I stayed here during my Obon holiday trip.

Reservations through IKYU.com usually go smoothly, but this time was a bit disappointing. Regarding the price: since it was during Obon, I understand it would be higher, but for two adults with one night and two meals included, it didn’t feel worth the cost. At the parking area in front of the entrance, we were asked our name three separate times. It was described as renovated, but the Facility still felt old. The slippers were hard to wear. For a Hotel of this size, the public bath was small and there was no cold plunge bath, which was disappointing—I had been looking forward to the baths. We received vouchers worth JPY 2,400 for two people to use at a nearby festival, but we couldn’t use them due to rain. It would have been nice if they could also be used inside the property. Breakfast was good; dinner was average. That said, all staff members were pleasant. The garden was also beautiful. However, at this price point and with this overall experience, I don’t think we would return.

    The meals were disappointing.

The facilities have been renovated and are very clean, and there were no issues with the baths (indoor and open-air) or the sauna; utilities and taxes are included. Both dinner and breakfast are served in a large banquet hall. Dinner looked nice, but the sashimi was thawed tuna and salmon, and although the beef was described as Japanese Black Wagyu, it was tough and sinewy. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide variety of items—decent overall. It felt like a typical large Ryokan that caters to many group tours. Unfortunately, it didn’t suit our family’s style of travel.

Delicious cuisine and a relaxing Onsen

This is a large Hotel with a strong Showa-era feel, and you can look out over a spacious garden from the entrance. The staff were pleasant, and the bath was relaxing. You take off your shoes before entering the Room, but it has beds. I also liked the firmness of the mattress. The Room was well cleaned and I had a comfortable stay. Breakfast offered both Japanese and Western options, which was great. This isn’t an issue with the Hotel, but there are few taxis around, so without a rental car it’s difficult to get by—something I should have researched better.

The garden, bath, Room, and meals were all excellent!

The beautiful Japanese garden with white sand was wonderful, the bath left my skin silky smooth, and the Room—with tatami mats and a low bed—was incredibly relaxing. The meals were also exquisitely presented, letting the quality ingredients shine through; both the flavors and textures were outstanding!

The breakfast buffet was especially good.

As one of the most established Hotels in Tamatsukuri Onsen, it was sure to be a solid choice, and I was especially pleased with the excellent breakfast buffet. There was a great selection of seafood, and I also enjoyed the shijimi clam miso soup; if you prefer, you can also choose Western-style options, salads, and cornflakes. The view overlooks Lake Shinji, though the bridge structure of the San’in Expressway is hard to ignore.

    It was cold.

I took an evening walk around the Onsen town. It was fun that you lent us geta sandals, but the haori jacket was too thin and I felt cold. I wish you had also provided something warmer to wear on top, such as a tanzen.
