    たか@:

    Thank you for your patronage.

The open-air bath in the room was spacious and relaxing, with perfectly warm water and excellent quality. Time flew by as we enjoyed the Onsen and had a massage. For dinner, we requested teppanyaki, but unfortunately, we couldn't meet our usual chef this time. The dessert was delicious. For breakfast, some menu changes were made upon request, and we enjoyed it all to the last bite. My husband requested futons instead of beds, which were kindly prepared for us, allowing him to sleep soundly. Thank you very much. Everyone greeted us warmly in the hallways, making our stay enjoyable. We would love to visit again someday! Thank you so much!

    A Refreshing Retreat

Thank you for taking care of us for three days. Every visit is always wonderful. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the private open-air onsen in the room was excellent for warming up the body. For dinner, we enjoyed freshly cooked tempura and grilled meat right in front of us, which increased our appetite, and we finished everything—each dish reflected the love from the accommodation. Breakfast was served buffet-style with a wide variety of options, and warm dishes were served warm with great attention to detail. The tantanmen noodles were especially delicious—I couldn’t resist going back for seconds multiple times! I’d love to learn the recipe someday. The daily taiko drum performance is always moving no matter how many times I watch it. The perfect synchronization shows how much effort all staff members put into it. I truly love Keizan! Thank you for your kind support during my reservation process as well—I really appreciate it. Whenever I visit Yamanashi, I will definitely stay here again. Looking forward to seeing you next time!

    The Art of Hospitality

From check-in to room guidance, the large public bath, dining area, and moving around the facility, the staff's assistance and warm greetings were exceptional. The drum show was performed with professional-level skill—hard to believe they are accommodation staff by profession. The natural hot spring was truly relaxing, and both the staff and facilities provided a very soothing experience at this excellent accommodation. Next time, I would like to stay in Shokyakuden.

    The Essence of Hospitality

It was a very nice Ryokan. This time, we stayed in a room with a private Onsen and included dinner and breakfast. About the facility: The private Onsen was very relaxing. The public bath was also pleasant, but the water temperature was slightly low, which was a bit disappointing. About the meals: Dinner was served in a private dining room, and it was very satisfying. The freshly fried tempura and grilled Koshu beef were all delicious. Breakfast was buffet-style, with plenty of variety and quantity to enjoy. About the staff: Everyone had great attention to detail and hospitality, making our stay comfortable. At night, there was an impressive Taiko drum performance by the staff in the lobby. Other notes: There is parking across the road; however, it is slightly narrow. Due to another car being parked unevenly next to us, one of my family members couldn't get out of our car door. We requested to change parking spots as a result.

    Relax and unwind.

I visited after a long time and loved that you can choose the main dish for dinner. The breakfast selection is impressive, and I recommend the curry and omelet. The Room bath is spacious, allowing for relaxing soaks multiple times, which helped relieve my fatigue.

    Room with special conditions

Third stay at this accommodation. This time, we chose a Japanese-style room since it was for two people. The room we were guided to was right next to the elevator. It looked like a combination of Japanese and Western styles. While it’s called a "Japanese-Western style room," only the Japanese area is shoe-free, and there’s a large shoe cabinet next to the bed. The most surprising part was the small sink—it was incredibly low. It seemed like it might have originally been just a handwashing station for the toilet? There’s also a shelf installed right above it, making it impossible to wash your face properly. Brushing teeth felt unpleasant because of this setup. When leaving the room, you end up making eye contact with people waiting for the elevator. Dinner portions were quite small, and an extra serving of rice cost 110 yen. The "Houtou" soup tasted like diluted miso soup and wasn’t good at all. However, since it was my wife’s birthday, they surprised us with a cake from the accommodation, which made us happy—thank you very much. Unfortunately, due to that overly low sink in our room, this trip turned out to be disappointing overall.

    Relax and unwind.

I have visited several times, and every time the staff is cheerful, friendly, and welcoming, which always lifts my spirits and relieves my fatigue. The facility has an older charm but is well-maintained with great attention to cleanliness, making it very reassuring. The room is equipped with excellent services, thorough cleaning, and a wide variety of amenities, so there’s no need to bring anything extra. If possible, I would appreciate having two yukatas provided in the room since there was a charge for additional ones this time. As it’s an onsen accommodation where you tend to sweat more often, I had to request another yukata at the front desk during my stay. It would be helpful if they were prepared in advance in the room. As for the meals, while there wasn’t any particularly memorable dish, considering the accommodation fee of ¥○○○○ (please insert amount), I found them satisfactory overall. I look forward to visiting again when I need some rest and relaxation. Thank you!

    Drum

The taiko drum performance by the staff was impressive and truly captivating. Do they perform every day? Their skills are exceptional. However, the taxi arranged by the front desk departed without knowing the destination and dropped me off at a different location than instructed. It had no GPS, and I ended up walking for 20 minutes, almost causing me to be late for my plans. While this is not the front desk's fault, partnering with reliable service providers is an important responsibility of management.

It was a same-day reservation, but the accommodation provided excellent service.

The largest Onsen Accommodation in Isawa Onsen. Despite making a same-day Reservation, the meals were satisfying, and the experienced staff provided excellent service. The convenience store inside the Ryokan was very handy, offering a variety of ice creams sourced from across the whole country for comparison tasting. A taiko drum show is held in the lobby from 8:30 PM. The breakfast buffet the next morning was even more delicious than dinner. The grapes sold in the lobby at checkout were perfect as souvenirs and could be purchased at a very reasonable price. Thank you!

    It wasn't cold!

At check-in, I was told, "It was a last-minute reservation, so we couldn't prepare the samui." Does it take several days to prepare the samui? Also, shouldn't there be an announcement during the reservation process stating that "samui cannot be provided for last-minute reservations"? I spent my time in a yukata and had no inconvenience, but it felt somewhat casual in terms of service.

    Thank you for your patronage.

I was able to stay at the accommodation at a great discount this time. Since it was a last-minute decision, I didn’t have high expectations, but the food was delicious, the bath was excellent, and I was impressed by the variety of dishes at the breakfast buffet. However, while the overall building has a retro Showa-era feel and some age is noticeable, everything was well-cleaned and I had a very comfortable stay. It seems there are newly built special rooms that look very appealing; I'm curious about those as well. Next time, I might splurge a little and try staying in one of them. The staff were kind, cheerful, and hardworking—it’s truly an admirable accommodation. Thank you for your hospitality! I look forward to visiting again when I'm in the area.

The bathroom in the Room was great!

I decided to stay here on short notice after being introduced by an acquaintance. Recently, I’ve found dinner portions to be overwhelming, so I opted for a breakfast-only plan. Since it’s a large hotel, the public bath was truly spacious. Our family loves onsen (especially when it's natural hot spring water), so we often choose rooms with open-air baths. The room's bath here was semi-open-air but very spacious and featured natural hot spring water! It was arguably the largest we’ve ever experienced, with consistently maintained water temperature that made for a comfortable stay. However, the air towel surprised us at night and felt unnecessary. With the recent heatwave leaving me exhausted, I appreciated being able to relax in the onsen and unwind at my own pace. The breakfast buffet was ordinary despite its high reviews in other feedback.

Surprisingly good value for money despite low expectations.

A large-scale Showa-era Ryokan, for better or worse. I booked a cheap last-minute Plan without much expectation, considering only the price and location (midway on my route home). However, after reading Reviews about the dinner being disappointing, I wondered if I had made a mistake. At check-in, I received an information sheet about the facilities and was surprised to see that getting a second serving of rice at dinner costs 110 yen. A Ryokan like this still exists? Additionally, you need to bring towels from your Room to the Onsen; extra towels are charged. Bringing in food or drinks incurs a fee as well. These money-related notes were somewhat off-putting. Being such a large-scale Ryokan accommodating various guests from Japan and abroad, perhaps these rules are measures against bad manners—but they felt overly explicit (laughs). You don’t often see this elsewhere. When guided to my Room by a young trainee woman without any smile or warmth in her demeanor (possibly the same person mentioned in other Reviews), it was intimidating. During breakfast cleanup by an experienced staff member, there were some leftover crumbs on our table after clearing dishes from previous guests. When I politely asked if she could wipe it down as well, she curtly replied with "I know!" which made me glance at her name tag instinctively. Even during busy times like Obon with many guests around, such customer service is questionable. That said—other staff members were wonderful! Starting with the man guiding us at parking and others greeting us warmly every time we passed them in hallways—they left positive impressions overall! It’s unfortunate how just one or two individuals can affect perceptions of an Accommodation negatively; hence my detailed comment here. As for dinner—the much-anticipated part—it exceeded expectations due to lowered initial hopes! The meal quality seemed improved compared to past Reviews; for its price point alone—it was decent enough! There was even creative effort evident through unique dishes like sesame tofu topped with mango sauce (a puzzling combination but appreciated creativity nonetheless). Drink menus & instructions flowed smoothly too! The Room itself—though old—was spacious & cleanly maintained while fresh flowers adorned elevator areas beautifully adding charm throughout premises alongside luxurious breakfast offerings matching glowing Review claims earlier read online plus exceptional Onsen water quality ranking best among five stays during this Obon trip altogether making value-for-money reasonable overall despite minor An accommodation that always soothes your fatigue

You can feel the meticulous attention to detail, from room cleaning to amenities. This accommodation is filled with the kindness of all staff members from the moment you arrive until your departure. Traveling with small children can be exhausting, but upon arriving at Keizan, kids can play freely, enjoy magic and drum shows at night, and settle down with dessert service in the room. The amenities and rental items are well-equipped, so just bringing a change of clothes is enough. Meals are plentiful; even for elementary school-aged children, sharing an adult portion is sufficient. The late-night ramen at the izakaya was fantastic! Both the private bath in the room and the large public bath were excellent—we enjoyed them multiple times with our kids. Recently added nearby attractions make it even more enjoyable, and its location allows easy access in all directions—east, west, south or north—making this accommodation highly recommended when staying in Yamanashi. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Unfortunately, yet beyond expectations.

On the day of check-in, I received a confirmation call around noon but couldn't answer as I was driving. When I called back, I was informed that a group of 380 guests was staying. There was no suggestion for a callback, and honestly, I felt frustrated and wished for prior notice. However, this group turned out to be students preparing for exams in a training camp. They were well-mannered, and there were no issues during my stay. In fact, although the public bath had some restricted hours due to the group, I could still enjoy Isawa's hot springs at my own pace. The parking staff and room guides provided excellent service with pleasant attitudes; however, the reception staff's attitude could use some improvement. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with plenty of variety to enjoy thoroughly. The service from the staff during meals was also commendable. The room itself had amenities as good as or even better than those at Boro Noguchi in Hokkaido where I'd stayed before—showing thoughtful attention from what seemed like the proprietress' care.

    I revisited after a ...

I revisited after a few years, but unfortunately, it left me with disappointment. At check-in, I was not given the Room key. When I asked the staff, they said it should be on the table in the Room, but it was nowhere to be found. Even after informing them about the missing key, both the staff and cleaning personnel insisted that they had placed it there as if it were my fault. I almost considered leaving at that point. After some time, they mentioned that "it might be in another Room" and handed me a spare key instead. While using the bath, I couldn't relax as I kept worrying about my Room's situation. Eventually, about two hours later, we found the key under a misplaced chair cushion in our Room. Leaving keys on tables in Rooms seems like an unnecessary risk and makes no sense to me at all. The quality of meals also seemed to have declined significantly; only the Onsen was worth appreciating during this stay.

An accommodation where the staff works together as one team.

The staff, many of whom are older, were attentive in various situations, and the large public bath gave a nostalgic feeling reminiscent of an old-fashioned Onsen accommodation. The drum performance by the staff after dinner was also impressive, showcasing their teamwork and dedication. However, during dinner at the dining area with four groups present, it felt like a remnant of banquet-style service. While it may be due to pre-prepared dishes, the sashimi was lukewarm, enoki mushrooms in the hot pot were dry and stuck to the edge of the pot, and the seasoned rice felt overly moist. A little extra effort to ensure better taste would have been appreciated. Since bringing food is not allowed despite having a no-dinner plan available, I would prefer to eat beforehand if I visit again.

The hot spring quality is exceptional.

This time, I stayed in a room with an open-air bath and sauna, and the quality of the Isawa Onsen water was excellent, making my stay very comfortable. Guest Room & Amenities The air conditioning worked fine at lower temperatures, but when set to a slightly higher temperature like 27°C, there was an unpleasant smell. This was disappointing. Other than that, I had a comfortable stay. Hospitality & Service There were traditional guestroom introductions upon arrival, and thoughtful services such as desserts prepared in the room after meals. The service was excellent. Onsen & Bath The quality of Isawa Onsen water itself is great, and both the sauna and bath in the room were so enjoyable that I used them multiple times. Facility & Equipment While many ryokans around Isawa Onsen have an older feel overall, this accommodation retained its charm while also being renovated nicely. It was well-maintained. Dining They entertained guests by frying tempura right in front of us and offered a wide variety of dishes. For accommodations in this price range, it felt satisfying. Being able to order ramen as room service for a late-night snack was also a nice touch.

The quality of the Onsen water is excellent.

The facility and amenities feel a bit dated. In particular, the limited number of outlets in the guest room (Japanese-style) made charging smartphones and smartwatches challenging. However, the quality of the onsen water is excellent, leaving the skin smooth and soft. The hospitality from the staff is very warm, making for a comfortable stay. This is a charming traditional onsen accommodation that we highly recommend.

    Traveling with Elderly Parents

We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath at Shokakuden for my elderly parents with mobility issues. The natural flowing Onsen made everyone's skin smooth, and they were delighted. Dinner was served in a private room, and breakfast was a buffet. As requested in advance, the staff kindly cut the meat into small pieces for my parents with dental issues. From freshly fried tempura to appetizers and desserts, everything was incredibly delicious. Handmade jelly and pudding by the patissier were chilled in the room's refrigerator, showcasing thoughtful hospitality throughout our stay. The staff's service was also exceptional. Although the building itself shows some age, it is thoroughly cleaned, allowing us to enjoy a very pleasant stay until check-out. While we didn’t use it this time, I noticed that smoking rooms are impressively arranged within the room layout—making it highly recommended for smokers as well!

    Would love to visit again!

Traditional hospitality with a warm welcome and farewell. You can choose your favorite yukata pattern before being guided to your room. The lobby is filled with the pleasant scent of fresh flowers. The large public bath and open-air bath are spacious, equipped with baby-friendly amenities, making it suitable even for small children. The private open-air bath in the room is also spacious and features natural flowing onsen water, allowing for a relaxing stay without needing to visit the public baths. However, there was some slipperiness at the edges of the private open-air bath tub; we cleaned it with a towel before bedtime and enjoyed it leisurely in the morning. The onsen feels like soaking in lotion, leaving your skin smooth and soft. Dinner was delicious overall. Although one pot of shirasu rice didn’t cook well due to insufficient heat, its rich flavor made up for it. Tempura was freshly fried right in front of us—crispy and delightful! Houtou noodles were quite mild in taste. The beef grilling sauce and Keizan pickles were so good that we bought eight packs as souvenirs from the gift shop upon departure. The taiko drum performance at 8:30 PM after dinner was impressive as well! Unfortunately, we couldn’t try ramen inside the hotel as mentioned in reviews because it wasn’t available during our stay (a bit disappointing). However, having a convenience store within the facility was very helpful. For breakfast, instead of a private dining option, we chose buffet style which offered an extensive variety that left us spoiled for choice! A whole banana served individually stood out as unique. Yogurt was rich and tasty; omelets were prepared fresh with ingredients of our choice—absolutely delicious! Hotel curry had generous chunks of meat and tasted amazing too; Keizan pickles were also served during breakfast. There were still many dishes left untasted due to time constraints but one female staff member kindly said goodbye with a smile: “Please come back again to enjoy more next time—we’ll be waiting!” Thank you so much to President Keizan and all staff members for their hospitality—we look forward to visiting again soon!

    LUCKY LIFE

Maybe it would have been better without dinner.

For the first night, I stayed at another accommodation in Isawa Onsen. For the second night, I chose an accommodation listed on IKYU.com, thinking it would be a good deal with the last-minute discount. However, I regretted this choice due to the disappointing dinner. I have experienced various kaiseki meals at different accommodations before, but this one was shockingly low in quality—worse than homemade meals or set menus. My satisfaction level was zero. I wish I had read reviews on various sites more carefully beforehand. The five-star plaque displayed at the hotel—was it only for the onsen? The quality of the onsen water was excellent; it warmed me up quickly and left my skin smooth. If you are considering a no-meals-included stay or just a day trip for the onsen alone, your satisfaction might be slightly higher based solely on that aspect. The breakfast buffet was better compared to dinner but still left much to be desired overall. The disappointment from dinner lingered strongly and made me regret choosing Isawa Onsen for two consecutive nights. The accommodation I originally wanted to book had no availability, so I opted for this one with its last-minute discount instead. However, regarding dinner: is there anyone who could truly enjoy such uninspired kaiseki cuisine? It felt like it only looked good in photos but lacked substance entirely. Additionally, there were issues with drainage in the private bath attached to my room—it drained so poorly that I worried about water overflowing into other areas of the room. I hope this review is helpful as a reference!

    The bath is excellent!

We stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The private onsen in the room was spacious enough for two people to stretch out and soak comfortably, making it hard to leave! The staff member assigned to our room was from abroad, but their service was impeccable and outstanding! Dinner felt a bit rushed at times, and the portion size might be slightly small for men. However, the menu offered great variety and was enjoyable. The breakfast buffet had an extensive selection, which left us very satisfied! Both of the large public baths were spacious and incredibly relaxing!

    Traditional Accommodation

Yamanashi Prefecture is within a day-trip distance, but I was very interested in Isawa Onsen, so I searched for an accommodation offering reasonable prices and delicious meals (maybe a bit too convenient...). Keizan Onsen is a long-established accommodation where the dinner was served individually at chair seating and was both luxurious and delicious. Breakfast was a buffet with various options, which were also tasty. The baths alternate between male and female use daily, allowing us to enjoy both. It turned out to be a delightful 1-night, 2-day trip that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed. Next time, we would love to bring our sons along!
