    A historic Hotel with a delicious buffet

    Although the annex corridors feel a bit dated, this historic Onsen Accommodation is right in front of Yubatake, making it very convenient, and I was satisfied at around 20,000 yen per person. The dinner buffet was especially high quality—Joshu beef sukiyaki was excellent. The freshly made omelet at breakfast was also great!

    Great value for money and excellent.

    Beautiful and clean with a charming retro vibe. The location was perfect, dinner and the breakfast buffet were delicious, and the service was excellent—making it an amazing trip!!

    We had a comfortable stay.

    Mr. Ichii, Thank you very much. We had a very pleasant stay from arrival to departure. The location was excellent! We could look down on the Yubatake the whole time, and everything—meals, baths, and the Shuttle Service—ran smoothly, leaving us with wonderful memories. Just one thing: even on the lowest air-conditioning setting it felt too warm, so we turned it off. If the temperature could be set a bit lower so that “low” feels slightly cool, we wouldn’t need to turn it off at night. Thank you again. From Sunami in Aichi

    The location is fantastic.

    For first-time visitors, a Room with a view of the Yubatake is highly recommended. The Onsen is excellent.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The service was attentive without being overbearing. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes in abundance, including items prepared right in front of you, and everything was delicious. The baths were separated for men and women and rotated by time slot, but there was little difference between them, which was slightly disappointing. The Hotel’s location was also ideal for fully enjoying Kusatsu. Overall, it was excellent in every way. Thank you very much.

    Exceeded expectations

    We stayed here for our first family trip in a while. The location is excellent, right in front of Yubatake. It was convenient for visiting the public baths and exploring the Onsen town. However, since the entrance is in the main building, getting there from the annex was a bit inconvenient. The large public bath and the buffet dining venue are both in the same annex, which was convenient. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner, with a wide variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. Both adults and children were very satisfied.

    The Onsen and buffet were excellent.

    This was my first trip to Kusatsu, and I stayed at Hotel Ichii. The dinner buffet had a great variety, and the food was served at the right temperature—hot dishes hot and cold dishes cold—so everything was delicious. The Joshu beef sukiyaki, roast beef, and steak were all excellent. For sushi, you could order your favorite toppings and have it made fresh on the spot; it was very fresh and tasty. Each piece was small enough that even five pieces felt light. My husband especially enjoyed the apple tempura, and he said all of the dessert cakes were delicious. There was also a wide selection of small side dishes, all gently seasoned—not too strong or too bland—so even after trying many items, none of the flavors overwhelmed the others. The vegetables were very fresh as well (perhaps locally grown in Gunma), and the salad was delicious—especially the broccoli. During our meal we didn’t need to call for assistance; staff lit the flame for our sukiyaki pot and quickly cleared empty plates, so even after eating a lot our table stayed spacious and clean, making dining very comfortable. Many of the staff appeared to be from overseas, but everyone worked efficiently and professionally. At Hotel Ichii’s souvenir shop, we received a complimentary box of cookies for spending over a certain amount. They were lightly sweet and tasty cookies stamped with “Ichii” or “Kusatsu.” The Onsen was wonderful as expected, leaving my body warm long afterward. They also stored our luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which let us enjoy sightseeing around Yubatake comfortably without carrying bags. Thank you very much to everyone at Hotel Ichii.

    I felt truly rejuvenated.

    The hotel is located right in front of the Yubatake, making it very convenient for sightseeing, and the view of the Yubatake from our room was amazing. The next day, it snowed and was cold outside, but the snowy Yubatake had a charming atmosphere and was beautiful. The meals offered a wide variety, were cleanly presented, and delicious. I never expected to enjoy nodoguro or crab in Kusatsu! The staff seemed well-trained and provided helpful sightseeing information; they were kind and made us feel welcome. Although there was a bit of distance from our room to the large public bath, it was clean with an open-air bath as well. The Onsen warmed us up to the core. This time we visited as a couple, but next time we would like to come with our family. Thank you very much!

    The room with a view...

    The room with a view of Yubatake was fantastic! The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were incredibly delicious, and the bath was amazing! Overall, the service was good; however, one disappointing aspect was that when we left our luggage to go out and returned later, it wasn't brought out promptly. There were no staff at the luggage area as they prioritized check-ins, which was unfortunate. It would have been nice if they had at least said "Thank you for waiting."

    I visited for my mot...

    I visited for my mother's birthday. Thank you for the small gift. We had requested a room without a view, but you provided us with a Room overlooking the Yubatake, which made my mother very happy. The bath was newly renovated and very clean, with excellent water quality—completely satisfying. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    The view of the Yubatake right in front of the room was amazing. The Onsen experience was also delightful, with two different types of hot spring sources to enjoy. Since it was a birthday trip for my mother, we requested a message on the dessert during dinner, and they prepared an adorable plate along with a small gift, which made for a wonderful memory that my mother truly appreciated. Their thoughtfulness was heartwarming. Overall, the serene atmosphere allowed us to relax and unwind completely. Thank you very much!

    Excellent!!

    For our first trip to Kusatsu, we stayed at Ichii. The guest rooms, baths, and meals were even better than the reviews described. It's hard to decide where to start talking about how great it was. We highly recommend staying here to experience it for yourself!

    Very satisfied.

    The buffet for both breakfast and dinner was delicious with a wide variety of options, making the meals very enjoyable. The bath was excellent Onsen, leaving the skin smooth and refreshed. However, perhaps due to the building being old, there were loud noises from upstairs that echoed until late at night, which made it difficult to sleep well. That said, the location in front of Yubatake is great, and overall I am satisfied.

    Breakfast is served at a fixed time, and the time until check-out is too short.

    The strict time management made it difficult to relax. The Hotel's detailed time specifications created situations where there was either too much free time or a need to rush, leaving the impression that guests had to adjust entirely to the Hotel's schedule. For example, with breakfast at 8:45 and check-out at 10:00, there wasn’t enough time in between. While earlier breakfast times were available, they were only offered in one-hour intervals, which felt inconvenient. Additionally, being required to choose a breakfast time during check-in made it hard to decide based on the actual stay experience. Offering options every 30 or 45 minutes might be more flexible for guests. Since check-out is set at 10:00 (not extended like many Hotels offering an 11:00 standard), I had no choice but to visit the Onsen before breakfast as there wouldn’t be enough time afterward. However, after finishing my bath and waiting for my designated breakfast slot of 8:45, I found myself with nearly an hour of idle waiting. After heading for breakfast at 8:45 and finishing around past 9:30, I barely managed to brush my teeth and pack up before rushing out by the strict check-out deadline of 10:00. Although extending checkout until noon is possible for an additional fee of ¥3,300? The noise from cleaning staff in hallways near elevators was quite noticeable even inside rooms due to the older building structure—making this option less appealing. Ultimately, having no real chance to relax before checking out left me wishing for improvements such as allowing earlier breakfasts (e.g., starting from around 8:30) or extending standard checkout times slightly later (e.g., until around 10:30 or even better—11). This would allow those with an assigned late morning meal slot like mine more flexibility post-breakfast—for instance enjoying another Onsen session without feeling rushed. If promoting Onsen experiences is key here—it would make sense if checkout policies allowed guests ample opportunity post-meal enjoyment too!

    Check-in is at 3:00 PM, and dinner is served at 7:30 PM.

    Arrived early at Kusatsu Onsen and wandered around the neighborhood. Lined up for check-in before 3 PM, but the only available dinner buffet time was 7:30 PM. Since I usually eat at 5 PM, waiting until this time was difficult. Check-in reception starts at 12 PM, but room access is from 3 PM. When I checked in at the same time during my stay a month ago, dinner was at 5:30 PM. Ended up buying beer and snacks at the shop to pass the time, and by dinner, I was already tipsy. If the dinner time is 7:30 PM, I wouldn’t make a reservation. I hope meal times can be reserved as part of the plan. This time, I stayed in a room in the annex, so it was convenient to access the dining area and the large onsen bath with just one elevator ride. In September, I stayed in the main building, and moving around was more challenging. The broken coffee machine in the lobby was a downside. However, the restaurant and valet staff were excellent. I visit Kusatsu Onsen 5–6 times a year. I love the large onsen bath at Ichii, so please create a plan that guarantees dinner times!

    I was satisfied with the Hotel next to Yubatake.

    I have visited Kusatsu many times, but this time I decided on Ichii due to its location near Yubatake. As expected, the hot springs of Kusatsu deeply soothed my sore neck and shoulders, and the water was incredibly gentle on my skin, leaving it smooth and moisturized. The meals were perfect in both quality and quantity, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Kusatsu is a wonderful place—be sure to stay at Ichii at least once!

    Below expectations

    The temperature on the day was 17°C and it was raining upon arrival, yet the air conditioning in the room was set to cold. When I contacted the front desk, they simply said to turn it off if it felt cold. Considering this temperature, both I and the hotel should have been aware of how inappropriate this setting was. After filing a complaint, they brought a heater to my room. They mentioned that their system does not allow switching to heating mode, but at least they could have turned off the cold air beforehand. Was I the only one who felt cold that day? Additionally, despite checking dinner availability at 3:45 PM, only 7:30 PM slots were open. However, all breakfast times were available—this seemed illogical and frustrating. On a positive note, I was satisfied with the meals provided. The staff appeared to include many foreign workers but their dedication and effort were commendable. The previous night I stayed at another hotel in Niigata where service was excellent; having previously visited here with high expectations based on past experiences with this accommodation left me disappointed this time around. Kusatsu remains bustling as a tourist destination; however, has its popularity led to more indifferent service?

    Highly rated!

    From September 9th to 10th, Kusatsu was cool. The room had a Showa-style design with a stunning view of Yubatake. The price included shabu-shabu, steak, sashimi, and other delicious dishes. The finishing touch was kamameshi, which was tasty but I couldn't finish it. The Onsen featured an outdoor bath and three indoor baths with varying temperatures, all very clean.

    The buffet offers high quality.

    We stayed here during Obon last year and again this year. The room on the Yubatake side was excellent as always. Last time, we had a kaiseki meal, but this time it was a buffet, which we were looking forward to. The sukiyaki with Joshu beef, crab, sushi, and tempura—beautifully plated and crispy thanks to the skilled chefs—were all amazing. There were so many dishes to choose from, and the quality truly surprised us. Ichii is worth choosing not only for its fantastic onsen and prime location right in front of Yubatake but also for its outstanding buffet. We look forward to staying here again next summer!

    This was our first time staying in a room with a view of Ichii's Yubatake, and I stayed with my daughter. The meals were delicious, especially the breakfast buffet which was very enjoyable. The service and hospitality provided by the accommodation staff were outstanding, making it a truly pleasant experience. I would love to stay here again. The shuttle service was excellent and greatly appreciated. Thank you for the comfortable shuttle ride to the bus terminal!

    It was an accommodation that made me glad I stayed.

    I stayed in the main building. While it felt slightly old, it was well-maintained with thorough cleaning and renovations keeping it in good condition. The onsen was excellent. The highlight was the amazing dinner. I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner, with a menu offering great variety to cater to different preferences. I believe I got to try all the specialties of Kusatsu Onsen. Delicious food and a wonderful bath made for a very satisfying stay. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    This was the first time I experienced a buffet where every dish was absolutely delicious. The selection, including steak, roast beef, sushi, and crab, was luxurious and perfect. The hot spring bath was also amazing with excellent water quality. Located in front of Yubatake with plenty of souvenir options, I had a fulfilling one-night stay. I would love to visit again.     My first visit to Kusatsu became a wonderful memory.

    The location was excellent, and the buffet was absolutely delicious! The view of the hot spring field from the lounge was especially beautiful at night. You can also enjoy comparing different drinks in the lounge, which adds to the charm of enjoying a stunning view while feeling pleasantly tipsy. Some parts of the Facility show a bit of age, but the food was so amazing that it made up for everything! I would definitely stay here again when visiting Kusatsu.

    This was our second visit to Kusatsu, and this time we stayed at Ichii with our family of four to enjoy the view of Yubatake. We were very satisfied with the view, onsen, and meals. Since one member of our group has a feather allergy, we requested non-feather bedding for one person. On the day of our stay, all four sets of bedding and cushions were prepared without feathers, which we greatly appreciated. We had a relaxing and enjoyable time in the room. Thank you very much!

    The distance to the bath and dining area was a bit far, which was challenging, but the quality of the hot spring water and the meals were excellent. The Yubatake is right in front, so we could enjoy strolling there multiple times. However, we were told that when leaving after handing over our car key, the car would be brought to the front desk. Despite not being in a hurry, we were asked to walk to the parking lot in the rain and climb a steep slope to get to our car. Since I was with my elderly mother, it would have been better if more consideration had been given.

    It was very good, but there were a few disappointments.

    We stayed as a couple and had a wonderful experience. The room offered an amazing view of the Yubatake, which was truly exceptional. The buffet meals were well-balanced with Japanese, Western, and Chinese options, all of which were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the Kusatsu Onsen to our heart's content. While the exterior of the building showed its age, the interior was impeccably clean and well-maintained. One minor disappointment was that the water in the air purifier in our room was empty; I refilled it myself immediately. Additionally, there was no air conditioning in the room. When I asked at reception, they mentioned that we could use ventilation for adjustment instead. However, relying solely on ventilation made it difficult to regulate the temperature properly, and we spent a slightly chilly night. That said, overall it was a great Hotel experience! My wife was very satisfied as well, and we would love to stay here again if we visit Kusatsu in the future!
