    Accommodation with Delicious Cuisine

    As it is a historic and old accommodation, the floor near the window was slightly slanted. The garden view is naturally better from the upper-level room than from above. It seems that there is no air conditioning in the shared area on the second floor of the main building, as I felt heat starting from halfway up the stairs from the lobby. Even with some minor dissatisfaction, all concerns disappeared after dinner. I had read reviews about how delicious the meals were, and they were absolutely true. During this trip, I stayed at two other accommodations; one of them featured meals produced by an award-winning individual, but this place surpassed that experience. It’s an accommodation worth revisiting just for its food.

    Excellent!

    As mentioned in other reviews, the accommodation was impeccably clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasant stay. All the meals were delicious and carefully prepared. The staff always greeted us with warm smiles. If visiting Lake Suwa, this is definitely a place I would love to return to.

    A unique accommodation with no reception at check-in time

    This time, I am writing on behalf of my husband. On April 21st, we arrived by car at 3 PM, the check-in time. It was our first stay here, and we couldn’t find the parking area or any signs for guidance. With no other choice, we climbed the stairs and entered through the main entrance. However, there was no one around. I called out "Excuse me," but there was no response. After raising my voice again, a man finally appeared. He guided us to the parking area but then started heading back to the entrance without offering further assistance. In a hurry, I asked him to help carry our luggage. Having stayed in over 200 accommodations across the whole country before this visit, I had always been greeted with a warm "Welcome." During our trip to Kyoto last month at Tawaraya Ryokan, we were given an enthusiastic welcome and send-off as well—so this experience came as quite a shock to me. Although I became quite displeased initially due to my lack of patience in such situations, A-san (who replaced the man after he called her) provided very polite and sincere service that saved our impression of this place. The room we were shown into was “Asuka,” which had been renovated and allowed us a comfortable stay overall; meals were also satisfactory for most parts! Additionally seeing Princess Kazunomiya’s historical room added value alongside admiring their beautiful garden scenery too! It felt unfortunate how initial impressions left negative marks despite these redeeming qualities later on (a friend suggested staff shortages might explain things?). Incidentally speaking—the first gentleman who appeared seemed managerial based on subsequent observations—but if true? The contrast between his demeanor versus A-san's professionalism felt far too stark!

    The garden is magnificent.

    The neighboring Honjin Iwanami Residence was originally part of the same large estate, connected under one roof. Both gardens are magnificent—be sure to compare them!

    A quiet and pleasant accommodation with delicious meals.

    This accommodation is conveniently located within walking distance of Suwa Taisha Akimiya and surrounded by refreshing air. The staff are always courteous, making each stay a pleasant experience. The head chef's menu is visually stunning and crafted with thoughtful attention to detail, leaving us impressed every time. I look forward to bringing my daughters and their families here in the future. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Both the meals and service were excellent.

    We stayed here as a pre-stay for our visit to Utsukushigahara Highlands. The building is historic and old, but the staff provided warm and pleasant hospitality with smiles. With only 9 groups staying, we could enjoy a relaxing bath and delicious meals in a private dining room. If we visit Shimosuwa again, we would definitely like to stay here.

    Always satisfied.

    I have been visiting every six months for about 10 years now, and I always feel "I'm glad I chose this place." If I had to point out an issue, it would be the air conditioner's temperature control. It's not that it's old or difficult to operate, but the temperature control is not stable.

    It was a wonderful Ryokan with a traditional atmosphere.

    I was hesitant to make a reservation, thinking it might be an old-style Ryokan, but it turned out to be the best Ryokan in every aspect. I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath, and the onsen bath was also wonderful, allowing me to fully enjoy the onsen experience. What was particularly impressive was the food. Both dinner and breakfast were served in appropriate portions, with a light flavor that suited my taste, allowing me to thoroughly enjoy the dishes. The cuisine was elegant, combining fish, vegetables, and meat in a very good balance. The person who brought and explained the dishes was also very kind and provided detailed explanations for each dish. If I were to express just one wish, it would be that, given the location right next to Akimiya, it would be even better if the checkout time could be extended to 11:00 to allow for more time to explore. But it was truly a satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    I had a pleasant stay.

    The building is old, but it is perfectly cleaned in every corner, and there wasn't a speck of dust even on the screens. The food was also very delicious, beautifully presented, and we savored it slowly. The staff are very pleasant, making it a Ryokan where anyone can stay with peace of mind. It became a good memory.     Elegant and Beloved Japanese-style Ryokan

    I use it as a stopover during my trip to Nagano. It is a well-balanced historical Ryokan where you can stay relaxed without being too formal, despite its calm appearance. You can view Suwa Taisha from the room, and there is a refreshing atmosphere. The cuisine is elegant, beautiful, and delicious. The Onsen is small but pleasantly warm. You can spend a leisurely time blending into the quiet townscape. Everyone at the property is very kind, making the stay pleasant. This time, my daughter's fiancé visited Japan from America for the first time and was very impressed with the beauty of the property. It became a memorable stay, and I am grateful. We received a Goshuincho for Diamond members for the whole family and visited Suwa Taisha together. Thank you very much. We will visit again, so please take care of us. It was a stay that became a wonderful memory in every way. Thank you.

    Recommended for adults' Stays.

    Thank you for welcoming us in the rain when we arrived at the parking lot and for your courteous guidance. The amount of food was just right for a couple in their 60s, and we enjoyed it while admiring the beautiful garden. We were also given a sightseeing guide for the next day, which allowed us to depart comfortably. There was also an exhibition of replicas that were featured on the TV show "Nandemo Kanteidan," and I thought it could be promoted a bit more. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
