Visiting during the Obon holiday period with my grandchild.
During the Obon holiday period, I was looking after my grandchild and searched for a nearby Hotel where a 2-year-old could play. We stayed in a family Room created in collaboration with Miki House. While the Hotel’s structure is undeniably old, it has been beautifully renovated and we had a very comfortable stay. The children’s pool inside the Hotel, the slide and jungle gym set up in the Room, toys such as building blocks, and the evening festival-style event all delighted my grandchild. Dinner was served in our Room so we could relax without worrying about others, and the breakfast buffet offered delicious dishes made with local ingredients in a restaurant with a great view. This was an especially recommended Hotel for families traveling with children. Thank you very much.

We were extremely satisfied with this accommodation.
Right in front of us was the ocean! It was a Japanese-style Room, but it was very spacious and the three of us could sleep comfortably. We could see a beautiful bay right in front of us. The Facility is old, but we were very satisfied with the hospitality and the food, which more than made up for it. The vegetables grown on their own farm were so delicious that we ordered them online. There was also more sashimi than we could finish. We were able to eat slowly in a private dining room. It was our child’s birthday, and they were thrilled to receive a surprise gift. The next day, we could walk to the beach. We would like to come back again in summer. ・A few things we noticed After check-in, we wanted to relax and have a drink since there is a lounge, but the attendant quickly urged us to go to our Room, so we felt rushed and it was disappointing. The garden area by the open-air bath on the 5th floor had overgrown grass, so I think it would be nice if that were kept tidy. We would like to visit again.

The guest room and the Facility overall felt a bit dated, but everything was well cleaned and maintained, so I rated it 4. The meals were all delicious. The simmered sea bream in particular was so good that I even sucked the bones clean. As for the bath, since it is not free-flowing from the source but uses added water/heating and a recirculating filtration system, I’d rate it a 3—though the water was clean. Many long-established Ryokan in Sumoto have aging Facilities and don’t have a large volume of Onsen water, so I wasn’t expecting too much in that regard, but I think this place is well above average.

A luxurious, hearty meal—highly satisfying!
This was my first trip to Awaji Island. Since I made the Reservation the day before, we were assigned a mountain-side Room, but I’m glad we decided to come. The meals included a sashimi platter with spiny lobster, grilled abalone on a hot plate, Awaji beef shabu-shabu, and many other dishes. The breakfast buffet also had a wide variety, and I ended up taking too much. Everything was delicious and I was very satisfied. As mentioned in other Reviews, the unit bath/toilet in the Room had a sewage smell. Also, at the large public bath on the 5th floor, a fairly large tile next to the shower drain had come loose and shifted, exposing the base underneath—it seemed dangerous. These two points were disappointing. However, the staff’s welcome and guidance, as well as their service during meals, were very pleasant. I felt sad at checkout time, but a female foreign staff member carried our luggage to the entrance and saw us off. Next time I’d like to stay on the ocean side!

Choosing Kaigetsukan was the right decision.
Since the next day was my husband’s birthday, we treated ourselves and stayed on 4/28 with in-room dining. The fresh sashimi, richly flavored Awaji beef, tender abalone, simmered sea bream head, and sea bream rice were all delicious—it became an unforgettable day. The attendant was very kind and even told us where to shop the next day, which made us happy. We also received a gift from the Accommodation. Choosing Kaigetsukan from among so many Accommodations was absolutely the right decision.

We were completely satisfied—and absolutely full!
We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay. The meals were delicious on both days and very generous in portion size. The staff were incredibly kind, and when we mentioned on the first day that we were also celebrating our wedding, they congratulated us during dinner on the second day. We were truly happy—thank you so much! The Onsen left our skin feeling wonderfully smooth. The complimentary drinks and after-bath ice cream service were great, and we could use the mini fridge freely. The morning buffet was excellent as well—seafood, fresh vegetables, Western-style dishes, and pudding were all delicious, and we enjoyed plenty. The bath was spacious, and with the fluffy futon bedding we slept very well. It was a very comfortable Accommodation. The kamameshi at dinner was especially luxurious—the sea bream and octopus were said to be locally caught nearby. Some reviews mention negatives such as the age of the Facility, but after staying there ourselves, it felt like a minor issue. Thanks to the wonderful hospitality and meals, our 30th wedding anniversary became an unforgettable memory. Thank you again. We would love to visit again!

I visited to recover...
I visited to recover from the fatigue of the New Year festivities. There were many children, and while breakfast was plentiful, the noise from crying children made it hard to relax. However, I received attentive service from the hostess, which I believe is one of the secrets behind this accommodation's popularity—truly impressive. That said, I was disappointed by young Asian staff members chatting loudly in groups in hallways and near preparation rooms. Their boisterous behavior disrupted the atmosphere. This is not a communal lodging facility; proper training in such matters is important. Additionally, the weak water pressure in the onsen showers detracted from an otherwise enjoyable bathing experience. On a positive note, I was satisfied with the meals provided. Considering its reasonable pricing and hospitality, it's hard to complain too much about luxury expectations.

I am full.
It was my first trip to Awaji Island, and everywhere I went, there was an abundance of delicious food. At Kaigetsukan, both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, leaving me completely full—something that rarely happens. I ate so much at dinner that I could only manage about half of the breakfast buffet. It was a shame because there were still so many appetizing dishes left to try.

Meals are hearty and satisfying!
The room was very clean, with a separate bath and toilet (not an Onsen, but the large public bath was an Onsen). The room was on the second floor, and since the building seemed slightly lower than the road, people walking by could see directly into the window. However, you could enjoy a diagonal view of the sea and a beautiful sunrise. Dinner portions were generous to the point of being hard to finish, and everything was incredibly delicious. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of dishes. However, condiments were only available at their respective dish stations; it would have been nice to have basics like soy sauce, salt, or sauce at each table or in a separate area.

Excellent meals and service.
I had read that the facility was old, but since it seemed family-friendly, we decided to stay here. The facility is indeed old, but it gave the impression of being well-maintained. We stayed in a room with a private bath, and both the room and the bath were very new, bright, and spacious. It was a trip with three generations of our family, and everyone was delighted. Even in standard rooms, they provided child chairs and offered additional dinner menu options for children, which was very helpful. The meals were luxurious and delicious at night—very filling—and the breakfast buffet had an impressive variety and quality that made our family very happy. Baby food as well as children's tableware and chairs were available too, making it a stress-free accommodation for families with small children. The fact that it's right in front of a beach was also a big plus! We are already talking about wanting to stay here again as a family!

Family-friendly satisfaction
The Room is old, but the amenities, pillows, and futons were comfortable. Having two towels per person was very helpful. Dinner was meat-focused, delicious, and so plentiful that we couldn't finish it all—completely satisfying. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of options. The pudding dessert was a family favorite. From start to finish, the staff's hospitality was outstanding and made for wonderful memories. We would love to stay again!

Child-Friendly Accommodation
I stayed in a room with an onsen bath and enjoyed the stay with my daughter and grandchild. The view from the open window while soaking in the onsen was absolutely stunning. My 3-and-a-half-year-old grandchild loved it so much that even after returning home, they kept saying they wanted to bathe in the round bath with grandma again. The meals were abundant, featuring fresh seafood and onions, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Even breakfast included a variety of dishes, including desserts, leaving us completely satisfied. The Ryokan staff were warm and kind towards children, making our stay even more pleasant. I would love to visit again if I have the chance. Thank you for such a wonderful time! Lastly, it would be great if the UFO catcher in the game corner was a bit easier to win (laughs).

With Children
This was my first time staying here! The Miki House supervised Room was great for my 1-year-old twins, with a jungle gym and toys that made them very happy! However, the DVD player didn’t work, and the baby guard on the shelf to prevent children from opening it was broken. I asked the Hotel staff if they could fix it, but they seemed busy and didn’t respond... Other than that, everything was good!

The room should be set according to Mikihouse Childcare Research Institute.
We were looking for a nearby onsen to visit with our 1.5-year-old grandchild and found a "Mikihouse Parenting Research Institute Certified/Kids Room Style Japanese-Western Room." The room had a slide and jungle gym, so we thought it was perfect and made the reservation. After being shown to the room and receiving an explanation, we asked, "Where is the slide?" only to be told, "It broke recently, so it's not available now. Sorry." It was very disappointing as we chose this place because our grandchild loves slides. Upon departure, we received a survey asking for feedback that would reach the manager. We wrote about how disappointed we were that there was no slide but received no response. This attitude of not addressing issues unless asked or hoping they go unnoticed will not lead to improvement in the future. The staff seemed dedicated and hardworking, so I believe this is an issue with management. Additionally, although we booked without bedding for our child, bedding was provided anyway, resulting in an extra charge of 2,200 yen which felt unsatisfactory. The view from the room overlooking Sumoto Castle and the sea was excellent. The meals were served in-room as kaiseki cuisine featuring luxurious dishes like spiny lobster and seafood shabu-shabu; it was too much food to finish but very delicious nonetheless. The onsen had an open-air bath; however, it lacked views due to surrounding walls which was disappointing. Breakfast offered a buffet with many options including steak and sashimi in the morning which surprised us. Outside the hotel is a beach where you can take walks—an excellent location as a resort hotel overall!

We stayed here to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The 10-tatami mat Japanese-style room comfortably accommodated five adults, and the ocean view from the window was stunning and relaxing. The orange Yubeshi sweets prepared in the room were soft, chewy, and delicious. Since we had a late lunch, the staff quickly adjusted our dinner time and even accommodated last-minute changes in the number of guests. We had a wonderful family time. The meals were plentiful—almost too much to finish! The meat was tender, and both the sashimi and steamed chicken were incredibly tasty. The sweet onions were soft and flavorful as well. When we asked if we could take some Warabi Mochi dessert for a late-night snack, they kindly prepared it on a tray for us. Next time, we'll come more prepared to fully enjoy dinner (laughs). The Onsen experience was delightful as well; with men's and women's baths switching locations between night and morning, we got to enjoy both settings thoroughly. After soaking in the morning bath, we headed to breakfast—a buffet offering an extensive variety of Japanese and Western dishes that made it hard to choose what to eat first! Starting my day with sashimi felt like such a treat. My favorite was probably the fisherman's rice bowl—I couldn't resist going back for seconds! There were also chirashi sushi bowls, soups filled with island vegetables, fresh salads—all absolutely satisfying. The bread selection was impressive too; there were pancakes along with desserts like pudding, yogurt, fruits—it was so fun choosing from everything available! Enjoying breakfast while taking in views of Sumoto Castle (which wasn’t visible during dinner) along with serene ocean scenery made for such a peaceful start to our day. Next time I’d love more leisurely walks around the hotel area or perhaps an extended stay altogether! Thank you so much to all staff members for providing us with such wonderful memories!

I used the Baby Plan.
- No baby food is sold at the shop. It is recommended to bring your own baby food. - Baby food for breakfast is only available for 7-month and 9-month-olds. Dinner was luxurious and very delicious, and the open-air bath attached to the room was very nice. It was a good property for a first-time stay and onsen debut together. Regarding amenities, only one set of skincare products is provided for women. There are no such amenities in the large public bath or guest rooms, so it is necessary to bring your own.

Safe even for small children
It was our first trip with our one-year-old twins. When our child became unwell just before the trip, we were grateful for the willingness to change the dates. The Japanese-Western style Room was spacious enough for a family with children. We were relieved that there were no dangerous items within the children's reach. From the window, we could view the sea, mountains, and Sumoto Castle, and we were soothed by the clear blue sky and the sunrise. We enjoyed a leisurely meal of seafood in the Room, and the staff kindly spoke to our children. We appreciated the availability of 80-size yukata and the rental of a baby bath. The breakfast venue was lively with families, and the dessert pudding was delicious. The smiles of our happy children, the blue sky and sea of Awaji Island, and the delicious meals made it a memorable and wonderful trip. Thank you very much.^^

It was quiet and relaxing.
I made the reservation based on the price and the review. The breakfast was satisfactory, but the dinner was a bit disappointing (perhaps unavoidable at this price?). If there is a next time, I will have dinner elsewhere and only stay for breakfast.

Regarding the 3:00 PM check-in policy
If you arrive before 3 PM, it's understandable to wait on the sofa in front of the lobby, but it's unpleasant to be delayed despite waiting early when there are more than 10 groups and no organization during busy times. A provisional reception system should be considered in order of arrival. Since it is a well-regarded property for its delicious meals, I use it regularly and would like to see improvements.

Dinner time limit
Lunch took from 11:30 to 15:00, which delayed our travel plans from Osaka. Upon inquiring with the hotel, we were informed that we needed to arrive by 19:00 to make it in time for dinner. Although we wanted to request around 20:00, it was unavoidable. As expected, we couldn't enjoy dinner as much, and what was supposed to be an enjoyable dinner turned out to be difficult. While it was partly our responsibility for having a long lunch, it would have been perfect if the menu focused on quality over volume with smaller portions. The next morning's breakfast was in buffet style with a wide variety of options, which was very satisfying. On our next visit, we might opt for breakfast only and consider choosing the steakhouse on the premises for dinner.

Not recommended for stays with children.
We stayed as a family of four with two toddlers. The deciding factors were that the children could stay safely with a large kids' space in the room, and the layout allowed adults to relax on the sofa at night. However, the air conditioner in the main space was broken and could not be repaired. While breakdowns are unavoidable, it was only after we requested that they brought us a single fan from the annex. The children wanted to touch the fan, and it was even hotter without it, which was sad. Especially since our younger son developed a heat rash, we wanted to let him play freely in a cool place. We were also given the key and told, "Please use the next room," but that room had no kids' space, no private bath, and it smelled of tobacco, so it was likely a smoking room. We were looking forward to relaxing and having a drink as a couple in a cool room at night, so it was very disappointing that we couldn't. The in-room dinner and buffet breakfast were very delicious, and the view was nice. It wasn't the air conditioner's breakdown itself, but the response from Kaigetsukan that was very disappointing. (There was no partial refund or anything.)

A slightly disappointing ryokan
I traveled with my elderly parents, and the dining room was very spacious with a large table, and the seating arrangement was such that the distance between us was about two meters. Even at a company reception, if there was such a distance, it would feel like "sharing a table with strangers." It was difficult to talk with my parents who have hearing issues, and we couldn't pass around the boat-shaped platter. How did they come up with such an arrangement? Was there no other room available? If not, I would have appreciated an explanation. The staff varied greatly, with some being very attentive and others not so much. Also, the room had an open-air bath, but the wood was rotten, and I was afraid it might break when opening the window. It was visibly rotten, so I hope they repair it urgently before someone gets injured. The food wasn't bad, but overall the seasoning was strong, and it felt like it was pre-made, which was a bit disappointing. It left an impression of being a slightly disappointing and peculiar inn. While the building's age can't be helped immediately, I believe the service aspect can be improved in many ways...

Very satisfied.
The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable to stay in. Both dinner and breakfast were very hearty, and I couldn't finish my dinner... I'm sorry. The taste was amazing. I will definitely use this place again.
