Thank you very much to everyone at Ichii.

This was our first stay here on a trip with four friends. The Room, the meals, and above all the service from all staff were outstanding. Every staff member was courteous and kind, and we truly felt first-class hospitality—worthy of a five-star Accommodation. Thanks to you, we were able to relax throughout our stay and enjoy a special time. The clean and comfortable Room, the wide variety of delicious and thoughtfully prepared buffet dishes, and the wonderful Onsen—all exceeded our expectations. Everyone in our group was very satisfied with this trip. When we visit Kusatsu again, we would definitely like to stay at Hotel Ichii again.

The staff are very attentive, and the hot spring water quality is exceptional!

This was my first stay, and the staff’s attentive service and the high-quality Onsen water made it very comfortable. The buffet also offered a wide variety of dishes with excellent ingredients, and it was very satisfying.

Right in front of the Yubatake! Unbeatable location

Thanks to the excellent location right in front of Yubatake, we were able to fully enjoy not only evening strolls but also morning walks. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. The breakfast smoothies and rice balls were especially popular with our family. It was our first trip to Kusatsu and we weren’t sure which Accommodation to choose, but we’re truly glad we chose this one.

    Highly satisfied.

Worried about the typhoon, we decided to go at the last minute and found that there was just one Room available. There was a note saying that you might hear noise from an outdoor unit, but it didn’t bother us at all. The dining area on the top floor and the bath were also in the same annex building, so getting around was very convenient. My husband requested a foot massage from the bodywork therapist and said it felt amazing. I hesitated because the therapist was male, so I asked for an in-Room massage by a female therapist instead, but it wasn’t great. If we stay again, I’d like to book with the bodywork therapist. There was more than enough food and we were generally satisfied. However, some of the tempura batter was slightly undercooked so we removed it before eating, and some desserts ran out later in the evening—so if you want dessert, I recommend securing it early.

    We stayed multiple nights!

Although it had been a while since our last stay, I was impressed that the quality of the meals had improved significantly compared to before. The large public bath was divided into three tubs with different temperatures, so we could choose the one we liked and enjoy the Onsen. My husband prefers very hot water, so he used the hottest tub and seemed very satisfied. Among the Ryokan in Kusatsu, only a few draw from Shirahata Onsen, so I would like to stay again next time. Since we were on a Multiple Night Stay, it was also easy to use Gozanoyu’s day-use Onsen nearby. Yubatake is right in front of you, so we enjoyed looking at it until we never got tired of it.

Delicious cuisine and excellent hot spring water quality.

The full-course meal was very fresh and delicious. The baths were relaxing, with three indoor baths at around 39°C, 42°C, and 44°C, plus an open-air bath. I would have been happy if there had been a sauna. Check-in took some time, possibly due to understaffing and being assisted by a new staff member. Also, there was no explanation about the welcome drink, so I didn’t realize it was available. The Room is quite old; it is clean but not very convenient to use. However, the location is excellent as it is right in front of Yubatake.

Although the Room is old, its location in front of the Yubatake was great.

The buffet is excellent, but we hope you can improve the rice and fish.

    The buffet is decent, but...

The buffet had a decent variety, good quality, and was very enjoyable. The sukiyaki in particular was great because you could adjust the amount of meat. The venue was clean, and although it was somewhat crowded, it wasn’t crowded enough to require lining up, which was also nice. As for what I didn’t like as much: our Room was a standard Japanese-style room in the annex building, but the air conditioning only had Low/Medium/High settings. Even on Low it got too cold, so we kept turning it on and off. I understand the building is old, but being able to adjust the temperature more precisely would have made it more comfortable. The lounge only offered hot drinks even though it was summer, and the lounge itself wasn’t very cool either, so we didn’t go back. Also, when leaving they bring your car from a nearby parking lot, but we had to wait quite a while. If you’re driving, it’s better to allow extra time at checkout. I would stay again if I have the chance, but if I do next time, probably after the Rooms have been renovated. Housekeeping seems thorough, but it felt older than expected—more worn-out in places than “retro.” I hope things improve going forward.

    Excellent location!

The Yubatake was right in front of us, and the view was great. I booked my parents’ Room on the Yubatake side, and I’m glad they were happy with it! The buffet was excellent—the sukiyaki was incredibly delicious, and the sushi made right in front of you was also great. The rice balls at breakfast were tasty. The baths are spacious, so you can relax and soak comfortably. Many of the restaurant staff are from overseas, but their Japanese is very good, and it was impressive to see how hard they work. I’d love to stay again. The only downside was that I wish the towels were a bit fluffier.

    I haven’t been there myself, but…

This time, I booked Ichii as a small gift for my parents. Since both of their birthdays were close, I only noted in the request section at the time of Reservation: “Their birthdays are coming up, so this trip is a present.” On the day, perhaps out of the Hotel’s kindness, they were greeted with congratulations at check-in and even celebrated with a birthday cake. It may seem like a small thing, but we truly appreciate all the thoughtful touches throughout. They were both very satisfied, and I’m really glad I chose this Hotel. When I visit Kusatsu myself, this is a Hotel I would love to stay at. Thank you very much to everyone at the Hotel.

    Pleasant and attentive service

Needless to say, the location is excellent, but what impressed me most about this Hotel was that every single staff member at the front desk and in the dining area was genuinely pleasant. A Hotel with a great balance of Facility, Onsen, and staff makes me want to come back. The Onsen draws water from two different natural sources, so it’s wonderful to be able to enjoy both in one stay.

    We stayed here a few...

We stayed here a few years ago and loved it, so we returned for a group trip to celebrate our 60th birthdays. With a Room overlooking the Yubatake, high-quality Onsen baths, and delicious meals, our friends were very satisfied and it became a wonderful trip. The large public bath was outstanding as expected, but we were also impressed by how well stocked the amenities corner in the changing area was. They even had face sheet masks. We wanted to take our time with dinner this time, so we chose the dining venue “Kimi no Roman.” The food was delicious, and we also enjoyed learning about the ingredients thanks to the staff’s thoughtful explanations. Breakfast was buffet-style. There were many creative dishes featuring local ingredients, and everything was excellent. We felt that even if we had chosen the dinner buffet, we would have been satisfied. Since we needed to go to an annex building for the large public bath and breakfast, we walked back and forth along the connecting corridor. The furnishings and Facilities were polished to a shine, with beautiful ikebana displays throughout. There were also impressive arrangements in the large public bath area itself, giving a sense of refinement that only a long-established Accommodation can offer. All staff members were kind; when we asked for photos, they even took them from atop a step ladder so they could include the Yubatake in the shot. This is an excellent Accommodation with attentive hospitality in every detail—both in its services and its upkeep. The souvenir shop on the first floor is large with an extensive selection, so you can find everything there. They also have a corner featuring Asama Shuzo (my favorite), where I was able to buy various items. Guests who spend 2,500 yen or more receive delicious cookies.

    Wonderful

This was my second stay after visiting for the first time last time. This time I stayed in the annex; while some parts of the Accommodation show their age, - Location - Onsen facilities - Meals - Staff everything was extremely satisfying. Thank you for a wonderful trip. I will stay again.

The Japanese course meal is outstanding.

We chose the Japanese course dinner. The quality made it clear why it is so popular and hard to secure a Reservation. The dishes were excellent—carefully prepared seasonal cuisine that we truly enjoyed. You can choose draft beer from premium options and three local craft beers, as well as two types of bottled beer, but we would be happy if a standard draft beer were also available. We look forward to staying with you again. Thank you.

    Excellent!

Living in Hokkaido, I used to think Onsen in Hokkaido were the best, but Ichii’s Onsen was outstanding. I especially loved the lukewarm bath. We splurged on the Executive Room, and it was very clean. The private dinner and the breakfast buffet were both excellent. We also received a birthday plate and a gift of Imabari towels—thank you very much. I would definitely like to visit again.

    Highly satisfied!

I visited on a weekday during the off-season. The meals and the Onsen were excellent—especially the food; I was amazed because it was my first time seeing such a luxurious buffet. Even though the price was so reasonable, the dining felt truly high-end. I would like to stay again. The location was also great, right in front of Yubatake.

    We had a relaxing stay.

Its location near the Yubatake was wonderful, as we could enjoy the atmosphere of the Yubatake both during the day and at night. It is also very convenient for exploring the Onsen town. All of the staff were very kind, and our stay was extremely comfortable. We would definitely like to stay here again.

    The buffet is delicious.

We chose the buffet, and everything was delicious. The building seems old, but it was kept clean. The layout connecting the main building and the annex is complicated, and we got lost many times. The annex is close to the baths and restaurant, but it’s quite a long walk to reach the front desk or go outside. It was tiring, but overall we were satisfied.

We stayed here as a family of five.

This is a Hotel I would definitely like to visit again. With an unbeatable location right in front of Yubatake, it was very convenient to get back after sightseeing. We arrived about an hour and a half before check-in, but they kindly stored our car and luggage, so we could enjoy sightseeing without any hassle. The view of Yubatake from the lounge was also wonderful. All the staff were friendly, and we felt comfortable throughout our stay. Everything at the buffet was delicious—our family especially enjoyed the sukiyaki and sashimi. The Room was a spacious Japanese-style room, well cleaned and very comfortable. Thanks to the multi-outlet extension cord provided, we didn’t have to compete for outlets as a family, and it was great being able to keep our smartphones by our pillows at night.

I had high expectations based on the reviews, but I was disappointed by the lack of consideration in the service.

I have been using IKYU for many years, but this is the first time I am posting a critical review. The Room was wonderful and the location was excellent, but I felt extremely uncomfortable with the service. At breakfast, there was a tray set on the table we were shown to that did not appear to be ours, and it was later removed without any explanation. I was confused, but once my family arrived I tried to focus on enjoying our meal. Then a staff member came over and asked for our room number; when I answered, they simply said “OK” and walked away. There was no explanation of what had happened or what exactly was “OK,” which left me feeling very confused and distrustful. Regarding checkout, I understand that we were at fault with timing. However, the intercom rang exactly at 10:00, and after responding we received an additional phone call as if to press us further. We ended up leaving in a rush with no time to spare. What disappointed me most was when we asked to store our luggage afterward. We were asked whether we had valuables, and in front of many people near the reception area we had to open our suitcase and rearrange its contents. The front desk staff only watched without offering any help, and immediately afterward I saw staff chatting among themselves. The lack of consideration made me feel deeply embarrassed and sad. I visited with high expectations based on its reputation on TV and elsewhere, but there were few moments where I felt genuine hospitality, and it left me in the worst mood at the end of what should have been a wonderful trip to Kusatsu. I hope this helps other guests as a reference.

I have stayed here many times.

I think it was a great success to make the dining area a buffet venue. However, I always miss the high ceiling in the large public bath, and I notice every time that it has become lower. Please keep up the good work as a long-established inn! This time, I stayed in an annex Room for the first time. It was convenient because it was close to both the buffet venue and the large public bath.

Your First Time in Kusatsu Onsen

My first trip to Kusatsu Onsen—it's quite far from Nagoya. We were very satisfied with our Room overlooking Yubatake. Unlike Onsen resorts in the Chubu area, the atmosphere around Yubatake is much more lively and bustling. This Hotel also has an excellent location. For first-time guests, I especially recommend a Room with a Yubatake view. Dinner seems to be popular as a buffet, but for us seniors, the set meal suited us better—and the portions are generous enough even for younger guests. Staying one night with breakfast only and enjoying a good dinner out is also a great option. The quality of the Onsen water was excellent; it truly lived up to its reputation as one of Japan’s three famous hot springs.

We would love to stay here again.

We stayed in a Japanese-style Room on the Yubatake side of the main building. Although there were some signs of age around the plumbing, the Room was very clean, and we could enjoy a beautiful view of the illuminated Yubatake at night. The dinner buffet was especially delicious, and it was one of the most satisfying buffets we’ve had among Hotels we’ve stayed at. Since we knew it was an older Hotel, we didn’t have very high expectations, but it turned out to be a highly satisfying stay. We would love to stay here again when we visit Kusatsu.

    Overall, we were very satisfied.

We stayed as three generations. We chose Ichii because we wanted our child to see the Yubatake, and the location is unbeatable. The Onsen uses free-flowing water from two sources. In particular, the Shirahata source in the indoor bath felt gentle and great for the skin, and with three tubs at different temperatures, we could soak for a long time. We truly enjoyed Kusatsu’s hot springs. Dinner was buffet-style, but there were plenty of live-kitchen options such as sushi, tempura, steak, and roast beef—everything was delicious! There wasn’t an overwhelming number of items, but each dish felt carefully prepared. Overall, this is a Hotel we would love to visit again; however, the only issue was a very strong odor in the Room toilet... It didn’t seem like something that developed overnight or in just a day. It wasn’t dirty overall, so I wondered if there might be spots that don’t get wiped during routine cleaning. That said, it’s definitely a wonderful Hotel, and our whole family was very satisfied!

I was able to fully enjoy Kusatsu for the first time.

Choosing a Room with a view of the Yubatake was the right decision. I spent the whole time just watching the Yubatake without even turning on the TV. The meals offered such a wide variety that I couldn’t finish everything, and everything was delicious. The bath amenities were well stocked, and I was also satisfied with the selection of coffee and tea at the front desk. The staff were courteous and attentive.

    For Kusatsu, choose Ichii!

The location, the Onsen water quality, and the meals were all excellent. I actually stayed here two years ago as well, and despite the reasonable price, I was highly satisfied with everything including the service—so I came back again. This time our Room didn’t have a view of Yubatake, but the lounge newly opened on the second floor is perfectly positioned to overlook Yubatake, so we could relax at ease after bathing and after dinner. The meals were wonderful—not only sukiyaki, steak, and sashimi, but also many carefully prepared dishes that were beautifully presented on distinctive plates and bowls; you could really tell each one was made with care. Of course, everything tasted great too. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide variety of both Japanese and Western options, and we were very satisfied. The take-away apple smoothie was outstanding. Next time, I’d like to visit in a different season.

A historic Hotel with a delicious buffet

Although the annex corridors feel a bit dated, this historic Onsen Accommodation is right in front of Yubatake, making it very convenient, and I was satisfied at around 20,000 yen per person. The dinner buffet was especially high quality—Joshu beef sukiyaki was excellent. The freshly made omelet at breakfast was also great!
