    Enjoy the finest hospitality

    This was my first stay at this Hotel. I arrived in the intense heat in late August. Even though it was well before check-in time, a staff member welcomed me at the entrance and kindly checked the status of my Room. As a result, I was able to check in and rest in my Room. I was truly grateful, especially as I was exhausted from the heat. The Room had a calm atmosphere, and since it is a new Hotel everything felt fresh and clean, making for a very comfortable stay. What impressed me most about this Hotel was the staff’s courteous and attentive service. In every setting—the lobby, hallways, spa—everyone greeted me with a smile and responded thoughtfully. It reminded me how important it is for guests to feel safe and relaxed above all else. Thank you very much for such a wonderful stay. This is a Hotel I would love to return to again.

    I had a very satisfy...

    I had a very satisfying stay. It was my first time staying here, and the staff provided service on par with the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, which I truly appreciated. The Facility also had a calm atmosphere, allowing me to spend a quiet and relaxing time. Breakfast at Gion Kawakami was excellent as well. If I have the opportunity, I would love to stay again.     Simply the best.

    It was so wonderful that although I planned to stay for one night, I ended up staying three. I’ve stayed at many luxury Hotels, and this was the best by far. As others have written, the service is outstanding—I truly felt this is what genuine hospitality means. Even when I was just about to step out, they kindly said, “Please take some water with you,” and I was impressed by how attentive they were to every detail. I also visited the bar; the bartender had extensive knowledge of spirits and shared many interesting stories, which made it a great experience. The room service was exceptional too—so delicious that I couldn’t believe it. I will definitely come back.

    I have stayed at man...

    I have stayed at many hotels considered top-class, but this was the best experience I have ever had. As others have said, the hospitality was truly exceptional—beyond what I could have expected. Breakfast from Gion Kawakami was also an outstanding experience. I would love to visit again in a different season.

    A Holiday in Kyoto

    Thank you very much for your hospitality the other day. The location, the staff’s service, the Room, and the overall hospitality were all first-class. Please be sure to visit the top lounge on the highest floor—the night view is wonderful. When visiting Kyoto, it has to be the Imperial Hotel. Thank you very much.

    We had a great time.

    When I requested a Hotel tour in advance, they kindly guided me on an in-house tour. The careful explanations, including the history from the Yasaka Hall era, were fascinating and made it an enjoyable time. I was also able to relax and enjoy my meal at French Restaurant Ren.

    I stayed here with high expectations because the Reviews were so good, and it ended up being even more satisfying than I had hoped. You can feel the attention to detail in every item provided, creating an elegant and refined space. The lounge selection isn’t extensive, but everything was delicious and I found myself going back again and again. I visited on an extremely hot day close to 40°C and wasn’t sure whether to go to the rooftop bar at night, but even outdoors there was air conditioning, so it was relatively comfortable. The view is also wonderful. Breakfast was delicious as well, and I enjoyed taking my time with each dish. Next time, I’d like to try the Hotel restaurant and order room service for dinner too. I will definitely be back. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for your assistance. On the day of our stay, even though several groups of guests were waiting in the lobby, we were ignored while multiple men and women who appeared to be senior staff of the Imperial Hotel passed in front of us. They handed business cards to a parent and child who seemed to be VIP guests (I do not know whether they were involved in the building renovation or were VIPs) and greeted them very politely. If they are such important VIPs, wouldn’t it be better to escort them to a separate room? Being given such special treatment right in front of other guests made us feel singled out, which was unpleasant. Also, at checkout we asked you to arrange a taxi. The taxi arrived early, and even though it was waiting for us, payment took a long time (at that time as well, the same parent and child who seemed like VIPs were there, and several staff members were attending to them as politely as the day before—perhaps that is why there were not enough staff at the front desk). We waited about 30 minutes just to settle the bill. On top of that, despite our waiting for payment, we were told something off the mark: “Your taxi has arrived; would you like to take your time a little longer?” When we explained that we were waiting to pay, we received an apology (“We are very sorry”), they went back to the front desk, and payment was completed immediately. We also wanted to start our journey home as soon as possible. Because the doormen and restaurant staff provided excellent service, this was all the more disappointing. We will be staying again in October, so please ensure better coordination at the front desk and a smooth checkout process.

    A Memorable Birthday Trip

    Amid the refined Kyoto atmosphere, this nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property—its exterior walls, terracotta tiles, in-house art, and bronze mineral decorative reliefs—blended quietly into the charm of the historic building. I truly enjoyed my stay and felt deeply refreshed. Although there was a small incident, your swift response and thoughtful care—from that difficult moment through to a luxurious one—were outstanding. I was moved by your honest, earnest, and sincere attitude. To the manager and everyone at the Hotel, thank you very much for all your help. I look forward to seeing you again. It was a 1-night, 2-day trip, yet it felt as fulfilling as 3 nights and 4 days—a wonderful journey with lasting memories. Thank you very much.

    Exceptional hospitality

    When I ran into an issue where a package I had shipped still hadn’t arrived even after check-in, the Hotel staff handled it with great sincerity. In the end, they even went out of their way to pick it up from the delivery company’s depot, and I was able to receive it safely. During my stay, I had several requests—such as arranging a taxi and storing my luggage—and every staff member responded quickly with a smile. I was truly impressed by their outstanding hospitality. This is not a Hotel that emphasizes glamour or flashiness, but in every interaction I felt the attentive, distinctly “Japanese” level of service—reminding me once again why it deserves the Imperial Hotel name. Thanks to you, I had a very comfortable and reassuring stay. Thank you very much.

    A Wonderful Hotel That Symbolizes Japan

    When I was unsure which Hotel to choose for a birthday stay, the staff kindly consulted with me even before I made a Reservation. We exchanged messages many times up until check-in, and every time the phone and email support was truly courteous. On arrival, everything was handled smoothly, and I experienced the very essence of ultimate small luxury. A level of attentive hospitality you simply can’t find in Tokyo. At all times, they acted with the guest in mind. Every hotelier I met was wonderful. The bell team, concierge team, reception team, housekeeping team, and food & beverage team. All departments worked seamlessly together with strong communication, so my stay was completely stress-free. The guest lounge is exclusively for guests staying at the Accommodation, so even on a weekend stay it feels calm and unhurried. Breakfast is—personally—the best in Japan! I tried both the Japanese set meal and the Western breakfast, and it’s impossible to choose between them. For Multiple Night Stay guests, they change the Japanese set menu daily to keep it interesting—and every dish is outstanding. I enjoyed both dining at the restaurant and in-room dining. Both are highly recommended. I feel lucky to have found a Hotel that made me not want to check out this much. I’m truly happy to have another favorite Hotel. Thank you very much for taking such great care of me.

    The Elegance of Gion, with a Spirit of Hospitality

    I stayed here for the first time on August 1, Hassaku Day. After watching maiko and geiko making their greetings to teahouses along Hanamikoji in the sweltering heat filled with the chorus of cicadas, I stepped into the building—its exterior like a dragon palace—and was instantly welcomed by a refreshing, luxurious space where Japanese and Western styles blend beautifully. From the terrace of our elegant room, we could see the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo up close. For both dinner and breakfast, we dined at All-Day Dining Yasaka with its colonial ambiance; at dinner we enjoyed Imperial Hotel’s traditional roast beef, and for breakfast we loved the pancakes and avocado toast. The hospitality and service from both the front desk and restaurant staff truly reflected Imperial Hotel’s long-standing tradition. During our roughly 24 hours from check-in to check-out, my son and I enjoyed a dreamlike stay. Thank you very much to all the staff.

    Impressive!

    I often stay at international Hotels these days and usually come home impressed wherever I go, but this place was in a class of its own. Since the Hotel has only recently opened, it’s natural that the Facilities are spotless, but the hospitality was truly outstanding—really! My friend and I even promised we would definitely come back. Breakfast at Gion Kawakami and the rooftop bar were both excellent as well. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    The very definition of “small luxury.”

    Although it is located in Gion, it was a very quiet and relaxing space, and I was able to spend a peaceful, unhurried time there. Breakfast offered a choice of Japanese or Western; I chose the Japanese set, and both the flavors and presentation were delicate and beautiful—truly a Kyoto experience. The room was clean and comfortably appointed in a modern Japanese style, and from the rooftop bar I enjoyed Kyoto’s night breeze and city views. Above all, every staff member was genuinely kind and welcoming throughout my stay—exactly what you would expect from a Japanese Hotel, or rather, truly impressive service worthy of the Imperial Hotel. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    After staying at many international Hotel brands, I realized this is the true “Imperial Hotel spirit.”

    I’ve stayed at many luxury international Hotels (THE MITSUI KYOTO, ROKU KYOTO, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto, etc.), but this stay at Imperial Hotel Kyoto was truly exceptional—I experienced the essence of “so natural it feels effortless, yet genuinely outstanding” service that is unique to a Japanese domestic Hotel. I was deeply moved by the flawless hospitality worthy of the Imperial Hotel name, with not a single inconvenience throughout our stay. ■ Flexible and warm hospitality When we arrived a little after 11:00, it was still before check-in time, but we were kindly shown to our Room as it was already ready. In fact, my wife wasn’t feeling her best, and walking around in Kyoto’s extreme heat would have been difficult for her. Being able to rest calmly in a cool Room until evening helped us tremendously. For lunch we used in-room dining: they prepared gentle ochazuke for my wife and omurice for our children, which helped all of us settle both physically and mentally. ■ A soothing time at “Yasaka Dining” Although we went out briefly in the evening, considering our energy levels we decided to have dinner at the on-site “Yasaka Dining.” During the meal, the sommelier let us know that “you can see the yamahoko floats right now,” and they also engaged warmly with our children—allowing our whole family to enjoy a truly relaxing time. We were also grateful not to have to search for restaurants in the intense heat. We were extremely satisfied that we could spend such a fulfilling and warm evening within the Hotel. ■ A special Gion-style breakfast Breakfast was another wonderful experience. When you think of Imperial Hotel you may picture classic Western cuisine, but being able to enjoy an excellent Japanese breakfast here in Gion felt uniquely special. ■ Feeling proud “Imperial Hotel spirit” During our stay I had an opportunity to speak with the Accommodation manager. I heard fascinating stories about why Imperial Hotel chose Kyoto/Gion—its background and aims—as well as their approach toward guests. I could truly sense the staff’s motivation and pride, along with their unwavering “Imperial Hotel spirit,” which left a strong impression on me. My experiences at international Hotels have been excellent as well, but this stay reminded me once again how wonderful Japanese Hotels can be. We were completely satisfied with every aspect—hospitality, dining, and atmosphere—and we would love to return as a family without fail.

    Preserving Tradition and Delivering the Finest Hospitality

    As a landmark in Gion, where history and culture remain deeply rooted, this place carries the historical value and memories of the former Yasaka Kaikan from the early Showa era into the future while breathing new life into it as a top-tier luxury Hotel. What does “inheritance and renewal” truly look like? I stayed here in late April, shortly after opening, alongside a Kyoto trip in fresh greenery. At that time, it seemed the Kyoto carry service had not yet been set up, so there was a bit of confusion moving my suitcase. However, thanks to the staff’s support, everything was handled smoothly and I was able to enjoy sightseeing in Kyoto as planned. This stay also celebrated my wife’s birthday, so I requested a small surprise in advance. After finishing dinner at the all-day dining restaurant and having drinks at the rooftop bar, we returned to our Room to find adorable towel art on the bed. My wife was truly delighted. Thank you very much to Concierge U. The upgraded Room was wonderful—especially the balcony. From there we could see Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu, and below us even the roof of the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Theater. In such a special setting, we enjoyed a delicious Japanese breakfast on the balcony—an outstanding experience. They also arranged tickets for Miyako Odori for us, which became a memorable highlight of our Kyoto trip. Thank you to Accommodation Manager N. I was deeply impressed by the exceptional hospitality of all Imperial Hotel staff members; their attentiveness extended throughout every aspect of our stay. We will return again in autumn. Regarding the building itself, I could clearly feel the following design concepts: 〇 Harmony with—and contrast against—the streetscape The exterior wall facing Hanamikoji Street (a Registered Tangible Cultural Property) has been preserved and restored. While retaining its original height and presence, the newly added north wing is kept under 12 meters high to match Gion’s machiya scale, allowing it to blend naturally into its surroundings. 〇 Fusion of Japanese design elements with scratch tiles The details of former Yasaka Kaikan (completed in 1936), known for its modern Japanese-style architecture (a Japanese-Western eclectic design akin to Imperial Crown Style), were thoroughly researched and restored. Traditional techniques were carried on by recreating missing terracotta elements and scratch tiles. 〇 A sense of gravitas and refinement as a classic Hotel Over 130 years of Imperial Hotel tradition—symbolized by geometric decorative beauty and material richness seen in designs such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s former main building—blends seamlessly with former Yasaka Kaikan’s Showa-retro atmosphere without any sense of mismatch.

    As expected of the Imperial Hotel Kyoto!

    Throughout my stay, I experienced refined hospitality that truly lived up to the phrase “everything taken care of.” All of the staff who assisted me were Japanese, and because they understood even subtle nuances, communication was exceptionally smooth. The service struck a fine balance between pleasant attentiveness and genuine peace of mind. Inside the property, all guests were also Japanese, and in the lounge not a single person raised their voice—time passed in serene quiet. There was no flashy bustle; instead, it offered a calm, grown-up stay. The guest rooms were all-inclusive, and even additional orders were complimentary—an unusually relaxing style these days. I hope this approach, which greatly enhances both freedom and satisfaction during a stay, will spread to more Hotels in the future. Overall, the quality of the stay was outstanding, making this Hotel one of my top choices to return to.

    Kyoto Imperial Hotel — unbeatable location!

    The Imperial Hotel in Ginza has always been my go-to, but Kyoto was wonderful as well. The descriptions of the other rooms were perfect, and it made me want to stay again. However, the North Wing where I stayed is an extension and only goes up to the second floor, so if you want a view, I think the preserved main building would be better. “Living like in a machiya townhouse” really felt like what you’d expect from a top-class Japanese Hotel.

    It was quiet.

    I spent almost the entire stay inside the Hotel from check-in to check-out, and it was truly quiet. The Room felt thoughtfully prepared, and I was able to relax comfortably. At the rooftop bar I was most looking forward to, I made a Reservation for 6:00 PM, even though it was easy to imagine it would still be hot and humid after the daytime heat. However, thanks to the female staff member who worked so hard to accommodate us, we had a comfortable and very enjoyable time—I was completely satisfied. The changing sky from evening into night was also beautiful. For breakfast, I chose the Japanese set meal; the dishes and lids reflected the season, and everything was delicious.

    The Ultimate Hospitality Experience

    I visited the pastry shop shortly after it opened. I was captivated by the beauty of the Hotel, and ever since then I had hoped that one day I would stay here. This time, that wish came true. I came to see the Gion Festival rituals held at Yasaka Shrine, so my stay was limited to just one night, but it still gave me plenty of time to enjoy being at the Hotel as well—exactly what I had hoped for. I wanted to visit the rooftop, but I returned late and gave up. However, after breakfast the next morning, instead of tea in the lounge, I was kindly escorted to the rooftop and was able to enjoy the morning view. As a guest staying overnight, I felt a strong sense of security from the moment I entered—carefully protected right from the entrance. Although I have stayed at many Hotels, this was a first for me. Beyond the lobby lounge stood Hiroshi Sugimoto’s magnificent seascape—far beyond what “luxurious” can describe—quietly commanding in its presence. After being overwhelmed at first sight, I found myself relaxing into it, as if time gently melted away. The Japanese breakfast from Gion Kawakami-san—which I reserved without hesitation—was truly outstanding, and I happily had seconds of both rice and miso soup. The staff made it easy to ask for refills without any hesitation, sharing small stories along with warm conversation, which meant a lot to me. Everything about breakfast was delicious. To everyone at Imperial Hotel Kyoto who made my stay so comfortable: each person’s thoughtful kindness became my best memory. Now that I am back in everyday life, I feel again that true hospitality is something whose warmth lingers long after you leave. Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much for your kind support during my stay. Experiencing the wonderful hospitality of the Hotel brought back a nostalgic, rich, and heartwarming feeling. My first encounter with the Hotel was in Kamikochi. The reason I have continued to choose it for many years as an indispensable place to stay during my regular visits to Kamikochi is the attentive and warm service I received from the manager at the time and all staff members. I was deeply impressed to feel that this outstanding service and spirit—together with respect for historic architecture—has been faithfully recreated in Kyoto down to the smallest details.     The Facility is excellent, and the location is very convenient in the heart of Gion. The staff are also very attentive.     Second stay, following last month.

    The well-coordinated, thoughtful, and consistently reliable service was truly impressive. The drinks at the rooftop bar were wonderful, and both the hospitality and the view were a treat. We had dinner at Yasaka, and breakfast in our Room. I was impressed that the Japanese breakfast menu—and even the dishcloth—changed over the course of a month. Once again, thanks to the staff who quietly supported us despite being so busy, we were able to relax at ease. We plan to visit again in autumn. Thank you very much.

    As expected of the Imperial Hotel

    Everything—from the service and Facility to the amenities—was excellent. However, I had a few concerns. I was able to view the Facility information on the TV, and it said that the adjacent art museum could be visited at any time. I assumed admission was free, but it was actually paid. It would have been helpful if the price had been clearly stated in the information. Also, I had the Western-style breakfast, but the bread was served after I finished the main dish. Since I ended up just eating bread at the end, I would have appreciated it being served a bit earlier.

    What I find most app...

    What I find most appealing about staying at the Imperial Hotel is the unhurried, well-resourced service. It feels as though a genuine commitment to meeting guests’ needs is built into the service culture, and there is a reassuring sense that they staff accordingly. Perhaps because of that, although it is an exceptionally high-quality Hotel, it has an atmosphere where guests can relax and be themselves without feeling overly intimidated. I believe this is one of the Imperial Hotel’s greatest strengths. Even though Imperial Hotel Kyoto has only recently opened, I could clearly feel that same sense of ease—truly what you would expect from the Imperial Hotel. In addition, having the staff thoughtfully guide us through the many details and design choices in the building, furnishings, and Room setup made the stay itself feel even more special. From the service to the building, Room, view from the Room, and amenities—everything was extremely satisfying. On the other hand, I did not feel I was able to fully enjoy only one aspect: dining at the all-day dining restaurant. At breakfast I had a Western-style meal while my companion chose Japanese-style; neither left an impression of being far beyond expectations in terms of taste. Also, dishes kept arriving faster than our pace, and plates were cleared quickly after we finished—overall it felt rushed throughout. We also had dinner at the same all-day dining restaurant and assumed it was unavoidable because it was busy then; however, breakfast was relatively calm yet felt much the same way, which was disappointing. That said, overall it was truly a wonderful stay. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    I returned with great anticipation, eager to see how the same Kyoto that moved me so deeply during my spring stay at Imperial Hotel Kyoto would reveal itself now, as the season shifts into early summer. This time, I made a Reservation for a Western-style room in the main building. The well-designed bathroom area—accessible both from the bedroom and from the entrance side—was wonderfully practical. I was also delighted to be welcomed again by my favorite Penhaligon’s amenities and a Mikimoto skincare set. Another highlight of the all-inclusive experience is the minibar and snacks, and it is equally appealing that at the lobby lounge you can freely enjoy a wide variety of drinks, sweets, and light meals. I also revisited the spa area that impressed me so much last time, and once again rediscovered just how relaxing it is. For breakfast on both mornings, I chose the Japanese set meal. Not only did you vary the menu each day, but you even prepared different tenugui patterns—such thoughtful attention to detail truly moved me. And of course, every dish exceeded my expectations once again. While your beautifully maintained Facility and refined service are exceptional in every way, what stayed with me most throughout this visit was the genuine hospitality of everyone working there. True emotion cannot be created by luxurious amenities or polished service alone. This stay reminded me anew that what supports each detail is every staff member’s passion and pride—and a deep respect for Kyoto itself. As a fellow Japanese guest, I hope to cherish Kyoto’s traditions, history, and culture while joining Imperial Hotel Kyoto in carrying its enduring appeal into the future. I sincerely look forward to seeing you all again in another season.

    Gion Landmark

    As expected from the long-awaited opening of the Imperial Hotel, the Room featured tatami flooring with a wonderful modern Japanese atmosphere, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The bath had a washing area with a chair—a traditional Imperial Hotel style—and the amenities were excellent. Drinks were inclusive, and I was able to relax with a drink while enjoying views of the machiya townhouses. I was also deeply touched to receive various souvenirs. With only a small number of Rooms, and with both the lobby and lounge available until 22:00 exclusively for guests, I could spend quiet time while looking out at the garden. As is true at any Imperial Hotel, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and I enjoyed many conversations with them. It’s hard to put into words, so I highly recommend staying here at least once.
