I was bothered by an unpleasant odor in the restroom.

I stayed in a Room on the 4th floor. As soon as I got off the elevator, I noticed a slightly unusual smell, and when I went into the toilet in the Room, there was a definite foul odor. It smelled like seawater left sitting—fishy and unpleasant... The cleaning was very thorough, which made it all the more disappointing. The large public bath was comfortable and had amenities such as lotion. However, the frosted glass privacy panels inside the bath are only placed low down. Because of the great ocean view, if you stand up you can be clearly seen from the road along the building and from the building across (the Otsuka Pharmaceutical retreat facility). Dinner was a buffet at the nearby main building. The food was neither particularly good nor bad. Breakfast also didn’t feel much different from what you’d find at a Business Hotel. It’s close to Otsuka Museum of Art and to where you board the Naruto whirlpool sightseeing boats, so it may be convenient for those visiting those places, but I recommend No Meals Included.

I booked an ocean-view Japanese-style room, but the view was of private houses and mountains right in front of us. Isn’t that misleading? There was a foul odor—likely sewage—from the bathroom and sink, which made me feel sick. I contacted the front desk, but they responded dismissively and offered no helpful support. We ended up masking it with air freshener and just waiting for the night to pass.

    I probably won’t go again.

I stayed here because it is close to the museum. The guest room was surprisingly spacious. Some of the foreign staff were polite, but there were also Japanese staff who were rude. The Onsen at Taimaru, where I stayed, was average, but the sister property, the Grand Hotel, was so dirty that I never want to go again. Dinner required taking a bus to the Grand Hotel and was a buffet, but unfortunately it was the least tasty meal I have ever had. Everything tasted bad and there was nothing I wanted to eat. Breakfast the next morning was at Taimaru and it was average. It is cheap, but not good value for money. I won’t go again.

    Your First Time in Tokushima

The staff were very welcoming, and I had a pleasant stay. Thank you. There was a wonderful view right in front of me. After dinner, I walked back. If I have the opportunity again, I would love to stay here again.

    Completely satisfied with everything.

The view from the Room was wonderful, and the meals were delicious. Above all, we are truly grateful for the warm and pleasant hospitality from the staff. The Hotel is closer to the Otsuka Museum of Art than the museum parking lot, so if you plan to visit, we highly recommend staying here. With everything this place offers, the price is very reasonable, and we were completely satisfied in every way. Thank you very much. We are grateful for this wonderful connection.

    Very delicious.

The meals were outstanding. I chose this Accommodation because it’s close to the Otsuka Museum of Art, but the food was so good that it truly recharged me after walking around the museum all day. At the dinner buffet, every fish dish—sea bream, tuna, sweetfish—was delicious, and I was genuinely impressed. It was a dream menu for seafood lovers. Breakfast was just as great; the sea bream ochazuke was exceptional. Even though I came for museum-hopping, more than half of my memories ended up being about amazing seafood. All the staff were kind, the baths were spacious and relaxing, and I had a very comfortable stay. I’m really glad I stayed here.

    The moment I entered...

The moment I entered the room, I thought, “Huh? Is that a toilet smell?”—a bad feeling right away. The sound of the waves and the close-up view of the Naruto Kaikyo Bridge from the window helped me reset. However, dinner brought my mood down again. Maybe what I picked first just wasn’t good by chance, but the sashimi was nothing like the delicious sea bream, yellowtail, and bonito I enjoyed in Uwajima, Matsuyama, and Kochi on this trip. The meat was cold, and the salt-grilled ayu was hard and dry. I was so disappointed that I didn’t even go back for something else. We left our table early. I didn’t expect too much since it’s a buffet, but for over 20,000 yen per person this didn’t feel acceptable. With such an excellent location close to attractions like the Naruto whirlpools and Otsuka Museum of Art, I sincerely hope management will listen to guest feedback and make improvements.

    Mr. Taimaru was wonderful.

I was moved to see the Naruto Bridge from my Room. The Room was clean, and all the staff were friendly. I was also satisfied to visit the Otsuka Museum of Art and see the whirlpools. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

I want fruit, and a fan too.

Overall, I think the meals were better than satisfactory, but I gave 4 stars because the soup was not hot enough and there was no fruit. There is no fan in the bathroom, and the ventilation is insufficient, so the humidity is terrible. There was black mold in many places on the walls.

    A standard tourist area Hotel

The rating scale uses luxury hotels as the benchmark for a perfect score, so it’s not bad. Dinner is a buffet with a wide variety of options, and they’ve put in effort, but the selection is more on the budget-friendly side. I would prefer if the room rate were increased by ¥3,000 or even ¥5,000, and in return the meals were upgraded to a more luxurious menu.

A Small Accommodation by the Sea

I stayed at the closest accommodation to the Otsuka Museum of Art. For dinner, a shuttle service took us to a larger affiliated accommodation where we enjoyed a buffet. The staff were very attentive, and the seafood was delicious. The large public bath offered a view of the ocean, which was very relaxing. While the building itself is not very new, it was clean and reasonably priced, making for a satisfying stay. My first trip to Shikoku turned out to be an incredibly enjoyable experience.

    Long time no see!

It was a long time since my last visit to Taimaru. At the time of Reservation, I noticed that the previous sea bream cuisine restaurant was no longer available, so this time I tried the buffet at Naruto Grand Hotel for the first time. The buffet content was satisfying. The staff promptly cleared used plates, which showed great attention to detail. If I may make one suggestion, it would be nice to have kimchi available. With ingredients like baby octopus and sea bream already provided, it could be fun to create a seafood-style Korean hot pot (Nakgopsae). As it gets colder, having Korean hot pots on the menu might also be a great addition. The front desk and breakfast service at Taimaru were handled by foreign staff members who explained everything politely and thoroughly. I would love to stay again!

A tranquil place requiring detailed confirmation with the Hotel.

Staff: Very polite and welcoming atmosphere. Facility: Slightly old but well-maintained through renovations. Bath: Clean, but disappointing in terms of showcasing the scenic views that the hotel promotes (e.g., noticeable safety railings, visible mesh on fences, obstructive film applied to areas with bridge views, and indoor bath seating positioned in a way that blocks the view of the bridge). Guests can also use the large communal baths and open-air baths at a sister property during dinner hours, which is an excellent system. The surrounding area is tranquil; enjoying stargazing from the open-air bath is highly recommended. Room: The room allocation seems puzzling as it does not focus on providing views of the bridge for most rooms but rather categorizes them into sea-side or mountain-side options. I chose a sea-side room, but viewing the bridge required leaning out of an open window—quite disappointing. It’s advisable to confirm details with the accommodation beforehand. While slightly dated, facilities have been renovated and are kept very clean. However, it was unfortunate that the air conditioning was old and not very effective. Meals: Fruit selection was unavailable; confirming this with accommodation beforehand might be necessary. For dinner, I opted for a buffet at a nearby sister property where dishes like sea bream sashimi were delicious but lacked uniqueness—likely wouldn’t choose this option again next time as I skipped in-room dining for this buffet. Overall: A good accommodation experience overall!

A Ryokan near the Otsuka Museum of Art

I stayed at the accommodation to visit the Otsuka Museum of Art. The meals were delicious and satisfying. The dinner buffet had a wide variety of dishes, with seafood being particularly exquisite. At check-in, I was warmly greeted with "Thank you for coming from afar today," which made me happy. I was provided with a room overlooking the sea, and the view was truly soothing. Thank you very much!

Dinner at the annex was convenient with a Shuttle Service, making travel hassle-free. The food was delicious and very enjoyable. Breakfast, including sea bream chazuke, was excellent and highly satisfying. The bath did not have any particularly unique features but was more than sufficient for relaxing and relieving fatigue.

I would love to visit again.

The staff were very kind. We enjoyed a seafood dinner to our heart's content. At night, we stepped outside and looked up at the stars, seeing a sky filled with stars unlike anything we usually see.

    Room bath and air conditioning

The bathroom in the Room was newly renovated and clean, allowing for a relaxing soak while listening to the sound of the ocean through the open window. Opening the curtains made the bathroom fully visible from the bedroom. The air conditioner had an unpleasant smell, making it difficult to sleep.

You can enjoy various types of baths.

We enjoyed three different baths at the affiliated accommodations. Although it was not an onsen, the view of the sea was lovely. The room was clean and tidy. However, the futon was extremely thin, and there was no mattress, which made it uncomfortable. The meals offered a wide variety of options but were typical buffet quality. The soft sea bream sashimi left an impression; however, as I prefer firmer textures, it was a bit disappointing. The steak, on the other hand, was delicious. This time we made a reservation for four people with my parents but had to reduce it to two due to health issues after explaining our situation. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and paid a cancellation fee of 50% as requested. For trips involving elderly family members, such strict policies make this accommodation less suitable for us in the future—a regrettable decision. Interestingly enough, at another accommodation we stayed at the following day—despite having stricter cancellation policies—they kindly waived all fees after hearing our circumstances and handled things flexibly with great hospitality that made us want to return again. We tried our best not to cause any trouble but realized we need to be even more cautious moving forward. Thanks to this experience during our trip—it became quite educational overall. Thank you very much!

    It was great.

We stayed at Naruto Kaigetsu on the second day of our trip with family, including my daughter, her spouse, and grandchildren, traveling from Kochi in Shikoku to Tokushima and Awaji. We made a reservation for one night with two meals included. Although we didn't have high expectations due to a disappointing experience at the previous accommodation, we were deeply impressed by the staff's hospitality and the quality of the buffet dinner. It was an excellent hotel. When visiting Naruto again, I will definitely make a reservation here and recommend this hotel to my acquaintances as well. Thank you to all the staff!

    Thank you for your patronage.

The flight from Haneda was delayed on the day, so we couldn't arrive in Naruto at the perfect time for the whirlpools. Since it was also windy, we visited the Otsuka Museum of Art instead. The accommodation was nearby, which helped as we walked a lot. Two days prior had been a full moon, so we could see the shining moon and its path reflected on the water. It turned out to be a very relaxing time. Thank you for your hospitality.

    The staff is excellent!

I chose this place because it is close to the Otsuka Museum of Art and reasonably priced, but it exceeded my expectations. First, the staff's cheerful and pleasant service was outstanding. I believe this welcoming atmosphere has been cultivated by all the staff together. Both breakfast and dinner were well thought out and impressive for this price range. I would love to stay here again if I have another opportunity. Thank you very much!

The view of the Naruto Bridge and the sea is wonderful, and there is good access to the Otsuka Museum of Art. The staff are also kind, and I enjoyed the buffet at the sister hotel. The fresh sashimi and Awaodori chicken were particularly delicious. The view from the large public bath was also nice, but the Room's bath was separate from the toilet and quite spacious.

    It was clean.

I chose this Ryokan because it had the best reviews in the area. It also appeared in local commercials, so I thought it must be a popular property. The facility was old, but the cleanliness was good, and I had a pleasant stay; however, there were some disappointing aspects. There is a part leaking rainwater in front of the bathhouse. There were parts where the wallpaper was peeling off and mold stains were emerging everywhere; it was disappointing that areas that could be fixed with DIY were left as they were, but because cleaning was done very well, these issues stood out. The meal was kaiseki-style, but some dishes felt more like those from a Japanese family restaurant than from a Ryokan. It might be the best they can do for the price range. The onsen facility had three bathtubs; however, I wonder if all of them used onsen water? The open-air bath had too much chlorine which made my body itchy. It offers an excellent location with views of Naruto Bridge from your room.

    It was excellent.

It was a very nice Hotel. The Hotel staff and the bus driver were all very courteous. The Room was spacious and clean. Dinner was at a different Hotel, so we traveled by bus, but there was no particular problem. However, there was a 90-minute limit for meals, and although all the dishes were delicious and I wanted to try various things, I felt rushed. That was the only disappointment. Younger people may not eat as much, but I believe that one of the pleasures of travel is to enjoy delicious meals at a leisurely pace. However, we were able to use the bath at the dinner venue Hotel, which was very nice. Breakfast was at the restaurant on the first floor without having to move. It was very well thought out and delicious. I will visit again.

5-minute walk to the art museum.

The Western-style room is spacious with twin beds. It was cleaner than expected, but perhaps due to the old construction, the lighting was glaring on the face. If turned off, the room becomes completely dark. Compared to other hotels stayed at later, this aspect was less impressive. It was nice to have a room facing the sea, but in the morning, light sleepers might be bothered by the sound of cars passing by on the road. The TV has only 4 channels. I'm not fond of Japanese food, but since it's just one night, I'll endure. Dinner was at the Grand Hotel by bus. The buffet had a wide variety, and I was almost satisfied. The grilled sweetfish was good. It's understandable that the steak was served chopped on small plates, but it was overcooked, which was disappointing. I wish it were medium rare. The large public bath at the Grand Hotel is also available. The same view as in the photos of the Taimaru's large public bath was in the morning for the women's bath. The old key was inconvenient to open and close. There was no explanation at check-in, so I was turning the key even when closing. I wish they had mentioned it was auto-lock. There was also no explanation about the option to choose the type of yukata. - Breakfast: I was prepared for a Japanese breakfast that I'm not fond of, but unexpectedly, I was able to finish it. Nine small dishes are served on a tray. It's more SDGs than a buffet. However, it was disappointing that the bamboo chikuwa and fish fry were served cold. There was also a small pot for one person, and something like a cross between mochi and hanpen was delicious. No salad or fruit. It was nice to be able to take coffee back to the room. Although there is a shuttle bus, it only goes as far as Naruto Station or the Naruto Highway Bus Stop, and the timing doesn't match the flight schedule, so I planned to use all local buses (and wait 20 minutes for a transfer at Naruto Station). However, I missed the bus at the airport and had to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes (it was nice that there were comics in the free waiting room). It's convenient that the bus stop is almost right in front. Advance tickets for the museum can be purchased (140 yen discount).

    The meal was good.

I stayed on the ocean view side, but you can't really see the sea at night, haha. It was nice in the morning and evening. However, at night, I could see the bridge, so I was able to relax while thinking it was beautiful. Meals were available at the main building? So we moved by bus. It was all-you-can-eat, and the sashimi was delicious. There was something like a personal hot pot, so I put the sashimi in it for shabu-shabu. The simmered dishes were also extremely delicious. I wished there were more fruits for dessert. The cakes weren't that tasty, but the waffles were the only delicious ones. The coffee was good, but the hot roasted green tea was the best. Fried foods were refreshing and perfect when eaten with pickled plums. I was very satisfied! The futon was laid out while we went for dinner. Then, I went to the bath, and it was a private state!!! It was great. But, I thought it was completely visible from outside!? The cloth draped over the railing of the open-air bath was so thin and flimsy. I also entered in the morning, but I thought it would definitely be visible from the nearby Hotel. Also, there were too many spiders. I don't know if it was because of the futon when I slept, but I woke up at four in the morning and couldn't stop sneezing. I thought it might be different if I washed my body, so I took a bath in the Room, and it somehow got better, but when I returned to the Room, I couldn't stop sneezing again. Even after eating breakfast and entering the large public bath (it was also a private state in the morning!), I sneezed when I returned to the Room. I can only think that the futon didn't suit me, whether it was dust or mites. After that, I kept sneezing until night, probably because I wore the clothes I left in the Room. It was tough because I have allergies. I would like the futon to be rolled with a lint roller even in unused Rooms. *Sorry if it was already done. The food was delicious, and the art museum was a five-minute walk away! This was the best. It would have been terrible without this. The bus driver was also kind, and when I was wandering around the shop on the way back from dinner, he kindly called out to me, and I was able to get on and return immediately. Thank you for your hospitality.

    This was my second stay.

This time, dinner was a buffet at the nearby Naruto Grand Hotel. The shuttle bus was convenient and nice. Last time, I was very satisfied with the sea bream course meal, so I went with high expectations. There was a wide variety of sashimi, and the tempura was hot and fresh. The ginger-simmered chicken liver was also delicious, but it was disappointing that the grilled sweetfish was overcooked and rock hard. I think it would be better if it was served hot and fluffy, preserving the quality of the ingredients. The staff were kind and pleasant.

    Consecutive nights stay

I stayed for consecutive nights. It was a dinner buffet at the Grand Hotel, but I was disappointed that the menu was the same every day. I would have been happy if there were some changes or additions to the menu... I will use it again.
