I thought this Hotel would be a good choice for families.
I was impressed by how hard the young staff worked to provide attentive service. The dinner menu offered a wide variety of options. However, there were many families, and the dinner venue was lively, so it didn’t quite feel like an atmosphere for enjoying a relaxed meal. I was glad I could buy organically grown grapes from Sawatō Farm in the lobby in the morning.

We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
After watching your YouTube video, we thought it looked wonderful and made a Reservation. Even though it was the peak summer holiday season, we were incredibly lucky to secure a Room. As expected, there were many families and large groups, but thanks to the staff’s quick and well-organized coordination, there were no bottlenecks and my spouse and I truly enjoyed our stay. The baths were amazing, with so many excellent tubs to choose from. I especially soaked often in hopes of easing my chronic lower back pain and nerve pain. Shimobe Onsen has helped improve the numbness in my right hand and nerve pain in the past, so I feel deeply grateful for it. We would definitely like to come again for therapeutic bathing. Next time, we would love to stay in a suite Room with a private open-air Onsen bath.

Was it because it was summer vacation?
The building has a Showa-to-Heisei-era feel, but it was very clean and left a good impression. It was nice that you can have ice cream after the bath and enjoy free drinks in the lounge (including alcohol), but the relaxing areas were not that comfortable. I couldn’t really unwind. Families with children will likely enjoy it.

Delicious water
The water was delicious! The taiko drum show was also great. The floor at the elevator entrance was dirty, which was disappointing.

Fully equipped and thoughtfully appointed
Although it was our first stay, we felt this Hotel is enjoyable for everyone, from small children to seniors like us. Thanks to the wonderful service from all the staff, we were able to spend a relaxing holiday. Thank you very much.

This Ryokan far exceeded our expectations and was truly wonderful.
The Room amenities were excellent, but what impressed us most was having a sommelier at the dinner restaurant. Their extensive knowledge of Yamanashi wines, clear explanations, and outstanding hospitality were remarkable. When we asked them to choose a wine for each dish to match the food, they provided exactly the service we had hoped for. Above all, we were most satisfied to be able to enjoy a wide variety of wines that pair well with Japanese cuisine—wines we would not normally have the chance to try. We visit Minobu about once a year for grave visits, so next time we plan to stay at Shimobe Hotel again. The baths were also wonderful; with plenty of open-air Onsen baths, we could truly relax and enjoy the benefits of the Onsen. The after-dinner event was also very lively. We could feel the effort made throughout the Accommodation to welcome guests, and we had a very comfortable stay. Also, right in front of our Room there were several nests with quite a large number of grey herons. Being able to watch them was a truly happy experience.

A Charming Accommodation
As we stayed on a weekday, there weren’t many guests and we had a comfortable stay. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style. There wasn’t a huge variety, but I think there were enough options to enjoy. In particular, the dinner steak was served individually for each person, so it was delicious. In the morning, we saw a grey heron outside the window and started the day off well. The footbath lounge and services such as drinks and ice cream also made this a great Accommodation. Thank you very much.

It was a great Hotel!
The Room facilities are a bit old, but the tatami mats were new and felt great. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, and every dish was very delicious—salt-grilled yamame trout, steak, and more. There was also a wide variety of breads at breakfast; they were all tasty and left us completely full. The staff were kind with wonderful smiles. The Jindaiko drum performance and the mochi-pounding were also great.

Footbath Veranda
Soak your feet in the footbath while enjoying views of lush greenery, including a pond with beautiful koi and a bamboo grove! The cool breeze was wonderful. I wish it stayed open at night instead of closing at 6:00 PM. Mornings would feel great too, but when the drink service is closed, no one comes by… I really wish coffee were available! Still, the three types of natural hot spring water were pure bliss—this is an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again. The taiko drumming and mochi-pounding were also a lot of fun.

Just as other Review...
Just as other Reviews said, this was a wonderful Accommodation. Above all, the staff were excellent, and the draft beer in the lounge was superb. The food wasn’t flashy, but it was delicious. The hot spring water quality suited my taste as well; the only minor inconvenience was having to bring bath towels from the Room, but it was acceptable. What impressed me most was the evening battle drum performance. The young performers played beautifully, and I was moved thinking they must have practiced between work shifts. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

I think it’s a good Hotel.
An Accommodation close to the station. The area around the station is pretty sparse. (There isn’t anything in particular.) It’s probably one of the larger Accommodations in this area. Even though it was a weekday, it was lively. The staff work hard, but I guess it varies by person. The Room amenities are minimal. The toothbrush is an old-style hard disposable one. These days many Accommodations provide softer-bristled toothbrushes, so I’d like them to consider that. The mattress was comfortable. No samue; only yukata. All the baths were lukewarm—maybe that’s just how they are? It does seem to stimulate skin turnover. In the sauna, you sit directly on wood, so it would be nice if there were sauna mats. You need to bring towels from your Room. We went for dinner later on, and after one round of the buffet, when we went back for a second round, several items were already gone—main dishes from the live kitchen like steak and salmon-skin crackers, and maybe beef stew my husband wanted—despite it being less than 30 minutes after service started. Is it a “once it’s gone, it’s over” style? I understand as a measure against food loss, but it felt a bit disappointing. That said, I don’t see other Reviews like this, so I’m not sure if we were just unlucky. If we go again, I think we’ll choose an earlier time slot. The crab was also pretty empty. Since you’re making good use of local production for local consumption特色 anyway (?), I don’t think you need to force having crab. The char grilled at the robatayaki station and the toasted marshmallows were excellent. Services like boiled eggs, Chateraise ice cream, and the drink corner were appreciated. Everything was tasty. My husband liked it overall, so if we have another chance we’d like to visit again.

I’d love to stay here again.
The meals were delicious, and the bath was great too, so I’d love to visit again. The whole Accommodation was full of hospitality—like the footbath, the evening drum performance, and mochi!

An Accommodation that tries a variety of initiatives
Stayed one night during the cherry blossom viewing at Kuonji Temple. It takes about an hour from the Chuo Expressway, and less than 10 minutes from the interchange where the toll section of the Tokai-Kanjo Expressway ends. This is a standalone Accommodation tucked into the mountains of Minobu after leaving the open Kofu Basin—a large-scale Hotel with a considerable number of Rooms. The many promotional signs and notices at the entrance detract from a calm atmosphere. The building is several decades old, so its age is noticeable, but various areas and the Rooms have been renovated. The Onsen, one of this Accommodation’s highlights, has source water at 38°C, which is relatively low for a natural spring. There are many baths, with a good selection centered around open-air baths. Water brought in from a shared Onsen with a slight sulfur scent feels just right. The complimentary post-bath service—ice cream and even alcohol—is well done, though time rules are strict, likely to avoid affecting dinner orders. For dinner there is also a kaiseki-style set-meal restaurant, but the main offering is a family-friendly buffet that lets guests choose what they like—a style now common across The whole country. Still, they put effort into it: serving yamame trout dishes, mini steaks on an iron plate, small frozen crab legs, and even bringing their signature “Carbonara” to your table. Breakfast was nothing special. The Accommodation Fee varies depending on Room size; even if you choose a larger, more upscale Room, the services are the same. Overall, it’s a large Onsen Accommodation that feels appropriately priced for what it offers.

About Facilities and Services
There was a cold (?) bath in the Onsen, and when I asked the staff, they said it was due to the spring quality, but it was still cold. Service: The staff member in charge during dinner for both nights provided excellent hospitality. It was the best. End

Onsen, dining, and staff—excellent all around.
Shimobe Hotel was an Accommodation that had everything you hope for in a “so glad we stayed here” experience. From the comfort of the Room to the baths, dinner, breakfast, and the staff’s attentive service, satisfaction never faded at any point during our stay. The meals truly made us feel there was a reason to come to this area. The fragrant salt-grilled yamame trout and the comforting taste of houtou let us enjoy local blessings in an honest, straightforward way. Including breakfast, the focus is less on flashiness and more on care and authentic regional flavors—so your food memories from this trip will stay with you. The Onsen lived up to its reputation; my skin felt wonderfully smooth afterward. I also received a massage after bathing, performed with great care, and it was deeply relaxing. What makes this Accommodation especially memorable is the sense of togetherness throughout the property. The staff’s taiko drum performance was lively and naturally brought smiles, and the mochi-pounding activity—followed by tasting—wasn’t just something to watch; it became an experience everyone could enjoy together, making the evening feel truly special. Along with the relaxation you expect from an Onsen destination, this warm hospitality is what turns the entire stay into a lasting memory. Shimobe Hotel’s strength is its excellent balance: it suits those who want to soak quietly as well as those who want a touch of event-like fun while traveling. With seasonal scenery and dishes that likely change throughout the year, it’s an Accommodation that genuinely makes you think, “I want to come back.”

A Fun Hotel Packed with Events
Pros 1) The fishing pond is fun even if you don’t catch anything, because you receive a consolation in-house voucher. 2) The private bath was spacious and very satisfying. 3) After-bath beer and Chateraise ice cream were free, which was a great value. 4) The taiko drum show was powerful and moving. 5) The mochi-pounding experience was fun (the MC and staff guidance were excellent). 6) The footbath was wonderful. 7) The Room was clean. 8) The all-you-can-eat buffet was amazing—the snow crab, sweet shrimp, and hoto noodles were delicious. 9) A staff member kindly helped us choose our colored yukata together. Among all the Onsen inns I’ve stayed at, this one had the best variety of enjoyable events. Areas for improvement 1) When we left the Room, the hallway felt extremely cold—was there no air conditioning/heating, or wasn’t it working? 2) Some tiles in the private bath tub had come off and were on the floor near our feet. 3) I understand this is my fault because we lost one Room key, but when we reported it missing at night, one male staff member on duty did not help us look for it and responded in a calm but very matter-of-fact way (“We’ll open it with a spare key”). Even when we thought we might have dropped it at the souvenir shop, we were told they couldn’t open it until the next day, so nothing could be done that night. It also felt like he looked bothered by the situation—his attitude could have been more considerate. Other staff members noticed us searching multiple times and checked on us with concern, and the morning staff were kind. After checkout, we were told our key had been found in another guest’s room—so of course we couldn’t find it ourselves. That means someone from that room must have taken our key!!! Because one key was missing, there wasn’t an additional door guard/chain next to where the key is usually placed (the simple latch type), which made us feel scared during the night. Thinking another guest may have had our Room key is terrifying. From now on, we will make sure not to let go of our keys—and even when placing them in a bath basket, we will keep them hidden—to stay safe.

An Accommodation offering exceptional hospitality and attentive service
It had been a while since I last stayed at an Onsen Accommodation, and this Hotel truly reminded me how wonderful Japanese Accommodations are. The staff were full of hospitality in every way. Their warm, smiling service was very comforting, especially these days. The dinner and breakfast buffet were both delicious across the board. *The bath and the water quality were excellent, and everything was clean.* Just one thing: the room was cold, so I left the air conditioner on strong fan mode all night—sorry about that. Since my family home is nearby, I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much for your kindness to my mother.

It was a joyful New Year.
I stayed for one night during the New Year. The Japanese drum show was amazing! I was completely captivated. After that, there was a mochi-making event, and I participated as well—it was so much fun. The bath was very relaxing, but if I may suggest, it would be nice to have towels and bath towels available in the large public bath area. My husband tried making Onsen boiled eggs, but when he went to retrieve them after about 20 minutes, they were gone. Did someone else eat them? He was upset at the time, but now it's something we laugh about. We also enjoyed playing table tennis—it turned out to be a wonderful New Year’s experience. Thank you very much!

We had a wonderful trip.
Children will be delighted with activities like fishing, traditional festival games, mochi pounding, and taiko drum shows. The friendly smiles and excellent service from the staff made this trip truly enjoyable. We are very satisfied. However, we felt that the buffet meals could use some improvement in both taste and variety.

I enjoyed a long bath after a while.
The open-air bath was absolutely amazing. There were both hot and very lukewarm options, and we enjoyed alternating between them. My son and wife were delighted, saying their skin felt smooth. The complimentary ice cream after the bath, the taiko drum show, and the kindness of the staff all added to our wonderful experience. The meals were buffet-style but offered a variety of dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our family especially loved the pufferfish tempura and grilled fish fillets—we couldn't get enough! For breakfast, there was an apple-flavored smoothie that tasted great despite its unusual appearance; I found myself going back for seconds multiple times. It seemed like guests from Korea also enjoyed it as they went for refills too. The Room had some signs of age but was so comfortable with thoughtful touches that it didn’t bother us at all. We felt completely relaxed during our stay—thank you very much!

Well done!
A charming, long-established hotel that blends traditional ambiance with modern facilities and design. It is rare to find a hotel so well-maintained. The onsen offers a variety of options, making it an enjoyable experience! With many young staff members, the event planning is lively, and their service is excellent. This is one of the accommodations I would love to visit again throughout all seasons.

Thank you for your patronage.
I stayed for one night and two days for the first time. As expected of a five-star hotel, it was exceptional. My wife and I talked about wanting to visit again on our way home. At checkout, I received a letter from a young woman in charge of meals, and I promptly wrote back. The service, food, events, footbath, lounge, and large public bath were all highly satisfying. The staff's attentive care towards guests was also remarkable. The new employees were diligent and well-trained, and there were many young staff members as well; it made me want to learn more about the management here. If I may point out one thing: we had fish we caught at the fishing pond served as salt-grilled fish for dinner. Since salt-grilled fish was already on the menu, I requested a change but was told it wasn’t possible. It’s unfortunate because this hotel is otherwise so accommodating to its guests' needs. If they could adjust the menu slightly when serving caught fish for dinner with an explanation from the meal staff about this special touch—it would have been truly moving! I look forward to visiting again soon! Thank you in advance!

Disappointing meals
The room with an open-air bath (627) was spacious and clean, providing a comfortable stay. The large public bath had various options to enjoy, and the lounge footbath had a nice atmosphere. However, the dinner buffet we were looking forward to was overall disappointing in taste. The only recommendation would be the river fish grilled over an irori hearth. The steak, which should have been exciting, left us wondering what kind of meat it was—we stopped after one bite. Despite reviews claiming the food is delicious, it made us question if they were paid to write them due to how underwhelming it was. Hoping for a relaxed time in the dining area turned out frustrating as staff noisily cleared dishes from other tables and wiped down chairs and tables while we were still eating. When idle, they whispered among themselves and occasionally glanced at us as if waiting for us to leave quickly. Although there was still time left for dining hours, there wasn’t any food worth going back for or a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy our meal further—so we ended early. Perhaps private dining rooms could be offered separately from tour groups? For spending over 30,000 yen per night here, there are plenty of better options elsewhere—definitely no plans to return again.

Beyond expectations
Due to the inbound tourism, I have been avoiding large-scale facilities for onsen trips, but I suddenly decided to plan a trip because I wanted to see the autumn leaves from Lake Motosu and the snow-capped Mt. Fuji from Kirifuri Highlands. Expecting the impact of inbound tourism around Lake Kawaguchi, I chose Shimobe Onsen instead. Without much expectation, I booked this hotel as I managed to get a room with an open-air bath, and in conclusion, it was fully satisfying. Unlike typical large-scale hotels, the staff in charge of meals were exceptionally pleasant and made my stay truly enjoyable. The only disappointment was that BS broadcasting was not available in a room of that grade, so I couldn't watch my favorite sumo wrestling!

Satisfied.
We stayed in a room with two beds and one futon for three adults. The spacious public bath was a unique onsen with multiple types of hot springs, allowing us to relax thoroughly. Meals were served buffet-style, featuring local ingredients and live cooking stations, which we enjoyed very much. At 8:30 PM, there was an exciting drum performance and mochi-pounding event in the lobby by the staff, creating a lively atmosphere. The young staff members were very active and left a positive impression. However, we deducted some points for facilities due to steps at the room entrance that made it less barrier-free, though the interior had been beautifully renovated. At the morning market in the lobby, we purchased fresh vegetable sets and have already enjoyed their delicious flavors.

Thank you very much for your kind support.
We arranged a sudden trip and stayed at your accommodation for 2 nights from October 11th to 13th. Although we couldn't get the room we initially hoped for due to the holiday season, your exceptional service exceeded our expectations, leaving our entire family deeply moved and delighted. Thank you so much for the thoughtful birthday gesture for our daughter and accommodating meal requests not included in the plan. The reception staff and restaurant team were all kind, attentive, and their natural smiles made us feel very comfortable. We were thoroughly satisfied with both nights of our stay. Even my elderly mother was able to relax at your accommodation and enjoyed her time there. We would love to visit again in the future without hesitation. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us during this stay!
