I was deeply impressed by your warm hospitality.

After working hard decluttering my home during Golden Week, I decided on a last-minute treat—let’s go to an Onsen! So I made a Reservation the day before and stayed at this Accommodation. I hadn’t planned the trip in advance; I just wanted to relax with delicious food and an Onsen. I happened to find this place through a search, and it turned out to be truly wonderful—an unforgettable reward and a great memory. While chatting with the staff member who welcomed us in the parking lot, we mentioned Sora Terrace. After check-in, the attendant surprised me by bringing over a brochure, saying, “I heard you’re going tomorrow.” I was genuinely touched. Even though it’s a historic Onsen area, the younger staff were working hard, and everyone—from the dining staff to the front desk—was cheerful and friendly throughout our stay. It was an Accommodation filled with heartfelt hospitality that naturally brought smiles. The Room had been renovated in a modern Japanese style. There were plenty of power outlets everywhere (including by the bed), so charging devices was never an issue. I also loved being able to enjoy coffee, tea, and cold tea in the complimentary lounge area. Dinner served in a private room was excellent—not only delicious but also beautifully presented with small touches that made it even more enjoyable. I came hoping to unwind at a Ryokan, but exploring nearby public baths in yukata and sandals was also great fun. Since we went without much prior research, it made the holiday even more memorable.

    The hospitality is outstanding.

Last year, I stayed here with my son and the meals were truly delicious. Since it was my birthday month, they also surprised me with a cake, which really moved me. This year I stayed with my wife, and once again there was a surprise: they gave us a handmade brooch as a gift. My wife was deeply touched. It may seem like a small thing, but you can tell everyone is always thinking about what’s best for their guests. I believe that leads to repeat stays and loyal customers. We will definitely stay again.

    Golden Week Trip

The meals were delicious and beautifully presented, and we were very satisfied. The rice was served as kamameshi, and the portion size was just right. When we parked in the lot first, a staff member came right away and helped carry our luggage. The staff’s service was pleasant and welcoming. It was a bit disappointing that the open-air bath was somewhat small, but the ReFa showerhead felt great, especially the mist setting. The property was clean throughout, felt comfortable, had a nice scent, and was very relaxing.

I’d love to visit again in midwinter.

The gentleman who welcomed us and the staff member who handled check-in were very cheerful and left a great impression. At check-in, we also received helpful sightseeing advice, which we really appreciated. Their smiles were wonderful as well. Just one thing: perhaps due to the age of the Facility, the outdoor air-conditioning unit was noisy.

    Thank you for your support!

The Onsen town had a charming atmosphere, and the trip was very satisfying thanks to the Onsen and delicious meals. The female staff provided exceptionally cheerful and pleasant service. The Ryokan’s Onsen felt cleaner than the public Onsen, which left a great impression—especially the carbonated bath. The food was also excellent, and I would like to visit again. However, I would have preferred a Room with beds rather than futons; because of the height of the sunken kotatsu, getting in and out felt a bit inconvenient, which was disappointing.

    Children's Celebration Trip

Stayed with the Pairing Plan to celebrate a special occasion. The staff's service was excellent, and we enjoyed both wine and sake pairings tailored to our preferences, making the drinks and meals delightful. There was even a surprise that made our stay very pleasant. The room had been renovated beautifully, featuring a cozy sunken kotatsu that added warmth and encouraged lively conversations. The natural hot spring bath exceeded expectations with its quality. Since it was New Year's, there were booths for calligraphy and postcard art, allowing us to fully enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Thank you for such an enjoyable time! We look forward to staying again in the future.

    Accommodation Worth Supporting

I stayed during the New Year holidays. The meals and the baths were excellent. From conversations with the staff, I learned that this accommodation hires many new employees instead of relying on short-term workers, and despite these challenging times, they maintain a low turnover rate and are making great efforts. After returning home, I came across a newsletter called "Shunran Tsushin" provided by the accommodation, which made me feel that I must visit again. It included an article about how this Onsen in Shibu is addressing depopulation in rural areas by supporting local high school students' employment through their accommodation. As an adult, while enjoying my leisure time here, I would like to contribute even slightly to supporting young people and return their smiles with heartfelt care. Thank you very much for everything. Please continue your wonderful initiatives moving forward!

    It was truly relaxing!

We visited for a family New Year trip. All the staff were warm and welcoming, which was very comforting. The meals and baths were excellent! The New Year mochi-pounding event was fun and delicious! Now we understand why this accommodation is so popular. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Excellent Accommodation

The staff, including the attendant who assisted us, provided exceptional hospitality, making our stay very pleasant. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, no matter what we had. Regarding meals for our preschool-aged daughter, many accommodations serve kids' meals similar to children's lunch plates; however, here they served dishes similar to those for adults, which we greatly appreciated. When our daughter told the attendant that she couldn't finish her meal, they kindly wrapped it up for her to eat in the room later. Every interaction was thoughtful and considerate. The room was equipped with soft bed linens and thick fluffy towels with plenty of spares provided. Amenities included THANN products and a ReFa hairdryer—showcasing the accommodation's attention to detail. Our room also featured an indoor hot spring bath with water directly sourced from the spring itself. The quality of the water was excellent; opening the window transformed it into a semi-open-air bath where we could relax even in hotter water temperatures. However, there were some points of concern: 1. The shower water pressure was weak. 2. The humidifier was placed at the far end of the living space (opposite side from the bed), causing us to wake up multiple times during the night due to dry throats needing hydration. * My husband caught a sore throat cold by morning; ideally, having a humidifier closer to the bedroom would be better. 3. It seemed like guests in an adjacent room left their TV on continuously as low bass sounds reverberated throughout and made it difficult for us to sleep. * While our room had great audio equipment installed, perhaps its placement near their audio system caused this issue. Overall though, we are truly grateful for such a wonderful experience!

    It was so relaxing!

I had a very relaxing stay at "Shunran no Yado Sakaeya," a place I had wanted to visit for a long time. First, the staff's heartfelt smiles and thoughtful hospitality were impressive. The hallways and lobby were decorated with items made by the staff, creating a lively atmosphere. The meals were delicate and prepared with care, each dish showing creativity and offering delicious enjoyment. I was also delighted by the variety of sake tasting sets available. The onsen was clean, and the open-air bath was very pleasant. We also enjoyed visiting other nearby baths, making good use of our time. It has become an accommodation I want to visit again with my husband. Thank you very much!

Enjoy beer in the alley of Shibu-no-Yu's public bath.

The accommodation is located on an old main street, just wide enough for cars to pass each other. When you park your car in front of the entrance, the staff will promptly unload your luggage and take care of parking through valet service. Since the onsen town is situated on a slope along the river, this accommodation on the mountain side becomes more spacious as you go to higher floors. The room bath is adjusted to your preferred temperature based on your check-in time. Hot water flows continuously at a slightly higher temperature. From the open-air panoramic bath with large windows, you can enjoy views of distant mountain ranges and overlook the onsen town while feeling refreshed by the breeze during your soak. Local craft beer is available for purchase at the shop. Dinner is served in guest rooms overlooking the street; since COVID-19, regular rooms have been repurposed as private dining spaces. All staff members are kind and attentive.

Accommodation with attentive service and cuisine

First of all, Shibu Onsen, the quaint streets, and the public bath tour are quite nice. The accommodation offers spacious and clean rooms. Additionally, the hospitality of the staff is outstanding. Furthermore, I was impressed by the chef's creative menu. This is an accommodation I would love to stay at again.

    Satisfied with the excellent accommodation.

We stayed as a group of 5 and were grateful for the attentive service provided to everyone from start to finish. We were satisfied with the meals, bath, room, and shop, but above all, we appreciated the thoughtful hospitality of the accommodation staff. If I may add a suggestion, it would have been nice to have high-performance hair dryers in the men's bath as well.

I stayed at this accommodation for the first time in early September and loved the delicious food so much that I came back again within a month. My husband also wanted to return as there were still some public baths he hadn't visited yet. I was hoping to have the same meal as my first visit, but it had changed, which was a bit disappointing! The facility was well-maintained and clean, making for a comfortable stay. Additionally, having music playing in the room added to the relaxing atmosphere. Thank you to all the attentive staff who noticed even the smallest details!

The meals were very delicious. The portions were large, so I apologize for not being able to finish everything. The tomato hot pot for dinner, coffee-flavored chestnuts, saury rice, and the miso-grilled pork and mushrooms for breakfast were all incredibly tasty. The Onsen is Shibu Onsen, so I thought the water might be lukewarm? But after putting on my yukata, I started sweating profusely. The standing bath in the large public bath was wonderful.

Private sauna, exquisite cuisine, and nine hot springs to explore.

Booked this time after watching YouTube and discovering a private sauna. 【Oxygen Capsule】 Before the sauna, I experienced my first oxygen capsule for 30 minutes. Since the pressure increases, ear equalization is necessary. You can spend time watching TV or reading magazines. After 30 minutes, I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. 【Sauna】 This time, I booked a plan with a private sauna included. First, you choose herbs for the Löyly session. I selected lemongrass + roasted green tea! Upon entering the sauna, you can hear the sound of water flowing. It feels complete with an onsen, cold bath, even colder bath, and sauna all available. The aroma from the herbal Löyly is delightful—much more enjoyable than just using plain water for Löyly sessions! The hidden cold bath was extremely chilly—I couldn't last more than 10 seconds... During breaks in the sauna session, you can enjoy shaved ice, carbonated drinks, or mini beers. 【Dinner】 If you book with meals included—it's one of the highlights of staying at a ryokan! To summarize: everything was delicious! Thank you for such wonderful food! The menu of today's dishes was lined up impressively from end to end!!! The dry ice presentation added fun to it as well; seasonal touches like matsutake mushrooms paired with salmon were delightful too. I enjoyed grilled Shinshu beef shabu-shabu on hot lava stones and rice cooked with Pacific saury and mukago—it was superb!! Finally came ginger jelly paired perfectly with autumn fruits—a fantastic finish. 【Onsen Hopping】 A master key for onsen hopping is provided in your room (if available another one may be borrowed). A basket set prepared specifically makes it convenient to carry essentials while hopping between baths (you can also exchange yukata if sweaty along your journey). Be cautious—the water temperature is very hot as noted in warnings; if no one else has entered yet diluting it slightly might be necessary before use. Morning bathing starts at 6 AM but note that cleaning may occur after 8 AM... The final No.9 bath features a steam room which is absolutely amazing!!! (Additional Notes) Reservations for private sauna plans must be made separately via the ryokan's official website. The oxygen capsule experience was included as part of this reservation's special perks. Although prices are displayed during booking processes rest assured they won't actually be charged unless specified otherwise clearly stated within details provided beforehand

This was my first stay at the accommodation.

Upon arriving at Sakaeya, it felt like a quaint Onsen accommodation in an old hot spring town. The staff's service and hospitality were excellent. Since the room came with a private Onsen, I was able to enjoy it multiple times, which was very satisfying. The most outstanding part was the food! Each dish showed great attention to detail and was incredibly delicious. It was perfect!

    Hot Spring Hopping

Enjoyed a journey through the hot springs, not just in one day! Even after check-out, we borrowed yukata and geta to complete our adventure. We were also allowed to use the large public bath afterward. Thank you so much! The staff never said "No," which made us feel very welcomed—this must be the kind of accommodation it is. As for the food, while it wasn’t traditional kaiseki cuisine, it was innovative and delicious—truly impressive! Overall, it was a highly satisfying trip with great value for money.

There were a few things I couldn't agree with.

Train 9A "Yukemuri" from Nagano Station departs at 14:27 and arrives at Yudanaka Station at 15:12. However, the free shuttle service departs at 14:50, which seems confusing. There might be a reason for this, but from a guest's perspective, the timing of the free shuttle is unclear. Additionally, if you reserve the shuttle to match your train arrival time, it costs ¥500 per person as a paid service, which can lower excitement right from the reservation stage. We stayed in the "Special Semi-Suite Yu with Private Onsen & View Bath" (Japanese-Western Style Room) for one night. However, private dining for dinner required an additional fee (is this only applicable to reservations made through IKYU.com? Where was non-private dining located?). During dinner, my wife's sashimi platter came with dry ice smoke as part of its presentation when she removed the paper covering her plate. My plate had no such smoke effect. When I asked a young female staff member about it, she explained that during serving, the paper cover on my plate flew off and caused the dry ice smoke to dissipate. Is it acceptable not to redo such presentations? The male staff member who served us during later parts of dinner and breakfast provided excellent hospitality. The temperature setting of our private onsen bath in our room was just right for my preference. Although not related to this accommodation directly, there was another guest smoking in the outdoor bath of the public onsen area—this was disappointing. It would be helpful if stricter explanations were given during check-in regarding smoking rules. Shibu Onsen itself has a retro charm that felt very relaxing and healing overall.

Experience the charm of visiting 9 public hot springs! A cozy and welcoming accommodation, Shunran no Yado Sakaeya.

Exploring the famous public baths of Shibu Onsen was truly enjoyable, and even the extremely hot water became just right after adding some cold water. Chatting with other guests about the heat of the baths added to the unique charm of this onsen town. I was thrilled to complete all the bath visits this time, leaving me fully satisfied! The retro atmosphere of the onsen town is captivating, and walking through it while hearing the clattering sound of geta sandals felt like stepping into another world. Along the way, I stopped by a nostalgic Showa-era shooting gallery, immersing myself in its old-fashioned charm. I absolutely love this ambiance. The meals were hearty and generous, with two additional complimentary dishes included—a delightful surprise! Even snacks like fruits and nuts were provided for late-night cravings, along with rice from dinner service. Pairing wine with dinner further enriched our dining experience. Drinks during meals or in-room were also offered free of charge—such thoughtful services made our stay even more enjoyable. The large communal bath inside and our room's private bath both had excellent quality water that we enjoyed multiple times during our stay. The open-air bath featured an abundance of mineral deposits floating in it; soaking while listening to cicadas chirping or wind chimes ringing created a perfect summer atmosphere. There was also a carbonated spring that was slightly hot but ideal for refreshing relaxation. One minor disappointment was regarding access to the large communal bath: although we were informed it would be unavailable from 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM due to cleaning, when we arrived around 11:30 PM, cleaning had already started earlier than expected. For those planning nighttime use, entering earlier is recommended. While not a luxury ryokan, all staff members provided warm and attentive service that created an invitingly homely atmosphere. Though not spaciously large rooms are clean & comfortable enough ensuring pleasant stays overall. If you're unsure where should book accommodations within Shibu Onsen area,"Sakaeya" comes highly recommended without hesitation!

    Family Trip

The service was excellent, and I had a very comfortable stay. The Onsen seemed to be good for the skin, as my heat rash improved. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, and they were delicious. My mother has a small appetite, but she ate more than usual. If I may suggest, I would prefer slightly simpler Japanese dishes for dinner. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

The hospitality was excellent at this top-notch Ryokan.

The Onsen and meals were excellent, but above all, the staff provided service with warm smiles, making the experience truly pleasant. Despite the current concerns about labor shortages, I was able to enjoy my stay without any inconvenience. I would love to visit again! The tour of the outdoor baths was also very enjoyable!

    We had a wonderful time.

Accommodation for two adults and two elementary school children. We considered staying at an onsen accommodation in areas like Obuse or Yudanaka, and decided to make a reservation at Sakaeya, which had great reviews on every site. When we inquired in advance about meals and shuttle service, the staff responded kindly, making us look forward to our stay. On the day of arrival, we arrived earlier than the check-in time but were provided with keys and towels for onsen hopping. They also prepared an onsen-hopping towel as part of our room amenities, allowing us to enjoy our time before check-in. (Although we could only enter one bath due to the water being too hot, it was still enjoyable as a stamp rally and sightseeing activity!) The large public bath was very comfortable; however, since our room had its own open-air bath attached, we were able to enjoy it throughout the night! The room was spacious with beautiful interior details that added charm. Having meals in a private dining space allowed us not to worry about others around us—this was delightful—and each dish served was truly delicious! The attentive service during meal times made us feel so grateful that we thought we'd love to visit again someday. The next day, we used the paid shuttle service to visit Jigokudani Monkey Park. Leaving our large luggage at the accommodation made sightseeing much easier; they even brought our luggage when picking us up from Jigokudani Monkey Park and dropped it off with us at Yudanaka Station—this convenience was greatly appreciated! Considering how muddy and steep some parts of Jigokudani Monkey Park are near cliffsides, carrying luggage would have been impossible... At checkout time, a male staff member showed us real-time footage from Jigokudani Monkey Park saying: "There are monkeys already today; if it's windy later today you might see them soaking in hot springs!" We managed to see one monkey enjoying an onsen—it became such a wonderful memory for both kids who were thrilled by this experience! Please convey my gratitude for this thoughtful gesture. Everything—from rooms & cuisine down through every staff member's considerate care—was incredibly pleasant throughout our stay here! Even though I made some last-minute requests regarding transportation arrangements during shuttles back-and-forth between destinations (like asking drivers how monkeys fared), everyone remained kind-hearted towards children too while engaging warmly overall… Thank You So Much!!

    Generally as expected.

This was an Onsen accommodation I had been curious about for a while. The hospitality, atmosphere of the facility and room, as well as the bath, were almost as good as the reviews suggested. However, the only disappointment was that the dinner portions felt slightly insufficient and the timing of serving dishes was unusually slow, which caused some frustration. Regarding portion size, it might be sufficient for women but could feel a bit lacking for men. Around the Ryokan at night, there were no convenience stores or places to grab a light meal (perhaps it was just that particular day), so please keep this in mind.

I stayed here 2 years ago and had a great experience, so I decided to come back. I was happy to be assisted by the same staff member as last time; their smile is wonderful! The room had a bath, and I was informed it was a natural hot spring, which I thoroughly enjoyed! This time, I also used the sauna water relaxation, and it was amazing. There were two types of cold baths, and it was fun to choose which one to use based on my condition. The meals were delicious, and I was really grateful for the surprise. I forgot something on my way out, but they kindly helped me with it. Thank you very much.
