for breakfast and dinner was 120 points of satisfaction and was wonderful! I was able to do a digital detox, healed by the sound of the waves and the sound of pouring water, and spent an unparalleled time! I thought I would like to come next time with my partner or friends. *I was asked for a survey, but unfortunately, I couldn't fill it out because there was no writing instrument in the Room.

    The food was very delicious.

    Regarding the evaluation, I have a principle of not giving a perfect score unless there is a very good reason, so a score of 4 is an extremely high evaluation. The meals were particularly delicious. It wasn't the typical Ryokan cuisine; the charcoal-grilled seafood was enjoyed by the children as well. The Room and Onsen both offered a wonderful location with a view of the sea, providing a satisfying feeling of being on a trip to the ocean. The building itself is not new, but there were no dirty areas, and I have no particular complaints.

    The large public bat...

    The large public bath (5th floor) can only be accessed via stairs from the top floor of the elevator (4th floor). These stairs are long and steep, making it extremely difficult for those with leg issues. My companion managed to go up and down only once, and it was a tearful experience. Additionally, regarding the large window facing the balcony of the guest room, during the period of our Multiple Night Stay, strong winds persisted, causing the entire window to shake significantly. Despite being locked, the vibrations caused the lock to disengage, and the window gradually opened. Even though it is southern Izu, the temperature in January is in the single digits, making the cold, especially at night, unbearable. Above all, I must point out the unacceptable neglect of this situation from a security perspective.

    The hospitality is excellent.

    The food and the atmosphere of the Ryokan were very good, but above all, I felt that the service was truly excellent. Starting with the reception, the guidance to the Room, the service at the dining area, the service at the private bath, and the cleaning staff, everyone provided wonderful service, and I was able to enjoy my stay comfortably from start to finish. Moreover, the food was not only visually appealing but also tasted wonderful, and I was very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. The private bath also offered an ocean view, allowing us to spend a very special time. Even after checking out, having access to a private deck, a warm shower, and a changing room was really appreciated by us surfers. It seems that the large public bath can also be used after 3 PM! I am truly grateful for the wonderful time I was able to spend. And I definitely want to visit again next year. If I had to mention one thing that bothered me, it would be the noise from the piping of the Western-style bath's jacuzzi. That was the only slightly disappointing part. I couldn't enter the Japanese-style bath (it was for men that day), but my partner said the open-air bath was very good, so next time I want to try the Japanese-style bath!

    The view of the sandy beach is beautiful.

    I stayed at the end of December. The view of the sandy beach was beautiful, with its white sand. I enjoyed the sound of the waves while watching the surfers. The open-air baths alternate between Western and Japanese styles on even and odd days. I was soothed by the view of the sunset from the Japanese-style mountaintop open-air bath, Kirara. It was a wonderful memory. At night, I watched the starry sky accompanied by the sound of the waves. The evening meal, "Kuroshio no Zen," was an authentic kaiseki cuisine using seasonal fish, and I was very satisfied and full. I would like to try the optional Ise lobster dish if I have the chance to visit again.

    The view of the beac...

    The view of the beach right in front was amazing. The food was all delicious, beautifully presented, and you could tell it was carefully prepared. Being able to enjoy seafood grilled over charcoal at the table was a unique and excellent feature. The Room was clean, and above all, the staff provided exceptionally courteous service. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the open-air bath in the large public bath because I wasn't sure how many steps it would take to get there, and due to my physical weakness and the cold. A simple explanation of the number of steps might have helped, which was a bit disappointing. However, it was such a nice place that I would love to visit again.

    Best cost performance!

    I used the property for the first time with the conditions of a private open-air bath, Japanese-style room, and in-room dining for a solo trip. Although I didn't have high expectations due to the age of the property, the service and in-room dining were very calming, without any fancy decorations, and the meal was plentiful and delicious (including a tasty kinmedai for one person). The room was a Japanese-style room of more than 10 tatami mats with a living room-like sofa. Above all, the open-air bath with adjustable water allowed me to overlook the sea of Izu and forget about everyday life. After dinner, I also went to the large public bath and enjoyed it alone. Above all, the service at check-in and the young attendant who served dinner and breakfast were excellent in terms of maintaining a good distance with the guests. However, it was disappointing at the end when the woman at the counter and the bus driver did not respond when I asked if I could board the bus after settling the bill and leaving the room key. This would never happen at Aoyama Yamato. However, there were only three of us, including a couple, on the minibus, and when we got off, we were thanked, which made up for it. Overall, the service, room, and especially the food were more than worth the price, providing healing rather than luxury.

    I am a repeat guest.

    Thank you for the top-notch hospitality every time we visit. It's been a while since we last visited Yamato-kan. As it has become cooler, we relaxed in the Onsen. The staff greeted us warmly from the slope before entering the building. The front desk staff welcomed us immediately and helped with our luggage. We were looking forward to the Onsen! The open-air bath with a yacht view was superb. The meals were also very delicious. Thank you to the staff for your attention to detail. As it is a Ryokan with a great atmosphere, we were able to spend our time luxuriously. We look forward to visiting again soon.
