    Overall, I’m satisfied, but there were a few areas that felt like missed opportunities.

    The best part was that, as an auberge, the food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner, and the portions were very satisfying—truly wonderful. It was my girlfriend’s first time drinking wine, and she was delighted, saying the muscat wine was very delicious. The service was flawless, and the Room was clean and comfortable to stay in. I also really appreciated that you contacted us promptly after checkout about an item we had left behind. One small area for improvement: I’m not great with heat, but during the daytime the Room temperature didn’t drop easily. I was happy that the Room was spacious with great sunlight, but even with the air conditioner set to maximum it still didn’t cool down much during the day. I felt a unit with higher kW capacity would be better. Since it was a hot season and the garden was wonderful, I think we could have relaxed even more if we could cool down comfortably in the Room after spending time outside. Also, because there is a garden and an open-air bath, insects are somewhat unavoidable—but for those who dislike bugs, this season may be a bit tough. My companion hates insects and couldn’t use the open-air bath, which was disappointing. We would be happy if there were a bit more insect control measures in place. Especially at night when bugs gather around lights—it may be difficult—but it would have been nice to have insect repellent or tools to help keep them away. It’s an Accommodation we’d love to use again; even small improvements would make it even better. Overall, we were very satisfied and would definitely recommend this Accommodation.

    This is my favorite ...

    This is my favorite Accommodation: the well-maintained interior always helps me feel refreshed both body and mind in the Room’s open-air bath, and I can enjoy a French course dinner in casual attire. I will definitely stay again.

    Very satisfied

    The meals were truly delicious and beautifully presented, and the wine pairing was outstanding. The Room and the open-air bath were also clean, stylish, and very satisfying. However, there was one issue: the first impression at arrival was poor, and it left me feeling unsettled for a while. I arrived a little early, just after 2:00 p.m. before check-in time, so I left my suitcase outside the entrance and spent some time looking at the garden. An older woman came from somewhere and was about to go inside through the entrance, so I greeted her, but she simply shut the door behind her without responding. Even though she should have realized I was a guest, when I opened the door she looked me up and down and said in an extremely annoyed tone, “It’s before check-in time.” She remained irritated while I filled out the registration card and throughout her explanations as well, which made me feel very uncomfortable. Right after arriving, I thought I had made a mistake choosing this Hotel! Thankfully all of the other staff were pleasant, but first impressions really matter. Aside from that, my stay was very comfortable overall.

    We had a wonderful stay.

    I stayed for one night on June 15 in the detached twin Room with a private garden. Surrounded by a European-style garden, the fairy-tale-like garden and Room, the chatty woman at the gift shop, and the cheerful, kind staff made for a very satisfying Hotel stay. Dinner featured delicious French cuisine, and breakfast was tasty sandwiches from a picnic basket. However, there are two areas I would like to see improved: 1. The washbasin is too high. For shorter guests, it is difficult to wash your face. A small step stool would be helpful. 2. The stairs can be dangerous if you are not used to them. The chocolate-colored stairs are beautiful, but at night when going to the toilet it is hard to see each step and you may misstep. Adding light-colored anti-slip strips to each step could help prevent potential accidents for elderly guests and pregnant women. Next time, I would like to visit again during rose season.

    Both dinner and breakfast were delicious.

    Dinner started all at once at the restaurant from 6:00 PM, so until then I relaxed in the Onsen in my Room. The Room had both an open-air bath (Onsen) and an indoor bath, and the indoor bath was also a jacuzzi, so I could enjoy a bubble bath as well. Dinner was a full-course meal with both fish and meat. The assorted appetizers were beautifully presented, and everything looked perfect, tasted perfect, and was delicious. Breakfast was delivered to my Room at 8:00 AM in a basket. The soup and coffee were each kept in insulated pots and stayed hot. The salad came in clear jars, looked vibrant, and tasted great. The sandwiches were generous too, so I felt satisfied from the morning. I would definitely like to visit again.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    This was our second stay, and the food was delicious and plentiful. The Room was quiet, and we were able to relax at our leisure in the open-air bath. We hardly encountered other guests except during meals, so there was no stress, and we were able to fully enjoy a wonderful time.

    Moved by a wonderful time and space

    We stayed in a Room with a private garden. Dinner was a French course meal—both the presentation and the flavors were outstanding. The open-air bath in the Room is available 24 hours a day and always at the perfect temperature. The indoor bath also has a TV and jet bath, and the bath salts, shampoo, and other amenities are from Shiseido’s Rose Garden line, so depending on the season you can enjoy not only the roses in the garden but also a soothing rose fragrance throughout. You can also hear Japanese bush warblers singing and may even meet adorable squirrels that visit the private garden. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy tea time in the garden or take the breakfast basket delivered to you outside and have sandwiches and soup. The Room felt spacious because it’s split between a living area on the first floor and a bedroom on the second floor, so we were able to relax comfortably. Unfortunately it rained during our stay this time, but it was still a wonderful experience. We’d love to come again!

    A Wonderful Auberge That Lives Up to the Hype

    This was my first stay here. As rumored, it was a truly wonderful auberge. The dining experience was thoughtfully presented, and I genuinely savored the pleasure of eating. Being able to enjoy the Onsen at any time was another highlight. Above all, the relaxed atmosphere and spacious setting were exceptional. The attention to detail in the furnishings was evident as well, making for a highly satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    I was very satisfied.

    This was our first time staying at an auberge as a couple. The beautifully presented dishes made with fresh ingredients were delicious and paired perfectly with the wine. We would love to return if we have the opportunity.

    There was just one disappointing thing.

    I visited for the first time on a friend’s recommendation. All of the dishes were delicious, and I especially loved the consommé soup. The only disappointment was that the main meat dish was served on a cold plate, and the meat was lukewarm. The meat itself was tasty, so it felt like a missed opportunity.

    First Stay

    The Accommodation has a charming European style, the Room was clean, and the open-air bath temperature was adjusted by the front desk, so we were able to enjoy it at a comfortable temperature. The meals were reasonably tasty, but it was very disappointing that some of the serving staff could not really explain the dishes. Some offered almost no explanation unless we asked, and even when we asked about the side dishes, they would only say “they’re side dishes.” For an Accommodation that presents itself as an auberge, I don’t think I would return.

    Delicious Dining in a Fairy-Tale World

    As soon as we arrived at the Accommodation, we were delighted by the charming building and garden, full of atmosphere that reminded us of the French countryside. The garden was lovely too, with beautiful flowers. Above all, each dish was delicious, and we were amazed by the high quality. The breakfast basket set the next morning was also a treat; since the weather was nice, we enjoyed it at a table in the garden. We even watched a squirrel climbing a tree, which made it even more enjoyable. We were completely satisfied and would love to visit again.

    The hospitality and dinner were excellent.

    The dinners were among the best I’ve had at any Hotel I’ve visited. The hospitality from all the staff was also excellent. However, the stairs and the fairly steep slope from the Charl Main Building to the accommodation wing were a bit tiring.

    A wonderful Hotel with delicious meals.

    ■ Cuisine Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. Breakfast, in particular, was served in the garden, giving a delightful petit picnic vibe! The portion sizes for dinner were quite large. Having stayed at various hotels, I’ve never encountered such generous servings before. I recommend arriving with an empty stomach. Everything was tasty, but the appetizer inspired by Clarisse’s garden and the bread were exceptionally good. The butter sauce was slightly rich, and dishes like foie gras had a heavier taste that seemed to pair wonderfully with wine. Unfortunately, I don’t drink alcohol... but it also went well with non-alcoholic wine! I did feel like I overate a bit; some dishes were too rich for me to finish entirely. However, there was no heaviness or discomfort afterward—something that often happens with greasy food—so this came as a pleasant surprise! If possible, having an option for smaller portions would be greatly appreciated. Every dish was so delicious that leaving any behind felt regretful and made me feel sorry toward both the chef and the ingredients used. ■ Facility While slightly dated in appearance, everything felt very clean! It’s clear that great care is taken during cleaning! The onsen was warm and relaxing! The complimentary aroma oil service was also much appreciated. However, it did feel a bit dry inside; having a humidifier available would be extremely helpful!

    An Accommodation Beyond Expectations

    If described in one word, it would be "an unexpectedly amazing accommodation." When choosing accommodations, I usually prioritize onsen and meals if it's not a hotel. Having stayed at various places before, this was undoubtedly one of the best accommodations I've experienced. (I stay about 30 nights annually, including overseas trips. For budget-friendly stays, I use company facilities; for higher-end stays, my budget is capped at 100,000 yen per night for two people in one room. However, this includes discounted rates through credit card rewards or campaigns like GOTO Travel and even some places exceeding 200,000 yen per night.) With the level of meals and facilities offered here, it wouldn't be surprising if the accommodation cost were nearly double. The building seems to have some age but has been beautifully renovated recently with stunning interiors and exteriors. Decorative rooms often have many nooks and crannies that can make cleaning challenging; however, everything was impeccably clean here for a comfortable stay. Additionally, while the onsen baths are circulated systems rather than natural flow-throughs (kakenagashi), each room has its own open-air onsen bath with a beautifully maintained garden view—making for an enjoyable and relaxing experience. As many others have mentioned in their reviews: above all else—the food is exceptional! I was amazed that such luxurious ingredients (like caviar, foie gras & beef fillet) could be served within this price range—not only visually stunning but genuinely delicious too! Both breakfast & dinner left me completely satisfied every time! The serving staff during meal times were plentiful yet attentive—with warm smiles enhancing our dining experience further—and considering operational costs such as facility maintenance fees alongside ingredient expenses—it feels almost impossible how they manage within these rates! There’s also an adorable shop inside selling charming goods which added extra delight during my visit—and overall everyone working there contributed towards making this place truly special. Upon checking out—I noticed they had won first place among onsen-equipped facilities listed by a certain reservation site back in 2025—which made perfect sense after experiencing everything firsthand! I imagine visiting during rose season would elevate things even more spectacularly so hope to return around then someday soon...(Although last time left me overly full from indulging too much—next round perhaps skipping wine pairings-by-the-glass might help focus better solely enjoying cuisine!) Thank you very much again—it was truly wonderful staying here!

    The French dinner was incredibly delicious. It was so good that I wanted to scoop up every last bit with a spoon. Breakfast is delivered to your room in a basket. With a well-balanced menu, it was delightful to enjoy it while relaxing in the room.

    Thank you so much for the wonderful stay. I had an amazing time. What impressed me the most was the French course dinner. Each dish was like a piece of art, beautifully presented with delicate flavors that truly highlighted the ingredients, leaving me completely satisfied. The breakfast delivered in a basket was also absolutely delicious. The well-maintained garden's beauty took my breath away. Waking up to the sounds of animals in the morning allowed me to forget my daily busyness and fully relax. The Room and bath were impeccably clean and comfortable, making it easy to unwind from travel fatigue in such a pleasant bath. Thanks to this experience, I had the perfect holiday that refreshed both my body and mind.

    An Auberge Where You Can Enjoy Fine Dining

    Accessible by car, though the roads around the area can be confusing. Check-in is done at the restaurant where you receive your key. Stayed in a separate building that felt almost like a private house. The onsen open-air bath is spacious. The French full-course meal was delicious, and having sandwiches for breakfast served in the room was an interesting touch. While this accommodation primarily focuses on enjoying meals, there is also a beautiful garden and a boutique shop on-site, which may appeal to some guests.

    Used for my wife's birthday

    I chose to stay at Clarisse while searching for an accommodation with an onsen open-air bath in the room. Since it was my first time, I opted for a slightly spacious twin room with a private garden (two twin beds). The interior was calm and relaxing, with a stylish garden beyond the onsen open-air bath. Everything was satisfying except that the room lighting was slightly dim. As expected from an auberge, every French dish served was delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast came in a basket filled with sandwiches, soup, yogurt, and more—a generous portion overall. However, since we took a walk along the cherry blossom-lined path from Izukogen Station before breakfast and worked up quite an appetite, we managed to finish it all. Thank you to the chef and staff! My wife mentioned wanting to visit again when the roses bloom (around May according to staff), so we look forward to staying here again in the future!

    Highly Satisfied

    The cuisine is exceptional. A full course meal focused on seafood, including a palate cleanser. While you can choose wine from the list, there’s also a menu offering wines paired perfectly with the dishes, including dessert wine served by the glass—this was excellent as well. The room has great ambiance. It features both a semi-open-air Onsen and a regular bathtub, allowing you to take a dip whenever you like. Breakfast is served in a basket and can be enjoyed in the garden if desired. We imagined something cute but were surprised by an impressively large basket beautifully packed with breakfast items—it exceeded our expectations! Although we usually prefer exploring different places, we found ourselves talking about wanting to stay here again. Everything is thoughtfully designed and beautiful throughout the property—even down to how neatly power cables for appliances in the room are tied up! While it’s lovely, I couldn’t help but wish they were already connected for convenience—just flip the switch and use them right away!

    I met a squirrel!

    Stayed in a petite maison with an open-air bath with my mother. The Room was clean, the food was delicious, and above all, we were moved by the sight of squirrels climbing branches and running along walls while enjoying the relaxing open-air bath. As for requests, it would be nice to have a small chair in front of the mirror for getting ready and perhaps a bit more variety in breakfast sandwiches. Thank you for providing such a quiet and extraordinary experience. I would love to stay again if given the chance.
