This stay was honest...
This stay was honestly very disappointing. I understood that the Facility is old, but the Room cleaning and maintenance were beyond what could be excused as simply “old.” Dust was noticeable in the Room, there were cobwebs on the windows, and the furniture and chairs were heavily worn. In the bathroom as well, dark stains and grime were visible around the bathtub, near the drain, and along seams where surfaces meet, which made me concerned about hygiene. There was also an extremely strong odor from the moment I entered the Room, and I felt sick right away. The smell continued to bother me throughout my stay, making it impossible to relax comfortably in the Room. It wasn’t just “slightly noticeable”—it was strong enough to cause immediate discomfort as soon as I walked in. In addition, the air conditioning did not work effectively, and I experienced itchiness during my stay, so I could not spend my time comfortably. The meals also did not meet my expectations. I had been looking forward to my trip to Hokkaido, and since the Hotel I stayed at the night before was excellent, I was surprised by how large a difference there was between properties. Because Lake Toya is such a wonderful destination, I would like you to address Room cleaning more thoroughly and improve equipment maintenance and odor issues. I also have photos that I took of the condition of this Room. Some aspects may be difficult to convey through photos alone, but I hope you will review them to confirm its condition. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. I would appreciate it if IKYU could also verify the actual condition of this Room.

Our three-generation...
Our three-generation family had a wonderful time together. The kids really enjoyed the pool, fireworks, and the arcade. The newly renovated Onsen was also beautiful and brought back nostalgic memories from my own childhood.

Excellent dining.
The meals were tastier than expected. The bath was spacious, and it was great that there were fireworks as well. Unfortunately, we ended up staying at the same time as a large group of Chinese guests, and their poor manners and loud noise were quite unpleasant. I guess it can’t be helped?

The large public bath is nice, but
The Room we were assigned was terrible. We chose a lake-side Room to enjoy the lake view and fireworks, but the windows were extremely dirty. Even while watching the fireworks, the dirt on the glass reflected and ruined the experience. The mirror in the in-room bath was moldy, and the bathtub itself had peeling coating and was damaged. One person wanted to use the in-room bath, but it was so unclean they couldn’t bathe and had to put up with it. I felt sorry for them. I was shocked that even booking through IKYU could result in being assigned such an awful Room.

Having only one Room...
Having only one Room key was very inconvenient. On the day we stayed, it seemed relatively quiet, so we were able to take our time with both the meals and the bath, which was nice. Also, the refrigerator is broken.

The open-air bath offered breathtaking views.
I stayed here for the first time last year, and the Onsen and sauna were so great that I came back again after a year. As always, the Onsen and sauna were excellent! The disappointing part was that the Room was dirty. When I first entered, there was a fairly large piece of trash on the floor. There was mold in the bathtub in the Room, to the point where it felt scary to even take a shower. I didn’t notice this last time, but it felt like I got an unlucky randomly assigned Room this time. The meals are buffet-style and you get what you pay for, so no complaints there. I love baths and saunas, so I’ll come again.

This Hotel offers great value for money.
The baths are excellent, the meals are average, and the building and interiors are quite old with no renovations. Only one room key is provided. That’s why it’s inexpensive. If you’re looking for cleanliness and a more luxurious feel, I recommend the new wing (Lake no Sumika). The Shuttle Service bus from Sapporo is appreciated, but the inside of the bus is unbearably hot. Even in midwinter, it’s better to prepare for heat rather than cold before boarding. Everyone seemed to be suffering, and I also felt quite unwell.

All good overall.
The room key and some peeling on the hallway walls showed a bit of age, but the view from the bath and in front of the reception was stunning. It would have been better if the buffet closing time was extended a little longer. One of the women cleaning up at the buffet seemed clearly upset. The noise from clearing dishes was quite loud, making us wonder jokingly if she had just gone through a breakup. While we understand that staff members have their challenges, it did affect our dining experience negatively.

The public bath and meals were excellent.
The large public bath and meals were excellent, and when we requested a window-side view, we were promptly accommodated. The lobby had been beautifully renovated, but the hallway and wallpaper in the room showed their age. However, the nightly fireworks event during our stay was stunningly visible from both the lobby and our room. I called multiple times about Shuttle Service starting two weeks prior to our stay but kept getting an automated message saying to "call back later." Even after changing times and days, I only managed to get through two days before arrival. By then, I was told that Shuttle Service to Sapporo Station was fully booked. As a result, I had no choice but to purchase express train tickets. Additionally, while there is Shuttle Service available for Sapporo Station, there is none for nearby Toya Station. Public buses run only about once an hour or less in this area, making access inconvenient. Ultimately, we had to take a taxi which cost approximately 2,500 yen for a 15-minute ride. It would have been helpful if at least Shuttle Service to Toya Station could be provided. Perhaps due to concerns about guests taking towels home with them, each guest is provided with just one face towel and one bath towel; however, there were no hand towels in the Room itself. My husband and I ended up sharing one face towel alternately when using the bath facilities—this was disappointing given how great the baths themselves were. According to my husband’s observation of other guests: some foreign visitors seemed unaware that towels weren’t provided in the bathing area itself; they returned soaking wet wearing yukatas after their baths as a result. Additionally noted by my husband: some male guests engaged openly in smartphone photography sessions within shared bathing areas—a behavior he felt might be considered inappropriate or against proper etiquette standards here!

The public bath is excellent, but the Room is old.
The Room felt old and had an unpleasant smell. The bathroom and washroom also showed noticeable mold and odors, lacking a sense of cleanliness. The buffet area was crowded, making it difficult to find a seat, so guidance would have been appreciated. However, the lobby and large public bath were clean, with the public bath being particularly high-quality, offering great views for relaxation. It felt unfortunate that the Room did not match the quality of the excellent Facility.

The bath was wonderful!
The room was right in front of the lakeside, and we could even see fireworks from the window. It was a tatami room, and while it felt old, it was cleaned nicely. However, the age-related stains in the washroom were noticeable. The Onsen had a stunning view that left us mesmerized. With no glass obstructing the view, you could enjoy an unobstructed panorama of the lakeside—it was breathtaking. As for meals, perhaps due to a large number of guests, there were many empty plates on display and even the rice cooker was empty. The buffet area where food is taken was extremely messy with spills everywhere—possibly caused by children—which made us lose our appetite. It would make a big difference if staff could wipe down these areas occasionally with just one quick swipe. In conclusion, while the atmosphere at reception and Onsen (including its post-bath terrace) were excellent, both meals and the room fell short of expectations. Since they seem to offer day-use options as well, I plan to visit next time for just a day trip to enjoy their Onsen again!

There were no bags provided to carry towels to the large public bath, which made it inconvenient to bring back wet towels after bathing. Additionally, there was a message card warning of fines for taking towels, which felt unpleasant as a well-meaning guest.

Large Hotel
The bath was spacious and very lovely. The dining hall was large, resembling a gymnasium, as there were many groups. The fireworks right in front of us were stunning.

The service provided by the foreign staff was extremely poor.
I visit every early summer, so I came again. This time, I requested a quiet floor without inbound guests and was assigned Room 1660, which seemed quiet. However, the room appeared to be rarely used as the drainage pipe in the sink area was exposed and dirty, with small flies hovering around the bathroom cup. Additionally, outdated interior decorations and peeling wallpaper made the room feel eerie. When I requested a room change, a foreign staff member answered my call and came with a towel to deal with the flies? Seriously? Their solution was to kill the insects and expect me to continue using that room? I left temporarily and asked for this issue to be escalated to someone in charge from the beginning. Despite this request being ignored initially, after waiting another 20 minutes for follow-up and prompting them again, they finally brought me keys for another room but left immediately without assisting further or apologizing properly. The attitude of this Chinese staff member was appalling. At dinner buffet service that evening, staff cleared plates while walking around but collected leftover food right in front of us as we were eating—extremely unpleasant! Previously they would clear dishes discreetly at designated areas; please stop doing it directly in front of diners. Regarding meal coupons: reservations are divided into two slots—5 PM until closing or 7:30 PM until closing—but it’s obvious there’s confusion here. Guests with 5 PM reservations can come anytime during their slot; however when we arrived at 7:30 PM as scheduled there was already a long line causing us about 20 minutes wait time! If you limit earlier guests strictly within their timeframe (e.g., by ending their slot at exactly 7:30), such chaos could easily be avoided. Service quality has noticeably declined over recent years due largely perhaps because more than half your clientele now consists of inbound tourists? Upon checkout when raising these concerns once more no record seemed kept nor apologies offered either regarding prior complaints raised earlier during stay itself! While fireworks displays & hot springs remain reasons why returning annually remains appealing overall experience increasingly disappointing unless serious reconsideration given toward improving both dining-room arrangements alongside better-trained empathetic professional staffing solutions addressing guest grievances effectively moving forward urgently needed indeed!

It was my first time using it, but
It was my first time staying, but I was a bit disappointed. I arrived at the Hotel about an hour before the 2:00 PM check-in time, but there was only an announcement that check-in starts at 2:00 PM, so I had to wait in the lobby. When check-in began, it was on a first-come-first-served basis, but there was no announcement about this. It would have been better if early-arriving guests were given numbered tickets to organize the process. Dinner was buffet-style and seemed focused on cost performance. While food is one of the highlights of visiting Hokkaido, it felt somewhat lacking. As for fireworks, stepping out into the garden allowed me to see them in the far left corner as they were not visible from my Room. During the last five minutes of the 20-minute show, however, the fireworks launch boat moved in front of the Hotel for a close-up view right before us.

Everything was great except for the Room, which was disappointing.
Room 2007 on the 10th floor may not be suitable for guests. While the view is great, there are numerous stains resembling blood on the tatami, carpet, and walls. The stains are so severe that replacing the tatami might be necessary. Whether it's blood, coffee, or wine is unclear, but walking barefoot feels unpleasant. Sitting on the tatami or sleeping with a futon in that room was very uncomfortable. (The photos make it look faint, but the stains are actually dark reddish-brown and quite noticeable.) Additionally, despite a high of 21°C outside during our stay, the room was excessively humid and stuffy to the point where it was impossible to sleep comfortably. While other areas of the facility were at a pleasant temperature, this room felt like being trapped in a windowless container with four adults. There’s no air conditioning in this room; although windows can open slightly even on the 10th floor, they don’t allow airflow and lack screens to keep insects out at night. The ventilation system seemed broken as pressing its switch had no effect whatsoever—there was no airflow at all. A fan was provided upon request but didn’t help much; it still felt like being confined in an extremely small space with four adults sweating even though it was only 13°C outside at night. That said, other aspects of our stay were enjoyable: beautiful views from elsewhere in the property; thoughtful amenities like carts for seniors during meals; and excellent baths made for an otherwise pleasant experience if staying in rooms other than Room 2007 on Floor 10. One more note: The toilet inside Room 2007 is significantly elevated compared to its flooring level—posing challenges for seniors due to steep steps making independent use difficult without assistance.

There are both good and bad aspects of the Facility.
The bath is excellent, but the Room's bathtub is disappointing. Considering it's a cheap Plan, it's understandable, but the peeling paint was surprising. The meals offer variety and are enjoyable, but the excessive batter was also surprising. Overall, it's reasonable for the price and quite decent.

Disappointment outweighed satisfaction.
The building is very old, and the room's bathroom and toilet have a strong unpleasant smell. The tatami mats are outdated, the wallpaper is torn, and the curtains are dirty to the point where I didn’t want to touch them. I tried blocking the bathroom drain with a trash can and ran plenty of water down the sink drain to reduce the smell slightly, but it was still unpleasant. A foreign staff member who came to set up our futon moved items with their feet. While I appreciated how quickly they set up the futon, I think they should avoid moving things with their feet in front of guests. The outdoor bath with a depth of 120 cm offered a stunning view of Lake Toya, which was relaxing. However, returning to that smelly room after enjoying such a nice bath was disappointing. The meals were decent overall. However, some guests from China displayed poor manners by cutting in line for elevators or spilling food onto others' clothes at the buffet without apologizing—when confronted about it, they glared instead of showing remorse. The free Shuttle Service from Sapporo and evening fireworks were enjoyable highlights of my stay since fireworks were my main reason for visiting; in that regard, I was satisfied. However, I would never want to stay at this Hotel again—it’s something I deeply regret not choosing another Hotel this time around as well!

Amazing bath! The view was stunning.
This was my first time staying at Sun Palace. The view from the lobby was stunning, and it smelled wonderful—just like my favorite diffuser. The best part was the bath. The sense of openness was incredible! I also appreciated the drinks available near the sauna entrance and in other small areas. For meals, I would love to see more seafood options added. As for the steak, the charcoal flavor was too strong and not enjoyable—I’d prefer it cooked on a regular iron plate since some people may dislike charcoal flavors. Other than that, I was very satisfied and will definitely visit again!

The view is amazing!
The views from the lobby, the bath, and the guest rooms were absolutely stunning! Despite that, I found the price to be very reasonable. It would be even better if there were course meal options available for an additional fee besides the buffet.

To celebrate my mother's birthday and my daughter's graduation
After 15 years, I visited Sun Palace again and was amazed by the stunning view from the terrace near the front desk. The drink service was excellent! The room was as usual, but I noticed that the bathtub in the room's bathroom looked old. Additionally, the washing area in the large public bath felt cold, and it took a while for the shower water to warm up. As for the buffet meals, there were long lines making it difficult to reach certain dishes. Waiting in line took longer than eating, and breakfast left us rushing to check out on time. The smoking room was very crowded with international guests using it as well. Some lacked manners as ashes were scattered under ashtrays; perhaps providing towels or mops could allow for quick self-cleaning by users. The Onsen was fantastic, and despite some areas needing improvement, both food and service were excellent! I would love to visit again!

Toyako Onsen Trip
A sudden decision for an onsen trip! I searched online and made a reservation the day before. I was excited about the bath, and being able to stand and enjoy the onsen while admiring the island in front of me from the open-air bath instantly relieved my daily fatigue and stress.

A bit disappointing
The onsen was very nice, but I made the reservation looking forward to the pool. However, it was closed due to renovations. It was a bit disappointing that it wasn't mentioned on the homepage at the time of reservation that the pool would be unavailable due to renovations.

Family Onsen Trip
The price was reasonable, so I decided on a Multiple Night Stay. However, I noticed that there were certain time periods when the Onsen was not available. According to the Hotel's explanation, they had announced this on their website and other platforms, but I felt that there was a lack of consideration for guests staying for Multiple Night Stays. At an Onsen Property, while the purpose of the stay may vary from person to person, it is natural to assume that one of the main purposes is to enjoy the Onsen. From this perspective, I believe there was insufficient consideration for guests on a Multiple Night Stay. I would like to request that special attention be given to this matter for future stays.

It can't be helped, but...
Both adults and children from China displayed poor manners, making dining and bathing experiences unpleasant. We were with an elderly person with mobility issues, and when we requested a nearby parking spot, we were told it was impossible unless the driver had mobility issues. However, upon checking out the next day, we saw several cars parked in a row in front of the Hotel. Moreover, they all had "wa" license plates. It was hard to believe that all the drivers had mobility issues. It felt somewhat unfair.
