Overall, it was good.
Stayed at Zarak this time. Good Points: - The room is very spacious. - The room comes with an Onsen. - Dinner was delicious and plentiful; in autumn, the matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi was a delightful touch. - Cars are valet parked, so you won't get wet even in the rain. - Free Fujiiryoki massage chairs available. - The large public bath is spacious. - Buffet quality and variety were satisfying, especially with local dishes included. - Staff service was excellent. - Renovations have been made here and there, keeping the overall facility clean while retaining a nostalgic Showa-era Onsen Hotel vibe without feeling old or worn out. - Conveniently located near Minakami IC. Disappointing Points: - It would be nice if breakfast could also include an option for a private Japanese set meal room setting. - Only two sticks of "Oi Ocha" tea were provided in the room; it would be better to have tea bags instead. - Although the Plan mentioned a semi-open-air bath attached to the room, it felt more like an indoor bath with just a window. - The Onsen water in the private bath had a slight chlorine smell; while understandable for safety reasons, it lacked that authentic Onsen feel. - Shower pressure was not great. As this Hotel is built along a valley and horizontally long with some stairs here and there, those who have difficulty walking should take note. Zarak offers luxurious rooms with attached Onsens but falls slightly short compared to high-end Ryokan rooms featuring open-air baths. However, considering its price point overall—balancing food quality, Onsen experience, and room standards—it provides good satisfaction levels. It's an excellent choice for those prioritizing meal quality and spaciousness/cleanliness of rooms!

Tanigawa-dake was am...
Tanigawa-dake was amazing. The dinner was delicious and plentiful, making for lively conversations. Although the numerous baths were a bit tiring, they left my skin feeling smooth. I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

Breakfast Hours
At check-in, I was informed that breakfast starts at 8:00 AM, but many people were already eating before 8:00 AM. I wanted to have an early breakfast as I planned to visit Tanigawadake. The Onsen was spacious and very relaxing.

A bit dissatisfied.
We stayed here as a couple on our way back from Oze. Initially, we considered a Business Hotel, but since Minakami Onsen was nearby, we chose this Hotel. The photos on IKYU.com gave an impression of cleanliness, but it seems to be a renovated large-scale Showa-era Hotel now operated by new management. The shared areas (including the bath) did not appear to be well-cleaned and lacked a sense of cleanliness. The Room's bed seemed new and was very comfortable for sleeping—very satisfying. The meals were standard in style but satisfying in both content and quantity. The serving staff appeared to be mostly from the Middle East (?) or other foreign countries, but their service was smooth and professional overall. However, two additional bowls were served after the meal had already ended—a common occurrence in such settings though still worth noting. Moving forward, I plan to carefully review photos and Facilities on IKYU.com before making reservations again.

Scattered throughout
I visited after a long time. The name of the accommodation changed after the renovation, and I was excited to see how much it had transformed. The room I stayed in had not been renovated. While the age is understandable, there were several holes in the shoji screens, and one side of the closet door handle was missing. The room was spacious and allowed for a relaxing stay. The bathroom hadn't changed much either, with multiple broken shower holders. It was nice that they accommodated my late-night arrival and early morning departure. I would visit again if given another opportunity.

I had a relaxing time enjoying the Onsen to the fullest.
Onsen accommodations for guests with dogs are increasing, but many still place such rooms in older buildings at the back of the Facility. Here, you can enter a building with dog-friendly rooms right from the entrance, and check-in and check-out can be done in your Room, which was very convenient for traveling with a dog. The Room was clean, and our beloved dog felt relaxed from the start without sniffing around nervously. The in-room dining was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The Onsen had a wonderful atmosphere; although it rained during our trip, we enjoyed a relaxing weekend soaking in the Onsen to our heart's content. I had only visited Minakami for skiing before this trip, but I found it to be an ideal destination for a weekend getaway with its charming Onsen experience. I would love to visit again!

The open-air bath is not clean, the floor feels soft and unstable, the shower room tiles are dirty, and the drainage is poor, making it unusable.

Enjoyable Bath Time
We stayed as a group of four, including two grandchildren and grandparents. ○ The onsen operates on a time-based schedule with gender alternation, so we planned ahead to enjoy all three onsens. The crystal bath and the onsen with eight types of baths were particularly delightful. ○ For meals, we chose the small portion mini kaiseki course with an all-you-can-drink option. The food portions were sufficient, visually appealing, and the mushroom kamameshi was delicious. My husband was very satisfied with the all-you-can-drink option. ○ The room was spacious, and from the hallway, we could watch trains passing by, which made our grandchildren very happy. ○ With great food and wonderful onsens, this is one of the accommodations we'd love to visit again. Thank you to everyone at the ryokan for your hospitality!

A trip for two with a female friend.
I had a wonderful and enjoyable time. The facility was quiet, allowing me to relax peacefully, and the meals were very generous in portion. The Onsen, which alternated by time, was delightful in every way. I look forward to visiting again.

I had a relaxing time!
The room where you can stay with your dog is spacious, clean, and comfortable. There are many Onsen to enjoy. Bathing while gazing at the mountains and clear streams is amazing. Although the building is old and the baths are located separately, the rooms have been renovated beautifully. The meals were also delicious. I would love to stay here again!

It felt like being misled by the hotel's PR. A somewhat mediocre Onsen accommodation. Wi-Fi is only available on the front desk floor.

The bathroom in the flora Kiri Room is not overflowing.
I was drawn to the image of the semi-open-air bath in the Flora room and made a reservation, but the bathtub did not overflow with water, nor was it a natural hot spring flow. According to the front desk staff, they use a "circulation filtration system combined with natural flow" for temperature adjustment and hygiene management. When using the private bath in the room, some dirt (from previous guests) appeared in the water. The "Kiri" room we stayed in was very lovely, but due to these reasons and disappointing meals... it left us feeling sad.

I had a relaxing time!
During Golden Week, just a few minutes' drive along the riverside where cherry blossoms still linger, we found a wonderful accommodation. It offered clear views of the serene Tone River and the majestic Mount Tanigawa up close. While the accommodation itself is not new, it features a variety of baths and thoughtful service that left us very satisfied. We were especially delighted to find alcoholic beverages included in the free drink selection at dinner—a pleasant surprise! The friendly staff with their warm smiles were kind and made it a refreshing stay for our family.

Renovated Room and Bokusui Hot Spring are excellent.
I stayed in the Kiri Room and absolutely loved it—it’s one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in. The room had a private onsen with plenty of space, and the temperature was always perfectly maintained. From the window, I could see snow-covered Hotaka (not directly in front), and the sound of the rushing river was so relaxing that it reached deep into my core. It was a wonderful experience. However, unfortunately, I don’t think I would revisit despite not finding it overly expensive. The meal times were disappointing... The quality reminded me of older accommodations from years ago. Breakfast especially felt lacking. There’s also a stark contrast between the beautifully renovated rooms and the outdated banquet hall, which left me feeling sad instead of impressed. Perhaps offering meals served directly to guest rooms would be better? Even without free alcohol, having a few complimentary drinks stocked in-room refrigerators might be appreciated by guests staying in these upgraded rooms—they likely wouldn’t enjoy dining in banquet halls. That said, creating pet-friendly rooms and facilities is an excellent idea! Bokusui no Yu is undoubtedly one of Minakami's best onsens—truly outstanding! In many ways, this accommodation surpasses Juraku Inn. The selection of books available is also fantastic. Areas for improvement include cleanliness: there were stains on our room table and dust on some dishes; additionally, windows throughout the facility appeared dirty. Considering that renovations are likely attracting younger guests with higher expectations, ensuring spotless windows would make a significant difference as this demographic tends to notice such details. I envy literary figures who could write here—it’s such an inspiring place! This would be perfect for workations if only meals were improved further… Overall though—it was still an incredibly pleasant stay!

Accommodation with Elderly Parents
I stayed with my husband and elderly parents. The room felt a bit old but was spacious and comfortable, which we were satisfied with. There are many onsen baths, but the numerous stairs made it difficult for my mother with mobility issues. However, we were able to borrow a wheelchair and bring her close to the bath area, allowing her to enjoy a relaxing soak, which made her very happy. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were abundant and featured many mountain ingredients thoughtfully prepared for delicious enjoyment. My parents also appreciated how tasty the food was. However, perhaps because of the room's size, the heating wasn't very effective and it felt cold. Additionally, I would have liked a brush or comb provided in the room amenities as well as in the bath area. Overall though, it was an excellent ryokan that left us very satisfied!

I had a comfortable stay.
I had a comfortable stay. Although the hotel was fully booked, I was prepared for potential crowds, but with multiple shared baths available, there was no congestion. I could relax and enjoy the scenery while soaking. The layout of the building makes navigating inside a bit complex, but once you understand it, it’s not an issue.

The Onsen was excellent.
I booked a newly renovated room. The room was a spacious and beautiful Japanese-Western style with a semi-open-air bath. Although the facility shows some signs of aging, the highlight is being able to enjoy 15 types of onsen. It was unfortunate that it wasn't sourced directly from the spring, but the water quality was excellent. The open-air bath, in particular, offered stunning views of the Tone River and Mount Tanigawa, which were very relaxing. Dinner was a kaiseki meal; however, rice and drinks were self-service, which was slightly disappointing but still delicious. Since my stay focused on enjoying the onsen, I was overall very satisfied. Thank you!

1 night, 2 days stay during the first half of Golden Week
Check-in at 4:00 PM. Car keys can be handed over for valet parking. Reserved a room with a semi-open-air bath, which is slightly spacious for two people and designed as a concept room. There is a separate washroom, and the indoor bath has a large powder room for changing clothes, making it convenient to use. The indoor bath is spacious enough for three people and can be used anytime as the water temperature is adjusted regularly. The king-size double bed provides ample space for two people to sleep comfortably, with a mattress that’s neither too hard nor too soft. The room faces the river, offering soothing sounds of flowing water (though the river itself cannot be seen due to some distance). The facility seems to have been expanded over time, with three outdoor baths located at different levels of the building; they alternate between men’s and women’s use depending on the time of day. Bathing hours are from before dinner until 6:00 PM, after dinner from 7:00 PM to midnight, and in the morning if possible—allowing guests multiple opportunities to enjoy them all. Meals are served kaiseki-style with delicious flavors and beautiful presentation. While portions may not be very large—perhaps catering more towards older guests—they are satisfying overall. Breakfast is buffet-style with time slots available every 15 minutes to minimize waiting times; there was an abundant menu selection allowing us to enjoy our meal leisurely within about an hour. Although we didn’t use them during our stay, karaoke rooms, table tennis facilities, and an esthetic salon were also available—making it possible to enjoy your stay without leaving the premises. One minor drawback might be that JR Joetsu Line runs right next door; while not overly frequent or disruptive—it could bother sensitive individuals slightly when trains pass by occasionally.

Solo Trip with Your Beloved Dog
I stayed at D+ with my dog for a solo trip. The room was renovated, with new and clean facilities. It was spacious, and you could enjoy a view of Mount Tanigawa from the large windows. Being able to check in directly in the room was convenient as I didn’t have to worry about others around me. The room had no dog odor, and the dog dishes and toilet tray were clean, which made it easy for my dog to use them right away. There was also a luxurious and large bed for dogs, which made me very happy. Plenty of toilet sheets were provided as well. The meals were of significantly higher quality compared to other accommodations in the same price range that allow dogs. The sashimi served at dinner was fresh and high-quality, with dobin-mushi being my favorite dish. Breakfast was also delicious, featuring local specialties like river fish and motsu-ni. Nearby the facility, there is a plaza where you can enjoy foot baths and shops selling craft beer, so I had an enjoyable time without feeling bored. If I had to mention one thing that could be improved, it would be better if the sink area in the room and bathroom were cleaned more thoroughly. I didn’t use the onsen facilities so I cannot comment on them. With good accessibility and excellent meals and rooms for its price range, I think I'll visit again someday! It was a relaxing stay that helped me unwind—thank you very much!

Room Cleaning
The cleanliness of the room was not up to standard. At first glance, it appeared clean, but dog hair had gathered into dust bunnies and was tangled around the legs of the sofa. When I wiped the floor, the wet tissue turned black. The corners of the toilet's handwashing area were dusty. This wasn’t an issue during my previous stay—what happened this time?

The building is old, but the renovated Room is excellent.
The building is old, but the renovated room was excellent. The welcome drink area on the front floor, the restaurant, and the bath have a retro Showa-era feel. Dinner for children from the à la carte menu arrived late, leaving hungry kids feeling restless. The renovated room was very comfortable, clean, and satisfying. The "semi-open-air bath" in the room is just a bath with a window, which was slightly disappointing. It seemed that neither the bath in the room nor the family bath used Onsen water; it felt like regular hot water instead—though I wasn't entirely sure. Overall, satisfaction was high!

It was amazing!!!
We enjoyed a discounted stay for a birthday trip with the last-minute deal! The entrance was stylish, and even though we arrived a bit early, check-in was smooth. We stayed in the "Kiri" room, which was absolutely amazing! The room featured two large TVs, low beds, and access to Netflix on the TVs. Everything was new and clean! The semi-open-air private bath in the room was beautifully designed with lighting and spacious enough for multiple uses. Although the Ryokan itself is not brand new, it seems to have been renovated in parts, making it consistently comfortable throughout our stay. There were plenty of baths within the Ryokan for Onsen hopping, which added to our enjoyment. We were also impressed by free massage chairs available for use. While there were private baths as well, we felt that having both a private bath in our room and access to large public baths made it more than sufficient without needing additional options. Our meal plan included a mini banquet-style dinner with all-you-can-drink alcohol as well as self-serve rice, miso soup, and pickles—all of which left us very full! Since I am pregnant, they kindly adjusted my meal accordingly—a thoughtful gesture that made me very happy. The view of the river right outside added charm to our stay. Occasionally we could hear train sounds from our room due to frequent trains passing by nearby tracks; however, this did not bother us much at all. Across the river is a residential area—so while using Onsen or changing clothes near windows might require some caution—it wasn’t an issue for me personally. We hope to return someday when our family grows larger! Thank you so much!

For staying the night before skiing.
I made a reservation one month before the stay. On the Friday just before a three-day weekend, other properties were almost fully booked or extremely expensive... Just when I was about to give up, I found this hotel within my budget and managed to make a reservation. When I checked the amenities the day before departure, it was noted that there were no towels. Since it was reasonably priced, I gave up and prepared towels myself. However, upon checking in, not only were there towels but also yukatas with selectable sizes and even welcome drinks! The room had an anteroom where my spouse and I could relax after our child went to sleep. The room faced the back side so perhaps the view wasn't great, but since it had a train view our child was thrilled. There were three types of onsen available; as they switch between men and women at different times you can enjoy all if timed well. I only tried one type but it included two indoor baths and an open-air bath which left me very satisfied. For dinner we walked to a yakiniku restaurant in a nearby shopping street then stopped by a convenience store on our way back. Although there was heavy snow cover roads were well cleared making walking safe. Breakfast offered such luxurious buffet options including desserts that we indulged ourselves thoroughly. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we exceeded our planned departure time. Perhaps because checkout occurred Saturday morning things weren't too crowded; they brought around car without us waiting more than five minutes at entrance either! It felt like such wonderful value for money - definitely want use again next time. The floor with baths is cold from elevator exit all way through changing area. Those wearing yukata should remember bring haori (coat).

Stays for snowboarding
It was a plan with a view and tatami mats left to us, but the room was spacious enough for two people. The staff at the ryokan were very polite and kind. The disappointing point was that the dressing room and washing area of the bath were cold. Also, perhaps because the building is old, the smell of the toilet was a little concerning. I am satisfied because it was inexpensive with a lift ticket included.

Minakami Onsen
I will give a real review!! ~You can feel the history of Minakami Onsen~ I recommend going!! However, I hope the Hotel also focuses on "cleanliness" and keeps the aging facilities well-maintained and clean!! I hope they maintain and clean it so that it doesn't feel old!! If I had to say something, I think it would be good to upgrade the food a notch!! There are also foreign staff members, but they are very polite and doing their best! They also move the cars for you, but since there might be people with rental cars, I would like to park myself to avoid any issues! Please guide us. The bath is good, but I think a little maintenance would make it feel cleaner and better!! I was very satisfied. I thought it would be great if Minakami Onsen could be more revitalized!!

The food and Onsen were very good, but
We visited with our family during the New Year. There were many types of Onsen, and we were able to relax and enjoy them. The meals were delicious, but there were some disappointing aspects in terms of service, such as forgetting some dishes and serving dessert first, delays in being guided to our seats at the dining area, and the request to clear the futons the next morning not being communicated to the cleaning staff.

With dogs and children
I stayed for one night in a room with my dog. It was a new and lovely room. There was no animal smell at all. Although it was fully booked, I couldn't hear any barking from other dogs or noise from other rooms. Our dog is a Malpoo, but it was a bit unfortunate that the floor was slightly slippery. Since it was lovely, I was concerned about the dust on the light rod of the washbasin and some mold? on the bathroom ceiling. The staff were all kind, and when my child got burned, they immediately brought ice water. The children's meal was the same as the adults', so it would have been nice to have options for children's meals. Although we had in-room dining, there were three dishes per person that required fire, which I thought might be dangerous for families with children. The burn was our mistake, but I think if the table were a bit larger, there would have been more space for the dishes, and the burn might not have happened. Overall, the food was delicious, and it was a lovely room, so it was good. If I have the opportunity, I would like to stay again. Thank you very much.
