An Accommodation with delicious meals and warm, welcoming staff
We stayed for one night on a trip to Nagano. The location was so deep in the mountains that at first we wondered if there really was an Accommodation out there, but we were relieved to arrive safely. In addition to the indoor bath, there was also an outdoor hot spring (a “wild” bath), and we used both—they were wonderfully relaxing. The Facility itself seemed old, but it was kept very clean. The meals were just the right amount, and everything was delicious. Since I’m pregnant and avoiding raw fish, the staff kindly offered to switch it—suggesting fried chicken—which was very helpful. Next time, I’d love to try the char sashimi raw. My husband also said it was the first time he’d stayed at an Accommodation where every dish was this good, so we’d like to visit again in a different season and enjoy more of the料理.

Highly satisfied
I initially thought it might be a bit far to travel from Togakushi, but they prepared a boxed breakfast for our early-morning departure and also allowed us to settle the bill the day before, so leaving early the next day was very smooth. At dinner, I tried iwana (char) sashimi for the first time; all the other dishes were delicious as well, and we really enjoyed the sake. There is a public open-air bath just a few minutes’ walk away, but this Accommodation’s open-air bath had better views, and it was wonderfully refreshing both for body and mind. Thank you very much.

Onsen Accommodation at an Altitude of 900m
Amakazari-so, located deep in the mountains of Otari Village, Nagano Prefecture. This accommodation closes for the winter season from mid-November, but it offers an unexpectedly wonderful onsen and a dinner featuring carefully selected local ingredients, providing great satisfaction. The spring water from Mount Amakazari is exceptional as well. The autumn foliage around Omaru Falls and Kamaike Pond during this season is stunning, making it an accommodation worth visiting.

An exceptional accommodation that redefines the image of a mountain lodge.
I visited to see the autumn leaves at Tsugaike Nature Park in October and found this accommodation while browsing their website, so I made a Reservation. Initially, I imagined it as a simple mountain lodge for climbing Mt. Amakazari, but it far exceeded my expectations in a good way. First of all, the food is incredibly delicious! While not overly luxurious, the seasoning perfectly matched our taste preferences. The dishes seemed to be skillfully prepared using fresh local ingredients. We ordered a course with a sake tasting set and enjoyed four varieties of sake, each unique and flavorful. (Personally, my favorite was "Otari Nishiki," which was highly recommended.) Additionally, you can grate authentic fresh wasabi yourself to enjoy with sashimi, soba noodles, or ochazuke—this was another highlight. The service is attentive and polite; chatting with the staff added to the enjoyment of our stay. The bath area has slightly limited washing spaces but offers excellent hot water. The outdoor bath had such perfect water temperature that I could soak endlessly. After bathing, complimentary cold local milk is provided—a nice touch. There’s also an open-air bath surrounded by nature about 100 meters outside the building. Although signs on-site indicate usage hours from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, guests were seen enjoying it early in the morning as well. The exterior appearance and interior facilities—including guest rooms and elevators—are all clean and seem recently renovated or well-maintained. However, one downside is that there are many stink bugs; we borrowed tape from reception to deal with them extensively. Since it's located in the mountains this might be unavoidable—but if you dislike insects strongly—it may be better visiting during another season! Additionally—as they share management ties w/ Tsugaike Nature Park—you can purchase discounted combo tickets (gondola + ropeway + park entry) for ¥3,500 instead-of regular ¥4,000 price saving money! It takes around 30–40 minutes by car reaching gondola station near base allowing last-minute weather-check before buying tickets!

Unchanging service and excellent meals
Every year during this season, I stay here to relax after hiking in the Northern Alps. This year, I arrived the day before climbing Mt. Amakazari and started my hike early the next morning. Since I left the accommodation around 5:00 AM, I requested a breakfast bento box. The miso-marinated Shinshu salmon bento exceeded my expectations in taste—very satisfying even as a takeaway meal. After enjoying the bento at the accommodation, I did a round trip from Amakazari Mountain Highland Campground. The accommodation is two stories high but now features an elevator installed this year, making it barrier-free and comfortable for everyone to use. The delicious meals are served with excellent hospitality by the staff. I've been staying here for years, and the quality of food has remained consistently high. I always choose the "Light Portion High-Quality Kaiseki Plan," which offers perfect portions and exceptional quality. Thank you very much! I'll visit again soon!

The meals are excellent.
This is a hidden gem of an accommodation. You may feel uncertain as you travel further into the remote area, but you'll eventually arrive. The room was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of space. The bath was also pleasant, and at night, I could see the stars from the open-air bath. A staff member mentioned that "you can even see the Milky Way if it's late enough." However, there was a note advising caution for solo bathing after 10 PM, so I decided not to use it then. There was a small hole in the partition between the men's and women's sections of the open-air bath, which made me wonder if someone might peek through it. The meals were excellent! They featured ingredients unique to this mountain accommodation, including some dishes I'd never tried before—it was truly enjoyable. Next time, I’d like to try out the outdoor open-air baths outside of the main building as well!

It was a good Stays.
After seeing the autumn leaves and the profile of the goddess at Mt. Amakazari, we visited. The room was clean and simple, giving a solid and robust impression. From the room's window, you can see a panorama of autumn leaves, Mt. Kashimayari, the Hakuba foothills, and in the distance, the mountains of the Northern Alps such as Mt. Yari. In the morning, you can see the Morgenrot of the Northern Alps mountains illuminated by the morning sun, and the autumn leaves visible up close are beautifully dyed as if they are burning. From the open-air bath inside the property, you can also see the mountains with autumn leaves. The quality of the spring was just the right temperature with a slight viscosity, which was very satisfying. The open-air bath outside the property was crowded with climbers after descending the mountain, so we did not use it this time. The meals were simple but enjoyable enough. New rice and new soba, unique to this season, were also offered, and we enjoyed them deliciously with Nagano trout, wasabi, pepper miso, and seasonal ingredients. The hospitality was simple. It was polite but not excessive, just right. It was a property where we felt glad to visit before the winter closure due to Otari Village being a heavy snowfall area. We will visit again.

Reliable service
Enjoying nature and food here has become a staple way to spend summer vacations. This time, after descending from Tateyama, we stayed here for about two nights. The interior is well-cleaned and maintained. The meals in the morning and evening change daily, so you never get bored. They are visually appealing and delicious to eat. The quality remains unchanged from last year in every aspect. The reassurance of "service as expected" is delightful. Speaking of which, the outside of the open-air bath in the building has been beautifully maintained, turning into a neat garden. It's a small thing, but it conveyed that they pay proper attention to maintenance. I plan to stay here again next year.

A place with good food, good baths, and great hospitality.
The lobby was very simple, and the check-in was underwhelming (sorry), but it turned out to be an inn that overturned this impression with its hospitality. First, the welcome drink was milk, which was sweet and delicious!! The refrigerator in the room was stocked with plenty of cold spring water from Mt. Amakazari, which was refreshing after a bath. The dinner featured dishes made with plenty of local ingredients, and the sashimi of char and the bone crackers that followed were particularly impressive. This time, we chose the local sake tasting plan, but there are various plans such as mountain climbing, and you can feel the inn's efforts. What was most wonderful was the service of the staff during dinner. Every time they served a dish, they added a word with a gentle smile, and I could feel the hospitality of all the staff, making it a pleasant experience. I was also able to refresh my body and mind in the large public bath available 24 hours a day and the open-air bath in the forest, which is a 1-2 minute walk away, full of rustic charm. A few things that caught my attention. It's quite deep in the mountains, and there were no signboards along the way, which made me anxious. It's a pity that the checkout is early at 9:30. Since you go to the outdoor bath, it might be easier to walk if there were something like samue wear instead of yukata. I hope you visit not only for climbing Mt. Amakazari but also to enjoy a leisurely time.

It's far, but worth visiting.
I booked this inn to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The meals, including the Iwana sashimi and grilled Shinshu beef, were of course delicious, but the soba served later was outstanding and I felt it was on par with famous restaurants. The hot spring had a smooth texture and was pleasant, and I ended up taking a long bath while enjoying the view from the open-air bath. It took more than five hours from Nagoya, but it was worth the trip.
