    Amazing!!

    We have four dogs, including a Golden Retriever and a Mameshiba, so we always stay in a villa with a private dog run. However, every time we’ve felt that something was always just slightly inconvenient—but RETONA was perfect. Since there’s a splash pond in the dog run, we thought we should bring towels, but there were towels right at the entrance, along with a water tank for dogs and bowls. We also received one complimentary drink per person from the vending machine at the dog-run entrance!! Thanks to that, our dogs were able to run around the spacious dog run to their hearts’ content and slept soundly at night. For dinner, since our dogs are always with us as usual, we assumed the food would end up getting cold—but each dish was served at just the right time: hot items while still hot and cold items while still cold. Everything was delicious—the soup and even the mango vegetable juice—and the appetizers were presented like an afternoon tea set: not only tasty but also beautifully arranged. Whenever we met any staff member, they greeted us with wonderful smiles, and they even helped carry our luggage upon arrival—which was truly helpful for our multi-dog household. The bath in our Room was very spacious as well, everything was spotless throughout, and above all we didn’t feel any drawbacks or inconvenience at all. We travel at least five or six times a year, and during long holidays we often stay about four nights. We would absolutely love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Senior dogs are welcome to stay.

    We stayed as a couple with our 17-year-old senior dog. In a Room with large windows, we were able to relax at our leisure.

    Number of terrifying dead insects on the inside window frame in the bathroom

    I ended up cleaning it myself. That is a legitimate complaint. It was truly awful, and my daughter was so scared that she couldn’t take a bath. I’m very disappointed.

    I was able to relax both physically and mentally.

    With the well-equipped Facility and Hakone’s Onsen, both my dog and I were able to relax in body and mind. The service also struck the right balance—unobtrusive, yet quick to respond when needed. However, it was disappointing that small bits of debris and dust remained on the Room floor and window glass. Also, I wish there had been a lower pillow option.

    The staff are wonderful.

    This was our first visit for a birthday trip for our dog. Since we have multiple large dogs, we emailed several questions before arrival about the check-in process and the Facility, and each time we received prompt and courteous replies, which made us feel at ease. The front desk, Room, dining area, and other spaces throughout the property were thoughtfully designed for guests with dogs, making it very comfortable. The furnishings and every Facility also felt luxurious—truly a property where Odakyu has clearly invested great effort. This time we chose the Premium Suite A-Type with a private dog run. Because there is a door between the bedroom and living room, we were able to sleep soundly without the dogs rushing into the bedroom. Our dogs ran at top speed around the spacious sloped dog run and sniffed everything in sight—they seemed completely satisfied. There was also a pond in the dog run: our short-haired dog (who could have gone in) didn’t, while our long-haired dog (who we didn’t want to) happily splashed around. They then ran all over with wet paws, so when leaving the dog run their feet were covered with mud, dry grass, and small twigs—but it was very helpful to have a paw-washing shower next to the entrance as well as an excellent grooming room inside. Most noteworthy was how attentive the staff were—we felt their care throughout our stay from the moment we arrived. It was as if they offered help before we even had to ask. Thanks to them, we had a very comfortable stay. It might have been even better if both the private and shared dog runs had slightly denser grass coverage? (Sorry that I couldn’t fully clean up all of the mud and dried grass that fell in our Room.)

    The Room and the staff service were excellent!

    We would definitely love to stay again, so I’m sharing a few candid comments as well, with hopes for continued improvement. First, both my husband and I agreed that every staff member who assisted us was wonderfully calm and professional, the Room was modern and beautiful, and the shared dog run—one of the largest in the Kanto area—was fantastic, with a splash pool and gentle slopes that made great use of the natural terrain. We also loved the matching dog jinbei that really got owners excited, along with the adorable welcome board. All necessary amenities for dogs were provided, which kept our luggage to a minimum—it was truly perfect. That’s why we’d love to return. As a small request for improvement: especially in summer, our French Bulldog tends to pant heavily, so ice packs for cooling neck wraps are essential. We wished there had been a freezer in the Room where we could properly freeze ice packs. (The small freezer compartment inside the refrigerator didn’t freeze them solid.) Also, both the Room’s flooring and the indoor dog run floor were a bit slippery, so we stopped letting our dog play in the indoor dog run sooner than expected. Slippery floors can put strain on their legs, so we would really appreciate it if you could consider something like an anti-slip wax in the future. Regarding meals: I personally didn’t mind much, but my husband felt that overall seasoning was slightly strong. However, the breakfast (Western-style) I chose—croissants, beet bread, soup, omelet, etc.—was very delicious. It was honestly the best Western breakfast I’ve had at any Accommodation recently. Our family loves traveling with our dog; last year we stayed 43 nights total and this year we’re at 17 nights so far. We especially love Hoshino Resorts KAI and stay there often. The dinner at KAI Kusatsu last month left a strong impression with regional touches—an appetizer inspired by Kusatsu’s yumomi ritual and even a cocoon-shaped mousse dessert reflecting its proximity to Tomioka Silk Mill. Dinner here was of course beautifully presented and delicious as well; however, there wasn’t one particularly memorable dish that stood out to us. We thought it would have been even better with something more “Hakone-like” or impactful. I’ve written quite a lot, but please understand this is not a complaint—just feedback shared with sincere hopes that your Hotel will continue to grow into an even more wonderful place. Thank you for your understanding.

    Two groups (5 guests total) staying at the Accommodation; one group on a Multiple Night Stay.

    Both the Room floor and the indoor dog run were slippery, and our medium-sized dog kept slipping while walking. We stayed in both a south-facing Room and a north-facing Room. The deck of the south-facing Room was too sunny and hot to use when we arrived, and the deck of the north-facing Room had areas with grass growing, so it felt like an incomplete design because we ended up stepping down onto those spots. Also, we could clearly hear children running around in the upstairs (2nd-floor) Room directly above us. We called the front desk, but I don’t think anything was done. As for the bath, one bath had a large amount of black Onsen sediment floating on top, so we couldn’t use it, which took away from our time to relax. The food didn’t feel particularly special. They seemed confused serving five people, and their explanations of the dishes were vague. At checkout as well, the staff did not appear clean or professional; it felt like inexperienced service. Overall, there was no guest-focused hospitality. It feels like they built an impressive property but did not deliver on what you would expect for the Accommodation fee. I felt this Hotel was not worth the price. We will not return.

    Highly Satisfying Accommodation

    We visited because we thought we’d take a trip to Hakone once the weather got nicer. Since it’s a new Accommodation, everything—from the flooring and layout to the amenities—was thoughtfully designed. It was especially convenient to have a vacuum cleaner on hand, not just lint rollers, for those moments when things felt a bit gritty or pet hair started to bother us. The walking bag with a shoulder strap was also very helpful; we ended up going to the dog run more than usual during our stay, so having it prepared for us made things much easier. We could really tell how carefully everything had been considered. Our dog even had an adorable samue outfit matching ours, and there was also a welcome board. The balance of luxury and friendliness created a real sense of hospitality. What stood out most was the spacious dog run that makes great use of the slope, and the quality of the Onsen—truly Hakone at its best. Unfortunately, our dog MARK barely ate his meal (sorry about that). He’ll eat vegetables if they’re finely chopped, but he really prefers meat—so we’d be happy if you could offer something like meat with just a little vegetable mixed in. The human meals were delicious. We drank too much of the complimentary beer before dinner this time, so next time we’ll pace ourselves better. It’s an Accommodation we definitely want to visit again.

    Not sure it’s worth paying double for the detached annex.

    This was my second stay. Last time I stayed in a Room with a private dog run, and this time I stayed in the detached annex. The Room was certainly spacious and clean, and I appreciated that only this option allows in-room dining. However, to reach the annex’s private dog run you have to step outside from the entrance, and the slope is so steep that I almost fell. There is also a shared dog run next door, but the gate was secured with a padlock, so we had to take a big detour to get there… At the very least, I think guests staying in the annex should be able to access the dog run freely without a padlock as a special privilege. If I’m paying twice as much, the Room with a private dog run where I stayed last time was more than comfortable enough. The meals also don’t seem any different just because it’s an annex… The food was delicious and satisfying. This time, perhaps because it was the annex, I didn’t have many chances to speak with staff, and it felt like the service was better last time… It’s an Accommodation I’d like to visit again, but next time I’ll make a Reservation for a standard Room.

    It was the best dog Hotel.

    It was so wonderful that we stayed for one more night. The Accommodation’s ability to perfectly support a dynamic way of enjoying the stay—changing Rooms each night—is truly first-class and well worth the price. By experiencing authentic design (Louis Poulsen) and traditional beauty (Arita ware featuring Choju-giga), I feel my senses were sharpened even further. There was also a space where our dog could feel safe and sleep peacefully, and moments filled with gratitude for my family… Our Hotel time at Retona, wrapped in such happy feelings, brought a sense of richness to my heart. Thank you very much for everything. Marble was also very happy. The dining dishes and all the staff were wonderful as well. We look forward to visiting again.

    All set.

    This was our second stay since visiting on opening day. The trees have settled in, the dog run lawn is well maintained, and the entire Hotel now has a calm, relaxing atmosphere. As always, the food was delicious, and thanks to the thoughtful staff, we enjoyed a comfortable stay in every way. This is a highly satisfying Hotel where you can spend quality time with your beloved dog.

    Newly Opened

    We made a Reservation because the Reviews were highly rated. However, the phone service and check-in process were stressful. We were tired and became irritated by the way we were treated. The Room was spacious but not very functional. The food was honestly average and not worth the price. Also, during dinner there was a dog barking, and the noise echoed so much that we could not relax and enjoy our meal at all. The staff’s service felt awkward, and their language did not seem appropriate for Hotel staff. We canceled our next Reservation immediately. Of course, some people may find it wonderful, but for us this is not a Hotel we would visit twice. One night was enough for us.

    A place you’ll want to return to again and again.

    This was our second stay, and once again we had a comfortable and satisfying visit. The shop had more items, and we noticed changes throughout the Accommodation that made us want to come back again next time. I just wish the walking bag in the Room were available for purchase in the shop as well. We will visit again once the dog run grass has grown a bit more. We were very satisfied with the Facility, the Onsen, the service, and the meals.

    A truly relaxing and wonderful time.

    We had a wonderful time traveling with our dog. The meals were made with carefully selected ingredients, and everything we tried was delicious. The thoughtfully prepared dishes were truly soothing for both body and mind. One thing we noticed: the seats in the dining area with a great view outside were a bit uncomfortable for eating because the table and chair heights didn’t match—the table felt too high compared to the chairs. Also, the bath was lovely, and it was a luxury to be able to enjoy continuously flowing hot spring water at any time. If you could put in a little more effort cleaning the faucets and fixtures, I think it would feel even more pleasant to use. Limescale can be hard to avoid, but there are cleaners available now that remove it well, so I hope you’ll consider it. The staff’s attentiveness was just right and very comfortable. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation where you can stay with your beloved dog at all times

    We stayed to coincide with peak cherry blossom season because there was a Room with a private dog run. As it’s still a new Accommodation, everything was very clean and beautiful. There were thoughtful touches for dogs everywhere—door operation, the flooring and sofa, dog steps to help them get onto the bed, etc.—and the dog amenities were well prepared. The private dog run was spacious and had real grass rather than artificial turf, so our dog loved it! It’s also great that dogs are welcome in the restaurant. We were happy to have our dog right next to us in a buggy and enjoy our meal at the same table. All of the food was delicious, though I felt desserts could be improved with a bit more creativity. The outdoor dog run is also quite large, and there are many great walking routes nearby. The cherry blossoms were beautiful too. The disappointing points were: There was still dog poop left in the private dog run from the previous day’s guest, and there was Häagen-Dazs ice cream in the refrigerator that seemed to have been left by the previous guest. As you’ve only just opened, it may be unavoidable for now, but since the facilities are excellent overall, I hope to see improvements on the service side going forward. Thank you for taking care of us.

    An Exquisite Space

    The dining, Facility, and service all truly reflected the quality you would expect from an Odakyu group Hotel. In particular, the excellent soundproofing was greatly appreciated for our dog, who is not comfortable around other dogs.

    It was a wonderful 60th birthday celebration.

    I was truly happy to spend my 60th birthday—a major milestone in life—with my beloved dogs at such a wonderful Hotel. Both are rescue dogs: our French Bulldog was adopted from an individual and has a known birthday, while our Toy Poodle is a retired breeding dog, so we celebrate the day we welcomed her into our family. Since all three of us were born in March, we struggle every year to find a pet-friendly Hotel—but RETONA was the best ever. The dog yukata-style loungewear was adorable, too. I hope more Facilities like this will be created. The staff’s hospitality was excellent, the meal portions were just right, and above all everything was delicious both to the eyes and the palate! It was truly comfortable. Thank you very much!

    A memorable, comfortable stay—we’d love to return.

    We stayed here to celebrate Chinese New Year, and I’d like to give a perfect overall score. We stayed for two nights from February 17 with breakfast and dinner included. We also brought two dogs, and arranged breakfast and dinner for them as well. We arrived early, completed check-in quickly, and then went to Hakone Shrine. The staff member from Taiwan was kind and attentive, and even greeted my husband and me with “Happy New Year.” Thank you very much—being greeted in our native language was truly heartwarming. They also gave us dog toys. Dog yukata are available too; our dogs wore the largest size. They were so cute that we took lots of photos. What impressed us most was how dog-friendly everything is. We were given scarves matched to each dog’s personality—since many dogs (and people) are not comfortable around other dogs, this felt like a great idea to help prevent issues with other guests’ dogs. We’ve stayed at many pet-friendly Ryokan and Hotels before, but this was the first time we’d seen a service like this. I really hope other places adopt something similar. This time we chose a Room with a private dog run. It was spacious, and our dogs loved running around. The shared outdoor dog run was also large and great. It’s natural grass, but since it hasn’t fully grown in yet, our dogs’ paws got quite dirty—however, there is a grooming room, so it wasn’t a problem at all. The Room itself was spacious and came with an Onsen bath—such a luxurious space. The quality of the Onsen water was excellent; it left our skin smooth, and we were very satisfied too. The meals were also flawless: a well-prepared Japanese-Western course menu with plenty of food. The appetizers at the first dinner were especially lavish—we got excited and ended up drinking more alcohol than usual. Both the commemorative cake for us and the cake for our dogs looked wonderful as well. They even took photos for us. Our dogs’ meals came in an impressive three-tier box set; over the two days the main meat changed (the rest was mostly the same). Our dogs are medium-sized but finished the L size easily. For breakfast, we ordered Japanese on day one and Western on day two—but Japanese was definitely the right choice; next time we plan to have Japanese both days. Our dogs’ breakfasts were the same on both days: they finished everything on the first morning but didn’t eat it on day two—however, they happily drank plenty of camel milk. On checkout day we played in the dog run again until just before leaving, and our dogs even made friends with other guests’ dogs.

    We stayed here to celebrate our dog’s special anniversary.

    When I entered the Room, I was happy to find a handwritten welcome board. The property was quiet and spacious, and the dog run was new—my dog happily ran around. I had been really looking forward to dinner and enjoyed it, but this month’s menu on the day felt modest in both composition and portion size, which was disappointing. There were no tabi socks prepared in the Room; when I realized it was cold and contacted the front desk at night, it seemed they had forgotten, and they brought them right away. However, until then I had been walking around the property wearing only indoor slippers, which feels embarrassing in hindsight. This time, parts of the Room floor were dirty in places. I also noticed dust on top of the appliances (perhaps more noticeable because everything is coordinated in black). I ran hot water through the coffee machine twice, but the water did not come out clean, so I did not use it.

    Anniversary Trip

    Stayed with our dog to celebrate an anniversary. Lake Hotel is a top-tier resort where you can stay with your dog. Now renewed as Litna Hotel. The Room had a swing, which was very relaxing. The in-room Onsen was excellent. I was surprised that the drink prices at meals were set quite high. A glass of champagne was over 3,000 yen (Dom Pérignon?). It wasn’t specified, so I’m not sure, but I was shocked. The prices are too high, so it’s a shame we can’t visit often. It’s a wonderful Hotel, though. We had an enjoyable stay.

    Both you and your dog will be delighted.

    We stayed to celebrate our dog’s birthday. As the Hotel has only recently opened, the property felt spacious and was very clean throughout. The in-room pet stroller from the brand TAVO was comfortable and easy to use. We were impressed by how thoughtfully the Room was designed with dogs in mind. The dog runs—right outside our Room, indoors, and outdoors—were all wonderful, and we enjoyed them all. It was also very convenient that dog toilets, water, and wet wipes were provided wherever needed. We really appreciated being able to dine with our dog at the restaurant, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Having an Onsen bath in the Room meant we could relax without leaving our dog alone, which was the best part of all. There are also plenty of walking routes around the Hotel, so we would love to visit again if we have the chance.
