    Thank you for staying with us again.

    Thank you for your hospitality once again following our spring visit. The fish dishes, such as yamame and ayu, were delicious. We also enjoyed the live cooking experience with omelets and teppanyaki prepared right in front of us. However, the miso soup seemed to lack a strong miso flavor. The performances like the taiko drum show and mochi pounding were creative and entertaining. It might be better if the Onsen egg cooking experience was showcased in a more prominent location. We look forward to visiting again during cherry blossom season!

    It was an enjoyable stay.

    The welcome drink included wine, and I enjoyed relaxing in the footbath with a view of the garden while making my own Onsen egg. There was an ice cream service after bathing, and from the Room we were guided to, I was amazed to see a heron’s nest! The Onsen was excellent. The wine was chilled and very delicious. Although the building is older and there seemed to be no air conditioning in the hallway where we waited for the elevator, making it a bit warm, the various services made it a wonderful Accommodation. I would love to stay again!

    There will be no next time.

    The air conditioner is broken, the screen door is torn and doesn't close properly. Corners are not cleaned thoroughly. In the large public bath, two children were playing loudly, putting chairs from the washing area into the bathtub while their mother silently watched. The next morning, that same mother was swimming in the bathtub. As for the outdoor bath, floating leaves and insects are understandable, but spider webs all around are a bit much. The dinner buffet was terrible; however, the breakfast buffet was satisfactory.

    We stayed for 2 nights during our family summer vacation with our 2-year-old granddaughter, as we had a great experience staying in May. This time, we chose the buffet instead of the course meal. There was a wide variety of dishes, and each one was delicious. The rice cooked in a traditional pot, miso soup, freshly made omelets prepared right in front of us, freshly baked bread, cheese pasta, and marshmallows grilled over charcoal were especially amazing. The Bolognese served during the day was also very tasty. There were family-friendly events such as Shingen Taiko drum performances, mochi pounding festivals, and summer festival activities that created wonderful summer memories for us. We will definitely visit again!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    Stayed for two nights. All the staff, starting from the front desk, greeted us warmly. The water facilities in the room felt a bit old, but the exceptional hospitality more than made up for it, making it a satisfying trip. There was a sauna, but it lacked a cold bath on that side, and I wished for an Onsen with slightly higher temperatures. I would love to stay again.

    Birthday arrangements

    We were on a birthday trip for our child, and the staff promptly responded by offering to write their name on a message plate for the dessert cake over the phone. They also quickly looked up information about a nearby brewery when we asked. The quick and thoughtful service made us very happy. It turned out to be a wonderful anniversary trip. We would love to stay again!

    The Onsen was wonderful.

    This was my first visit to Shimobe Onsen. After enjoying the Shibazakura Festival at the Peter Rabbit English Garden, I stayed here. The onsen had a perfect water temperature, and I bathed four times. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were buffet-style but featured creative dishes made with local ingredients. The sake tasting set is highly recommended. Since my wife's parents also expressed interest in visiting, we have made a reservation for October as well.

    Relax and rejuvenate.

    I found this hotel while searching for accommodations with minimal inbound tourists. It was the right choice. ● Highlights - Footbath (very relaxing) - Shuttle Service from the express bus stop (very helpful) - Massage therapy (highly recommended) - Meals (buffet style, with a wide variety and delicious options. I informed them in advance about my friend's birthday celebration, and they surprised us with a chocolate cake featuring a message. Thank you!) - Ladies' Travel Plan (super affordable) ● Slight Disappointments - There is a large tree within the hotel premises where many birds, like herons, nest. Their loud calls at night and in the morning slightly disturbed my sleep (though it can't be helped). - Firefly viewing → Unsuccessful attempt (unfortunate!!) Despite the bird noises, it's an excellent hotel. I've already made another reservation for two nights in November! Looking forward to staying again!

    A bit disappointing

    I drove from Tokyo on a rainy day, which was tiring, but luckily the rain stopped when I arrived. I enjoyed a beer while soaking in the foot bath, but it was cold in the yukata, so I didn’t stay long. There was a massage chair available, but it turned out to be paid. I tried making boiled eggs by placing two eggs with my number for about 10 minutes and went back to peel them, only to find they were still raw. Thinking it was strange, I changed the number and waited another 10 minutes; however, they were still raw when peeled. It seems someone is taking cooked eggs after 10 minutes and replacing them with raw ones—this is disappointing. Please change this system to prevent such issues instead of relying on trust. Also, the all-inclusive service feels stingy. From arrival until breakfast the next morning, everything like lounge access, alcohol, ice cream should be completely free—other Hotels offer this level of service. Guests who travel far deserve full hospitality; focus more on providing comprehensive services rather than activities like drum performances or mochi-making events. The hospitality here is great overall but these points are disappointing!

    A heartwarming Ryokan

    In recent years, our spring and autumn trips as a couple have increasingly been to Yamanashi Prefecture. The relatively easy drive from Tokyo has made this a regular choice for us. This was our first visit to Shimobe Onsen. Upon check-in, we were shown to our room on the 6th floor, where we were delighted to see a heron’s nest right outside the window—a truly refreshing sight that set the tone for our stay. The Onsen experience was exceptional, with outdoor baths at just the right temperature—not too hot or too lukewarm—allowing us to enjoy all of them comfortably. The sauna, though small, was invigorating. However, it was slightly disappointing that due to the morning gender rotation of the large bath area, I couldn’t use the sauna in the morning. Dinner featured creative Japanese kaiseki cuisine with outstanding dishes throughout. For the main course, we had three options and chose Akadai (red sea bream) and yuba (tofu skin), which we shared between us. Our server explained each dish in detail with great care and enthusiasm, enhancing our dining experience immensely. One minor point of confusion arose when ordering hot sake; while two sizes were listed as 0.8 go and 1.4 go on the menu (and explained as such by staff), it might be more accurate to refer to them as 8 shaku and 1 go 4 shaku. After dinner, there was an exciting taiko drum performance by staff members that created a lively atmosphere; participating in mochi pounding afterward became a cherished memory for us as well. Breakfast offered an extensive selection of dishes—we opted mainly for Western-style items and thoroughly enjoyed them all. However, it seemed knives and forks weren’t readily available; they had to be specially arranged from the kitchen upon request. At checkout time, we received a heartfelt message card from one of last night’s servers at "Sato no Irori," which added a personal touch that warmed our hearts even further. From arrival through departure, this Ryokan provided an exceptional experience filled with thoughtful hospitality—truly unforgettable!

    Calm and relaxing atmosphere

    I was very satisfied. I stayed here while hosting a group for sightseeing in Yamanashi. The exterior of the hotel is a bit old, but the interior is very clean and has a calm atmosphere. There were no foreign guests, so it was quiet and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was also delicious. Even seasoned travelers commented, "This is a good hotel. I would recommend it to acquaintances visiting Yamanashi." Next time, I plan to bring my parents for some quality family time. Thank you to everyone at Shimo Hotel!

    The Onsen was excellent.

    The staff's hospitality was excellent. The taiko drum and mochi-pounding events were enjoyable and satisfying. The onsen had many baths, including sulfur springs, which were very satisfying. However, the dinner buffet was a bit disappointing compared to other accommodations' buffets. The main steak was tough, which was unfortunate, and the sashimi only included tuna and salmon. I would prefer a more fulfilling dinner experience even if it means a slightly higher price.

    Accommodation I Want to Visit Again

    It was a satisfying one-night stay. The room was spacious and clean, and the Onsen was excellent. The meal, especially the yamame fish, was delicious! The staff provided pleasant service throughout our stay. From the person who answered our call beforehand to the staff who kindly offered a bag for our umbrella when we arrived in the rain, and the cheerful restaurant team—everyone made our experience wonderful. We also enjoyed participating in mochi pounding. One small note: the massage machine in the room didn’t quite work as expected, perhaps due to user error? Nonetheless, I would love to visit again!

    I would love to visit again.

    The service was excellent, and I particularly enjoyed the complimentary offerings such as Onsen boiled eggs, post-bath ice cream, unlimited beer, wine, and herb water. The Shingen Drumming performance was also wonderful. However, during the dinner course, I noticed that the dessert was served very late. I would have liked to know the reason for the delay.

    The room's bath is a cold water bath...

    We chose this accommodation for our first trip of the year because it offered a room with a private onsen bath, suitable for families with small children. Upon being shown to our room, we found used towels from the previous guest in the bathroom. When we informed the staff member who guided us, they simply said "Ah" and removed them without much concern, which left us slightly disappointed. However, there were many enjoyable activities for children such as taiko drum shows, festival games, and onsen egg-making events. The breakfast was also delightful with delicious ochazuke (rice in tea). If not for these incidents, it would have been nearly perfect. Unfortunately, the private onsen bath in our room had issues. It was explained that water temperature adjustments were automatic and could not be controlled manually; we were advised to contact the front desk if needed. Despite multiple attempts to use it throughout our stay, cold water kept being added to the bath each time. Initially thinking this might be due to low-temperature spring water at its source, we contacted reception several times as it became increasingly cold but were told each time that they had raised the temperature—eventually claiming it was set at 50°C (which seemed dangerously high). By late night we gave up trying further so as not inconvenience anyone further; however during midnight hours only freezing-cold remained available instead. In morning after reporting again about issue staff promised reheating process temporarily resolved problem until post-breakfast period when same situation reoccurred prompting direct onsite inspection revealing equipment malfunction diagnosis finally confirmed explanation provided apology sincerely expressed individual handling matter yet neither innkeeper nor management-level representative extended formal acknowledgment checkout moment leaving impression lacking genuine hospitality response critical moments disappointing overall experience especially considering price paid significantly diminished satisfaction level ultimately saved somewhat child mistaking broken facility amusing attraction expressing enjoyment next visit hopeful improvements prevent recurrence similar circumstances future stays

    Front desk staff skilled in taiko drumming

    The Hotel was supported by the efforts of all the staff. After dinner, there was a drum performance from Kai Province. It was very skillful and felt professional. Upon asking, it turned out that the performers were front desk staff and kitchen staff, showcasing the joy and enthusiasm of everyone at the Hotel.

    A whirlwind Onsen trip with my 6-year-old daughter and wife!!

    On the morning of the day, my little daughter suddenly wanted to go on an Onsen trip, so we decided to take a one-night trip to a highly-rated and safe Onsen Hotel nearby. Shimobe Onsen was a place I learned about for the first time as a nearby Onsen, and it was a hidden gem, known as Shingen's secret bath and Ishihara Yujiro's (Ishihara Yujiro) healing spot. The Onsen, which I hadn't visited in a while, had a newly built cypress bath with hypotonic alkaline high-temperature water, and after soaking for a while, my hands became wrinkly, but the atmosphere was nice and warm. After getting out of the Onsen, depending on the time, we could enjoy free drinks like draft beer, which made for a very elegant experience. Meals were buffet-style for both dinner and breakfast, and we enjoyed as much of the local delicacies as we liked. My daughter and wife were also very satisfied!! It was a great decision to go.

    The best as an Onsen.

    The greatest advantage is that you can enjoy a long soak without feeling overheated or cold, as we offer multiple baths with different water temperatures and Onsen qualities. The meals are average. The Facility is clean but feels a bit old. It may feel slightly overpriced, but considering the quality of the Onsen, it might be unavoidable.

    It was hospitality that reminded me of the land of dreams.

    I spent the New Year at the hotel with my elderly father. The hospitality was exceptionally high, and for the first time, I felt that the stars were not enough. ■ Onsen - The baths for women and men are switched. - There are both open-air and indoor baths, each offering a variety of baths with different temperature ranges, such as local communal onsen, onsen that erupted on the premises, and underground water baths. - The changing rooms and booths in front of the mirrors were frequently cleaned, making it pleasant and comfortable to use. - Meal times were adjusted, so the peak times were well distributed, and the washing area never became overcrowded. ■ Meals (Morning & Night) - I believe it was a special menu for the New Year, but I enjoyed a buffet-style meal with Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes both in the morning and at night. - Local ingredients were abundantly incorporated, and the dairy products were also delicious. - The mochi made during the evening event was turned into zoni and shiruko the next morning, which was a delightful surprise. ■ Room - I chose a Japanese-style room because I wanted a tatami room. - It was beautifully renovated, and although it was cleaned on the second day of our three-night stay, it was done very thoroughly. - Since my accompanying father found the floor chairs uncomfortable, I called in advance, and they kindly provided a "high chair" in the room. ■ Employees (This was the most wonderful part) - I read the reviews at the time of reservation, and the general evaluation was "the facility is old, but the staff is excellent," which raised my psychological expectations a bit, but they exceeded them. - At every moment from check-in to check-out, I was moved by the employees' dedication to "hospitality" as a team. I was almost brought to tears seeing a young employee in the dining hall enthusiastically playing the drums at the subsequent event. - All the staff in the dining hall were attentive to the guests' movements, immediately assisting when they noticed someone in need, and their courteous hospitality was surprising despite the busy season. - Foreign personnel were also employed, and everyone was earnest and refreshing. - I feel that nurturing people is extremely difficult these days, but I learned that it is probably a very good corporate culture. I am grateful to have started the year well. Thank you very much.

    I have stayed several times because I love the Onsen and the Room. I also enjoy events like summer firefly watching. I am satisfied with the breakfast. The only dissatisfaction I have is with the dinner buffet. The variety is more than sufficient and looks luxurious at first glance, but each dish seems to be of the typical buffet quality. The grilled ayu and white rice are delicious, but the rest fall more than one rank below. I would prefer fewer dishes with higher quality and volume for each. Ideally, I would like a Western-style course meal instead of a buffet.

    It was a long-established Hotel, but everything was clean and left a good impression. The dinner was sufficient for a couple in their 50s, and it was clear that high-quality ingredients were used for the sashimi and steak. It was delicious. However, the soup and miso soup were a bit too bland for our taste, as we prefer stronger flavors, but the service's houtou was delicious, so there was no problem. The only dissatisfaction was the noise of children? running around on the upper floor, which made it difficult to fall asleep. Since it is a Hotel that can accommodate a large number of guests, I thought it might not be suitable for those seeking tranquility. Thank you for the letter, Mr. Oai, who was in charge of dinner.     I used it because the reviews were good, but the meals were disappointing. I urgently searched for a place to stay during the New Year and made a reservation a few days in advance. First, regarding the room, the hotel itself seems old, but it was clean and there were no issues. The futon was very thin, so I layered futons from the closet. The bath had a narrow changing area, but it was good. The post-bath ice cream (5 or 6 types from Chateraise) and free drinks were nice. Dinner was a buffet. It might have been because it was the latest time slot, but overall, the food was cold and dry. I was looking forward to the salt-grilled yamame, but the flesh was hard and dry. The sushi toppings were also dry. The tempura and fried foods were not freshly fried, and although the cheese pasta was prepared in front of me, it was cold. I was looking forward to the food, so it was very disappointing. The breakfast buffet was average. Business hotels in Tokyo are of a higher level. All the staff members were pleasant. There was a drum show and a lottery event at night. There was a sense of unity, and the staff's efforts to liven up the atmosphere were wonderful.

    You'll want to visit again.

    I was impressed by the high level of hospitality from the staff and the proper sharing of information. The day of my stay was my birthday. Although I hadn't mentioned it at the time of the reservation, during a conversation between my wife and the staff on the day, my birthday was briefly mentioned, and the staff offered me words of congratulations. During dinner, they presented me with a wonderful cake and a photo. I was also very satisfied with the great view from the room, the various types of onsen, and the delicious meals. I want to visit again.

    It was a kind Stays!

    The first time staying at this property. The staff were all very pleasant. We were well taken care of by Mr. K, who was in charge of our dinner and was very attentive. After the meal, there was a performance of Japanese drums by the staff, and Mr. K also participated, so we went to the lounge to cheer them on. The powerful performance was impressive. We were satisfied with the drinks (such as beer and wine) and ice cream available after the bath.

    I visited for the first time. The onsen egg and beer upon arrival were great. I could also enjoy beer after getting out of the bath! The bath had various types of spring qualities, and although some tubs were lukewarm, overall it was good. I enjoyed the dinner buffet, but it would have been nice to have a bit more for the main course. The staff's response was also good. I enjoyed the event after dinner as well. It was a property that made me want to visit again, so I look forward to it next time!

    The Ryokan was luxurious and the Room was spacious and nice, but the buffet meals were not relaxing. It pains me to see the guests next to me leaving a lot of food uneaten.

    The ultimate relaxation

    I visited for the first time upon the recommendation of a friend who has been here many times. From the moment of arrival, the staff's warm hospitality was evident, and I was immediately able to understand why my friend strongly recommended this place after being soothed by the beautiful footbath next to the lobby post-check-in. The Onsen offered delightful services such as a choice of shampoo types, ReFa hair dryers, and all-you-can-eat post-bath ice cream. For meals, I chose the breakfast and dinner buffet. The live kitchen was well-equipped, and everything was delicious. However, what truly stands out is "the people working here." Regardless of their position or age, everyone was overflowing with hospitality, and I could feel their genuine care in making visitors smile, not just following a manual. It was truly a Hotel that healed both body and mind.

    A trip to celebrate my father-in-law's 60th birthday

    The exterior is old, but the interior has been renovated, and the room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. There were four adults and two elementary school children, but the room was spacious enough, and there were two TVs, so both adults and children could watch their favorite shows. The room had a massage chair, which my father-in-law was happy to use at his leisure. At the hotel, we enjoyed fishing right after arriving, then soaked in the hot spring before playing table tennis. In the evening, we spent time at a festival, watching a taiko drum performance and participating in mochi pounding, which the children really enjoyed. The meals were all delicious. Personally, I indulged in a luxurious time enjoying draft beer and wine as a post-bath service. Thank you very much.
