From check-in to check-out, all the staff were consistently kind, and the service was impeccable. The Facility was new and well equipped, making our stay very comfortable. While the location is not particularly convenient for transportation, there is a Shuttle Service to the nearest station, so we did not feel much inconvenience. Overall, it is a wonderful Onsen Ryokan that we would definitely like to visit again.

    It was below expectations.

Despite being an Onsen Ryokan, due to a Facility malfunction the in-room Onsen was barely lukewarm by 4:00 p.m., and after that it was cold water. The staff member who checked the bath at night also had poor language and attitude; we were told it had been restored, but it remained cold water afterward. Even when I mentioned it again before breakfast, I was asked once more if they could check it. I came looking forward to relaxing in the Onsen and enjoying good food, and not being able to use the Onsen is disappointing enough—but having staff enter the Room repeatedly was unbearable. It did not seem fully booked that day, so I wondered why we could not be reassigned to another Room; their inflexible response and unkind remarks felt inconsiderate. Also, by chance I had read Reviews of Oni no Sumu in Shuzenji, and I was surprised at how similar the dinner menu served here—and even the plating—was. The artificial cherry blossoms look cheap up close and made even the food appear that way. Officially you claim that an experienced chef carefully prepares each dish one by one, but I question whether the same head chef goes back and forth between Hakone and Shuzenji, or whether this is simply commercial catering-style food supplied to Ryokan. The main dish also required us to cook it ourselves on a teppan grill. Since other Plans are sukiyaki as well, it felt closer to a large-scale Ryokan experience. In that case, there was no reason for me to choose this Accommodation specifically. Thank you for accommodating my dietary dislikes/allergies. At checkout I was asked to write down my email address on a memo pad, but there has been no follow-up action since then. In any case, when making a Reservation via IKYU your side receives my email address already—and you even contacted me by email before my stay—so why would an additional handwritten note be necessary? Overall, this stay left me exhausted and deeply disappointed. Finally, one foreign male staff member stood out as exceptional—the only person who consistently greeted guests with a smile throughout our stay and provided polite, attentive service of a very high standard. Many Reviews are positive here; however, what truly reveals an Accommodation’s character is how issues are handled when something goes wrong. You should thoroughly review your operations procedures.

    This was my third st...

This was my third stay since December. Compared with the previous auberge, the interior has been completely transformed, an elevator has been added, and Japanese touches can be found throughout. They may also start keeping Nishikigoi carp, and part of the garden is still under construction. Two detached Rooms are scheduled to open in July 2026. The Japanese cuisine was outstanding—an excellent team of true professionals—and for me it deserves five stars. I had a wonderful time chatting at the counter. I’ve heard that more Western inbound guests have been visiting as well, so operations may be settling down soon. Because the in-room Onsen temperature requires delicate control, if it feels too hot or too cold, please call the front desk right away. If possible, I would appreciate being able to stay three people in one Room, and having handrails installed as well. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

It feels like the explanation is insufficient.

As the Accommodation has only recently opened, there were few Reviews, but most were positive, so I booked with high expectations. True to its reputation as a gourmet Accommodation, the meals were beautifully presented and delicious. We dined at the counter, and the friendly head chef and all staff were very pleasant and left a great impression. It was also nice that alcoholic drinks were reasonably priced for this room-rate range. However, the dining area is small. Although the Accommodation has the feel of an upscale hidden retreat, the table seating feels quite open and you can see everything around you, so I felt semi-private seating or partitions would be better. The guest room felt modern, though compared with other Accommodations in the same price range it was a bit small. Perhaps because there isn’t much of a view outside, the window is small and made the room feel closed in; it was also disappointing that the glass was dirty. Also, only bottled soft drinks were provided in the refrigerator. With no lounge offering complimentary drinks including alcohol either, this level of in-room beverages was disappointing. Despite having quality items like an electric kettle and teapot set, there was no Japanese tea leaf provided; and details like offering Twinings tea bags made it feel as though attention hadn’t been carried through to every aspect. The open-air bath in the room didn’t offer any particular view—it simply felt like a bath placed outdoors. When we were shown to our room we were told that because it is natural hot spring water (Onsen) it may be quite hot and we should adjust using a stirring stick or by adding water; however perhaps due to cold weather outside it wasn’t hot at all—rather quite lukewarm—and there was no explanation on how to adjust it in that case. I asked a staff member about this and was told that other guests before me had also complained that their Onsen bath was almost like cold water. When I mentioned at checkout that it had been lukewarm, I was told they could have adjusted it if I had contacted reception, or that opening part of the wooden spout box would allow adjustment of water flow—but I wish this had been explained from the start. Alternatively, I would have liked detailed instructions about in-room amenities provided in booklet form so guests don’t need to contact reception for every little thing. A tablet alone doesn’t provide enough information. These points are based on comparisons with other Accommodations in a similar price range as well as newly opened properties I’ve stayed at before. To be honest, when asked whether my overall satisfaction matched what I paid for—despite many good aspects—I came away feeling somewhat disappointed.

    We had a wonderful time!

This was my first time staying overnight in Hakone! Not only were the Room and interior beautiful, but above all, the staff were incredibly warm and kind—it was truly a soothing, healing stay. From check-in onward everyone was so friendly, and it felt like an Accommodation that naturally makes you think, “I want to come back.” I was especially touched by the staff member who did their best to welcome us in Japanese they weren’t fully confident with—it was so endearing and genuinely heartwarming. Their sincerity really came through and made me feel warm inside too. And the food was amazingly delicious—I was honestly surprised! Each dish was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and truly impressive. Even the desserts showed the pastry chef’s attention to detail, and I enjoyed every moment of the meal from start to finish. Surrounded by nature, it was very quiet, and time seemed to pass more slowly—I could really relax. The bath in the Room also felt wonderful; it was such a luxury that I even went in again in the morning. With the atmosphere of the Room, the cuisine, and the kindness of the staff all together, it was a wonderful Accommodation where you can forget everyday life and unwind at your own pace. I think it’s perfect for a well-deserved treat for yourself. When I come to Hakone again, I definitely want to stay here!

    Thank you very much.

All the staff were very friendly, and we truly appreciated their help. On the day of check-out, it rained for the first time in a while, and they kindly drove us to a covered bus stop, which was a great help. We were also happy with the B.A amenities. Thank you very much.

This Accommodation offers a relaxing stay.

I wanted to soak in an Onsen to recover from everyday fatigue, and since I could make a little time during the holiday, I searched for a nearby Onsen and stayed here for the first time. The deciding factor was that the in-room bath is an Onsen and a square stone bath (the common round ceramic tubs somehow don’t feel as relaxing), but the Accommodation was far better than I expected! The staff’s service and manner were calm and reassuring, so I could stay with peace of mind. The Room is unified in warm wood tones, making it visually relaxing as well, and it’s a very quiet environment (my husband seemed to get a lot done on the work he brought). The amenities were also excellent (I was surprised by the toothbrushes! And the towel material was great.) And the meals were delicate, carefully prepared, and delicious. When I asked in advance about ochazuke being available, I was told “It’s just something simple like a late-night snack,” but not at all—it was an impressive dish, and I was truly moved. Breakfast the next morning also had many items, all of which we enjoyed. Because I have some mild food allergies, we didn’t add dinner; however, through our conversation you kindly accommodated us in various ways for breakfast. My husband later said he wished we had tried dinner as well. If we can find time again, we would definitely like to return. To all the staff members—thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.

    A quiet and beautifu...

A quiet and beautiful accommodation that blends seamlessly with the nature of Hakone. The interior features a modern and high-quality design, offering a calm and comfortable atmosphere. The staff provided exceptionally polite service, maintaining a pleasant distance while attentively caring for guests in a subtle manner, which created a sense of reassurance. Thoughtful attention to detail was evident throughout, making the stay very comfortable. Each guest room includes a semi-open-air bath, allowing you to enjoy the fresh outdoor air in a private setting without worrying about your surroundings. Being able to bathe at your own pace without time constraints is truly luxurious and unique to rooms with private baths. The amenities in the guest rooms are well-equipped, with thoughtful touches that are especially appreciated by women. With all necessary care items provided, you can stay worry-free even if you arrive empty-handed. The meals emphasize seasonal ingredients and are beautifully presented, showcasing meticulous care in every dish served. This accommodation is perfect for rewarding trips for adult women or stays for special occasions such as anniversaries—a place you'll want to visit again someday. Thank you for providing such wonderful moments!

Warm hospitality and delicious meals at a newly opened hidden accommodation!

Stayed for 3 nights and 4 days during the New Year holidays at Hakone Hibari-no, which just opened in October 2025. Upon check-in, we were welcomed with sweets and asked about visiting a shrine on New Year's Day and watching the Hakone Ekiden on the 2nd. Despite our sudden inquiries, the staff, led by the manager, kindly researched everything for us without hesitation. Thanks to their efforts, we successfully visited the shrine and enjoyed cheering live at the mountain stage of Hakone Ekiden—a truly memorable New Year experience. The staff were fresh yet professional, maintaining a perfect balance of attentiveness while earnestly addressing all our requests. We are deeply grateful to everyone, especially the manager. The accommodation truly lives up to its name as a hidden retreat for adults—quiet with a relaxing atmosphere. Blessed with good weather, we enjoyed stunning views from the open-air bath that changed beautifully depending on the time of day. Regarding facilities: since it was during a cold season, adjustments were needed for water temperature in both open-air baths and showers. The bath was initially very hot; finding an ideal balance took until our second night as adding too much cold water made it chilly instead. Shower temperature also required some finesse to adjust properly—this might be challenging for international guests unfamiliar with such systems. As for meals: every dish reflected meticulous craftsmanship by skilled chefs who highlighted each ingredient's natural flavors beautifully while presenting them elegantly. Everything was delicious! The first dashi served at breakfast was exceptional; desserts were delightful too—leaving us fully satisfied. Since this visit featured festive dishes tailored to New Year's celebrations (osechi), we'd love another opportunity someday during another season!

    Onsen and Meals

The best part of staying at Hakone Hibari-no was definitely the Onsen and the meals. First, the Onsen. The private open-air bath in the guest room was incredibly relaxing, surrounded by a tranquil forest setting where you could soak as many times as you wanted without worrying about time. The atmosphere changed between morning and night, making it enjoyable in different ways. Especially soaking in the morning air was exceptional. The water was soft, leaving my body warm for a long time after bathing. The meals exceeded expectations as well. Not only were they visually stunning, but every dish had a carefully crafted taste that made me want to savor each bite slowly. Many dishes reflected seasonal ingredients, giving me a sense of how special it was to visit during this particular time of year. From welcome sweets to dessert after dinner, everything was flawless and left me completely satisfied until the end. This is a luxurious accommodation perfect for adults who want to relax with soothing Onsen baths and delicious meals in a calm environment. Highly recommended for those looking for quiet downtime!

I thought it was one of the top accommodations for dining in Hakone.

A newly opened accommodation in Hakone, I had some concerns, but it turned out to be an excellent choice. Above all, the food was beautifully presented and delicious. I am grateful to have found an accommodation I want to visit again. I will definitely return!
