The Facility feels dated.
The Room we stayed in was spacious, and the buffet offered a good variety of dishes, which we enjoyed. However, the Facility feels a bit dated, and there was a slight musty smell in both the Room and the hallways. The illuminated view from the window at night was beautiful.

This was our first stay in a dog-friendly Room, and we were a bit worried because there were a few harsh Reviews, but the Room was spacious, very clean, and had no pet odor at all, so my husband and I were very satisfied. The bath was especially wonderful. As for the meals, we didn’t really feel much of a Shinshu touch, but we were able to enjoy a wide variety of dishes and everything was delicious. Above all, it was pleasantly cool, and in the morning we could take a relaxing walk through a park with beautiful lawns—it really made us appreciate what a great summer retreat this is. We’d like to come back and stay again around the same time next year.

A well-balanced and pleasant Hotel.
The building is old, but the Room is spacious and clean. The bath facilities were great, especially the barrel sauna. There was also a barrel sauna by the pool, so we could enjoy using the pool as a cold plunge. Meals are served buffet-style, and everything was delicious with a wide variety of options. The rates are reasonably affordable, giving the impression of a well-balanced Resort Hotel overall. If possible, I would like the pool hours to be extended a bit longer.

Aged but very satisfying
The last weekend of August. Check-in at the front desk was very smooth. The Room shows some age, but it has been renovated and didn’t feel unpleasant at all. In fact, it was spacious, and our grandchild was thrilled. Unfortunately, it rained, so we couldn’t use the pool our grandchild had been looking forward to. We stayed after grape picking and hadn’t had lunch, so we were excited for the newly renewed dinner buffet that everyone talks about. There was a great variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. The live kitchen served steak, tempura, fried fish, and more—excellent quality. The sashimi was fresh as well. The miso soup was hearty with plenty of ingredients and very tasty. At breakfast, the filling fruit sandwiches were also popular. The baths rotate between men and women depending on the time, so we enjoyed the open-air bath as well as three types of barrel baths (Shine Muscat grape scent, rose scent, etc.). Everyone in our family said, “We like this Hotel. We want to come back.” It was a wonderful way to end the summer. Thank you very much.

Resort Hotel Adjacent to Lake Tateshina
We stayed for two nights as a couple to escape the heat. Pros - Easy access from central Tokyo; it faces a main road and the parking lot is easy to enter. - The spacious grounds include a pool and an outdoor art garden, both well maintained. - Spacious Room; you can see Lake Tateshina from the Room. - The weather was clear at night, and we could see a sky full of stars from the Room. Cons (personal impressions) - The balance between the air conditioning and the bedding didn’t work for us, so it was uncomfortable to sleep. Heating/cooling is centrally controlled. Because this is a cooler area, thick quilts are provided even in summer. Even after lowering the AC setting significantly, the quilt felt too warm. The next night we turned off the AC, removed the quilt, and slept with only a thin sheet-like duvet cover. - While cleaning is done, some Facility items seem due for renovation. It feels like maintenance is being prioritized where needed.

Charging 40,000 yen per night for that is insulting.
1. Front desk service (female): one-sided manner of speaking; it didn’t feel welcoming. JPY 40,000 and only the 3rd floor? 2. The Room felt older than retro—like pre-Showa. The bed springs were worn out. The in-room bath looked clean but somehow felt unpleasant. There were small black fly-like insects in the Room. 3. Meals: they unilaterally decided the dining time (you should allow guests to choose meal times from the start). 4. Meals: the same menu for both dinner and breakfast? I’m surprised everyone stays quiet about it. 5. The Onsen was average. Overall, I won’t be coming back.

We stayed for two nights as a couple with our dog.
My spouse and I stayed for two nights with our dog. Breakfast and dinner were buffet-style, and the selection was plentiful—everything was delicious. Because dining times are set at check-in, we didn’t have to deal with crowds or difficulty getting food. Dishes were replenished frequently, so we were very satisfied with the meals. The large public bath was also great. While the Facilities overall feel a bit dated, there are updated areas such as a sauna and a round single-person bath. Everything was very clean, making it a pleasure to use. Since it was summer, the pool in the garden was open. Families with children were using it; it’s quite large, with a small trampoline nearby and plenty of chairs poolside—both parents and kids should be very happy. The garden is adjacent to a sculpture park, which connects onward to Lake Tateshina. Over three days, we enjoyed walking our dog while viewing sculptures in the park and circling Lake Tateshina—we never ran out of places to stroll. As for the Room in the dog-friendly building: the interior is somewhat plain, but it was well cleaned, had a kitchen, and we stayed comfortably. It would be nice if you could provide towels for dogs. Lastly, everyone—from the front desk staff to the restaurant team—was warm and welcoming. This Hotel has wonderful surroundings (parks and a lake) and feels like one of the highest-potential Hotels in Tateshina. Even so, keeping prices lower than other nearby Hotels while maintaining that level of service and Facilities must take tremendous effort. I hope this historic Hotel continues for many years to come. We will definitely stay again with our dog. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

Construction started suddenly.
During my Multiple Night Stay, I was relaxing in my Room when some kind of construction suddenly started with no warning. The sound of an electric drill echoed very close by, and since there was no notice, I assumed it would be over in a few minutes and tried to endure it. However, although intermittent, it continued for over an hour with no sign of ending. When I contacted the front desk, they said that “air conditioner work suddenly became necessary.” At the very least, they should have informed us in advance about the time frame and how loud it would be. I had planned to spend the day resting in my Room to recover from mental fatigue, but instead it felt like paying a lot of money only to be subjected to severe stress with no idea when it would end. They later moved me to a Room where I couldn’t hear the noise, but overall it left a very unpleasant impression on my trip.

It was a terrible Hotel.
I stayed at Resort Hotel Tateshina on a summer trip; it was my first time staying here. Right after check-in, I was told that dinner would only be available from 7:45 p.m., but as we are elderly and wanted to eat earlier and go to bed sooner, we canceled dinner. Fortunately, it’s only a little over 30 minutes to central Chino City, so we drove there and ate at a soba restaurant without any issues. The Room had been renovated, but the layout was poor: the washbasin was inside a cramped shower booth attached to the toilet, which was an unbelievable design. I later learned that this Hotel is now under different management than when it was an Art Hotel; I understand running things can be difficult, but perhaps you could aim for a more compact operation and focus on becoming a Hotel with higher guest satisfaction.

Golf in a Cool Summer Retreat
Although the building is old, the Room was spacious and nicely renovated, which was great. The breakfast and dinner buffets also offered a wide variety. It would be even more relaxing if there were open-air baths for both men and women, but it was disappointing that there is only one. There was an error in the alcohol charges at the restaurant (more than double), so I think it would be better to list each charge separately on the bill.

I stayed for one night on a weekday. The Room was spacious and clean, and there was an Onsen; the breakfast and dinner buffets were also delicious. There was a wide variety of desserts as well, and I was very satisfied with what was offered at this price.

Could you please improve this?
This was our second stay with our dog. With Lake Tateshina right next door, the location is perfect for guests traveling with dogs. The building is old, but the interior and Rooms are kept very clean. The Onsen and meals are also very good. However, there were a few things we would like to see improved: 1) We first stayed in November last year, and this was our second stay, but the meals were almost the same. We would appreciate some variation in the menu. 2) During our previous stay, one of the two barrel baths in the Onsen was broken. This time, both were broken. It was disappointing—please repair them. 3) This is something we especially want improved: at night, it is completely dark around the pet entrance, which is dangerous. Also, the pet entrance feels too much like a service/back entrance used by vendors. It takes away from the excitement of staying at a Hotel. Please improve this.

The food is absolutely delicious.
Just as the Reviews said, I found the food to be very delicious. The Room was flawless. The lobby was beautiful, and the sculpture park was wonderful. It was disappointing that parts of the bath were under maintenance. The staff service was excellent. Overall, this is a great Hotel with outstanding value for money.

A Night That’s Too Cold
This was our first stay. We made Reservations for two Rooms—one Western-style Room and one Japanese-Western Room (so the baby could crawl)—and they arranged them to be directly across from each other. That day, the forecast was wrong and it unfortunately rained, so we couldn’t do any sightseeing and arrived at the Hotel early. They let us wait in the lobby. As a female staff member at the front desk mentioned, because of the high elevation it gets quite cold here. The lobby had a stove running as well. They allowed us into our Rooms a little early. Perhaps due to its location, the Japanese-Western Room was very cold. When we tried to turn on the air conditioner, it only showed cooling mode. We called the front desk and were told that because of a building-wide seasonal switch-over, only cooling was available and heating could not be used. They said they would bring a heater to the Room, but when a male staff member arrived empty-handed, he instead lit a built-in gas heater under the window. It was unbelievably old, and with a baby there we felt uneasy, but we were told that was all they had, so we asked him to light it. It did turn on, but there was a strong smell and the air quality felt poor—you could even tell dust was being blown up from floor level. Because it seemed so old and also felt unsafe, we turned it off shortly after staff left. That night we managed as best we could while feeling very cold. The unit-bath door in the Western-style Room is also quite high; I think it could be dangerous for elderly guests. The dining venue is not very large. On the positive side, dishes were served continuously without long gaps. Partway through our meal, however, a large Chinese tour group came in and it became very noisy, so we finished quickly. The Onsen was good. Overall, parts of what looked like closed-off areas of the Facility were left untouched and visible in places, which felt disappointing. Because I trusted IKYU’s site information/Reviews more than usual when choosing this Accommodation/Hotel (?), my disappointment was greater. I don’t usually write Reviews like this, but since I place importance on Reviews when selecting an Accommodation/Hotel (?), I wanted to share my honest feedback.

Spring Resort
This was my first time staying at this Accommodation on a trip to Tateshina after six months. Some Reviews mentioned aging Facilities, and while there were a few signs in areas not visible from the outside, overall—including the interior—it didn’t bother me. Everything was well cleaned, so I could relax with peace of mind. The Onsen temperature was just right, allowing for a long soak that relieved my fatigue. The highly rated meals didn’t have a large number of dishes, but the lightly seasoned menu suited my taste and left me satisfied. It’s an Accommodation I’d like to visit again to see the autumn colors in the mountains.

I have just one complaint.
We stayed in a twin Room, and it was clean. Some Facilities are an older type, but we didn’t find them inconvenient. The Room is spacious and comfortable. The only problem is the men’s large public bath at night: a strong cold draft comes in through the ventilation window, so you have to keep washing time to a minimum. In winter, you can catch a cold. The men’s bath in the morning has no issues. Meals are buffet-style—perfect for older guests and delicious. We would like to visit again.

With your dog
We searched for a dog-friendly Hotel near the ski resort and stayed here. The price was lower than nearby ski lodges (pensions), so we were a bit worried, and it is indeed old. However, the Room was clean, the Onsen water quality was excellent, and we really enjoyed the meals. The foreign staff were very courteous, which impressed us. In the game corner, you can play nostalgic arcade machines for FREE, and our daughter was happy too. As a ski lodge, we were more than satisfied. We will visit again.

Satisfaction
We stayed for one night and two days during our ski trip. There is a ski rack at the entrance, which was very convenient. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the kids especially enjoyed the chocolate fondue dessert, saying they would love to come back. The building feels a bit old, but considering the price, it was excellent value. We would definitely like to stay here again.

Satisfied
Good value for the price. High cost-performance. The building is generally old, with some unused areas and spaces here and there. Depending on the guest room, the large communal bath is located in a separate building, requiring two elevator rides to access. I stayed in January, but the indoor heating was effective (unlike a famous traditional Ryokan in Gora that was cold). Dinner featured dishes made with carefully selected domestic ingredients, showcasing great hospitality. My personal favorite was the wagyu curry with generous chunks of meat. The baths operate on a rotation system; one side does not have an open-air bath, and its substitute large barrel bath is currently out of service. The side with an open-air bath was spacious and enjoyable. Both baths use natural hot spring water directly from the source (onsen).

Unfortunately.
Feedback on the Room Stayed with Family and Dog: The exterior and interior show noticeable signs of aging. **Disadvantages:** - The floor is full of scratches, the small balcony is in poor condition with no signs of cleaning. - The refrigerator, slightly dirty dishes, and kettle are available as standard amenities, but there are no complimentary items like water, coffee, or tea. - In a cold area where heating is essential, there was no humidifier provided, leaving my throat dry in the morning. - The hallway on the first floor at night was pitch dark—possibly for energy saving?—creating a haunted house-like atmosphere. - The indoor bath lighting was dim—again possibly for energy saving?—and combined with steam made it hard to see anything; many people almost tripped over. However, the outdoor bath lighting was normal. - Morning bathwater was lukewarm to the point that everyone left saying they might catch a cold! It’s unclear why it wasn’t properly heated in the morning. **Staff Service:** Service quality felt below average; staff seemed unsure about alcohol prices during meals ("around this much?"), and when requesting more fries at the buffet it took 10 minutes before an international staff member came to say "It’ll take another 5 minutes—is that okay?" Cleaning standards were lacking overall and customer service from both Japanese part-timers and international staff could be improved. **Advantages:** The view is great ◯ , there’s a spacious park nearby, and the buffet food tastes good. Overall impression: disappointing and feels like wasted potential.

Just affordable
The renovated room I reserved was clean, but oddly enough, while the unrenovated rooms had touch-style keys, the renovated room still had an old-fashioned door. The service was very pleasant, and although many foreign staff were employed, they all worked hard. However, the Hotel was extremely cold overall. Perhaps due to fewer guests, the hallways and bathrooms were cold—especially the dressing area in the bathhouse where it seemed like the heater was turned off—it was freezing. Additionally, in the outdoor bath (rotenburo), possibly because it’s winter, the water temperature was low. I had to warm up again in an indoor bath to avoid catching a cold. Please adjust the water temperature accordingly. As for meals, while there wasn’t a wide variety of options available, everything tasted delicious. However, during my 2-night stay, both meals were exactly identical each day. Overall though, considering how affordable it was for what you get—I have no complaints except that I really hope something can be done about how cold it is!

Overall, it is a good Hotel.
The facility is old but clean. However, due to window condensation, it might need a bit more cleaning. The meals for both breakfast and dinner are very delicious. The Onsen is lukewarm, so you need to take your time to enjoy it. I would like to stay here again.

Is the cypress barrel-style bath not available for use?
At check-in, the staff was decorating the Christmas tree. The Room was not thoroughly cleaned, with a few strands of hair visible on the chair in the washroom, which was unpleasant. On the first day, the women's bath had an indoor large bath and a cypress barrel-style bath that were supposed to be available but were not in use, making the large bath cold. Dust had accumulated above the mirror with a hairdryer next to the changing room. The outdoor bath in the men's area was very lukewarm. Dinner was delicious, especially the steak, domestic beef curry, and miso soup. The fruit sandwich at breakfast was also tasty. It was great to stay at such a reasonable price through IKYU.com!

Great value for money! Perfect for three families.
The facility felt a bit dated, but the lobby was spacious, and the onsen was comfortable and enjoyable. The room was well-maintained and very comfortable to stay in. The meals were delicious, especially the steak at dinner and the fruit sandwich at breakfast. In this time of rising prices, I truly appreciated the creativity in offering such wonderful options. I have stayed at accommodations across the whole country, but it was my first time having a fruit sandwich for breakfast—it left a lasting impression! Taking an early morning stroll to the sculpture park or Lake Tateshina was also refreshing. Next time, I would love to visit again with my brother's family and mother. Thank you for providing such a pleasant experience!
