    Recommended for solo travelers.

    Approximately 20 minutes by shuttle service from Enzan Station, this historic accommodation offers a secluded onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. As someone who doesn’t drive and often travels alone, I was delighted to find a solo traveler plan when searching on IKYU.com. From the warm and welcoming greeting at the station, my expectations for the accommodation grew. Upon arrival, I was met with attentive hospitality from the staff. During meals, their unobtrusive yet thoughtful service made for an incredibly comfortable experience. Although many guests seemed to be staying at the accommodation, it felt quiet and peaceful as I rarely encountered others. Perhaps coincidentally, there were many senior guests during my stay who made friendly conversation or exchanged greetings in the baths, adding to a pleasant atmosphere. The onsen itself was exactly what I had hoped for—natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source. The open-air bath surrounded by nature was so inviting that I stayed until nearly overheating! Each bath had designated times exclusively for women, allowing me to enjoy all of them fully. The room was simple but comfortable and provided a relaxing stay. The photo shows the view from my room where red dragonflies were flying around abundantly. Although my visit felt short-lived, this has become an accommodation I would love to return to again someday!

    Onsen - Excellent

    A slightly sulfur-scented Onsen. Leaves your skin smooth all day long. A truly wonderful Onsen. I will visit again. Relaxing and satisfying experience.

    55th Anniversary

    It was an Onsen trip to celebrate 55 years of marriage and my husband's 77th birthday. The Onsen was excellent, though it was a pity we didn't use the private bath. The meals were delicious, the staff were kind, and it's an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    After walking through Nishizawa Gorge, I stayed one night at Yamagatakan. The Onsen here is perfect for soothing a tired body, especially the open-air "Keiryu Miyabi-no-Yu," which offers a memorable bathing experience accompanied by the gentle sound of the stream. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared, providing a stable sense of satisfaction without being overly extravagant. While the service was generally polite, there were moments where explanations felt insufficient, offering a glimpse into some challenges faced by the Ryokan industry today.

    Swallows were buildi...

    Swallows were building a nest on the balcony of the Room, and adorable swallows were flying around. However, there was bird droppings on the window. I wanted to enjoy the mountain air from the Room, but it was unfortunate that I couldn't open the window. Keeping it closed for three days was tough. We stayed for two nights seeking natural hot spring water, but the ingredient list mentioned chlorine disinfection for hygiene purposes. The neighboring Room's conversations and a high-pitched noise, possibly from water pipes, continued intermittently in our Room. The meals were delicious. On the second day at lunch, they offered soba or udon if requested by breakfast time; however, we did not use this service. Thank you to all staff members for your kindness!

    Excellent

    Due to limited time, I used the day-use service. The Room was upgraded, and I was impressed by its spaciousness. The private kaiseki lunch was delicious, and I reserved a private Onsen for a relaxing soak. This is a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

    Wonderful Onsen

    The Onsen is excellent. It's slightly lukewarm, but perfect for a long soak. There are Room baths with natural hot spring water flowing directly, and the open-air baths are also wonderful. However, climbing up and down the stone steps can be a bit challenging. The meals were delicious, and it was quiet and relaxing. I stayed in a room with an open-air bath, but I wish the chairs in the Western-style room were more comfortable for lounging.

    Accommodation with a wonderful Onsen

    It was a trip for two. Due to unexpected snow, we decided to take the train. Even though it was the same day, we were able to take a shuttle bus from the station. The baths at Yamagatakan are exceptional. The onsen features: ① Yakushi-no-Yu with two open-air baths and a large indoor bath, ② Shingen-ko Iwaburo with three rock baths, each slightly different in temperature, and ③ Seseragi-no-Yu with one open-air bath and a large indoor bath. These three bathing areas alternate between men and women at different times, allowing access to all of them. Among these, Shingen-ko Iwaburo felt like a hidden gem and was absolutely amazing. The meals were also very delicious; the horse sashimi was outstanding. This is truly an excellent accommodation where you can relax completely. The staff were kind and made our stay very pleasant.

    Accommodation with a Quiet Sense of History

    If you are looking for an elegant accommodation with a sense of history, free from noisy families, disruptive foreign tourists, or loud young guests, this is the place. I stayed alone and was very satisfied with my experience. Since it is an old ryokan, expecting luxury would be a mistake and should not affect its evaluation. The meals were not served in a chaotic buffet-style venue but were carefully prepared for each guest individually. Both breakfast and dinner were lightly seasoned and easy to enjoy. This accommodation is not suitable for those accustomed to modern facilities or those who seek lively entertainment. It offers a serene atmosphere where you can feel the history and enjoy peaceful moments.

    To celebrate my mother's 90th birthday

    11 years ago, I was invited by my mother to stay with my brother's family, making a total of 11 people. Two years ago, I stayed again with just my mother. Since then, I had decided in my heart that we would celebrate her 90th birthday at her favorite place, Yamagatakan. This season, we were worried about the spread of colds and such, but thankfully everyone was able to come safely. It became an unforgettable day with the wonderful Onsen, meals, and hospitality. The time spent talking leisurely in the spacious room was irreplaceable and made my mother very happy. Thank you very much indeed.

    Natural hot spring, no heating, no added water

    It was an excellent Onsen as described in the title. The Facility retained its Showa-era charm, but given the pricing, there were no complaints. The meals were delicious and appropriately portioned (though the strawberry milk gelatin dessert was somewhat questionable). I will visit again.

    Beach and Mountain

    Very satisfied.

    It is not exceptionally luxurious. However, it is well-cleaned and very tidy. The Room has a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era. It is perfect for spending a quiet and relaxing time. The environment is simply excellent. It is peaceful and calming. What stands out the most is the "hot water"—the hot water is truly exceptional. The open-air bath is slightly lukewarm, making it ideal for long soaks. The fresh hot spring water flows directly from the source. The meals, made with the blessings of Yamanashi, were highly satisfying.

    Wonderful

    Thank you for your hospitality the other day. It was a wonderful Stays. The Onsen, the guest Room, the open-air bath in the Room, and the open-air bath along the river were all excellent. However, as I get older, I tend to eat less, and unfortunately, I couldn't finish the meal despite its quality. It would be nice to have a menu tailored for the elderly. It was cold, but I would love to visit this Property again in a different season.

    It is an old Ryokan, but the room is kept clean. However, the items placed are too old, such as the dust on the baskets in the changing room, which made me reluctant to use them. I think it would be better not to have them at all. The service is good, but despite having young staff, everything stands out as old. The Onsen water is truly wonderful. Unfortunately, the rock bath; I feel there is no need for mixed bathing. There are alternating times for men and women, but if you check in late, it becomes mixed bathing from 6:30 PM, and the lights are too bright, making me nervous about someone coming in while I was bathing. I wanted to enjoy it slowly. But maybe many people don't mind mixed bathing. Perhaps because there are many elderly guests, the meals feel somewhat lacking, but maybe they are targeting a senior clientele.

    The meals and hot springs were great! The open-air bath had a charming atmosphere, and the water made my skin smooth, which was nice. There was no private bath or washbasin in the room, and the amenities weren't modern, but I was very satisfied with that!
