    As expected from the Imperial Hotel.

    The Facility is excellent, and the location is very convenient in the heart of Gion. The staff are also very attentive. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time during this stay and couldn’t fully enjoy the Imperial Hotel. Next time, I’d like to stay longer and enjoy it more. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Second stay, following last month.

    The well-coordinated, thoughtful, and consistently reliable service was truly impressive. The drinks at the rooftop bar were wonderful, and both the hospitality and the view were a treat. We had dinner at Yasaka, and breakfast in our Room. I was impressed that the Japanese breakfast menu—and even the dishcloth—changed over the course of a month. Once again, thanks to the staff who quietly supported us despite being so busy, we were able to relax at ease. We plan to visit again in autumn. Thank you very much.

    As expected of the Imperial Hotel

    Everything—from the service and Facility to the amenities—was excellent. However, I had a few concerns. I was able to view the Facility information on the TV, and it said that the adjacent art museum could be visited at any time. I assumed admission was free, but it was actually paid. It would have been helpful if the price had been clearly stated in the information. Also, I had the Western-style breakfast, but the bread was served after I finished the main dish. Since I ended up just eating bread at the end, I would have appreciated it being served a bit earlier.

    What I find most app...

    What I find most appealing about staying at the Imperial Hotel is the unhurried, well-resourced service. It feels as though a genuine commitment to meeting guests’ needs is built into the service culture, and there is a reassuring sense that they staff accordingly. Perhaps because of that, although it is an exceptionally high-quality Hotel, it has an atmosphere where guests can relax and be themselves without feeling overly intimidated. I believe this is one of the Imperial Hotel’s greatest strengths. Even though Imperial Hotel Kyoto has only recently opened, I could clearly feel that same sense of ease—truly what you would expect from the Imperial Hotel. In addition, having the staff thoughtfully guide us through the many details and design choices in the building, furnishings, and Room setup made the stay itself feel even more special. From the service to the building, Room, view from the Room, and amenities—everything was extremely satisfying. On the other hand, I did not feel I was able to fully enjoy only one aspect: dining at the all-day dining restaurant. At breakfast I had a Western-style meal while my companion chose Japanese-style; neither left an impression of being far beyond expectations in terms of taste. Also, dishes kept arriving faster than our pace, and plates were cleared quickly after we finished—overall it felt rushed throughout. We also had dinner at the same all-day dining restaurant and assumed it was unavoidable because it was busy then; however, breakfast was relatively calm yet felt much the same way, which was disappointing. That said, overall it was truly a wonderful stay. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    The finest hospitality, woven from Japan’s traditions, pride, and passion.

    I returned with great anticipation, eager to see how the same Kyoto that moved me so deeply during my spring stay at Imperial Hotel Kyoto would reveal itself now, as the season shifts into early summer. This time, I made a Reservation for a Western-style room in the main building. The well-designed bathroom area—accessible both from the bedroom and from the entrance side—was wonderfully practical. I was also delighted to be welcomed again by my favorite Penhaligon’s amenities and a Mikimoto skincare set. Another highlight of the all-inclusive experience is the minibar and snacks, and it is equally appealing that at the lobby lounge you can freely enjoy a wide variety of drinks, sweets, and light meals. I also revisited the spa area that impressed me so much last time, and once again rediscovered just how relaxing it is. For breakfast on both mornings, I chose the Japanese set meal. Not only did you vary the menu each day, but you even prepared different tenugui patterns—such thoughtful attention to detail truly moved me. And of course, every dish exceeded my expectations once again. While your beautifully maintained Facility and refined service are exceptional in every way, what stayed with me most throughout this visit was the genuine hospitality of everyone working there. True emotion cannot be created by luxurious amenities or polished service alone. This stay reminded me anew that what supports each detail is every staff member’s passion and pride—and a deep respect for Kyoto itself. As a fellow Japanese guest, I hope to cherish Kyoto’s traditions, history, and culture while joining Imperial Hotel Kyoto in carrying its enduring appeal into the future. I sincerely look forward to seeing you all again in another season.

    Gion Landmark

    As expected from the long-awaited opening of the Imperial Hotel, the Room featured tatami flooring with a wonderful modern Japanese atmosphere, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The bath had a washing area with a chair—a traditional Imperial Hotel style—and the amenities were excellent. Drinks were inclusive, and I was able to relax with a drink while enjoying views of the machiya townhouses. I was also deeply touched to receive various souvenirs. With only a small number of Rooms, and with both the lobby and lounge available until 22:00 exclusively for guests, I could spend quiet time while looking out at the garden. As is true at any Imperial Hotel, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and I enjoyed many conversations with them. It’s hard to put into words, so I highly recommend staying here at least once.

    A Hotel that makes you want to stay again

    I stayed here because I really wanted to see this place after it reopened following the renovation of an old building. It was far more comfortable than I had expected. I enjoyed a relaxing space that you can’t experience as a day guest. Not only was the original construction impressive, but I also felt that the renovation and extension—architecture and interior finishes alike—reflect the outstanding craftsmanship of many artisans throughout. It’s truly a privilege for ordinary guests to be able to see such top-level architecture and interior finishing. Elite staff from the Imperial Hotel were on hand in many areas, and for someone from the Showa generation, being able to experience true Hotel service made the stay even more enjoyable. The floors accessible only to overnight guests turned what might be considered drawbacks of an older building into a calm, tasteful interior, creating a very comfortable atmosphere. A club lounge is also attached, and it has been finished into an inviting lobby space. The Room was just right in both size and furnishings, with all necessary amenities provided—and everything in the refrigerator was complimentary. In the evening I dined at Oldie Dining with a friend who lives in Kyoto, and in the morning I had Japanese breakfast via room service. I didn’t use the pool this time, so I’d like to next time.

    Serenity

    I have countless memories of the Imperial Hotel from my younger days, so when I heard it was opening in Kyoto, I made a Reservation right away. It was my husband’s birthday, and the staff shared the information among themselves and welcomed us warmly. From the valet service to a gift personally written by the general manager, we fully enjoyed the hospitality of a truly first-class Hotel. In our Room, I asked for bandages because my shoes had rubbed my feet sore, and they even brought disinfectant as well—it was a real help. Thank you very much. What impressed me most in the Room was how wonderfully fluffy the towels were; they felt amazing. The only reason I didn’t give full marks for the guest room is this: there were one or two small bits of debris on the floor. I also noticed a little wear in the carpet pile. One more disappointment: while we were waiting to check in and enjoying tea in the lobby—excited for our stay—there was a couple next to us loudly complaining to several staff members. In an otherwise quiet lobby, their voices stood out so much that it honestly dampened our mood. Guests should be mindful of others and refrain from such behavior in quiet public spaces, but I also wondered if there might have been another way for the Hotel to handle it. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay overall. The Japanese breakfast deserves special mention—it was truly delicious. We weren’t able to visit the bar this time, but we’ll save that for next time. I love how lively—in a good way—the Imperial Hotel can be amid Hibiya’s bustle, where people meet up and dine and enjoy it in their own ways. Looking forward to experiencing that same lineage here at Kyoto Imperial Hotel in its serene atmosphere, I hope to return on my own birthday next time. I look forward to visiting again then.

    I was reminded of the wonderful hospitality in Japan.

    I was truly looking forward to staying here on this trip to Kyoto, and it turned out to be an exceptional stay that far exceeded my expectations. I have stayed at many Hotels and Ryokans both in Japan and abroad, but this is a Hotel that genuinely moved me. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warm and refined hospitality from the staff, and the guidance to my Room was very smooth. Every staff member had a natural smile and thoughtful attention to detail, and I felt an outstanding level of hospitality that belied how newly opened the Hotel is. The Room was comfortable with well-appointed amenities, allowing me to spend my stay without any inconvenience. While the location is convenient, the inside of the Hotel was surprisingly quiet and calm, and I was able to enjoy a relaxing time. In recent years I have often stayed at international chain Hotels, but here I could feel Japan’s uniquely delicate hospitality and sense of aesthetics throughout. I would definitely like to return when I visit Kyoto again. Thank you very much to all the staff for such a wonderful stay.

    I visit Kyoto often,...

    I visit Kyoto often, but recently I have been making day trips—enjoying lunch at my favorite traditional restaurant and then heading straight home. This time, since the Imperial Hotel has opened, I decided to stay overnight. As for the Room, including the limited space around the bathroom area, I didn’t have particularly high expectations due to the constraints of the original building—and it was about as I expected. However, after reading the booklet in the Room and learning about what it took to open this Hotel and all the effort involved, I was able to reflect on that journey and felt once again that it is a truly wonderful Hotel. From the General Manager onward, every member of the service staff moved and showed consideration in a way that reminded me what first-class hospitality should be. I believe this is an outstanding Hotel worthy of representing Japan. One point only: I feel the bathtub in the bathroom is very slippery and quite dangerous. I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider providing an anti-slip mat or similar measures. I look forward to visiting again.

    We had a comfortable stay.

    Right after arriving, I enjoyed a refreshing swim in the brand-new pool. I used “Yasaka” to meet up with friends, and then headed out comfortably to a restaurant in Gion. After returning to the Hotel, I visited the rooftop bar. Even without a Reservation, they found us a seat. Soon after, a better seat with a great view opened up, and they kindly moved us so we could fully enjoy the outdoor bar. Even at closing time, they guided us to the bar one floor below. The sommelier explained Calvados—my first time trying it—and I enjoyed it very much. Wherever I was in the Hotel, I felt their pleasant service—attentive without being intrusive. Thank you very much.

    A Hotel that carries...

    A Hotel that carries on the legacy of Gion’s Yasaka Kaikan. It was a wonderful building, with old tiles and roof tiles preserved within the new design, and Tokoname-yaki terracotta left intact on the exterior walls. Thanks to the staff kindly answering my amateur questions, I was able to observe everything with great interest. The view from the rooftop bar was also excellent. Both dinner and breakfast were served in-room. The quality was high and everything was delicious. The minibar was well stocked, and the glassware selection was impeccable—truly impressive. On the staff’s recommendation, I visited Kennin-ji early in the morning and enjoyed a quiet atmosphere completely different from Gion’s daytime bustle. The service was first-class and very comfortable, and I immediately wanted to return—so I made a Reservation for next month as well. It was a wonderful Hotel. Thank you very much.

    This is a top-tier Hotel.

    This Hotel preserves the charm of a historic building while offering the latest Facility features for an exceptionally comfortable stay, and its location is excellent—convenient for getting anywhere. Everything was high quality, from the furnishings to the amenities. I initially thought it might be a renovation of an old building, but it was completely different. I also looked into the construction approach, and it made perfect sense. Breakfast was among the very best Japanese breakfasts I’ve ever had. It’s great to have a Japanese-affiliated Hotel like this. I’d love to stay again.

    The hospitality at the Imperial Hotel was truly exceptional.

    In April, I stayed at Park Hyatt Istanbul for a Multiple Night Stay of five nights and felt the hospitality of the Imperial Hotel, but the real thing was on another level. The rate was not cheap, but it was a stay that felt truly worth it.

    For lovers of small luxury

    It seems that the only company to propose a Plan to build a Hotel while preserving the Yasaka Kaikan building was the Imperial Hotel. By meeting the height restrictions, this beautiful building with wonderful views has been brought back to life. Apparently, Obayashi Corporation still had the original blueprints from when it was first built, and the demolition, renovation, and extension were carried out superbly—surely drawing attention from architecture enthusiasts as well as fans of Important Cultural Properties. My spouse and I have previously stayed in Kyoto at Tawaraya Ryokan, The Westin Miyako Kyoto (Kasuien / Twin), The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike, Marufukuro, L’Hotel de Hiei, and Hoshinoya Kyoto. In most cases, our main purpose was staying at the Accommodation rather than sightseeing. This time, we learned that the interior design of the newly opened Imperial Hotel in Kyoto was handled by Mr. Tomoyuki Sakakida of Shinsozai Kenkyujo (New Material Research Laboratory), which immediately sparked our interest. Once inside, there was no stiffness at all; with generous use of stone and wood throughout, the interiors created a comfortable space that blends naturally with its surroundings. While being shown around by the concierge team, we were captivated by the beauty of the stone used in the pool area. It was my first time ever feeling an impulse to say, “I want to swim in this pool!” even though I’m not a strong swimmer—and in fact we ended up enjoying it almost as if we had it all to ourselves. We could truly feel how much everyone wanted to be helpful and make guests happy; not once did we feel uncomfortable. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality. On our way out we took a taxi and recorded a video for our own memories; watching it later, we saw everyone waving in their own way and sending us off with wonderful smiles. Seeing this made us imagine that relationships and teamwork among staff must be working very well. Apologies if this sounds presumptuous—we look forward to seeing you again someday. The interiors are not flashy; rather than immediate visual impact at first glance, this Accommodation is recommended for those who appreciate refined quality pieces and contemporary art.

    The staff member in ...

    The staff member in charge of check-in explained the building very clearly and politely, which was great. Breakfast was excellent—so good that I would like to come back just for it. Unfortunately, at check-out, the staff member by the elevator told me to leave my key and wait seated, but no one came even after I waited for a long time. When I asked the person I had handed the key to, they asked me back, “Did you hand over the key?” Even though they had received it, there was no apology—it seemed they had forgotten. The lobby was not crowded. It was disappointing at the end. In the morning, we were told there would be fruit in the lounge, but there wasn’t any. Another guest said it seemed there wouldn’t be any today, so I understood—but if there isn’t any available, I felt a notice explaining that would be necessary.

    Small Luxury Hotel

    May 3: Stayed as a couple (2 guests) Right in the heart of Gion Blending into the neighborhood, yet a Hotel with a truly special presence. We checked in around 7:00 PM, and regretted not arriving earlier. It was a beautiful, deeply relaxing space. The staff were polite and kind. Being able to talk with them became our best memory of the stay. We reserved the Japanese breakfast, and it was unlike anything we’ve had before—truly delicious. The rice was especially outstanding. We look forward to staying again this autumn.

    A Celebration of Room Styling

    I decided to stay here after being drawn in by an article saying that “staying in a historic building is a worthwhile experience.” However, the Room I stayed in was in the newer North Wing extension, not the “historic” part. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the beauty of the interior. The memory of this Room will stay with me for a long time, down to every last detail. I have the utmost respect for whoever designed it. One more thing I loved was the quiet throughout the Hotel. There is no background music anywhere. Even the underground pool sits in dim silence, making you feel as if you’re truly inside a cave. It might even be worth going to Kyoto just to stay at this Hotel—though it is quite expensive...

    It was an outstanding stay that exceeded our expectations.

    I checked in with very high expectations, and the hospitality and Facility exceeded them even further. Not only was the Room quiet and perfectly equipped, but the Japanese breakfast was delicious, and the rooftop bar (it started to get a bit chilly so I left early, but the view was so wonderful I would have loved to stay longer), lounge, and pool were all fantastic—I truly enjoyed my stay. Thank you to all the staff!

    After the Miyako Odori performance ends

    On the day before our stay, it happened to be the final day of the Miyako Odori, and although many related guests were there, we were able to enjoy the performance at a relaxed pace. On the day of our stay, it was already May and Gion felt quiet. Entering the guest-only lobby, we saw Ms. Masume’s tiled roof through the lobby window. The fresh green maple leaves swayed in the breeze. In this unhurried atmosphere, we enjoyed beer and champagne. Like Kyoto State Guest House, the ceiling by the windows extends from inside to beneath the eaves outside, creating a space where you can feel the outdoor air while still indoors—and we were able to relax there at length. We stayed to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It became a wonderful memory. We will visit again. Thank you very much.

    We had a very satisfying stay!

    I checked in without knowing what I was looking for from this Hotel. However, the concierge offered suggestions in advance, and that became the starting point for an unbelievably wonderful time.     Excellent hospitality.

    I previously stayed at the Imperial Hotel (Imperial Hotel Osaka for our wedding and Imperial Hotel Tokyo for Accommodation), and the service in Kyoto was, as expected of the Imperial Hotel, outstanding. The staff were kind and attentive, full of hospitality, and I feel their service is the best of any Hotel. The welcome felt like a Japanese Ryokan: in the lobby we were treated to Kagizen’s fresh sweets and tea. It was a very homey Hotel, with an atmosphere completely different from Imperial Hotel Osaka or Tokyo with their large lobbies. Since it uses the former Yasaka Kaikan building, the corridors are divided into smaller sections like a maze; to move around on the guest floors you need to tap your Room key, and even the elevator won’t stop unless you tap your Room key. I felt security was very robust. When staying in Tokyo I ordered a Western-style pancake breakfast, but this time I chose Japanese breakfast. I was surprised by how many items there were—it was truly luxurious. It was served in an elegant two-tier box produced by Gion Kawakami, and included rolled omelet and shijimi clam miso soup. As it was May, an origami samurai helmet and iris leaves were added to create a seasonal touch, showing a delicate Kyoto sensibility. There was also soy milk soup and freshly grated carrot juice—healthy, delicious, and perfect for mornings. They also kindly accommodated in-Room dining. I prefer a relaxed breakfast in my Room, which made it taste even better. The in-Room drinks selection was extensive as well—grapefruit juice, orange juice, beer, cola, diet cola, red wine, white wine; plus a coffee machine along with black tea roasted green tea (hojicha), and green tea. Snacks included butter cookies potato chips nuts snacks; amenities towels gowns etc were all plentiful so we could relax without any inconvenience. That said compared with Tokyo I felt the souvenir corner had slightly fewer options—I’d love to see more added. When I stayed at Imperial Hotel Tokyo it was very convenient to buy souvenirs inside the Hotel and have them shipped home so I would be happy if there were more Kyoto-style souvenirs unique to Imperial Hotel Kyoto. Since it’s located in a teahouse district we went out for dinner at restaurants in Gion The Accommodation has French restaurant but if there were also Japanese restaurant inside then next time I'd like dine within hotel too

    Kyoto’s Best Hotel

    I stayed here after the Imperial Hotel Kamikochi. Since only guests can enter the lobby, it was quiet and relaxing. The service lived up to Imperial Hotel standards, so I felt comfortable and at ease throughout my stay. The counter-style French dinner at Ren and the Japanese breakfast at Kawakami were both delicious. I’ve also stayed at hotels in Kyoto and some of the city’s top Ryokan, but this was the most satisfying experience. I made a Reservation because rates don’t surge during the autumn foliage season.

    A New Base in Kyoto

    I had been looking forward to this place even before it opened. It happened to be during the Miyako Odori season, and the Kaburenjo Theater is right across the street, so I headed out at a relaxed pace. After the performance, I enjoyed dinner at a nearby kappo restaurant, then visited both the rooftop bar and the indoor bar. The next morning, I recharged with breakfast at Gion Kawakami before spending the morning exploring nearby Kennin-ji Temple at leisure. The peonies were in full bloom in a beautiful array of colors—an absolute delight. Back at the Hotel, I took a break in the lobby. Exploring and enjoying everything about the Hotel itself—from its design to its art—also made for a wonderful journey of discovery.

    Luxury in the Heart of Gion

    A wonderful Hotel. The Room was great, and we visited the French restaurant in the evening—it was absolutely delicious. Breakfast was also excellent, and the hospitality of all the staff was outstanding. I have stayed at several luxury Hotels in Kyoto before, and I highly recommend Imperial Hotel Kyoto!

    A space where you can fully immerse yourself in an extraordinary getaway without leaving Japan.

    The concierge’s insightful explanations about art made my connection with the culture truly enjoyable, and my trip got off to a wonderful start. At the bar, the friendly staff managed the rooftop smoothly with minimal Facility, and it was very comfortable. Also, the receptionist kindly saw me off at my own pace; from the Hotel’s Fujin and Raijin to everything else, all staff showed outstanding knowledge and hospitality, making it an exceptional stay where I could enjoy the great Facility even more. At the restaurant as well, they accommodated appropriate changes based on my condition, and I was able to enjoy myself for the first time in a while. I was so happy that I will definitely come again. It goes far beyond an ordinary Kyoto trip.

    A Hotel to visit during life’s happiest moments.

    Leaving the bustle of Miyako Odori behind, the doors of the former Yasaka Kaikan—now Hotel Imperial Kyoto—open to a hush that feels cut off from the outside world. It is admirable how this historic Yasaka Kaikan has been preserved as much as possible with unwavering passion, then thoughtfully renewed into a modern Hotel. Hospitality made possible only by a small luxury Hotel. You can feel how genuinely happy the staff are to be working with this new Hotel—and that joy reaches every guest. This is Imperial Hotel hospitality unlike anything in Tokyo or Kamikochi. On the rooftop bar, I enjoyed a recommended cocktail while feeling the still-chilly spring night breeze. A Hotel where quiet, unhurried time—with nothing in particular—reminds you what happiness in life feels like.

    Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always stay here.

    I was satisfied with everything—the location, the staff’s hospitality, the service, the interior design, the furnishings, the atmosphere, of course the Room, and the amenities. As expected of the Imperial Hotel, it exceeded even the standards of international hotels. If I visit Kyoto again, I will definitely stay here again.

    The location is exce...

    The location is excellent. We stayed in a heritage Room where you can feel the history of the Yasaka Kaikan, a designated cultural property, and from the balcony we had a wonderful view overlooking the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Theater. The service was attentive throughout, and the bathroom was more user-friendly than those at many international Hotel chains.
