    Family-friendly travel

    Traveling with two infants. The Room had an in-room bath, two beds set up on tatami mats, and two regular beds. The tatami setup felt safe for small children even if they rolled off, so the Room was great for us. It has been renovated and was very clean and beautiful! However, with a stroller the elevator route is quite a detour and inconvenient—I got lost. Dinner service was extremely disappointing because of the staff member in charge. Since our child can’t eat much, we planned to decide after seeing the menu and did not make a Reservation in advance. A children’s plate was brought to our table by mistake and placed down, then taken away with “It was for another table.” Because it looked good, I asked, “Can we order that children’s menu?” and I was told in an unpleasant way, “It’s too late now.” (They were not a foreign staff member.) On a rare trip we want to enjoy dinner at a relaxed pace, but even though we had barely started eating, all dishes were lined up on the table at once as if we were being rushed. I really disliked how the food kept getting cold. With kids you have to feed them and you can’t eat that quickly—anyone could see from the untouched plates. On top of that, plates were cleared without asking while we were still eating; even the myoga garnish was taken away before I could eat it. When my husband said, “Did they take the myoga?” all we got back was “Oh.” They saw our child drop their rice bowl but pretended not to notice; even when I said it fell, they ignored us. When I ladled hot pot broth into a small dish to keep it on hand, they tried to clear it again; when I said we were still eating, they replied, “Huh? You’re still going to eat?” The staff member is older, but honestly showed far too little professionalism. Everything else was good, but because of them our meal left us very frustrated. Even looking back now makes me irritated about what should have been a special family trip.

    The meals and baths are top-notch.

    Overall, it offers exceptional value for money. Meals were served not only at dinner but also at breakfast in a calm semi-private setting, and the quality was excellent. The inclusion of local cuisine made the experience highly satisfying. Both the indoor bath and open-air bath were spacious and open, which was also very satisfying. This Accommodation comes highly recommended for guests who prioritize dining and baths.

    Breakfast for children is the same as for adults.

    We stayed as a family. At dinner, our elementary school–aged child was served the kids’ menu, but breakfast was the same menu as for adults. The official website shows photos of a separate children’s breakfast as an example, so we would have appreciated a note clarifying whether it requires advance request or depends on the Plan. At dinner, for adults who cannot drink alcohol due to their constitution, it would be very helpful if after-meal coffee were included on the menu. We enjoyed delicious coffee at the café on the first floor, but we would have liked to finish the meal with coffee and a sweet dessert.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    This was our first stay, and we were very satisfied with the open-air bath in the Room and the delicious meals served in a semi-private dining area. It would have been even better if extra towels and drip coffee had been provided.

    Highly satisfied.

    The bath and Room were clean and comfortable, and all the staff were very kind. Both dinner and breakfast had just the right seasoning and portions, and everything was delicious. It would be perfect if breakfast included a small dessert bite and after-meal coffee. This was a Ryokan I would definitely like to stay at again and recommend to friends.     My two cousins and I...

    My two cousins and I stayed here to unwind from our daily fatigue. Meals were served in a private dining Room just for us, and both breakfast and dinner were more than we could finish—everything was delicious and we were very satisfied. We could also enjoy views of Lake Biwa from our Room, making it a wonderful trip. Thank you very much.

    Enjoy Lake Biwa to the fullest!

    This trip was also to celebrate my best friend’s birthday, so we treated ourselves and stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. While the building is understandably a bit old, everything else was comfortable, especially the bath. The views of Lake Biwa were wonderful both at night and in the morning. The meals were perfect—small portions of many delicious dishes. Everything was truly excellent. With partitions in place, we hardly noticed even when there were many other guests. The service was attentive in every way. And the birthday celebration service moved us—it was wonderful. We also really appreciated the Shuttle Service. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    We were very satisfied.

    This was our first trip since our 5-month-old daughter was born, and we stayed here for the first time. They provided a diaper trash bin in the Room, and at meals they prepared a baby cot and blankets, which was very helpful. The Room had an open-air bath, so we could bathe with peace of mind even with a small child. The food was delicious and we were very satisfied. One small concern: the only way from the front desk to the guest Rooms is via an escalator, which may be inconvenient for guests with strollers or wheelchairs.

    I’m very shocked.

    The meals were the worst. Although Omi rice should be very tasty, it was hard and clumpy, like old rice, and tasted bad. In the large public bath, hair and grime(?) were floating on the surface, which was very unpleasant. For the record, it was not “yunohana” (mineral deposits). The Room was average, but for wheelchair users it would be better to have clear signage indicating steps or level changes. I tripped (in the Room and in the hallway). Instead of a raised tatami bed platform, I would have preferred a standard bed. I stayed with four seniors aged 75 or older, and everyone disliked it. We previously stayed at Ryokusuitei and Kaike Yugetsu and had a great experience there, so this gap was very disappointing. Please pass this on to Yuzankaku. Please do not publish this review.

    What a breathtaking view.

    We were first amazed by the breathtaking views. The drinks enjoyed from the open-air bath in our Room were exceptional! The Room amenities were also by MIKIMOTO and felt luxurious, so it was well worth splurging on the suite. With two toilets and two sinks, we could take our time getting ready. The Ryokan’s welcome drink—sparkling wine—was delicious, and the terrace view was outstanding as well. We will definitely return!

    Everyone enjoyed the...

    Everyone enjoyed the meals and found them delicious. We also enjoyed relaxing in the large public bath and the open-air bath. However, it was disappointing that there was no faucet at the Room washbasin.

    When it comes to travel, it’s all about the food.

    It was a reasonably priced course, but everything was delicious. The portions were just right, and for that price, the food was excellent. We left completely full.

    The staff were very attentive and listened carefully to our requests. Above all, they were energetic and seemed to truly enjoy their work, which made us smile as well. The Facility was excellent and very clean.

    It was really great.

    Some parts of the Facility felt a bit old, but I didn’t notice it at all. That’s because everyone was so kind, and I felt comfortable throughout my stay. Everything was kept very clean, and the large public bath was spotless as well. The meals were excellent in both taste and portion size, and I could tell the children’s kaiseki course was thoughtfully designed to delight kids. In fact, my son—who usually doesn’t eat much kaiseki—kept saying how delicious it was and ate until he was completely full! I would definitely like to stay again if I have the chance.

    Smells strongly of cigarette smoke.

    The facilities, meals, Onsen, and service were all excellent. However, although we stayed in an Excellent Room, there was a smoking room right in front of the Room entrance. The entire 6th-floor hallway smelled of cigarettes, and I wondered why we had to feel uncomfortable after paying a high accommodation fee. If you are going to call it “Excellent,” I hope you will reconsider this.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    The Room had an open-air bath outside. It offered a full view of Lake Biwa and was a very nice Room. However, it was not free-flowing, and having to fill the bath with hot water myself was very inconvenient. The meals were also very delicious. I requested a children’s meal at check-in, and it was reasonably priced with great contents. My spouse and I were supposed to receive the same meal, but only one of us was served something different. When I asked about it, they only apologized. Normally, wouldn’t they bring the correct replacement? That’s what I would consider standard practice.

    We’re sorry to hear that.

    The meals and the Onsen were wonderful, but the surface of the bedroom air conditioner hadn’t been cleaned and was covered in dust, so I didn’t feel comfortable using it and slept without it. It was very cold and I couldn’t sleep at all.

    A truly impressive inn.

    This is my fifth accommodation in my favorite Ogoto Onsen area. They first told me dinner would be from 6:00, then said 6:00 was fully booked and changed it to 6:30—confusing. There was hair on part of the Room, so I asked them to remove it. (The rest of the cleaning was not bad.) Dinner and breakfast were average for the price. The futon was laid out messily. In the morning, housekeeping staff were gathered in the corridor. After checkout, I asked them to move a car that was parked so I couldn’t get mine out, but they didn’t respond promptly and made excuses that it belonged to a guest who was checking out late. That is unacceptable. This is the property’s responsibility. I expect hospitality on par with other accommodations.

    It was a warm and welcoming Accommodation.

    Flowers decorated the hallways on each floor, and the plates and vases displayed in the dining area were beautiful, reflecting a refined attention to detail. All of the service was friendly, with warm smiles and courteous care, and the view of Lake Biwa from the Room window was wonderful. Every dish was delicious, and because it was a semi-private dining space, we could chat without worrying about others—everyone was satisfied. The pudding was homemade and pleasantly not too sweet. We would love to come again.

    Staying to celebrate a birthday.

    We were getting tired of buffet meals, so we chose this Accommodation after reading Reviews saying the food was delicious. The dishes were very tasty and generous in portion size, and the celebration plate was gorgeous. There was also a roll cake for our child, which made them absolutely delighted. (We brought our own candles.) The bath was clean and warmed us through to the core. However, you need to go down stairs from the changing area to the bathing area. There is a handrail, but I felt that elderly guests may need assistance. Our Japanese-style Room had a great view. It was a cold day with snow still on the ground, but it wasn’t cold at all thanks to the air conditioning, and there was also an air purifier, so our child with a house-dust allergy had no issues during our stay. All staff members we met greeted us politely, and we had a very comfortable stay. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Good taste

    The decor was tasteful, and everything from the hallways to the elevator hall and the Room was lovely. The spacious hallways were comfortable, and above all, everything was impeccably clean.

    The meals were delic...

    The meals were delicious, but the breakfast felt a bit small in portion. The large public bath and open-air bath were spacious and perfect for a relaxing soak. It was also great that the private open-air bath in the guest room used Onsen water. Having a welcome drink service upon arrival would make the experience even better.

    The author is from Hong Kong and not fluent in Japanese. Therefore, this message is written in pseudo-Chinese; please understand. This was my first time staying at a Japanese-style Ryokan and experiencing a traditional Kaiseki meal. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Below are some suggestions: - During breakfast and dinner, providing English or Chinese materials for foreign guests could enhance understanding and enjoyment of the dishes. - The serving pace during meals felt slightly rushed, giving an impression of being hurried to eat. - The pen provided in the room was difficult to use (out of ink). Thank you!
