    The meals, Onsen, and staff are great, but the Facility and Rooms are old.

    I stayed one night in a Japanese-style room with the Mini Kaiseki plan. I was curious how the former Minakamikan had been renovated, but the Facility was mostly unchanged. I requested the Mini Kaiseki dinner, and it was delicious and more than enough. Breakfast was also sufficient. The staff were kind and pleasant.

    The stay was completely disappointing.

    The front desk staff were pleasant and average. This stay was in a Room on the new concept floor “Zaraku,” with a semi-open-air bath. However, I could not understand the appeal of this new concept at all. Although it is described as a semi-open-air bath, it was simply an in-room bathroom with windows, and it did not feel like a semi-open-air bath in any way. Worst of all, the bathroom, the adjoining wash area, and the guest room were separated only by shoji screens. The heat and humidity from the continuously flowing bath spread into the room, and there was black mold-like staining on the shoji on the bathroom side, likely due to moisture. That said, the Onsen itself felt great. Perhaps because of this, when we entered the room the air conditioner was already running at 22°C on maximum airflow. In addition, it was built into the wall in a way that made it very difficult to operate—changing temperature or airflow with the remote did not respond at all unless I stood on top of the sofa and stretched my arm up as far as possible to get it to react. Isn’t this room simply a design mistake? It did not feel comfortable at all. The visible areas were cleaned properly, but when I looked beside the bed for an outlet, there was dust buildup behind the bedside table and around outlets behind it. With humidity coming from the adjacent bathroom, I became worried about an electrical fire risk. The meals felt like banquet-hall food at an old-fashioned Showa-era Onsen Accommodation. Was there some kind of junior high/high school training camp? Dinner was in a different venue, but breakfast was packed with students. Because I was so disappointed with Room itself, my expectations for meals had dropped as well; overall I felt they were just okay—about what you’d expect. I don’t think I will return. I had also made another Reservation for October, but canceled it immediately after returning home (Canceling).

    Rafting Included — The Best

    I wanted to try rafting, so I booked a Plan that included rafting. The Shuttle Service was included, the rafting was a lot of fun, and the Hotel Room was spacious enough for four people. The meals also came with all-you-can-drink, and we were very satisfied. The Onsen had a wonderful atmosphere and was very relaxing. My family also said they would like to stay again.

    The building is extremely run-down.

    I made a Reservation for a renovated Room, but the lower-floor Room I was shown was very damp: the tatami flooring was warped, and stains on the walls and ceiling were unpleasant. As many reviews mention, it smelled musty, so it was impossible to relax. I explained the situation and asked to change Rooms. The front desk staff were very helpful and promptly moved me to an upper-floor Room, which I appreciated—but please be cautious about the lower-floor Rooms. The positive reviews are probably from guests who stayed in upper-floor Rooms with open-air baths. Despite the uneven Room quality, the meals were excellent.

    Gentle Memories at Zazan Minakami

    I stayed at Zazan Minakami for two days to visit Mt. Tanigawa. I made a Reservation with the most affordable Plan and chose the mini kaiseki dinner course. At around JPY 10,000 per person per night, it was very reasonably priced, so I didn’t have especially high expectations at first. However, the staff kindly prepared a top-floor Room for us, and the view of the Tone River from the window was truly soothing. The Room was spacious and bright, and I was able to relax comfortably. Every meal had gentle flavors and was wonderful. In particular, the tempura served at dinner on the second day was crispy on the outside and tender inside—more memorable than dishes I’ve had at luxury Hotels. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of wholesome dishes that made me happy every morning. Even though it was an inexpensive Plan, we received such attentive hospitality that I’m both surprised and deeply grateful. When I visit Mt. Tanigawa again, I would definitely like to stay here. Thank you very much for everything.

    Minakami, nestled in the mountains

    I booked a standard Japanese-style Room with a river view and an all-you-can-drink plan, but thanks to your kindness, my Room was upgraded. It was changed to a stylish Room with a semi-open-air bath, and I was able to relax comfortably—it was wonderful. I’d love to stay in this Room again. The meals weren’t flashy, but everything was warm and delicious. The all-you-can-drink draft beer was also great, and I left completely satisfied. There were many different baths, and it was fun deciding which one to try first. The building is spacious so I almost got lost, but each elevator had its own name and the guidance signs were easy to follow. There are also Rooms where you can stay with your dog, designed so you don’t have to run into other guests, which I thought was excellent. There’s a dog run as well, and the pet amenities seemed well stocked—next time I’d like to visit with my dog.

    Very satisfied!

    Dinner didn’t feel particularly luxurious, but it was well-seasoned and delicious. The all-you-can-drink option was also great because I could make drinks to my own taste. The breakfast buffet had a good selection, and like dinner, it was well-seasoned and very satisfying! The Room was spacious, and since we chose a Plan that included a private bath, we were able to enjoy various baths as well and fully relax. I think this is an Accommodation with great value for money.

    The food was delicious.

    The room was more spacious than expected, and the in-room bathtub was larger than it looked in the photos, so I enjoyed trying different baths along with the large public bath. However, it was disappointing to see a lot of hair left in the washbasins in the public bath changing room. Dinner was served in a private room, and the staff member who brought the dishes was very pleasant—around my parents’ age—so we enjoyed some warm conversation beyond just explanations of the food and were able to relax and take our time. At breakfast, everything was arranged to prevent lines from forming, which made it easy to choose. Even though it’s right by the river, I wasn’t bothered by any river noise and slept soundly.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    This was our first stay at a Ryokan with our dog. The Room was clean, and we were able to enjoy the Onsen many times, so we were very satisfied. Thank you very much. However, check-in was done in the Room, and I think our dog’s barking may have been loud, but it was disappointing that there were misunderstandings about breakfast time and the dinner drinks order. The staff member seemed uncomfortable with dogs and left the Room as if to get away. I believe there are many dogs that do not like strangers entering their space. In such cases, it might be better to allow check-in via an in-house phone or online. Other than that, the parking staff were also dog-friendly, and overall I think this is a very nice Accommodation.

    The meals were excel...

    The meals were excellent, and the attendant at dinner responded promptly and efficiently. There is also a special feeling in being able to see Joetsu Line trains up close from the dining area. We stayed in a Room with an in-room bath. It is located apart from the other Rooms, giving it an exclusive feel, but it is far from the large public bath and the dining area, and there are stairs as well. I also saw elderly guests struggling to get around at mealtimes. Would it be possible to take an elevator within this building to an upper floor and then move horizontally to reach the large public bath and dining area? Inside the Room, the closet is in the same unit as the bath and washbasin, so hangers become damp. Could hangers be placed in or near the living area instead? We encountered several unfamiliar insects. I removed them with tissues, but that leaves marks. Since this is in the mountains, insects are expected at an Onsen Accommodation, but could you at least provide something like adhesive tape for removal?

    I often visit Onsen in Minakami, and this was my first stay here. I was able to spend a relaxing, unhurried time in a clean Room with a private Onsen. The kaiseki meal served in a private dining room was delicious—thank you very much. I will definitely come again. Thank you for taking such good care of us during our stay.

    A Luxurious Solo Getaway

    I didn’t think I’d have another chance to travel on a weekday for a while, so I treated myself to a solo trip and stayed in a Japanese-Western concept Room with a semi-open-air bath. The building felt old overall, but it had character and was very calming. The Room was wonderful: the spacious bed plus tatami area made it easy to relax, and the chair was so comfortable I honestly wanted one at home. The window was large, and with the river flowing right below, it felt truly atmospheric. In the guest room, the newly installed bath area and the original plumbing area coexisted, which made it slightly inconvenient at times and occasionally brought me back from “getaway mode” to everyday life—but it wasn’t a major issue. The best part of this trip by far was the open-air bath! At Bokusui no Yu, both the open-air bath and indoor bath have high ceilings and feel very spacious. Since it was a weekday and my timing was good, it felt almost private, and soaking in nature was incredibly soothing. I used the open-air bath twice and also took two baths in my Room—this truly became a hot-spring-focused trip. From passing through the noren curtain to reaching the changing room is quite a walk in the bathing area, so I found myself thinking nervously, “Am I going the right way?” I personally enjoyed that sense of adventure, but adding a bit more signage might make it easier to understand. Moving between the indoor bath and open-air bath also involves stairs at points, so I wasn’t sure whether wearing yukata there was actually correct—I had to figure things out as I went (lol). Since it was late March rather than midwinter, it wasn’t too cold and felt just right. For dinner at night, I thought it would be served in my Room, so I was slightly disappointed that it ended up being in a separate private dining room. The dishes felt fairly classic overall, but everything tasted great. At breakfast buffet , there were local specialties as well as Japanese-, Western-, Chinese-style options—so much variety that I really enjoyed it. Throughout Accommodation—at check-in/out , restaurants , etc.—every staff member greeted me warmly and responded pleasantly. Thanks to them , my stay felt peaceful from start to finish . It’s unfortunate that “Okutone Hachiyu” service had been suspended during my visit, but I was surprised that even here could be affected by developments related to Iran . I hope you’ll be able to return soon your usual services . This time visiting Minakami Station—the last stop on line—for first time , and if opportunity arises , would love stay again at Hotel .

    We were contacted by the public health center for an interview as part of an investigation following a reported measles case.

    At a typical Ryokan, I believe it would be appropriate to contact guests as well as the public health center. It seems they reported me as a measles patient, even though I only had hay fever with a runny nose and watery eyes, and the questioning took a long time. Being spoken to based on assumptions was unpleasant. The father in the family who was occupying the dog run during daylight hours even though there were no dogs there also looked unwell—this is what “assumptions” are. The Room has been renovated and matched the photos, but I was surprised that the towels were yellowed. The sheets were already very wrinkled when we entered, which made me worry about whether they had been properly washed. The meals for people were average. The meals for dogs were excellent—definitely order them for your dog. We will not return because of the phone incident.

    It was excellent.

    The Facility was a bit old, but it was clean and there were no issues. We visited for a snowboarding trip, and we had fun at night using the table tennis table (paid). The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. The food was much better than expected. The bath was spacious and great as well. However, I would have liked the sauna to be a bit hotter and to have a cold plunge pool (though that may be asking too much of an Onsen Ryokan). I would love to stay again.

    It made for a wonderful anniversary.

    I stayed here for my birthday, and the Room was larger and cleaner than I expected. I was a bit worried because many Reviews said it felt old, but the building was very spacious, full of character, and wonderful. The Plan said dinner would be in a private room, but it was served in the dining venue. However, at Hotel check-in they told me, “You won the lottery, so we’ll gift you a snow crab dinner,” and I was so satisfied that I completely forgot about the private-room detail and just enjoyed the meal! I chose the meat option, and it was very filling. The best part was that rice, miso soup, and pickles were all-you-can-eat—and alcohol was all-you-can-drink. There were a couple of spots in the Room with a little dust left behind, but otherwise it was extremely comfortable and I’m very satisfied. I loved the bath in my Room so much that I used it many times during my stay! My only regret is that because the Room had everything I needed, I didn’t make it to the large public bath with 15 different baths—next time I definitely want to go. It was also easy to relax since I could watch YouTube on the TV. The design is so beautiful that every photo looks great—I’d love to stay again. The Shuttle Service made everything even better; from getting off the bullet train onward, I could truly take it easy. It turned into two wonderful days.

    We stayed here for the first time in about 20 years, as it was a long weekend and we went skiing in Minakami. We were looking for an Accommodation with an in-room bath, and this one came up. There were three large public baths, but since they are in separate buildings and operate on a time-based men/women rotation system, we used two of them. The changing rooms did not have large lockers with keys. The showers felt quite old. What bothered us was the hair dryer—it only blew cold air—so I got chilled while waiting to meet my family and ended up taking another bath. Dinner was served individually, and it was luxurious and very delicious; our child was happy too. The next morning’s buffet started at 7:00, but we went early and they opened for us. There was a wide variety of items, and the pudding we had the night before was available again, so I enjoyed it once more. At check-out, the staff brought our car around to the entrance at the front desk, which really helped since we had ski gear. I used the in-room bath many times—the water left my skin feeling smooth—and I appreciated that water was provided in the Room. I was also surprised (in a good way) that they even laid out the futon for us, which is rare these days.

    The Room was far too cold, so I contacted the front desk and they brought a kerosene heater—the same type as the one already in the Room. The Room’s air conditioner was running, but the kerosene heater had not been lit. The room temperature was 10°C. Isn’t it common sense to warm up Rooms in advance before guests arrive? In the end, I didn’t need to use the extra heater; after that it became warm. However, the smell of kerosene lingered for a while. The hallway was extremely cold. After taking off my slippers at the bath area, I had to walk a long way on tatami mats; there were mats laid down along the way (apparently because water was coming onto the floor), and when I walked over them my socks got completely soaked. The changing room was cold. The bath itself wasn’t bad. On the way back to my Room my socks were wet, so I wore slippers barefoot through a freezing hallway; by the time I reached my Room, my body had gotten chilled. The dinner venue was warm and felt like a relief. The Nepalese staff were also kind. The breakfast venue was cold. Please inform Sazan’s management about this. It would be better not to make this public.

    Stayed here at the end of the year. The meals were delicious, and I appreciated the focus on Gunma and Teradomari specialties. However, the shared areas, especially the hallways, were cold, making it uncomfortable to move around in yukata and outerwear—please consider increasing the temperature. Additionally, the clock in the sauna was broken, making it difficult to time sauna sessions. While the private bath was excellent, some facilities in the public bath were out of order and lacked proper maintenance, which was disappointing.

    It was our first trip to Minakami Onsen. We searched for a Ryokan where we could stay with our pet and made a Reservation. At the entrance of our Room, there was a colored paper with our pet's name and an illustration, which touched us deeply. Dinner was served in the Room, while breakfast was a buffet; both were delicious. The buffet featured many local dishes, and the layout made it easy to access the food. The dog run wasn't very spacious, but even in light rain, the ground—covered with grass or fallen leaves—kept our pet's paws mostly clean. We had a memorable one-night trip with our 14-year-old beloved dog. We hope to visit again while our dog is still healthy!

    The building has a renovated feel, and the facilities are newly equipped. We reserved an onsen-attached room where we could stay with our dog. Although it felt a bit expensive, this seems to be the standard nowadays. Meals were delivered to our room, allowing us to relax comfortably. Spring is said to be nice, but autumn is considered the best season with beautiful autumn leaves. Taking the ropeway to Mount Tanigawa is recommended, and dogs are allowed on the ropeway as well.

    Amazing Onsen with breathtaking views

    We visited this Onsen accommodation with a view of Mt. Tanigawa for a family trip. The Onsen, associated with Wakayama Bokusui, had excellent water quality and the building had a charming atmosphere that felt truly relaxing. The room was so quiet and comfortable that it felt as if there were no guests next door. Considering the colder season, I thought having socks available would be nice. Although the room was far from Mt. Tanigawa, we could see it clearly from there. The view was stunning and left us deeply impressed, offering different sceneries during daytime, evening, and morning. One disappointment was that the dining area wasn’t private and required us to cook some dishes ourselves. For a special trip like this, private dining with fully prepared meals would have enhanced our satisfaction even more. However, the taste of the food was excellent—especially the hot pot with pork shabu-shabu style and beef steak were delicious! All vegetables were also very fresh and tasty. Breakfast was buffet-style with plenty of options—all healthy-looking and delicious—which made us happy. The shuttle bus to the Shinkansen station made access surprisingly convenient and travel easy for us. The staff provided clear explanations during guidance and answered our questions politely, which we appreciated greatly. Since dining at their restaurant worked well too, we are considering visiting again in the future!

It's an excellent choice for those prioritizing meal quality and spaciousness/cleanliness of rooms!
